Foreclosure Filing On Josh Freeman’s House

November 3rd, 2014

josh freeman 0926The downward spiral of Josh Freeman’s football career was always linked to alleged off-the-field issues. But there was never proof Freeman had personal troubles.

No pictures. No official accusations. No nothing. Just a talented quarterback out of the NFL following standout seasons in 2010 and 2012, and after the Bucs, Vikings and Giants all gave up on him within a seventh-month period from October 2013 through May 2014.

Now, however, there is hard evidence that Freeman’s world isn’t silky smooth.

On Oct. 22, Bank of America filed a complaint in Hillsborough County circuit court to foreclose on Freeman’s five-bedroom, 5,800 square-foot home on exclusive Bayshore Boulevard in South Tampa.

Freeman purchased the home in January 2010 for $1,008,000, per property records.

The mortgage referenced in the complaint was for $705,600. The complaint claims the loan is “currently due for the March 1, 2014 payment and all subsequent payments thereafter.”

Per the complaint, Bank of America claims they are due, in total, $650,105, including “interest, expenses, costs” and “reasonable attorney’s fees and costs.”

The assessed value of the home is $1.77 million, per the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser. JoeBucsFan.com could not find the home listed for sale and there was no for-sale sign at the property today.

Last year, Freeman completed the final season of his five-year, $36 million, Buccaneers rookie contract signed in 2009. The Vikings also paid him, per NFL Network, about $3 million for three months work with them last year.

Joe is not pleased to break this news. What’s actually going on with Freeman is unknown. Hopefully, it’s not something ugly. Joe sure hopes Freeman stashed away a good chunk of his earnings.

Nothing would surprise Joe here, including Freeman stepping up and paying the nine months of missing mortgage payments on the house and working with the bank to get out of foreclosure.

Good luck, Josh.

What did he do with all that money?

Haha. Lazy lair freeboy sniffed it all up his nose.

  8. Andrew 1 Says:

Hardly see how this is anybodies business. Nobody on this site, or any other site for that matter, would appreciate their dirty laundry being aired out for all the world to see, especially if they are going through a rough patch. He’s out of the game, so there’s really no need to put a microscope on his personal life anymore. Please, please, please Freeman save what you can. Ditch the lavish lifestyle and start putting stock in wholesome things. Just some friendly advise.

  9. Mr. Patrick Says:

With all of the bad QB play throughout the NFL and quality back-ups hard to find, with Josh still being unemployed, the league must know something about him

  10. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Maybe they should ask Boomer Easison. He seemed to be able to figure out Freeman’s problems. Him and 3/4 of south Tampa that would see him partying every night past 3am.

  11. DB55 Says:

Ask Mike Sam he might know. Haha jk.

I don’t feel sorry for this clown and this is setting up to be a 30 for 30 story within itself.

These kids have no clue on the opportunities they have at their feet and they take for granted the glory and glamorous life will last forever. News flash it’s not and you still have to manage your finances just like normal people.

Even wealthy people manage their finances.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There are three logical reasons for the late payments…

    Josh is sleeping…
    Schiano made him do it.
The home was sold oh a hanshake deal with Talib for $1.5 mil & a bottle of adderall.

  15. bucrightoff Says:

Freeman is persona non grata in the NFL. Leaking your own records to try and destroy a franchise will get you blackballed unless you can really play, and we all know Freeman would rather party than play.

  16. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I know some street pharmicist in Tampa that are very upset at this news. And they are changing their payment plan to C.O.D.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

  19. Louis Friend Says:

Some of you commenters are showing yourselves as low lives. I’m not crying for Freeman at all – but show some class people. You’re making yourselves sound like you wish Freeman would die or suffer horribly for how he performed on a football field. Last I checked it was still just a game – and nobody held a gun to the Bucs head making them overlook Freeman’s character flaws until last year.

  20. snook Says:

What an idiot. Fire sell it for $1M and move on.

  21. TAC Says:

Lots of equity for a sale. Wonder if he has a “trusted” agent bilking the mortgage payments.

Joe should initiate a intervention. Have Shiano sitting on the couch when he comes through the door.

  22. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Louis Friend

Exactly man. I dont really feel all that sorry for Freeman either. BUT that doesn’t mean I take pleasure in seeing bad things come his way, nor do I wish to see bad things come his way.

Someone said he had so many chances, and that may be true, but even if it takes someone 10 chances to get it right, does that mean they should be condemned for the rest of the lives. NO!

So the LEAK ended up being NOTHING.

  34. Joe Says:

An act of discretion would have been better served.

Let Joe get this straight: You are more upset with Joe for reporting something that is public record than a guy that is not paying his bills?

    Fascinating.

Maybe if Freeman — or anyone else — doesn’t want to be embarrassed, they should pay their bills. Just a hunch.

What other subjects should be off limits reporting on? Maybe we shouldn’t mention Jameis Winston was involved in some gangbang gone bad because he wasn’t charged? I mean, it’s embarrassing for the young man, right?

Any other suggestions you want to throw out there?

  35. bucrightoff Says:

If Josh Freeman got his way, the Bucs franchise would be in ruins right now. So the people who wish him nothing but the worst are doing so for that reason. Again, the NFLPA investigation is where? Oh yeah, Freeman and his agent were attempting to smear this franchise.

So Josh Freeman can lick a big harry a-hole for all I care. Dude is a complete loser and wanted to destroy this franchise because Schiano was right that he was no good. That people still defend him is nauseating.

  36. Joe Says:

If Josh Freeman got his way, the Bucs franchise would be in ruins right now.

Sure seems like he got his way.

    @Joe

What is it to you if he is not paying his bills? Is it affecting your credit in any sort of way? Is it coming out of your pockets? No.

So you really mean to tell me that you posted this bit of information because you were so “upset” that Freeman wasn’t paying his bills?! If not, then why should I be!!!

Stick to football buddy. After all, I come here for football, not to see if Freeman is paying his bills. That would be my suggestion.

Freeman was the franchise quarterback and many fans are interested in what he’s up to and what happened to him. Joe routinely writes about all things connected to the Bucs. Wake up. –Joe

Key word there, WAS!!! If people are interested in that kind of dirt, then they should go dig it up themselves. As for how this currently affects the Bucs? It Doesn’t.

Typically Joe. Instead of admitting you were wrong, you tell people to move along. Hey that’s fine, at the end of the day I’m not the one who has to worry about.

That’s very nice, but Joe has no feeling of being wrong in the slightest. Joe writes about what interests Joe, as it relates to the Buccaneers. That hasn’t changed since Day 1 of this website. What happened to Freeman is one of the great mysteries in team history. Yes, Joe thinks his actions are of interest.–Joe

Some are really missing the point……Josh Freeman is a public figure….an athelete/entertainer….no different than a movie star or singer….he is supposed to be a role model.,….that’s why he made millions of dollars in his early twenties….
He sets himself up for ridicule when he does very stupid things.
Why not sell the house for a profit an donate it to charity?
It is not passing judgement on anyone to poke fun at their public stupidity.

  62. RealityCheck Says:

Freeman was allegedly at the Sunset Music Festival in Tampa on May 24th. He got cut from the Giants on May 30th. So he either new it was coming or he lost all desire to play football and decided to party in Tampa instead of learn the playbook. It’s a bizarre downward spiral and after spending years cheering for him, I’d still like to know what really happened.

  63. RastaMon Says:

Careful “bucsfan1979” I got “Bold typed” for using AFATC

  64. RastaMon Says:

OK…my take on Josh Freeman….I don’t think he grew up wanting, dreaming to be a football player…his was just a big athletic lug growing up and got talked into trying out /playing HS football…one thing led to the next…next thing he’s in the NFL as a high 1st round pick…he played proved to himself he could…but realize…hey…I never wanted to be a football player…..

  66. Dave Pear Says:

I agree with RastaMon’s take on Freeman. I remember watching some of his post game interviews and he seemed totally uninterested. Kind of like that Rick Scott commercial…”It looks like my signature. What was the question again”?

  67. buccanAy Says:

Sir, Joe’s already given a very clear answer. But to answer your latest question, Joe doesn’t play for the Bucs, and Joe getting scammed in the 1990s on identity theft, before it was as prevalent and mainstream as it is today, has no relevance here. As you’ve been told for years here, if you don’t like it, don’t read the site. Joe writes about what Joe finds relevant and interesting. What happened to Freeman is a big part of the history of the Bucs franchise. Joe is not going to ignore something tangible that represents evidence of a problem. –Joe

  68. BucBob1 Says:

    @Joe
Thanks for the heads up on Josh Freeman. I for one, am sorry about the situation and hope he’s able to get his life back on track. Do we know if he is still living in Tampa? I was a Freeman supporter and I appreciate any update to how he is doing. I wish the best for him and that he can get himself healthy again.

  73. ddneast Says:

Good job in reporting the facts Joe.
Freeman is not only a public figure, he made himself one, and is also an ex-Buc.
That is more than enough reason for Joe to post this. A lot of controversy swirled around Freeman’s dismissal and it still continues to this day. Another reason for Joe to report on this.
Was talking to the Sports Babe one morning on WDAE and she let it slip on air that Raheem Moris used to go out with Freeman to after hour bottle clubs.
    Not a good idea.
OahuBuc, the reason rich people have mortgages is the same reason middle and upper middle class people carry mortgages. They want to stay liquid and the interest paid on the loan serves as a tax break.
Architect would you please lay your thoughts about rich people paying their bills to Donald Trump. That swindling con man his filed for bankruptcy protection twice.

(Sorry, but Steve Duemig does not have the stance you claim he has. –Joe)

This article kind of falls into the same category Joe. Just more fodder for speculation and prolonging the “mystery”. If Duemig “knows” then I’m sure you “know” as well what happened to Freeman Joe. Quit skirting the issue with tidbits and innuendo. Out with it already or just don’t talk about it anymore.

Sorry, but Joe’s post here has nothing to do with innuendo or tidbits. And Joe is happy to say he knows nothing about the mystery that would solve the mystery –Joe

  78. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Josh Freeman did have all the potential in the world to be a good qb; the 2010 and 2012 seasons were not aberrations. He obvious had issues with anxiety and perhaps depression. He excelled when he was not micromanaged and not under the magnifying glass, ie; a pressure free environment like K-State where a 7-5 season was considered pretty damned good and 5-7 not the end of the world. Here in Tampa he got put under the microscope and the dude obviously did not gel with the attention and its seems pretty obvious that a laid back character like Freeman was not going to work well with a micromanager like Schiano and it did not take long for everything to unravel while someone lax with regulations like Rah probably lent the kid a bit too much slack but in the long course of things Josh chose his course in life and Joe reports that it does not look good. I sincerely hope the kid does not end up like Joe Gilliam….. Thanks for posting this Joe, hope we are not seeing a 30 for 30 tragedy in the making….

“The franchise is in part in the gutter because of Freeman’s antics.”

In part? How about in large part. We all agree that QB is a glaring weakness for the Bucs. Most want to blame it on a 3rd round draft pick. How about a first round wasted draft pick. And all of you who are so certain about Jameis or any QB should learn from this. When a team spends a top pick on a “franchise” QB the franchise is rolling the dice and failure can set the franchise back for a long, long time. Jameis has physical talent. So do other QB’s. Why take the risk on a prove immature troublemaker? I’m all for drafting a QB but Brady didn’t come in the first round, Johnny Unitas wasn’t even drafted.

Again I wouldn’t even mind us drafting two QB’s. If Licht could get somebody to cough up a 3rd round pick to replace the one we spent on MG8.

BUCS or the Wembley Park BUCS.

  89. Tye Says:

Reading through these comments and seeing Joe in every 3-4 gets your attention…. If you ever thought of him as a push over, this should change your perception… Much respect Joe, I know at times it can be a headache but many of us do appreciate you… Even when our frustrations about this team losing gets the best of us!

  90. Walter White Says:

Good write up Joe. Whatever (in the hell) happened to 5 is for sure a mystery. When he was good, man, he looked GOOD. I used to be a big fan of his and nearly bought an authentic Freeman jersey before deciding against it due to the fact my last jersey purchase (Cadillac) was not exactly fortuitous…

However, in addition to having read myself some information about Freeman by people who live in Tampa, things I do not know to be true but have some plausibility, have severely changed my opinion of the guy. I hope it’s not true, but there’s no doubt that SOMETHING happened or is going on.

On top of that, I think many Bucs fans understand that he was ultimately responsible for Rah losing his job (and subsequently, Schiano – point being, if 5 plays lights out we win and coach stays), and therefore his failures, whatever the root of them may be, have indeed set back our franchise several years.

  91. Zam Says:

Joe, please keep on reporting these, I for one am very curious. And given that the Glazers still own the team, it’s all highly relevant.

All the holier-than-thou people are “Inferiority Complex” personified. They yearn desperately to feel superior, so spend their lives lurking for something to get their noses out of joint about. Secretly they are happy to spot something they can fake outrage at.

  92. Mr Magoo Says:

  97. D-Rome Says:

I recall an interview Ira Kaufmann gave on 98.7 The Fan with Rock Riley (I believe) a few months ago. Ira claims to know the real story about Josh but he can’t go public with it. He didn’t state specifically why. He said one day the story will be told and when it is it will all make sense. I’ve heard the rumors about partying and I know a TPD officer who told me where he used to hang among other places. It seems like his family had (or has) their hooks in him pretty badly.

Say what you will about Freeman but he had the talent to be our franchise QB. Early in his career he had a great work ethic. Something happened, and it’s a shame.

lol free sites get to many idiots, joe takes for ever to load all your ads

You must have a bad computer. Joe’s site is quite fast, especially considering the ads. Even run off to your local lousy library computer and see. –Joe

Buc4lyfe I get it, you have the Josh Freeman Thriller pics all throughout your room with a massive one above your bed. You love Josh. But Glennon is 100 times better than the drug addict.

foreclousers and bankruptcy’s affect each and ever tax paying citizen therefore any tax payer has a right to bitch about DEAD BEAT LOSERS who don’t pay thier bills.

i am sure this is a foreign concept to the freeloaders and entitlement nation representatives who frequent this site.

    Joe,

Only 100 comments? The people who say that nobody cares about this topic must be right. haha.

JBF…all things Bucs past, present and future. I love it!!

  102. buc4lyfe Says:

    @bucrightoff

100 times better than Freeman really? bucrightoff- mike Glennon IS josh Freeman….. Freeman was labeled inaccurate and a head case that’s why he was run out of town. Guess what this is the second year in a ro . Check the stats because Glennon still isn’t completing 60%of his passes yet and probably about to get replaced by mccown, he’s garbage just like Freeman and just as inaccurate

  103. bucrightoff Says:

And still 100 times better than Freeman. Glennon will be in the NFL 10 years from now. Josh Freeman will be dancing on the boardwalk for nickels in 10 years.

  104. buc4lyfe Says:

God bless you friend lol josh mccown was in the NFL 10 and look at the respect he gets but if that’s your idea of successful I can only imagine you’re expectations in life aren’t aimed very high. 100 times better because he’s still in the NFL huh, leading the worse offense in the league with josh Freeman like accuracy. Loser mentality my friend wish you were fan of another team

  105. bucrightoff Says:

What’s successful to you? Blowing through $30 million on partying and have nothing to show for it except the most embarassing QB performance ever given, last years MNF football game? Well ok then, how successful Josh was!

Sorry you have such a hard on (still) for Freeman, but the dude is the biggest loser to ever play for this franchise. He’s such a loser he won’t even get a 30 for 30.

  106. LargoBuc Says:

I don’t get it. In 2010 Freeman appeared to have figured it out. Then after a 4-2 start Freeman, along with the rest of the team, just completely collapse and go 0-10 which to this day I don’t understand. Then under Schiano Freeman has the team 6-4 and in the wild card hunt followed by Poor play and a 1-5 finish. 4,000+ yards 27 TD’s. only 16 INT’s. Did Schiano really drive Freeman off the deep end? As a die hard Buc fan, It’s baffling and frustrating and just such a shame. It’s like 2009-2013 were just a waste. Lost years.

  107. LargoBuc Says:

BTW Josh Freeman gets SERIOUS consideration for the best qb to ever play for the Bucs. Not counting Steve Young who we had but let walk away. Look at all the franchise records Freeman holds.

  108. Vincente Says:

I just want to know what happen. He was a great football player, that 2010 season was amazing. Damn Freeman what’s wrong with you dude I really believed in you man

  109. pick6 Says:

    1. i’m still convinced freeman and his agent sabotaged themselves to make it look like schiano and the bucs were crossing the line. no NFL team is going to welcome that into their building
    2. i’m sure he just forgot to set a reminder to make the mortgage payments. you know how josh is

  110. bucfever40 Says:

I was very interested to read this, Freeman in a way, is an enigma. There is a ton of mystery tied to this young man, and news like this (good or bad) kind of sheds a little light on Josh’s post NFL career. It’s hard to believe someone who once had it all, fell so quickly.

    Good job joe.
