Eagles strongman Chip Kelly would have to trade away his team to get the No. 1 pick from the Bucs.

A segment of misguided Bucs fans really believes the Bucs should trade down in the draft. Really, it’s true.

For reasons Joe cannot grasp, the team is in position to rid itself of the ball and chain that has kept this franchise in the lower reaches for far too many years, and address its most important and glaring need. (more…)

It’s good to be bad sometimes, notes a former Buccaneers quarterback, who says Marcus Arroyo cost the team three or four wins. (more…)

Man, yesterday was a zoo at radio row at the Super Bowl. And Joe learned something: Handlers of every two-bit celebrity (not to mention the real celebrities) DO NOT like reporters.

These suits have no use for reporters. The hired guns treated Joe and others like mosquitoes, swatting at them and shoveling their clients from radio table to radio table. A reporter wanting questions just screws up everything for them. (more…)

Demar Dotson has been an almost average right tackle on an underperforming offensive line for two consecutive seasons.

And now your Tampa Bay Buccaneers want him to shift to left tackle — as he approaches his 30th birthday. (more…)

The dot connecting sect of the Marcus Mariota Gang erupted in glee yesterday when Adam Schefter became the second BSPNer in recent weeks to knight the Oregon quarterback as the first overall pick in April’s draft.

Never mind that Mariota hasn’t been interviewed by the Bucs. Never mind he has a bum shoulder. Never mind he hasn’t had a pro day. Never mind he has never diagrammed a play for the Tampa Bay. Never mind the NFL Scouting Combine is a month away. (more…)

Brett Favre offers an intriguing take

Joe was very intrigued to hear of Brett Favre’s recent commentary on old school Tampa-2 defense.

And, yes, Lovie Smith is running old school Tampa-2. (more…)

Did you miss the JoeBucsFan Hour live on Radio Row in Phoenix, with Joe joining the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620?

Well, Joe’s got it all here. (more…)

Spreadsheeters don’t think the pass blocking of the Bucs was all that horrible.

Joe has stated before he would not be shocked if the Bucs replaced four of their five starting offensive linemen.

Apparently, those who make a living with Excel spreadsheets have other ideas. The nerds over at Pro Football Focus banged out data on pass blocking for every NFL team, and if you think Josh McCown was a garish turnover machine, well, you may be wrong. (more…)

Joe’s not sure of what to make of BSPN super insider Adam Schefter’s latest call on the Bucs’ choice with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. (more…)

Former Bucs TE Tim Wright, now a member of the Patriots, talked about his days with the Pewter Pirates, some of the most turbulent in franchise history;.

One of Joe’s favorite players is in the Super Bowl this Sunday. Naturally, he’s not playing for the Bucs.

Tight end Tim Wright was used for trade bait to lure he-left-his-heart-in-New England barbecue pitmaster guard Logan Mankins. Since, Wright has continued to develop as a fine NFL player and Mankins is still searching for that elusive spot in Florida for a barbecue. (more…)

A four-time Pro Bowl quarterback weighs in via a private chat with Joe at Super Bowl Media Day.

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida. (more…)

Clinton McDonald’s old teammate speaks out

One guy not gunning for a second Super Bowl ring with the Seahawks is Bucs defensive tackle Clinton McDonald.

Joe talked to a few of McDonald’s old teammates about him at Super Bowl Media Day in Phoenix, and one offered an interesting take. (more…)

Imagine what the NFL would be like if former Bucs defensive end and current Seahawks star Michael Bennett was running the league.

There’s no chance it would be nicknamed the No Fun League. (more…)

As he promised weeks ago on “10 Sports Extra” with Joe’s friend Chris Fischer, stud Bucs outside linebacker Lavonte David arrived in Phoenix, site of Super Bowl XLIX, to roam through radio row yesterday and go through the car wash.

David had made it clear he wanted to start marketing himself to stop these galling snubs from Pro Bowl honors and All-Pro teams. (more…)

Darrelle Revis’ handlers blew up two trade deals the Bucs had on the table, claims CBS Sports.

Fascinating what can happen when solid writers have a week to sit down and probe NFL contacts, coaches and executives to dig up a juicy story. And heavy-metal-headbanging Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports did just that.

La Canfora pieced together a story on just how All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, shoved out the back door by the Bucs last offseason, turned up on Bill Belicheat’s front door. (more…)

From the bottom of Joe’s heart, thank you TV Azteca for all the advances you have made in broadcast journalism. You have truly turned the medium into a visual medium. Roger Ailes took concise notes.

Not every Buccaneer is hiding his head in shame after a disastrous 2014 season.

One actually popped up today, as Joe mingled on famed Radio Row of the Phoenix convention center. (more…)

Of all the people Joe never imagined running into at the Super Bowl media center in downtown Phoenix was none other than former Bucs (?) quarterback Jake “The Snake” Plummer.

Folks may remember how Plummer, then with the Broncos, led Denver to the 2006 AFC title game, where they were blitzed by Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers, arguably Big Ben’s best game as an NFL quarterback. (more…)
