Dave Canales In Shock Over Curb-Stomping By Bucs
October 26th, 2026
Carolina coach Dave Canales.
Now that is what you call belt-to-ass.
The Bucs win over Carolina yesterday was as close to domination as Joe has ever seen the Bucs do to another team.
Oh, Joe has seen a Bucs defense dominate and choke out opponents, especially in the glory days when Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch, Rondé Barber and Simeon Rice were kicking ass and taking names.
Joe also has seen the Bucs light up a scoreboard like a pinball machine, especially when Bucco Bruce Arians was around. But for both sides of the ball to do that? Maybe not since the Bucs chain-whipped the Chiefs in the Super Bowl has Joe seen a Bucs game like that.
Former Bucs offensive coordinator and current Stinking Panthers coach Dave Canales was rattled trying to describe what he just saw, and how his team was seal-clubbed.
“I mean, it’s a shock,” Canales said. “For me to be able to move on from it, literally, I’ve never been a part of a half a football like that.”
Canales was speaking about the first half where the Bucs manhandled the Stinking Panthers in just about every possible way. The icing on the cake for Joe was blocking an extra point and returning a conversion for a safety.
“To experience [a severe beating] in all phases, you know, a block kick, sack-fumble, interception, you know, a drop punt, and then you know on the defensive side, really just not getting off the field in different ways,” Canales said.
The only element in which the Bucs did not crush the Stinking Panthers was passing. Baker Mayfield only threw for 64 yards. He didn’t need to have a big game. The game was over.
“Shoot, it was just like, I don’t know,” Canales said, struggling for words. “The moment was just, it just felt, you know, so crazy and so egregiously different than the ball that we’re used to playing.”
The Bucs sort of reminded Joe of the 2023 undefeated Florida State team that got hosed out of a playoff berth because they lost their star quarterback Jordan Travis late in the season.
Florida State kept winning. They didn’t need a quarterback. They kicked ass every which way but at quarterback.
The Bucs delivered as much of a chain-whipping as you can with an ineffective quarterback.

Great win today. But the Bucs beating raider in 02 and chiefs in 20 was a thing of beauty cause those offense were some of the best the league had seen. Even the greats show on turf the rams might have bin just a bit better than those offenses but our defenses those years were legit. Loved watching them and today brought those memories back. Defense wins championships and a good ground game too. Next game up

another way that fsu team was similar was they didn’t have a capable backup qb unfortunately

Baker was not ineffective. He managed the game perfectly. If you don’t have to pass to get first downs, the why should you. But when he did pass, it was also effective. The TD to Tez was a thing of beauty

That was the right decision to exclude fsu from the cfb playoffs that year. After they lost the qb they had zero chance

It was fantastic.
I mentioned the curb stomping of the Chiefs in a couple of my other post today.
It felt a lot like that.
It was glorious.
THAT is who this team is.
THAT is how they can Win games.
Run the ball. Blitz the QB
Our strengths. What we can do better than most.
Baker Mayfields thumb was so badly dislocated, that the bone came thru the the skin.
What. The. FK!
I’ve survived a lot of really bad things. I spent 268 days in a hospital in one year.
I’ve been clinical dead 7 times. Came back. Never saw a light.
If My thumb bone was so badly dislocated that the bone tore thru the skin,
I wouldn’t be wearing a glove- trying to play football 3 weeks later.
I’d still be in the hospital, barking for pain meds.
Then I’m watching the Tape. Everyone who missed a block on that play is getting a visit from me and my lucky Louisville.
Knee shots. A lot of them
See you next year fella. Enjoy 9 months of Rehab.
