McCown Was “Smackin’ Things Around”

Saturday, November 15th, 2014

Josh McCown did more than cry Sunday. Those tears, though, reminded Dashon Goldson of one of his weepy former teammates.

Outside of, you know, a good Buccaneers football game, what could be more fun than an edition of “Hawk Radioafter Josh McCown cried?

You just knew Dashon “Hawk” Goldson would have plenty to say. (more…)

“It’s The Bucs Who Are The Soft Ones”

Saturday, November 15th, 2014

Last month, Gerald McCoy called his defensive mates “soft.” But nobody really toughened up, outside of a more physical showing in Cleveland.

So it’s understandable analysts would call the Bucs soft, too, especially as they relate to the rest of the league. (more…)

Do Your Job

Bucs MLB Mason Foster talks takeaways.

Mason Foster talks takeaways.

Joe remembers how Bucs fans recoiled when former Bucs commander Greg Schiano recoiled when he heard someone mumble the phrase, “Make a play.”

Schiano would explain that often means a player is trying to do too much. In doing so, he strays from his responsibility and often leaves himself and his position vulnerable. (more…)

THE OPTIMIST: Changing The Shape

Saturday, November 15th, 2014

MikeEvansIn these unsettled times of devastating Bucs losses, constant change and growing pains, Joe thought it would be wise to bring back THE OPTIMIST.

THE OPTIMIST is Nick Houllis, a Bucs fan and an accomplished writer whose steadfast allegiance to the Buccaneers goes back to the 1970s. Houllis is the founder, creator and guru of BucStop.com, a place Joe goes to get lost in time via Houllis’ stunning video collection.

THE OPTIMIST will shine that positive light in your eyes. Some will love it. Some won’t. … Of course, THE OPTIMIST’s opinions are his alone and are not influenced by Joe.

“Apathy”

Saturday, November 15th, 2014
????????????????????????

“A giant yawn,” explains The Custodian Of Canton.

Joe has often stated the absolute worst thing for any team, much less an NFL team, much less the Bucs is apathy.

Once apathy sets in among the fanbase, fans have checked out. And if things don’t turnaround quickly, many of those fans may be gone for good. (more…)

Defenders Don’t Fit What Lovie Wants

Friday, November 14th, 2014

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Before the season began, Joe thought the Bucs would be 7-9 largely because Joe was not sold on the offense, particularly the offensive line.

Joe was scolded by many for being so pessimistic about the new, overhauled frontline.

Joe never, ever dreamed the Bucs defense would be so rotten. Not with Lovie Smith as the head coach. (more…)

Jameis Watch: Gettin’ “The Boot” Every Week

Friday, November 14th, 2014

JameisCrab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

Exposing The Offensive Line

Friday, November 14th, 2014

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

You want to know why the Bucs offense has been, as Charles Barkley would say, “turrible” this year? Well, Mark Bullock of the Washington Post sums it up in two factors: inconsistent quarterback play and a struggling offensive line.

Bullock, an X’s and O’s guy who writes for the paper of record in our nation’s capital, goes into great detail (with photos) as to why the Tampa Bay offense is a mess, and why he expects the Redskins to expose the offensive line for what it is: subpar. (more…)

Joe’s got the full injury report

When you’re listed as “probable” on an official NFL Friday injury report, then that means you’re playing Sunday unless you get mixed up with dangerous women or have an accident.

It Starts With Practice

Friday, November 14th, 2014

gmc 1211

In four losses the season, the Bucs held leads in the fourth quarter. Problem was, the defense couldn’t make critical stops hacked up leads.

Few were more gut-wrenching than the losses against the Lambs and Vikings, both at home, when a never-been quarterback who was pulled off the street and a green rookie, respectively, led their teams on last-minute scoring drives. (more…)

Each draft, folks wearing suits in Manhattan try to give each draft class a label of some sort. You know, “Year of the Quarterback” or “Draft Class of Linebackers.”

This past spring could have been the draft of the wide receiver. Many went early, more so than Joe can remember in recent history. Of course, the Bucs joined the fun by selecting Mike Evans. (more…)

Still Trying For Those Takeaways

Friday, November 14th, 2014

lovie 0912

From the time training camp started, if not before, Bucs coach Lovie Smith was like a preacher with a one-track sermon. He preached the word of takeaways.

It’s hard to argue. Teams with the most takeaways often are the better teams. It is simple math. (more…)
