Is there any weight to the Rod Marinelli-to-Bucs chatter?

Bucs fans erupted in glee when they learned, via the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, that Dallass defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was expected to take a similar position with Tampa Bay.

A Bucs’ source, however, offered a curious “no comment” comment to Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune. (more…)

Utah State LB Zach Vigil might be a third-day draft to keep an eye on.

Joe has been at the Shrine Game practices the past two days over in St. Petersburg, and has quality content coming from the events.

Of course, the vast majority of players there are third-day draft picks if not undrafted free agents. Doesn’t mean there aren’t jewels to find. (more…)

This commentary from Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht left Joe banging his head against a wall. (more…)

Bucs fans have had it with garbage quarterback play. They see the quarterbacks in the playoffs and know the Bucs do not have a QB that could lead the team to the conference championships.

Bucs fans understand if you don’t have a quarterback, you are screwed. (more…)

A prominent draft guru and former NFL scout says Marcus Mariota closed his season on the upswing

Jameis Winston did not hurt his outstanding draft stock one bit against the University of Oregon on New Year’s Day. Winston did plenty that made pro scouts drool in ecstasy.

And, frankly, Marcus Mariota went out on an upswing, too, despite the loss in the national title game last night. (more…)

The Cowboys seem to think Rod Marinelli is staying put.

Joe couldn’t believe it. There was finally a respite for Bucs fans screaming at each other whether to draft Jameis Winston at the end of April or not.

And the subject that stopped the turmoil was about a coach with the Dallass Cowboys, of all people. (more…)

Comment here with Bucs fans all night long

Is the Buccaneers’ next quarterback on the field tonight playing for the national championship?

Joe hopes not, but it’s possible. Don’t worry, Joe wouldn’t pout for more than an hour or so if the Bucs do, in fact, draft Oregon QB Marcus Mariota over Jameis Winston.

Mariota faces the greatest pressure of his career on college football’s biggest — and newest — stage tonight. Rest assured Bucs overlord of football operations Lovie Smith will be watching.

Kickoff is 8:30 p.m. on BSPN.

Bang it here in the comments section all through the game. Joe expects to see all kinds of Mariota love.

Joe’s got his eye on a free agent with strong ties to Jason Licht and Dirk Koetter

Joe can’t play pretend when it comes to the Buccaneers’ offensive line.

Lovie Smith says Demar Dotson looks promising at left tackle, Logan Mankins did everything asked of him, and Evan Dietrich-Smith is a foundation player for the franchise going forward. (more…)

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

Local TV ratings for the Bucs this past season proves Bucs fans crave drama.

Joe finds it amusing when Bucs fans rail that the team doesn’t need drama. Oh, how wrong they are.

NFL suits on Park Ave. know full well that drama draws eyeballs, that drama draws fans, and that drama — most important of all — sells. (more…)

Believe it or not, a hefty percentage of Bucs fans don’t want to draft a quarterback with Tampa Bay’s No. 1 overall draft pick.

Whether they’re members of the Mike Glennon Mob or just plain insane, Joe doesn’t get it.

Thankfully, Bucs general manager Jason Licht is of sound mind. (more…)

So what’s the latest on Rod Marinelli coming back to Tampa? (more…)

Former Bucs CB Rashaan Melvin, now with the Crows, had a bad day.

Joe noticed Twitter anger simmering in Bucs fans Saturday afternoon. On the field for the Crows in their AFC semifinal game at the Patriots was former Tampa Bay cornerback Rashaan Melvin.

The former undrafted free agent was the apple of former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik’s eye. He truly thought he had an undrafted steal. When Melvin wasn’t hurt, he showed flashes in both of his Bucs training camps. (more…)

Bucs OC Dirk Koetter’s offense is based on the LaVell Edwards playbook, says Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

If recent history is any barometer, Bucs fans may very well like what they see in their offense this coming fall. That was the message from Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune last night, as he appeared on Sunday Sports Extra with local raconteur Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV, Channel 8.

The main topic discussed was, of course, the new hire of offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, who served in the same position recently with the Dixie Chicks. (more…)

Rumors are flying claiming Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is expected to join the Bucs.

It has been scant hours since the Dallass Cowboys lost a controversial game (Ha-ha!) to the Packers in the NFC semifinals, and already folks are pushing the notion that Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is headed to the Bucs.

The creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, first got this rumormill into gear when he wrote Marinelli is “expected” to be the Bucs defensive coordinator.

The Bucs would need to make changes if they want Marcus Mariota to go the Aaron Rodgers/Carson Palmer route — and avoid a fan uprising.

Marcus Mariota lovers happily refer to their guy as the next Aaron Rodgers. They talk about how Mariota can be like Rodgers, sit on the bench for at least a season and come in and play savior.

But that reality can’t exist in Tampa. (more…)

The biggest knock on University of Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is that he’s not running anything close to an NFL offense, therefore, the experts say, he’s got a lot to learn in order to become NFL-ready. (more…)

The Bucs improved their sack total this past season, despite a ghostly figure playing right defensive end.

Little gets Bucs fans aggravated more than talking about sacks. Or in the case of the Bucs, that would be lack of sacks.

(By the way, yesterday, the two teams that ran the ball better than their opponents lost. The Bucs have no quarterback and have the No. 1 pick overall for being the most miserable team in the NFL. Anyone else besides Joe see a pattern here? In other words, it was yet another rough day for the naive “defense wins championships” crowd.) (more…)
