A Bill Belichick Team Glazer Fit

November 1st, 2026

Bill Belichick (left) grabbed headlines last night. Bucs GM Jason Licht (right) is his former protégé.

Bucs ownership may already be hunting a quick-fix head coach for their talented defense and veteran, big-money quarterback.

The odds seem flimsy that Team Glazer, if it wants to keep Baker Mayfield next season, would want to hand him off to a newbie head coach when the Todd Bowles regime ends.

Of coure, there’s no obligation for the Bucs to continue with Mayfield. But that’s the highly likely path at quarterback, and Joe can find $55 million reasons why.

Watching Bill Belichick’s Unversity of North Carolina team lose by three points to No. 1 ranked University of Miami last night had to affirm to anyone still skeptical of Belichick’s coaching chops — at 74 years old — that he can develop players and lead young men.

Arguably the greatest coach in NFL history likely wants another crack at the NFL. Belichick is 15 wins short of the all-time NFL record.

He wouldn’t command a long-term contract because of his age. And Belicheat likely would want a team capable of winning quickly in a sour division. Team Glazer consulted with him on a coaching search 15 years ago.

Joe is not advocating for Belicheat in Tampa, but he sure would be an intriguing and attractive candidate if the Bucs finish the final 10 games this season playing solid football (a 6-4 record?) and leave fans wondering/knowing what could have been with a seasoned winner at the helm.

Joe thinks Team Glazer would love the local and national interest Belicheat would inject into the franchse, and the fact that Belicheat would be less of a total financial commitment than many other options.

As for Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht, he worked side-to-side with Belichick in New England. Joe has no doubt Licth would say, “I can work with Bill.”

Food for thought as Bowles tries to up his regular season home Bucs record today to 19-20.

But… we already have Todd Bowels !

  2. TG Says:

    NO

  3. Beeej Says:

MAYbe if that hot girlfriend comes with

  4. Ron Mexico Says:

Please, no. At this moment I still think McDermott is the best option.

  5. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

No, hard pass. We need a new young innovative offensive minded HC PERIOD.
Not some old man who hasn’t done squat without Tom Brady . No way Glazers want the circus problems of his “wife” and son Steve bring with him.

  6. JustOneGame Says:

74, that’s the only tho my you need to know. He’s not a long term solution (and there’s no guarantee anyone else would be) and would only be a stop gap until another coach is hired.

First, let’s see how this season plays out

  7. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

@Beej, I think I heard a rumor they aren’t together anymore, so that’s one strike against BB.

Good work by Joe, because I always thought this was a possibility:

    *BB wants that record
    *The Glazers love being relevant.
    *The JL connection

Now the question to ask, do people think Brady winning a ring here would make BB more or less likely to want this job?

For the record, he is not my choice. But if forced to pick between him, Tomlin or the 4th-6th best new guy, yeah I would take him.

  8. WalkDaPlank Says:

Tom: See I won without Bill in Tampa.
Bill: See I won without Tom in Tampa.
It would be interesting but time is not on his side and hopefully a division championship and a deep run into this season’s playoffs puts off that notion. We shall see. The offense on this team will be the decisive answer to this season. Defense and special teams appear to be largely fixed.

  9. Falconrap Says:

No. Hell no. Hell to the F no. Did I mention…NO!? This team needs a coach that will crawl up their a$$e$ and get them to consistently play to their abilities.

  10. BucaneroJim Says:

At around the same age, rather see Danny Smith strutting chopping gum than Bellecheat looking frozen with constipation on the sideline… or bring in Dave Moore for HC.

  11. Falconrap Says:

Forgot to say, that I mean a younger coach who can do that. Belicheat is too old.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Drunk Bucs Fan, why would you not want Tomlin?

The man has zero losing seasons over his long head coaching career.

  13. Marine Buc Says:

I just threw up in my mouth five times…

Look up old Bily Boyz record sans TB12.

    Yeeesh – that’s ugly ya’ll.

I’d rather have Tomlinson over Old Billy Boy – But honestly I don’t want either.

  14. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai,

I don’t want Tomlin for the same reason I don’t want Bowles anymore. When we get to the playoffs I actually want the Bucs to accomplish something. It why I also don’t want McDermott, who is a Wild Card Round genius then nothing else

  15. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Bonzai

Mike Tomlin’s regular-season record as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2022 through his resignation in January 2026 is 39-29-0, with a postseason record of 0-4…

Not horrible but if Tomlinson has a certified REAL QB he could do some damage as a HC.

He needed Big Ben in order to succeed in the NFL just like OLD Billy Boy needed TB12 and just like Tony Dungy needed Payton Manning.

This team is stuck with the fullback Baker Mayfield – not good.

  16. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

    @Marine,

Don’t misunderstand me, I don’t want him either. Just that he might be the best of bad options if all the good young coaches want to go elsewhere.

  17. Allen Lofton Says:

Let’s see how this season shapes up. If the Bucs end up winning their division, the Glazers may enrage the Bowles haters by returning him for another season at the helm. This plot thickens.

  18. garro Says:

Hmm I like that thought Joe. Anyone else likely to be available? Funny how things shake out sometimes. I looked at the HC jobless market a few weeks ago and…Nope. College coaches are a gamble most of the time. As we know. See the old ball coach, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, and coach three a day Perkins.

    Go Bucs!

  19. garro Says:

Oops Perkins was Not a college HC but…

    Go Bucs!

  20. Confido75 Says:

Thats a hard pass. If you want to bring him in as.an advisor, fine, but not as the HC. We need a coach that can legitimately build a sustainable winner for 10 years or more. Belichick is another BA situation. Also, Brady is the reason Belichick won those SBs. That has been proven already. Once Brady left NE for TB Belichick never saw the playoffs again as a legitimate SB contender.

  21. ryan Says:

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  22. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Drunk

    I agree.

All I am saying is – if you hire any of these old defensive “guru” guys as HC – don’t expect much more than mediocrity until the Bucs land a top 5 (at least a top 10) QB…

Might as well keep the Toad and let the Baker BS play out.

  23. JimBobBuc Says:

“Joe thinks Team Glazer would love the local and national interest” which means money in the cheap Glazers pockets. I would go for Bill if the Glazers could get Tampa to put a partial roof on Ray Jay.

  24. SummerofGeorge Says:

Nope. Dude can’t win without Tom Brady. We already have a HC that couldn’t win with TB12.

Enough of this recycled article every year during Bowels latest lost season.

We need a young offensive minded HC that believes in throwing the ball farther than the line of scrimmage.

These dusty old coaches think it’s still 1953 and you can run the ball to a title.

The NFL has evolved. It’s past time we do the same. Wake up Joe!

  25. Mort Says:

I’d rather have Gruden back than BB, tyvm.

  26. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Drew Petzing- Offensive Coordinator, Lions.
Lions currently have NFL 2nd ranked Offense and Goff is having his best season ever – almost 300 yards/game, 14 TD’s and 0 interceptions
