Comment here with Bucs fans all night long

Is the Buccaneers’ next quarterback on the field tonight playing for the national championship?

Joe hopes not, but it’s possible. Don’t worry, Joe wouldn’t pout for more than an hour or so if the Bucs do, in fact, draft Oregon QB Marcus Mariota over Jameis Winston.

Mariota faces the greatest pressure of his career on college football’s biggest — and newest — stage tonight. Rest assured Bucs overlord of football operations Lovie Smith will be watching.

Kickoff is 8:30 p.m. on BSPN.

Bang it here in the comments section all through the game. Joe expects to see all kinds of Mariota love.

  1. MadMax Says:

Im guessing Oregon by 2 td’s or more. That up tempo offense and their D will be too much for Ohio.

  2. Wombat Says:

Chip Kelly just said Mariota has the mind of a Peyton Manning with elite physical ability and may be the fastest player on the field….

I know he hasn’t played in a NFL style offense, but is that his fault?

Will be interesting to see how he plays and whether he lives up to all the hype!!

  3. Lovie equals 2015 Blackouts Says:

    Marcus, Marcus!!!

  4. Lovie equals 2015 Blackouts Says:

OSU looked strong against Bama tho.

  5. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

As a fan of UGA, of course I despise Urban Meyer, but I feel for Florida fans after that stunt he pulled on them when his pal Tebow left. Regardless of how Mariota plays, I hope Oregon crushes OSU. Still, only reason I’ll be watching is because of Mariota.

  6. iamkingsu Says:

Its Urban’s offense he’ll find a way to make Mariota throw from the pocket more than usual. Ohio St 6.5 dawg but wins by 11(Oregon gos for 2 alot)

  7. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

So can we count this as Joe’s first “Mariota Watch”? 🙂

  8. MadMax Says:

@MW Walkdaplank, thats the main reason I took time off from work tonight. We could be drafting Mariota and I want to see him again on this big stage. He had a bad first half against Fl St. but calmed down some in the 2nd. He’s fast with his legs and his decisions, but I want to see him throwing some accurate passes instead of relying so much on the run game.

  9. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

I want to see Urban having chest pains….

  10. Destinjohnny Says:

    Can’t watch heartbroken bAma fan

  11. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    @Mad Max

    Ditto

  12. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    Are L & L at the game?

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Huge pressure on Mariota to perform…..National Championship…missing 2WR, TE…..look for him to take the Ducks on his back and run!!!

Either good or bad….Like Orange Bowl…..can’t make decision on one or two games…but nevertheless it’s important.

  14. Joe Says:

Anyone seeing a Rich Eisen Marriott video commercial when reading specific posts this evening. Not the home page? Thanks. –Joe

  15. Lovie equals 2015 Blackouts Says:

The most depressing thing about 2015… Lovie Smith is still the coach.

  16. R.O. Says:

One read and go. Don’t want him..

  17. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I think the three top coaches in the college game today are obviously Saban and right there with him is Urban and Jimbo is not the far behind.

I’m not an Urban fan after what he did to Florida but you simply have to respect his results.

  18. MadMax Says:

Yes Joe, popped up for me

  19. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Joe, I am seeing the Rich Eisen video. Was Hoping for one of the Russian website videos. No such luck.

  20. Eric Says:

    Go ducks.

I’m slightly worried Marcus won’t declare if they lose this one.

  21. Vern4499 Says:

    Yes Joe!

  22. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Ahhh! I have to spend the night away from a tv and the brighthouse app won’t tune in away from home!!!!! ARGH!!!!!

  23. DB55 Says:

    Bonzai

    First-world problems

  24. DB55 Says:

    Yo Joe

The iPhone is good right now but earlier today a video popped up while commenting on the Olineman article.

  25. BucsQcCity Says:

Great opportunity to see MM. lots of weapon on O sode injured/suspended. We’ll see how he can do on the biggest stage

  26. DB55 Says:

Has anyone thought of putting a spy on this Mariotta kid or is he just that fast that it doesn’t matter? Does this kid have mike Vick speed?

  27. Hunter Says:

Mariota or bust . All this who’s more pro ready talk is a ridiculous conversation. This kid has it on and off the field.

  28. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I get a popup on my laptop too.

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    DB55

    4.4 40. I don’t recall Vick’s 40 but that’s motoring pretty good.

  30. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Clearing my cache got rid of it 🙂

  31. finishers Says:

    Go Ducks

  32. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Will be interesting to see what Mariota does without his leading receiver. Would be like Winston without Greene.

  33. chris Says:

    Is Corso drunk?

  34. Jason Licht Says:

    Don’t worry guy’s, we’re gonna draft him.

  35. DB55 Says:

Vick = as low as 4.25

  36. []_[]Buc Says:

Watching and rooting for Mariota tonight.
He needs to show anticipation and mid to deep throw accuracy.

I want the best QB for the Bucs and these are things Mariota needs to show to prove he can be that guy.

Winston had a heck of a lot to prove off the field before any true fan can comfortably say they are ok brining him in.

  37. Luther Says:

I’m hoping that Mariota plays well enough that Titans will pick him up. 🙂

  38. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t give a Mariota if they draft this kid.

  39. []_[]Buc Says:

    Has*

  40. Soggy Says:

    What is BSPN?

  41. []_[]Buc Says:

That popup video is annoying indeed.

I shouldn’t have to clear anything to use any site.

  42. StPeteBucsFan Says:

4.25!!! DB55 that is smoking fast. But then has there ever been a faster QB than Vick?

The Bucs were lucky they had the real DB55 who seemed to have Vick’s #.

If someone else does draft Mariota and we play him I hope Levonte can reprise DB55’s classic games against Vick.

  43. Soggy Says:

Nevermind it must be BS sport network..

  44. Jeagan1999 Says:

Go Buckeyes! That being said, can’t wait to see Mariota finish his career on a strong note. Next stop for MM…One Buc Place!

  45. DB55 Says:

    StPete

Those were classic match ups. Doesn’t get much better than Vick vs Brooks.

  46. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Based off of NFL Combine results for QBs with a 40 yd dash time:

Reggie McNeal had the fastest time of 4.35
    RG3 had a 4.41
    Marcus Vick had a 4.42
    Colin Kaepernick had a 4.53
    Russel Wilson had a 4.55
    Cam Newton had a 4.59

  47. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Compared to RBs and WRs:

Chris Johnson is the fastest with a 4.24

Marquise Goodwin is the fastest WR with a 4.27

  48. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Corso is not drunk he’s just getting old and I think he had a stroke a couple of years ago.

When I was at the University of Cincinnati our broadcasting department televised (internally for learning purposes)one football game a year. The Seniors produced it and we underclassman got to do other jobs. When I was a sophomore I got to do the on field interviews.

It was Louisville and the Cardinals beat us like a drum. I catch up to Corso on the field for the interview and he’s on fire. He grabs the mike and just takes off. One of my best interviews ever since he grabbed the mike and I didn’t even get to talk. LOL

Corso was a major character in his day. Once a team was just destroying his Cardinals and decided to kick a FG late in the 4th. Many people would be p!sse but Corso handled it with humor and also embarrassed the other coach. As the opponents lined up for the FG Corso runs out onto the field waving a white towel for the white flag of surrender! It was hilarious!

Because Corso took time to be a nice guy to a college kid on the field after the game I’ve always been a fan.

  49. Dan A Says:

All this talk about being NFL ready now is ludicrous, when teams need to be focused on the long term. You can’t have the production that Mariota has to not have the ability to win in the NFL. If he is mentored correctly and given an offense that will utilize his skills, there should be no reason he would not be around for a long time and become a true franchise QB. I think that Winston can be exposed due to his inaccuracy and tendency to take too many chances. He doesn’t have a good understanding on when not doing something stupid. With that being said the Bucs should draft a punter #1 overall and end all the controversy.

  50. MadMax Says:

    @chris

Corso suffered a stroke in 2009 thats affected his speech. If you’re a fan of college game day, you cant help but love the guy, especially when he gets frustrated trying to say something and says “ah fk it”!!! I love watching him.

  51. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

This pop-up every time you post is crazy. Starting to get very irritating.

  52. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @MadMaxx

    Hey Brotha

    My 2015 Prospect Watch List

    • (SS) Erick Dargan Oregon (5-11/212)-2 Time All- Pac-12*Beast ←Grab’em
    • (DT) Michael Bennett Ohio State (6-2/288)
    • (DE) Arik Armstead Oregon (6-7/296)

    • (OLB) Noah Spence Ohio State (6-3/252) -Interesting Strong Side backer w/ pass rush skills. Needs to keep nose clean…literally

    Honorable Mention:
    OLB Derrick Malone Oregon (6-2/220)

  53. cmurda Says:

I’m high on Dargan and Armstead. I’m definitely interested to see how they fare against OSU’s O. I really like Spence as well but his skillset doesn’t translate well to the Tampa 2 defense.

  54. The don Says:

I remembr best moment of Corso was when he tried shaking the hand of a blind kid. Championship game a few yrs back. He stuck his hand out for almost 10 seconds. It was brutle

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @cmurda

Yeah, Dargan got that Dog-In Em’..I hear you about Spence, but IMO the strong side backer in the traditional Cover 2 needs to evolve.

  56. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    Not a fumble.

  57. MadMax Says:

What up Brother Luv? Glad to see you here and speculating/Scouting. I’ll look into those guys. Whats your take on AJ Cann from the Gamecocks? Ive read he’s the best guard in some articles.

  58. MadMax Says:

Mariota is looking VERY GOOD so far!

  59. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    One read and gone huh?

  60. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Cmon guys. This guy makes Jameis look like a slow tub of goo!

  61. Luther Says:

Busted coverage…this is what he faces. Not that hard

  62. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Nice little pass there

  63. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @MadMax

Solid Prospect for a zone blocking scheme @ LG.

  64. Soggy Says:

Looks pretty good to me..Nice drive

  65. Lovie equals 2015 Blackouts Says:

Everytime I refresh I get that dumb black popup.

This IS NOT gonna work for me tonight.

  66. StPeteBucsFan Says:

So Mariota has his primary receiver on the right and stares him down…the pocket collapses and Mariota escapes and keep looking first right..and before he takes off running looks left and BINGO.

They’ve done this now against FSU and Ohio State. Do both these defenses suck? Hardly!

  67. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I am so missing it. How is Mariota looking? Any bad signs?

  68. rayjay1122 Says:

    Wow!!!

  69. ChanEpic Says:

Mariota looks like a great NFL backup tonight.

Auto-play video ads are a scourge… Thanks Joe!

  70. Jeagan1999 Says:

MM has tremendous pocket presence and is great throwing on the run!

  71. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Bigger fan of Jamil Douglas @ LG though.

  72. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

So tell me. Is he throwing his wide receivers open? I can’t watch. Apartment getting a makeover and I am stuck with no espn at a friends house.

  73. Luther Says:

Bubble screens, runs and busted routes…TD!!! Not missing anything Bonzai

  74. Soggy Says:

    @BuccaneerBonzai try this http://www.time4tv.com/2011/09/espn.php

  75. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Lovie equals no blackouts,

The FCC’s decision in September to quit enforcing the NFL’s blackout rule didn’t end the blackout rule. With no blackouts in the 2014 NFL season, the Senate nevertheless wants the NFL to get rid of the blackout rule for good.

    There won’t be blackouts.

  76. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Luther

We get it. Mariota could throw three 70 yard bombs from the pocket to well covered receivers and you’d whine but look at his OL and how much time he has.

There is NOTHING Mariota can do that you will recognize. You’re eyes are glazed over in Garnet and Gold.

I get that Mariota may have a GREAT game tonight and Jameis COULD still be the better pick. But Mariota is also a talented player.

  77. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Good college QB’s seem to grow on trees at OSU.

  78. cmurda Says:

    @Luv,

This is true. We saw Lavonte do more rushing/blitzing under Schiano in basically the same scheme. The SAM is the most logical place to blitz from. In our defense so much is asked for in coverage and that’s where I have my concerns with Spence. I’m not saying he can’t do it but if he has a weakness that’s where I think it is.

It’s really virtually impossible to evaluate Mariota for me. The guy is put in such great situations thanks to the spread playcalling but what’s not to like. He always looks sharp in his decision-making and he’s got talent maneuvering the pocket. His ability to progress through reads from under center is called into question but Oregon does so little of it that how can you really know how he handles it?

  79. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I gotta say Cardale Jones is also gaining my respect for a kid in his situation.

  80. ChanEpic Says:

Heck after that play on the LB, I’d take Jones over Mr. Softie Marcus Areola..

    I kid I kid…

  81. rayjay1122 Says:

Damn…Oregon plays so fast on both sides of the ball. I do not think the speed of the NFL would seem so fast after being at Oregon. Lol

  82. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Wife just remembered the brighthouse log on info 🙂

Watching on the app now (WatchESPN app)

  83. Flmike Says:

So which one is the one read and bail guy out there tonight, because it looks like the kid from Ohio is bailing on first read….

  84. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Serious question and all of you can unload all of your ad hom attacks on me at one blast!

I get the difference between coming out from under center and the shotgun. Remember Gruden who had to be FORCED into ever running the gun.

But as far as reading progressions what’s the difference? In once instance you have to drop back and read and in the other you’re already back there but you still have to go through the reads. Mariota did that very well on that first TD pass.

  85. ChanEpic Says:

People give a lot of credit to the QB but gosh darn this offense is a thing of beauty. #keepingperspective

  86. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

17 seconds from end of play, next play starts. Nice.

  87. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Freshmen dropped it. Come on

  88. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @MadMax

    Any thoughts on…

    Center Prospects
    • Dillon Day

    Right Guard Prospects
    • Jamon Brown* <-Reminds of Donald Penn
    • John Miller
    • Chaz Green <-Swing Tackle Prospect
    • Mickey Baucus <-Swing Tackle Prospect

  89. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Damn Mariota must have Jameis receivers dropping those passes.

  90. cmurda Says:

I’m loving how much this has to be truly paining Kirk Herbstreit

  91. Mr. Patrick Says:

Mariota doesn’t have his #1 or #2 recievers tonight. We’ll see if that figures in later in the game

  92. rayjay1122 Says:

Winston may be more “pro ready” or whatever but Mariota I think will have a much better NFL career.

  93. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan
Shotgun is useful behind a bad oline. You tend to have 1-2 extra seconds.

If you watched the playoffs this weeked, you saw a lot of snaps from the gun. But, of course, the winston people won’t admit that.

  94. Mr. Patrick Says:

So far tonight Mariota looks NFL ready. Trent Dilfer STFU

  95. chris Says:

Sorry about Corso, damn Mariotta looks good.

  96. ChanEpic Says:

Mr. Patrick – Ohio State is playing their 3rd string freshman QB. This is truly a test of wills between the coaches.

  97. StPeteBucsFan Says:

How would you like to play defense for Oregon. Rodney Dangerfield could relate.
    Talk about getting no respect!

  98. Eric Says:

I’m still waiting for something approaching a professional throw. Haven’t seen it yet.

  99. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

The Tampa 2 is based on speed as well. Imagine, a fast offense and a faster defense.

  100. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Nice pass by that other QB.

  101. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Dang. Trade down and wait for Jones to come out!!!

  102. bucrightoff Says:

This offense makes Mark Sanchez look competent and Nick Foles have a 27TD 2INT season. It’s not an overly complex system, it’s just very well executed which is coaching obviously.

  103. ChanEpic Says:

Running shotgun on every play forces pro OCs to change their playbooks and philosophy. If it was so easy more people who are paid to do this would be doing it. Also, can anyone list the Oregon QBs currently starting in the NFL?

  104. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

And what if Jones ends up being the first pick that year? And we don’t have the first pick?

  105. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Cardinals Jones actually reminds me of 2010 Josh Freeman. Size, mobility, big arm.

  106. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Not sure Oregon will be able to bring Jones down in the backfield. 250 pound QB. Damn

  107. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Eric

You and Luther have your heads so far up Jameis arse you’ll never see it.

It’s not classy to at least acknowledge that the other player is talented. You don’t make Jameis look any better by the whining about Mariota.

  108. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    Cardale*

  109. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Man…Jones reminds me of a bigger stronger Jameis! Dude can make some plays! At the same time he throws some scary balls.

  110. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Chan can you list the current FSU QBs starting? Ridiculous statement.

  111. ChanEpic Says:

YES BUCKEYES TD!!!! Suck it DUCKS!!!

  112. rayjay1122 Says:

Predictions on how many comments this thread gets? I say over 1000.

  113. Soggy Says:

    gonna be a good game..

  114. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“And what if Jones ends up being the first pick that year? And we don’t have the first pick?”

    That’s the rub isn’t it! 🙂

  115. ChanEpic Says:

Skyline – touche. Name me any Oregon QBs even drafted. I can name more from FSU I guaran-damn-tee it.

  116. Eric Says:

He is a great scrambler and can throw a five yard pass. All I’ve seen so far.

    But it’s early.

  117. Mr. Patrick Says:

So far tonight Mariota looks like this year’s true college football superstar

  118. bucrightoff Says:

NC State had the most starters in the league for 5 weeks this year…

  119. MadMax Says:

@Luv, those are new names to me. I havent been on the ball as much this year as the last two years. Im also waiting until Jan 15, last day to declare. Thanks for pointing them out, Im noting them.

  120. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Dennis Dixon

  121. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Oh noes. Just tuned over to the Lightning and they’re getting crushed by the hated Flyers!!! Might as well watch the commercials in the football game.

  122. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Doesn’t matter if QBs have been drafted by either school. Nome of them were Mariota or Winston.

  123. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Eric

Were you out in the kitchen when he looked right…looked right…got flushed from the pocket and ran with the ball failing to read his progressions?

Oh no because he didn’t stop his progressions and found the open guy on the left. Imagine that!!

  124. ChanEpic Says:

Dennis Dixon because of injury he is starting, I’ll give you that.

  125. ChanEpic Says:

Skyline – it matters if the question is: “Why do people like me not want Mariota drafted by the Bucs”. Offensive scheme and QB success in THE league matters. Not as much as individual talent, e.g. Mariota, but it matters.

  126. Mr. Patrick Says:

I don’t know if Oregon will win tonight or not, but they sure are fun to watch

  127. Eric Says:

Yep there it is again. 2 yard pass. Followed by a one yard pass.

  128. iamkingsu Says:

5 yard outs all night. OSU will give them that all night. They are not FSU

  129. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

FSU recievers out there tonight. 😉

  130. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Eric

Did you see that? More than five yards on the run and another 3rd down drop.

That’s two HUGE drops or Mariota would be perfect.

  131. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Kellen Clemons, Joey Harrington, A.J. Feeley, Akili Smith, Tony Graziani, Bill Musgrave, Chris Miller, Dan Fouts, Bob Berry, George Shaw, Norm Van Brocklin

  132. ChanEpic Says:

Not converting on 3rd down obviously not Mariota’s fault.

  133. cmurda Says:

Wow. This Oregon team was this good and the receivers can’t catch? They like dropping 3rd down passes.

  134. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Iamking

Keep up the biased posting. You’re jinxing yourself. I guess you think that 3-12 drop was Mariota’s fault?

  135. rayjay1122 Says:

This is a really fun game to watch regardless of who wins. So much faster than a Bucs snore fest.

  136. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @iamkingsu

Jon Gruden ran nothing BUT 5 yard plays 80% of the time.

  137. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

cmurda ..they are missing 2 starting wideouts right?

  138. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @rayjay1122

Or an FSU snore fest 😉

  139. Soggy Says:

the pass was good the ducks have a tough team here and got to make those catches..not going to be able to slack with these guys

  140. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Cmurda

Oregon is down the guy who was expected to be their top guy. As well as the guy who got caught smoking weed and a star TE who went down with 4 games to play.

Unlike Jameis who had FSU”s all time leading receiver and the all time leading TE Mariota actually IS missing his top receivers.

This was Oregon’s biggest fear and it’s come to pass. Two third down passes in the hands dropped.

  141. bucrightoff Says:

Mariota going to Oregon matters slightly more than Winston going to FSU. Oregon is an offensive system unto itself, it’s been more or less the same for a decade now and many guys have looked good in it.

  142. Mr. Patrick Says:

With their #1 and #2 recievers out tonight, wonder if Oregon has anybody that can catch?

  143. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Let’s see FSU QBs:

EJ Manuel, Christian Ponder, Adrian McPherson, Chris Weinke, Danny Kanell, Casey Weldon, Brad Johnson, Peter Tom Willis, Danny McManus, Gary Huff, Bill Cappleman, Kim Hammond, Steve Tensi

  144. Lefty Says:

Let’s face it..many love Mariota, or want to love him. Many like to believe his athleticism will translate to the next level – and perhaps it will. But the reality is its just too damn difficult to tell watching him run this offense.

  145. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Now I see why Oregon’s defense get’s no respect. Can any of these guys tackle?

Well this will be a TRUE test for Marcus. Let’s see what he has. Perhaps he’ll panic and give up an easy six with a McCown like fumble while trying to make a play.

  146. ChanEpic Says:

It isn’t just Mariota, Jones and the Buckeyes are making Oregon look mighty soft.

  147. DB55 Says:

Oh o. First, can’t believe that’s the 3rd string qb. Second, 12 sec between plays is ridiculous and I like it. Third, is MM loses does his stock drop?

  148. iamkingsu Says:

@st pete the guy was backpedalling lol so that means it was under thrown Lol. He still should’ve caught it.

  149. DB55 Says:

    Skyline

Put up the gator QBs. This should be fun.

  150. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

“EJ Manuel, Christian Ponder, Adrian McPherson, Chris Weinke, Danny Kanell, Casey Weldon, Brad Johnson, Peter Tom Willis, Danny McManus, Gary Huff, Bill Cappleman, Kim Hammond, Steve Tensi”

All garbage outside of Bradley of course, but his career was mediocre. Got us a ring though.

  151. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Poor Oregon. They lose their star tight end and now his backup comes up limping?

  152. iamkingsu Says:

Y’all saw the replay where he had to wait on the damn ball right? Like I said underthrown

  153. Eric Says:

Pick it up Marcus. I’ve seen nothing but five yard passes and an under thrown wounded duck to the wide open guy.

  154. ChanEpic Says:

Skyline – it looks pretty close. Neither team is really great at producing NFL caliber QBs but since the Chip Kelly era there have been precious few from Oregon. It isnt like I am typing something that hasn’t been said a million times.

That said, I am willing to admit that Oregon’s defense and the WRs aren’t doing Mariota any favors tonight. He can do a hell of a lot to shut people like me up by putting this team on his back and gutting out a win.

  155. Luther Says:

@StPeteBucsFan I know what a good QB looks like. I’m not saying Mariota is not a good college player. You have to be blind to not see that Mariota is not being challenged in the same way that Winston was by reading the defense more than he does. The offense is so quick, reads are simepl

  156. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Lefty…I agree. He’s either the product of this offense, he sucks, or he’s really good. You can’t really tell if he is any good or if it will translate to the NFL all that well, hiding behind this gimmicky offense.

  157. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Florida QBs:

Tim Tebow, Rex Grossman, Jesse Palmer, Danny Wuerffel, Kerwin Bell, John Reaves, Steve Spurrier

  158. Dougy balls Says:

  159. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @cmurda

I hear you. Just wish we would mix up some of our personnel sub & base packages. For example a run stuffer on short yardage & goal line.

    Pat Williams
    Marcus Stroud
    Tony McDaniel

    +More Hybrid Fronts (5-2/4-4).

  160. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Luther …you’re making too much sense.

  161. Mr. Patrick Says:

Mariota getting zero help from his guys

  162. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Wow Buckeye fans whining for a late hit on a guy tightrope walking the sideline.

Brings back the horrible memory of Levonte getting nailed for the penalty that cost the Bucs the Jets game. If they had won that game who knows what might have happened to Schiano and JFRO. Probably would have just delayed the inevitable.

  163. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Luther

@StPeteBucsFan I know what a good QB looks like.

That’s great then. Are you actually an expert or do you play one on a sports blog? I’ll bow to your expertise.

  164. Eric Says:

As I lifelong Nole I have to admit we never have had a qb that made it big in the pros.

  165. ChanEpic Says:

Jones looks like a faster Vince Young out there.

  166. Mr. Patrick Says:

With Ohio St. having all 3 of those QB’s on their roster, somebody was doing some real good recruiting

  167. iamkingsu Says:

    @bonzai
Didn’t see this one bout gruden. What happened when coughlin came down here in the playoffs and set his DBs at the first down sticks? How did garden respond? Don’t worry I’ll wait lmao

  168. Soggy Says:

Tebow is on the sideline lol

Man ohio is going to hard to beat..

  169. ChanEpic Says:

That’s a freshman play there by Jones.

  170. Eric Says:

Get the fumble, followed by the one yard throw…..

  171. StPeteBucsFan Says:

OK we’ve felt Oregon’s pain with their receiver problems.

Gotta give major props to Urban to get this far with their QB situation.
That was the first bonehead play I’ve seen from the kid.

  172. cmurda Says:

Fair points. I know they are missing their top wideouts but jeez. Those were 2 easy catches.

  173. iamkingsu Says:

    *gruden

  174. MadMax Says:

Oregon and Mariota missing star receivers, and Oh St. missing star QB and using a 3rd stringer…..and 1st playoff game in college history…..Im LOVING IT!

  175. Soggy Says:

    nice adjustment MM, NFL throw

  176. Eric Says:

Ok couple of nice throws there.

  177. DB55 Says:

    Good game!

  178. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Wow, those were the adjustments Mariota “doesn’t” make.

  179. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Eric

It was YOUR QB that won our Super Bowl!

  180. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Okay everyone STOP watching the game…

Then go over Mariota’s stats afterward…and just go by his stats on whether he played well or not in this game.

That’s what 95% of you do when you cite Winston’s 17 INT’s. So just look at the stat line afterwards, don’t bother watching the game. Why bother?

  181. DB55 Says:

    Concussion?

  182. Dave Pear Says:

Everybody can hate on Urban “Liar” Meyer all they want, but he COULD recruit.
Maybe not all model citizens, but outstanding athletes.

  183. Eric Says:

    Would call them NFL throws.

  184. StPeteBucsFan Says:

OK. Two thoughts. Mariota is obviously not some frail toothpick. That’s good.

He’s lowering his shoulders that’s bad in the NFL. One can hopefully assume he’ll morph into Russell Wilson and learn to get down and not Cam Newtonl and try to run over the tacklers.

  185. cmurda Says:

Ouch. That wasn’t the prettiest 4th down call.

  186. Luther Says:

@Eric Brad Johnson says hi 🙂

  187. Eric Says:

Whoops I’m sitting here and I totally forgot Brad Johnson. I’m a total dumb ass……..

  188. iamkingsu Says:

I wouldn’t call any of the wide receivers that’s out ‘stars’. Y’all reaching now

  189. ChanEpic Says:

Dave – model citizens? It’s amazing that he had Tebow and Gonzales on the same team at the same time. Can’t wait to read the Urban Meyer biography.

  190. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Dave Pear

Agree 100% Urban can recruit and he can coach offenses!!!

You know my top three recruiters in the land…Saban..Urban and Jimbo.

Who else recruits as well as those three? I’m sure I’m leaving someone out.

  191. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

iamkingsu…their best WR is out though right. I mean maybe not a star, but he is their best one.

  192. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Mariota usually slides, but looks like his receivers aren’t catching the ball so he trying to do a little to much in the running game.

  193. DB55 Says:

    OS could beat the bucs.

  194. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Their best receiver is out. I would call that their star receiver. He is also a true freshman at that. These other receivers are getting hit in the chest and not catching it.

  195. Mr. Patrick Says:

Lovie and Licht are getting to see some very good young O-Linemen tonight

  196. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

StPeteBucsFan…Bowden always recruited quite well too.

Yes I know you meant current coaches.

  197. cmurda Says:

    @DB55,

    and then again….maybe not

  198. Soggy Says:

This is some game ducks got it back, better get it done, OS came to play..

  199. MadMax Says:

    I said “their” stars kingsu….smh

  200. ChanEpic Says:

87ForJameis – Jimbo Fisher is no slouch recruiting either. Not Bowden status yet, but he’s had pretty good teams and tons of NFL prospects coming out of FSU.

  201. StPeteBucsFan Says:

87 Yeah in his day Bobby may have been at the top of the pack for awhile.

He had to be with the athletes the Miami factory was getting during his time as Noles coach.

  202. Eric Says:

I’m no scout but I feel like in the pros you have to thread the needle down the field.

Scrambling around and the one yard dump off doesn’t cut it…..

Need to see more. Wayyyyy more.

  203. rayjay1122 Says:

I would love to see Mariota gut out a win tonight without a few players and some sloppy defense….that is what he would have to do here in Tampa. Plus I can’t stand Urban’s lying smug ass. Man this spam filter is a pain.

  204. Architek Says:

If OSU keeps turning over the ball – this game is gonna turn because Ducks will figure out OSU defensive sets and start to press them.

I like what Mariota did checking out of that play.

  205. Dave Pear Says:

The Pouncey twins, Percy Harvin, Chris Rainey, Aaron Hernadez,Cam Newton…
    Shady characters all.
But, damn they could play football.

  206. Soggy Says:

    don’t like those calls

  207. Dougy balls Says:

Joe know attack towards you But your website gives bugs. Always respect you guys on here and listen every week live with the big dog. 208. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Chan Epic

    “Not Bowden status yet,”

I’ve read reports that Jimbo’s class this year will be one for the ages. Five 5star recruits already committed. And word is that Jimbo’s unwavering defense of Jameis has really made him a hero with the young AA athletes.

  209. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

OSU is just as fast as Oregon. Looked like Bucs offense. Run run pass punt.

  210. rayjay1122 Says:

Pablo does not like how this game is going so far.

  211. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

rayjay1122…I’m not even a Gator fan(hate them very much) and I despise Urban for what he did.

Some say hate is a strong word. Not when it comes to the Gators.

  212. ChanEpic Says:

Dave – HERNANDEZ, my bad buddy. I said Gonzales… So sorry and thanks.

  213. zack49 Says:

well the way i see it is are bucs defence sucks are offense sucks and the coach is fair we need everything and….. Mariota go ducks and bucs

  214. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Chan I was scratching my head like crazy over Gonzales for about 5 minutes.

    I almost googled it.

  215. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Skyline

That is the secret of Urban’s success at OSU. He left the SEC where he saw the light. He brought SEC speed and athleticism to the Big Ten or whatever the hell they call themselves these days.

That’s what kind of hacks me about Urban. I concede his clear talent, recruiting, coaching but I feel like he bailed from Florida because the SEC competition was just too much year in and year out for numerous title runs.

He made a good call eh? He has one problem The rest of his conference will catch up. And one name for Urban…JIM HARBAUGH.

In fairness Urban is from Ohio and so I gotta give him that out

  216. bucrightoff Says:

Draft Leonard Williams, tank again next year, fire Lovie, get Cardale.

  217. Eric Says:

This guy from Ohio State throws a better ball down the field than Marcus does.

    So far anyway.

  218. ChanEpic Says:

StPete – So I hear. The only spot I am still iffy about is Jimbo’s QB post Jameis. I don’t know how he’s done in that department. Ironically I hear Braxton Miller is considering a transfer to FSU. That would be a recruiting feat for sure.

  219. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Where the hell does Urban get all these QB’s? Why the hell couldn’t Will Muschamp find even ONE?

  220. Soggy Says:

    Ohio QB kicking butt

  221. Luther Says:

@bucrightoff Are you kidding. Cardale is nowhere close to a 1st round QB.

@Eric, I said the same thing.

  222. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Chan,

I hadn’t heard that about Braxton Miller, but if he was thinking about it tonight’s performance by Jones may seal the deal for Jimbo.

  223. DallasBuc Says:

Winston will instantly make those horrible new Bucs unis look so much better!

  224. MadMax Says:

Oh St. is surprising me. 2 turnovers and they’re still winning. Not what I expected. Glad I dont have a dog in this fight.

  225. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

3 QB sneaks. Guy is hard to bring down.

  226. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I thought he was the 3rd string QB..lol

  227. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Am I watching the Oregon Fsu game again. Haha

  228. ChanEpic Says:

StPete – Your mouth to God’s ears.

  229. DB55 Says:

So MM got no weapons, is that what’s happening? What happened to the “super”?

  230. bucrightoff Says:

Cardale looks better than Mariota right now and he’s started 3 whole games. He’s picked apart all 3 teams he’s played. Looks mighty good right now.

  231. Dave Pear Says:

From what I read in this last weeks Sports Illustrated, that freshman QB from OSU can throw the ball 65 yards from his knees.

  232. Soggy Says:

Good test for MM see how he handles this

  233. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Chan,

Based on the talent in Tallahassee I thought Jameis might return. Miller would have a ready made juggernaut.

  234. rayjay1122 Says:

OK. Oregon better get its act together or this is going to get ugly. The score does not seem to be indicative of Mariota’s play though IMO. Bad defense and missing a few opportunities on offense. It will be telling to see how Mariota keeps his composure during adversity.

  235. Mr. Patrick Says:

Mariota now trying to do roo much because not getting much help from his playmakers

  236. MadMax Says:

Mariota just looks defeated….the look in his eyes while ago…..

  237. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Let’s see…Luthur and Eric probably saw a HUGE window on that third down completion.

  238. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Okay I’m out, gotta lay down. Still not 100%. Actually around 30% right now.
The medical field is going way down hill….hmmm I wonder why.

  239. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Man OSU front is gas and big. Just blowing up that oline.

  240. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Hard to make a solid judgement with those two critical third down drops but one thing seems clear in the first half.

Helfrich and Frost are getting outcoached!

  241. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Remember don’t bother with the game. Just look at the stat line and decide whether or not Mariota had good game or not. That’s how it works around these parts.

    G’night.

  242. bucrightoff Says:

    That was an ugly miss.

  243. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    TE stopped on the route.

  244. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Well that decides it all. He missed a wide open receiver and so we an write off Mariota right? LOL

  245. rayjay1122 Says:

OK. That was a bad throw by Mariota. Needed the TD there.

  246. Luther Says:

@StPeteBucsFan That was a great throw. Problem is, we are not seeing enough of them. What do think about the throw near the goal?

  247. R.O. Says:

If you can’t see the difference in the set-up, reads and throws Mariotta is asked to do then your blind.

  248. DallasBuc Says:

87- what’s up with you? The malware on this site has been prohibitive last few days. Looks like it has cleared a little. Hospital trip?

  249. Dave Pear Says:

    See ya’ 87.
    Hope you start feeling better.

  250. Luther Says:

Man do I hate the overhead camera. Who the hell came up with that crap?

  251. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

OSU is like a bigger faster Oregon team. Hahaha. Both these teams are going to be tired. Trench war is fun to watch.

  252. ChanEpic Says:

Let’s be real. Can any of you really see Mariota going up against, I don’t know Nick Fairley and Donkey Kong Su and that working out well for Mariota? I KNOW I don’t.

  253. DB55 Says:

Out coached thus far, for sure. A 3rd string qb is not supposed to play like that. To me it feels like MM is out there playing w the bucs. I think that’s what it might look like. Out matched. faster, stronger etc #clippedhiswings

  254. Simpleasthat Says:

Wow I’m a FSU fan and I say it’s almost a coin toss between Jw & Mariota.

  255. Bucs Insider Says:

So far only 1 inaccurate throw by Mariota, but Ohio st has this gimmicky Oregon offense figured out.

  256. DB55 Says:

Yup. Punch them in the face! Works every time.

  257. StPeteBucsFan Says:

TWO critical third down drops that Mariota hit in the numbers and hands.

That does make a difference in a big game.

  258. Luther Says:

@ChanEpic I’m not sure how he would do against Donkey Kong but I know he would be in trouble against the Legion of Doom. Even Glennon was very respectable against Seattle.

  259. DB55 Says:

I want to see the Lightning in the bottle. Where’s that guy?

  260. MadMax Says:

Well, so far Im still alright trading down and going with neither QB….or drafting Leonard Williams with our first.

    Thats just me though 🙂

  261. StPeteBucsFan Says:

This will still give us a comparison with Jameis. The pressure if building on the Ducks. Let’s see if the implode like FSU. That implosion btw was not ALL Jameis fault. His receivers did play bad just like Mariota’s tonight. And Jimbo was definitely outcoached.

  262. []_[]Buc Says:

You could stick literally ANYBODY behind that line and watch em complete 80% of their passes.

C Jones had ALL DAY to hit his receivers lol

  263. Eric Says:

Actually this is more comparable to FSU vs. auburn last year.

Let’s see if Marcus can come back and win a national title.

So far in seeing second round talent, if that.

  264. ChanEpic Says:

Luther – Right. Glennon did play very well against Seattle. I guess anything is possible, any given Sunday.

  265. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Buc says

Let’s give credit where credit is due. Cardale looks like a poor mans Jameis tonight. He’s making good decisions and he’s a beast..250LBS.

But he does frighten much the same as Jameis. Sometimes when guys are big and strong and have a cannon they force the ball.

Cardale had a good first half.

  266. ChanEpic Says:

StPete – Jones reminds me of Vince Young more than Jameis. He runs pretty darn effectively.

  267. JSmalls Says:

Mariota’s throws are floating, no zip.

  268. Bucnut2 Says:

I’ve said this all along. Neither of these QBs warrant #1 overall. Winston because of his character, Mariota because of his skills. TRADE down! let some else draft these stiffs at #1!

  269. LJ'sDaddy Says:

I agree eric. Mariota is mediocre. He will be an NFL bust.

  270. Jeagan1999 Says:

GO BUCKEYES! Defense and a strong ground game are winning Ohio State a national championship! Of course it’s still easy to see the talent in Matiota. He’s made some really nice throws…a couple of poor ones too….but the kid is smart, fast and talented! If the Bucs decide to go QB with the first pick, MM is the one!

  271. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Agree Chan. Cardale is much more Vince Young like. He’s a beast to bring down. Maybe Young is the last QB I’ve seen that hard to drop.

Mariota does it with speed and elusiveness, Jameis seems to me to combine the two styles..not as powerful as Young or Newton not as fast as Mariota but still fast and very strong.

  272. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Jeagan

My son lives in Columbus. While he went to Miami Oxford Ohio his wife, all of his inlaws are Buckeye grads.

In Columbus the Buckeyes are their professional team. They all LOVE their buckeyes.

  273. BucFan20 Says:

Give a QB receivers wiith a good case of the V-drops and that’s what you get. Will happen to Winston or anyone. When you lose your weapons your screwed if your backups don’t perform when needed.

  274. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

Running quarterbacks don’t work out in the NFL and no, mariota is not like wilson or rodgers. If mariota doesn’t channel his inner Jameis Winston and start throwing accurately from the pocket then this game is already over. And once this game is over anyone who writes that mariota is better than Winston or that they prefer mariota over Winston in Tampa Bay is nuts. Those who feel that way would have just shown everyone that they are haters and nothing more

  275. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

    Lots of time…

  276. Oahubuc Says:

Urban Meyer is just toying with Oregon like a cat with a mouse. It’s time to go for the kill. Shame because we could have gotten a lot of value out of that #1 slot.

  277. Soggy Says:

I can see L&L passing on both MM and Winston in this draft at least with the first pick..

  278. iamkingsu Says:

Like I said at the top. It’s urban’s offense that Oregon is running lol. Ohio St by 11

  279. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @newbucs

And once this game is over anyone who writes that mariota is better than Winston or that they prefer mariota over Winston in Tampa Bay is nuts. Those who feel that way would have just shown everyone that they are haters and nothing more

Are you familiar with the psychological term “projection”?

You call people who have different opinions than you nuts and yet THEY’RE the haters?

I totally disagree with you but I do not think you’re nuts. You’re entitled to your opinion and if you disagree with me I don’t think it’s because your a hater. Although after that last post one wonders who the hater really is?

  280. Oahubuc Says:

@Soggy, I’m feeling more like a trade-down every week. Trouble is, these QB’s keep screwing us. One on the field and one off.

  281. Bill Says:

At halftime I’ve seen MM make 2 or 3 quality NFL throws, 2 or 3 bad ones, then a dozen of system plays involving really easy passes. My opinion of him hasn’t changed.

  282. Jeagan1999 Says:

StPeteBucsFan….I grew up in a small town outside Toledo and Buckeye football is an obsession to a lot of us from Ohio! I can remember going to games down in Columbus when I was a kid…it’s where my love affair with football started. I love me some Bucaneers too, but there’s just something about college football that is so exciting and fun! OHIO!!!!!!!

  283. R.O. Says:

Wouldn’t draft JM for his character? What’s wrong with his character? Do you know him? Did Warren Sapp have good character? Stop it already with that bull$hit.

  284. Draft King Says:

i think the Bucs next QB could indeed be on the field…….playing for OSU. Jones is a 3rd year Sophomore just like Winston. Technically he could come out early……checkout his Wikipedia page and his tweet history, not a fan of returning to school. Stranger things have happened, if he wins three in a row (Big Ten, Sugar and National Title) he could come out and get 2nd-3rd round consideration. Something to think about!

  285. RealityCheck Says:

@Newbucsfan!! – Dude what are you talking about with that weird rant?

  286. iamkingsu Says:

    @soggy
Not you. I know you’re not off the Mariota bandwagon lol

  287. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

So Newbucsfan, by that logic no one should want Winston because they lost, right?

  288. []_[]Buc Says:

It’s impossible to deny the time Jones is getting.

There’s a reason he was a third stringer until injury.

That line is elite and will make any QB you put back there look good.

  289. Oahubuc Says:

    @Draft King, I like where you’re headed.

  290. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @DraftKing

I hear you loud and clear. If Jones is available I’d definitely spend a 2nd round pick on him based on what I’ve seen in only two games..actually a game and a half..Bama and tonight.

Don’t know about his background though. Does HE have any character issues.

  291. Eric Says:

    @bill

    Spot on.

  292. Oahubuc Says:

All the more reason we need to build our lines, if necessary, at the expense of the flavor of the month QB.

  293. iamkingsu Says:

What happened to all the “Mariota skills will translate” “he such a high character guy” and my favorite “the next Rogers” lololol. If I were Rogers I would sue for deformation of comparison

  294. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Guys…talk about premature…there’s still an entire half of football!

  295. Oahubuc Says:

The next Rogers thing is hilarious.

  296. Dave Pear Says:

    @St.Pete,
I’m sure he has character issues.
    He’s on Urban Meyer’s team, isn’t he?

  297. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Could we simply draft OSU’s offensive line?

  298. Mr. Patrick Says:

Oregon being outcoached. Ohio State’s Defense looks like they know what Oregon is going to do before they do it. Players have been prepped very well

  299. the real Buck Bruce Says:

Marcus Mariota will beat the Buckeyes and then become a Buccaneer.tampaaaaaaaa

  300. Soggy Says:

    @Oahubuc,
    @iamkingsu

    I so confused..lol

  301. Jeagan1999 Says:

Oahubuc….can’t say I disagree with you. If there is no concensus on QB, the BUCS might be better off trading down and collecting more picks. Then we can rebuild that Oline and add a quality pass rusher. I’d still go Mariota over Winston, but I would not be too upset if they traded down…for the right price.

  302. Simpleasthat Says:

Ohio looks by far the more physical team so much for the odds makers.

  303. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Warren Sapp smoked a little weed and rumors of coke dropped his draft status dramatically.

You guys don’t even realize you are arguing against yourselves. Sapp dropped like a rock in the draft and he wasn’t drafted to be the “face of the franchise”!!!

I don’t know anybody who like Sapp. Most of us cheered his sacks while loathing his arrogant jerk loud mouth. Again he had Derrick Brooks to be the face of that defense supplemented by Ronde, Lynch and other good dudes.

  304. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Jones…Good Lawd son

  305. Eric Says:

    Well nobody throws like Rodgers…

  306. bucrightoff Says:

Jones looks like the guy who should be going #1. Those throws are amazing and he’s a tank to bring down.

  307. ufcguy Says:

I love how all you idiots make a big deal about drops for oregon. Fsu dropped at least one touchdown before the half and the interceptions as well. Or we can talk about the other 2 cook fumbles but ya you idiot haters made the whole game like Winston played horrible. He played as well if not better than Mariota. The more you talk the stupider you look. This kid is way way overrated . Mariota is going to get killed in the nfl.

  308. cmurda Says:

This game has slowed down and has become quite boring. That’s a credit to OSU and Urban Meyer.

  309. Simpleasthat Says:

    Oregon is gonna lose

  310. the real Buck Bruce Says:

here we go this is the beginning of Marcus Mariota legend when he makes a great comeback to win the national championship and then become a Buccaneer.

  311. Mr. Patrick Says:

So far this game shows how important it is to have a dominant O-Line

  312. cmurda Says:

    Donnie baseball with the pick.

  313. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I thought Urban had a bad ticker. Any more theatrics like that on the sideline and he’s liable to have the big one.

I get his frustration though. If it wasn’t for the turnovers OSU will be killing the Ducks. OTOH if the Ducs hadn’t dropped two easy 3rd down passes in the first half it would have been different as well.

It seems to me that some guys are wilting under the spotlight. I don’t think either of the QB’s are choking. At least yet. But receivers tonight…yeowww.

  314. Simpleasthat Says:

If Oregon could convert the turnovers they would have a chance, but they seem mot able to capitalize.

  315. Dave Pear Says:

    ufcguy,
    Stupider?
    Case dismissed.

  316. the real Buck Bruce Says:

you guys give up too early watch the greatest comeback ever by Marcus Mariota.I guarantee it haters.tampaaaaaa

  317. cmurda Says:

Mariota is 18 out of 23 with at least 3 drops for a TD, no picks and 193 yards so far. I don’t see anyway that you can even find an iota of hate for him in this game. Dude has done everything and now has a chance to firmly get Oregon back in the game.

  318. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Geez Eric was that thrown more than five yards?

  319. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

Lol, I was thinking the same thing.

  320. cmurda Says:

And…. he just did that in one play on a perfectly thrown ball.

  321. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

There’s a deep throw pocket pass for ya.

  322. MadMax Says:

Now thats what I want to see with a #1 QB prospect!

  323. Simpleasthat Says:

I spoke too soon haha I hate Ohio state but more the big 10

  324. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I thought Mariota could mot go long????

  325. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I hope that kid learned his lesson.

  326. cmurda Says:

Wow. How many times do these kids insist on dropping the ball. How about making sure you get 5 steps in the endzone. That was close.

  327. Mr. Patrick Says:

I beleive that was an NFL throw by Mariota

  328. iamkingsu Says:

Ohio state about to run it right down they throat and kill all the momentum. Urban is sick of the TO’s. Elliot is about to take it home

  329. bucrightoff Says:

What a moron but he gets away with it. Good job standing in the pocket by Mariota.

  330. R.O. Says:

Really? Blown coverage is not an NFL throw..

  331. Simpleasthat Says:

    Finally converted a turn over

  332. the real Buck Bruce Says:

I told all of y’all you should listen to me and read my comments more you fuqing idiots.

  333. Eric Says:

    Gorgeous throw no doubt….

  334. Bill Says:

That was a nice looking throw

  335. cmurda Says:

That was 40 yards in the air on the money whether the receiver was covered or not. I don’t want to hear it.

  336. R.O. Says:

When the say NFL throws. They mean anticipation and tight windows. That was neither.

  337. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

OMG, RO…you must hate being wrong.

  338. the real Buck Bruce Says:

the Buccaneers future quarterback will get the ball back and score another touchdown.after this three and out

  339. Soggy Says:

    Are the ducks waking up?

  340. Mr. Patrick Says:

Bucs should draft entire OSU O-Line

  341. StPeteBucsFan Says:

That’s right RO. Any QB can hit a guy in stride for a 70 yard TD pass.

Why don’t you point out how much ground the receiver covered versus the actual throw. Why I bet the toss was only for 30 or so right and that receiver made him LOOK good by racing 40.

  342. Simpleasthat Says:

Ducks have to stop the run JC

  343. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

It’s really weird but that has sort of become common in college football, go a player to drop the ball before crossing the goal line. I remember in the 2011 SEC Championship Tyrann Mathieu returned a punt for a TD, but tossed the ball to the ref before breaking the plane.

  344. the real Buck Bruce Says:

just like I said again three and out now give the Buccaneers future quarterback the ball back and he will score another touchdown

  345. StPeteBucsFan Says:

A no brainer. He has to go for it.

  346. chipbuc Says:

    RO…. is just a hater!!!!!!

  347. the real Buck Bruce Says:

I am the football fortune teller

  348. the real Buck Bruce Says:

    TAMPAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  349. R.O. Says:

To is a realist.. I know criticism is so hard for children to understand.

  350. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’m worried for Urban’s ticker now for sure!

  351. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Geez how many turnovers is that now?

  352. Bill Says:

LOL, what’s with QB’s throwing the ball backwards against these guys?

  353. cmurda Says:

Wow. Crap just got real. Urban is going to have a heart attack.

  354. Mr. Patrick Says:

Jones doing his Jameis impression, lol

  355. DB55 Says:

Lol now that’s what a 3rd string qb looks like.

  356. BB Says:

Well it’s time to draft mariota joe the fans want him he is the real deal and needs to be our QB. Folks I called the Bucs GM today and left him message about picking Mariota and he is our QB and to do the right thing. Yes I really did reach Jason’s phone. Will stand in front of one Buc with sign daily for mariota if needed.

  357. the real Buck Bruce Says:

are you all ready for another Marcus Mariota touchdown you f****** haters

  358. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Wow..bad turnover.

  359. MadMax Says:

WOW! Oregon is having this handed to them. (Announcer just called him Jameis Winston, LOL)

  360. Dave Pear Says:

    Wow!
    Bye Bye Urban.
I’m sure your heart is gonna blow now!

  361. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Jones sucks

  362. Mord Says:

oof … right in the mommy-daddy buttons.

  363. Luther Says:

For the record, I’m rooting for Oregon but I want the Bucs to draft Winston.

  364. StPeteBucsFan Says:

OSU fans. Is Bosa a senior. I’d like him in a Bucs uni.

  365. Soggy Says:

ducks running game I dont know?

  366. the real Buck Bruce Says:

here we go touch down Marcus Mariota

  367. bucrightoff Says:

Ohio State should be up 35-10 but they are playing Santa Claus with the gifts.

  368. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Nice throw by Mariota…better play by defense

  369. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

How about that throw? Was that a tight enough window for ya? Too bad the guy didn’t get his foot down.

  370. the real Buck Bruce Says:

that’s okay he’ll get one next time

  371. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Good now the Trade Up for Mariota, still has some type of value.

  372. R.O. Says:

    Incomplete…

  373. Mr. Patrick Says:

Wonder if Jameis will dress and try to sneak on the field and play the 4th quarter like against Clemson?

  374. Dave Pear Says:

    Hey Buck Bruce,
Could you give me the 6 numbers for Wednesdays Lotto?
    Just kidding.
You don’t seem to have that fortune telling gift.

  375. the real Buck Bruce Says:

after the Buccaneers future quarterback wins the game all you haters have to come to my house and eat what i just left in the toilet

  376. Eric Says:

Oregon gets a lot of interesting turnovers.

  377. Mr. Patrick Says:

Oh wait, maybe that was really him!

  378. Bill Says:

    That was pre-game Patrick

  379. Bill Says:

Bruce, didn’t you just predict a TD? LOL, chill out pal

  380. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Eric

You obviously have never been a journalist. Thanks for the balance. No mention whatsoever about two good throws to pick up 1st down, one of them on 3rd and 12. No mention Eric?

  381. Dave Pear Says:

    Buck Bruce,
Does your Mommy have to look at your poopy before you flush it?

  382. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Oh that’s right Eric they were dropped!

  383. the real Buck Bruce Says:

here’s what will happen on this series and next series Ohio State will score 3 or less points and Marcus will impressive lead lead the Ducks for a touchdown

  384. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Despite that mistake I’d still take Jones in the 2nd round and roll the dice on a project.

IMHO Jones in the second is actually a better “gamble” than either of the Heiman’s with the first pick.

Mariota hasn’t done anything to upset me however if the Bucs’ braintrust does due diligence and decides he’s the pick.

  385. Mr. Patrick Says:

OSU just dominating the line of scrimage. Bucs take notice

  386. StPeteBucsFan Says:

So much for the vaunted interior defensive line of the Ducks. OSU is running through them like a hot knife through butter.

  387. Eric Says:

You didn’t see my gorgeous throw comment?

  388. Dave Pear Says:

    Buck Bruce,
    3 or less?
So a field goal or a safety or an extra point?

  389. the real Buck Bruce Says:

dave pair, come on it was funny don’t get personal

  390. iamkingsu Says:

Just keep pounding 15 it’s not that difficult

  391. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    LMAO

No sooner do I btch about the Ducks interior DL and they bow up!!!

  392. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @Bill
I know, just having a little fun

  393. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Why are these morons trying to stop a 250 lb freightrain by hitting high?

  394. MadMax Says:

Lol, this QB Jones is something else….

  395. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Man why couldn’t Freeman run like that with his size?

  396. StPeteBucsFan Says:

No matter what I think we can agree this is an exciting game despite the drops and turnovers.

It could be one of those deals where the team with the ball last will win.

  397. Simpleasthat Says:

    Osu has it

  398. kaput Says:

Mariota looks pretty good, but not like an NFL franchise quarterback.

NFL teams don’t run this offense.

  399. Eric Says:

    Running game helps.

  400. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I do not like the look on Urban’s face. I’m being serious. If the dude wins tonight he should retire for real. The stress on his face is just screaming heart problems.

  401. the real Buck Bruce Says:

damn I’m an idiot I was wrong again but there’s one thing I will be right about the Buccaneers future quarterback will win this game

  402. Mr. Patrick Says:

    OSU physical dominance

  403. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Kaput
“NFL teams don’t run this offense.”

I think we’ve read that before…along with Jameis off field issues..over and over again. How about Mariota can’t play from under center. Mariota is a system only QB. No Duck QB’s have ever made it in the NFL. And Mariota did get a speeding tickt

  404. Bill Says:

Well MM has looked better in the 3rd than he did in the 1st half. Enjoy the 4th folks!

  405. cmurda Says:

    @kaput,

So how in any way would that diminish Mariota’s value? It isn’t a typical Pro Offense at Oregon but it doesn’t mean Mariota can’t handle any offense. You can’t always teach a QB to go through progressions and make the right read. Mariota consistently makes the right decisions.

  406. Jeagan1999 Says:

Forget drafting a QB…get OSU’s line and RB Elliott and the Buccaneers will be looking good!

  407. the real Buck Bruce Says:

how can you guys not love this kid the way you stepped up on the pocket and just fire strikes right into their chest whether their wide open or not

  408. bucrightoff Says:

    Game clinching drive coming up.

  409. Eric Says:

Any balance for that lousy over throw?

  410. cmurda Says:

Game clinching drive could happen if Oregon doesn’t step up and stop the run. OSU’s O Lineman are engulfing the Oregon D Line. I mean, I literally don’t even see them after the snap.

  411. Brad Says:

If we draft this guy over Winston I won’t be a fan anymore. He’s far from a NFL QB.

  412. Matt Says:

Mariota making solid reads all night, his only poor throws are late in drives when he’s fatigued. That throw on 2nd down was way underthrown, Stanford had man beat..Anyhow Mariota Still doesn’t translate to nfl imho.

Jones looks like a great NFL prospect aside from the fumble. He’s a load to bring down and looks like he could run a 4.6-4.7 at combine. He is soaring up draft boards. Out of nowhere… amazing

    Elliot is a tough sob

  413. Mr. Patrick Says:

    Oregon D looking tired

  414. Brad Says:

    Can we draft Urban Meyer?

  415. BB Says:

Mariota must must must be the choice I did my part left Jason light a message also FYI mariota doesn’t play defense but for Oregon couldn’t be worse if he did

  416. MadMax Says:

Jones is def getting MVP! Can we draft him this year?

  417. iamkingsu Says:

Jones is clearly the best qb on the field tonight

  418. Old*Skool*BucFan Says:

Wow, I have YET to see MM drop back and make a regular pass without doing his little playaction fake handoff. I know this is the system, but I just don’t see something SPECIAL enough to make him #1. I hope he proves me wrong because I want My Bucs to finally have a franchise Qb. I see a 3rd string qb making throws on the run and in tight windows. MM has so many incompletes on simple throws its worrisome. Imagine if we get MM, then the Titans get Winston, and ‘ol Jameis ends of being the real deal. The pressure is on!!

  419. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Brad

If we draft this guy over Winston I won’t be a fan anymore. He’s far from a NFL QB.

And so Brad if the PROFESSIONALS hired to make such decisions disagree and draft him and the Bucs turn into winners are you going to start rooting for Atlanta, Carolina, or New Orleans in the hopes of stopping him?

Mariota does not play defense. He’s not missing all these tackles and he didn’t drop two perfect first down passes in the first half.

I swear many of you Jameis supporters really get PMSy don’t ya. No need to let your emotions get the best of you.

  420. Dave Pear Says:

    Dang it!
Urban is getting another Crystal Football.

  421. bucrightoff Says:

Oregon has 4 turnovers. The offense has failed to do much with them. 4 turnovers needs to be at least 20 points for Oregon.

  422. Luther Says:

Well…I don’t see anymore reason to comment about Mariota in this thread, this game has said everything I could not say. Those that still believe Mariota is worthy of the first pick cannot be swayed even if the Tebow himself told them Mariota would not make it.

  423. Mr. Patrick Says:

I’m still standing by my original stance that the Bucs will not draft either one of these QB’s and I’ll stick to it until draft day

  424. cmurda Says:

Jones? No way. You can go ahead and hand the MVP to Elliott. Still a lot of time left.

It’s put up or shut up time for Mariota. We will see how he responds.

  425. iamkingsu Says:

Somebody on nfl.com called mariota the next A Rogers so it must be true lol

  426. Eric Says:

Ok Mariota Winston won a championship coming from behind. Time to shine.

  427. DB55 Says:

87 would be eating this chit up

  428. Bill Says:

Elliot is without a doubt the MVP if OSU goes on to win.

The talk about Oregon is always system….look at the time of possession. Reminds me of what Chip Kelley found out his first year with the Eagles.

  429. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Time for the Oregon OL to head for Bosa’s knees.

  430. DB55 Says:

    9 rushes 32 yards. Hmmm

  431. MadMax Says:

Mvp for Elliot is fine too….

  432. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Oregon is now doing their FSU impersonation. The game is over!!!

  433. Matt Says:

Osu may have a record amount of 1st round picks in one year in 2016. Their Sophomore class may go down as the best class in the history of college football. Bosa is a top 10 pick THIS YEAR if he’s eligible.

It’s sickening watching this as a Gator fan. What could have been….

  434. Mr. Patrick Says:

Bucs should draft Bosa. They need some players with some fire

  435. cmurda Says:

What? You have to go for it now.

  436. Mr. Patrick Says:

Judging by a common opponent, OSU must just be a whole lot better than FSU

  437. iamkingsu Says:

    Welcome to the bucs Jameis!

  438. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Agree about seeing Bosa in a Bucs uni. I didn’t know he was only a sophomore.

What is going to happen after this year is that the Big10 will once again become relevant.

Jim Harbaugh going to his alma mater will give Urban all he wants in a couple of years. Michigan-Ohio State games will once again be must see TV.

  439. Posey99 Says:

Joe, your website is borderline horrible when it comes to pop up crap. Seriously man, something needs to be done. It’s been a week or so of crap.

  440. BucinSC Says:

Great throw on the deep in ur on territory 3rd down
by MM but draft JW5 BUCS and let’s win now .

  441. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’ve just lost respect for Helfrich. He hasn’t stopped OSU this half. They’ve run it down his throat and he punts the ball away. He has just eliminated any chance for the Ducks. What the hell makes him think he can stop OSU”s running game at this point. They’ll take down the clock and run it out.

  442. celly Says:

    Luther Says:
    January 13th, 2015 at 12:35 am

Those that still believe Mariota is worthy of the first pick cannot be swayed even if the Tebow himself told them Mariota would not make it.

    lol.

by my count, Mariota has thrown only 6 passes more than 15 yards down field (and i’m giving him the benefit of the doubt on 2 passes that looked about 13 yards down field). more than half those times were in obvious passing situations.

Ask me how many times he dropped back from under center.

Its not that i don’t think Mariota will be good in the pro’s, its just that I don’t believe the #1 pick should be used on a project if you don’t have that luxury. You don’t pick a guy #1 with the intention of him sitting.

  443. BB Says:

Mariota our franchise QB will fight until draft day not giving in!

  444. cmurda Says:

Meh after seeing a lot of Winston and as much as I could see of Mariota, I’m not sold on either. Jameis does seem further along but there are too many concerns with him. Licht is umping on the #1 pick as much as possible by saying we want a QB. I have to hope one of the other teams falls in love with one of the QB’s and gives us a nice coup of picks.

  445. Bill Says:

Patrick, OSU’s defense looks a whole lot better than FSU’s.

  446. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    iamking

Why would you want Jameis after tonight. If you’re going to judge on just a couple of games clearly Jones has blown Jameis doors off just as much if not more than he has Mariotas.

Trade the pick and go for the best QB in this playoff..Cardale Jones.

  447. Soggy Says:

I really am beginning to think L&L will not draft MM or winston unless lovie can get past his good boy mind set to draft winston, We need a QB bad but I can see them trading down and getting someone later..

  448. bucrightoff Says:

Mariota had a meh night, nothing awful but nothing great. Jones outplayed him and was pretty amazing his entire run here. Would be wild to see him go pro now.

  449. celly Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan:

I sure do hope you’re joking.

  450. rayjay1122 Says:

I really do not like Ohio State but this is exactly why we sorely needed a playoff in college football. In the past OSU would not have even been given a chance to play in the championship game based on end of season ranking.

  451. celly Says:

    @bucrightoff:

No, it wouldn’t, because scouts and people that matter will look at the fact that he’s only played in a handful of games.

  452. StPeteBucsFan Says:

What did Jameis do in the Rose Bowl against this same defense.

Oh that’s right he lost any semblance of poise and choked. What did he do against Florida…oh that’s right a ton of ints…Louisville..the same thing.

Jameis has had ONE good year and he was surrounded by all kinds of NFL talent.

  453. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    BTW Celly,

Just to be clear I’m not suggesting that the Bucs take him with the top pick. He’s still a project without enough resume to be certain.

But if he’s even eligible to come out and he does I’d definitely take him in the 2nd before either of the Heisman’s with the top pick.

  454. Bill Says:

Cardale Jones hasn’t blown off anybodys door. He’s played 3 games.

MM moved up a little on my board, not much, but a little.

  455. iamkingsu Says:

    @Stpete
Because Jameis has been the only pick all year. I been saw I this game was going to play out. Check like the 4th comment or so on this thread at the top. I just wanted you’ll to see for yourselves.

Jones has talent dont know if he can read coverage. Urban has it set up for him if it’s not there then bail. A second round pick is a reach for him

  456. bucrightoff Says:

But as some are saying, less tape might be a good thing and his stock might never be higher. All it takes is one team to fall in love with the potential. And there appears to be a lot. Poise too.

  457. Mr. Patrick Says:

I think I hear the fat lady singing

  458. Jeagan1999 Says:

Ohio State Buckeyes….National Champions! Has a lovely ring to it! OHIO!!!!!!

  459. MadMax Says:

Glad theres a playoff system now…..I didnt think Oh St. was worthy, and they proved me wrong.

  460. DallasBuc Says:

Is there a way to get my Winson jersey in the old uni?

  461. P'cola Buc Says:

Winston? Mariota? Trade down? What is the consensus?

  462. R.O. Says:

You Mariota lovers better be careful what you wish for..

  463. 1trubuc Says:

I’m Thinking this game has shown why we should draft Famous Jameis vs. Mariota. MM is simply a product of his system and Jameis is player who elevates those around him. Let’s go L&L get our boy from FSU and start winning some games.

  464. Dave Pear Says:

The Baby Giraffe will be starting next year for the Bucs.

  465. bucrightoff Says:

Well Mariota has his excuse to go back now. Wouldn’t shock me if he did.

  466. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Jeagan

Just texted my son CONGRATS! And Congrats to you as well. I told him it’s all good for you guys. Urban has just made the Big Ten relevant again and when Harbaugh brings back Michigan it’ll be the return of one of the greatest rivalries in the game.

I know you probably hate Michigan but you really will be better off when they get competitive again. FSU-Florida just isn’t the same when either program is down.
This is why I hope McElwain is the real deal. Not because I’m a Gator or Nole hater but because it’s good for the rivalry.

  467. Tiny Tim Says:

    Winston baby!!!

  468. Eric Says:

Mariota is a very good college QB.

After tonight I see no way he qualifies as the number one pick in the draft.

The vast majority of his yardage was on short passes, I saw no going through progressions, and his arm isn’t that good.

If you added up NFL quality throws over the last two years, Winston is miles ahead.

Yeah he doesn’t throw too many picks. You don’t do that much on 3-5 yard passes.

  469. iamkingsu Says:

And all you mariota lovers feel free to change your names on here

  470. Mr. Patrick Says:

As I said before, this game shows how important it is to have a dominate O-Line

  471. MadMax Says:

I DO NOT WANT WINSTON OR MARIOTA!!!!!

    TRADE DOWN OR DRAFT…..

    LEONARD WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!!!!

  472. Bill Says:

MM looked better than I thought he would. I am concerned about his lack of fire. Getting the ball back, down 15 with 8-10 mins to go and he’s just standing there. Winston would be getting his guys fired up.

I think he played a pretty good game to be honest, but OSU slowed the duck running game and absolutely dominated time of possession (almost 2 to 1).

  473. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Dave Pear

“The Baby Giraffe will be starting next year for the Bucs.”

If I was a betting man that would be where I placed my chips. Oh the moaning here on JBF from Joe and the Jameis lovers when that happens.

Not only will not taking Jameis p!ss them off but they’ll have to eat all their Lovie liar posts. What if he and Licht really DID believe he’s the QB of the future and simple didn’t wish to crush any confidence by playing him behind our horrid OL.

  474. Bogiedr Says:

Second coming of Dennis Dixon … How did that work out?

  475. Dave Pear Says:

    StPete,
    Exactly what I was thinking.
The Baby Giraffe is a Matty Ice Clone.
You guys have a good night.
    I’m out,

  476. iamkingsu Says:

    Jaboo Wins!

  477. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    @StPete

The more I have watched Mariota and Winston, the more I have thought of that possibility. Trading down for extra picks and picking up so linemen and starting Glennon next year. I wouldn’t be totally against it, but this team needs a dynamic QB. Even when Glennon played considerably well against Pittsburgh and New Orleans, it was obvious that Lovie did not trust him just like Schiano did not trust Freeman.

  478. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Time to give it up for Urban. He’s got scoreboard three times now two different schools. He’s the man!

Cardale nice interview at the end. Seems like a classy young man.

  479. Mr. Patrick Says:

    Glennon!!!

  480. eric Says:

any question now I saw struggle when throwing to covered receivers which will be the norm in the NFL the fact that we are still having the conversation is a joke in it self that kid is nowhere near Winston as a QB right now!

  481. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The Bucs could trade the pick and multiply their chances at guessing right.

They could then pick a QB in the 3rd or even 4th..perhaps hope for a Brady miracle and wait until the 6th. If they pick any QB they can at least calm the Joes down a bit.

  482. iamkingsu Says:

    @joe
Thanks for opening this thread when I asked you too. You’re a good man. You see how easy that was to put that Mariota crap to bed

  483. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

NOW most want to say trade down for extra picks, LOL. Just quit please, Jameis is the one whether you like it or not.

  484. Eric Says:

Well folks aren’t gonna trade up for Mariota.

  485. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

You speak as if Mariota had a poor game.

  486. Mr. Patrick Says:

Jameis reminds me of the second coming of Byron Leftwich and Mariota is a talented project. Trade the #1 pick and build a dominate O-Line

  487. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Trust us Newbucs many of us will not like it if we select Jameis. He’s a divisive figure loaded with controversy. Just look at these threads the past two weeks. He’s a lightning rod of controversy not something I feel comfortable with as the “face of the franchise”.

But again…different strokes for different folks. I wouldn’t be counting my chickens before they’ve hatched however.

  488. iamkingsu Says:

    @eric
That’s the part that was the most frustrating that it was even an argument. They are scoreboard watchers no way they stayed up and watched Oregon play all year.Oregon game kickoff mostly around 1030pm eastern time

  489. Eric Says:

    Good night all.

With the number one pick in the draft the Tampa Bay Bucs select Jameis Winston………..

    Gonna be a great day.

  490. rayjay1122 Says:

Can’t blame Mariota for the defense getting schooled and a couple of offensive weapons being suspended. The Bucs are not going to make a decision based on one game. OSU just was the better team tonight. I still do not know what we should do in the draft. Winston is no slam dunk either. Too bad there is no Andrew Luck in this draft. I do not think anyone will want to trade up with us either. Maybe DE, OT or Amari Cooper are possible options. I am tired so this post is probably a little all over the place with possible choices but I would not trade up to #1 if I were another teams GM. Not enough value in my opinion. Still not sold on either of these QB prospects.

  491. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    I’m with you Mr. Patrick.

There were several styles of QB this weekend. From the statue Peyton Manning, I’m afraid the style of the game has passed him by which is what makes me nervous about MG8…to Brady..to Flacco…Rodgers…Wilson…and there was one common denominator among all the winning teams and it wasn’t the style of the QB. it was a powerful Oline that gave these QB’s time to pass.

It’s no accident that Glennon has looked great at brief intervals…and again the common denominator when Glennon looked good? The OL had a good game.

  492. Mr. Patrick Says:

No matter who the Bucs draft, they will still have the 4th best QB in the NFC South

  493. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Jameis loves. Derrick Brooks has met with him several times and remains unsold. Why? That according to DB55’s interview with Stroud published yesterday.

  494. iamkingsu Says:

    @rayjay

Winston is a slam dunk. The media hates him some of it is self inflicted. But there’s no doubt that they have it out for him

  495. cmurda Says:

The more I see of Mariota, the more I see why the experts say he would need to sit a year or two. He’s just not as NFL ready as Jameis. It really is true. I think he has talent but I think there’s more of a learning curve left with Mariota than with Winston. The more I see of both of them, the more it reinforces that I want to trade down if it’s there. We are in the greatest need for a QB but if there’s a surefire Offensive Lineman that is head and shoulders above the rest aka a Jake Long or Eric Fisher, I wouldn’t cry if we took him.

  496. Nuc if u Buc Says:

Winston = Jamarcus Russell but in prison by the end of preseason

  497. Bill Says:

StPete, it makes sense to let Brooks answer that question. Did he not?

  498. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Somebody call the freaking Waaaambulance. The media has it in for Jameis.

Why? Who else do they have it in for? Have you guys ever heard of the word accountability. Again why won’t Derrick Brooks sign off on Jameis as the top pick? That doesn’t concern you at all?

  499. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Mariotta played great in the 1st half. Oregon WR’s dropping 3 balls on 3rd downs in the 1st quarter was crucial. They had the opportunity to take a commanding lead and dropped it. I would still take him over Winston in a heartbeat. I am also starting to really like the idea of trading down a couple spots in the draft. Williams would help out our entire D from day one. That would go along way in winning football games.

Urban Myer simply out coached Oregon’s coach. When Oregon didn’t go for it on 4th down in the 1st quarter from around their own 45 yard line. You knew then something was different. Oregon’s trademark is going for it on 4th downs all the time. And all of a sudden, on the drive following and opening drive where they drove straight down OSU’s throat, they decide to play it safe for the 1st time all season. I couldn’t believe it.

  500. Mr. Patrick Says:

You are out of freaking mind!

  502. rayjay1122 Says:

Well its been fun. Thanks for the open thread Joe. Good night Bucs fans.

  503. iamkingsu Says:

Winston was just as good as luck was at Stanford. I’m saying it. I’m not scared to say it

  504. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Bill

I linked to the Stroud piece and copied DB’s responses on an earlier JBF thread or you could go to the TampaBayTimes and look it up under Stroud.

DB said Jameis is NOT ready to be the face of the franchise! Not that he couldn’t ever be ready but he needs work with his advisors and the team would have to have a special plan to work with him. When Stroud asked him point blank if he would draft Jameis #1 Brooks laughed and dodged and said he needed to keep options open because there’s still lots of work to be done in terms of interviews and background checks.

Derrick reportedly has been an advisor to Jameis. Why wouldn’t he come out unequivocally and say Jameis is the man? He’s met with Jameis on several occasions and obviously knows #5 better than anybody on this board.

I’m beginning to think it’s MG. I could live with that for a year to give MG8 a legitimate shot. I cannot live with another year of McCown. I’d rather see anybody but McCown even a different FA.

  505. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Mr Patrick

The 2 best O-Lines in the NFL are made up of 1st and 2nd round picks. Bucs, stop getting guys off the trash heap and draft some dominators

You’re preaching to the choir Mr Patrick. I like Andrus Peat at LT. He’s a true franchise tackle, His dad played in the NFL so it won’t overwhelm him at all.
He could be our next Paul Gruber.

  506. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Jameis is absolutely NOT a slam dunk. He is the definition of a risky pick. All the talent in the world and no brains. The media has it out for him because he gives them a reason. Good ‘ol Johnny Clipboard has the same problem. Winston could not only fail to live up to expectations on the field, but for all we know he will be in a state penitentiary in the coming years. He is damn talented and I would like to see him come to the Bucs and do what he did at FSU, but he is not a slam dunk. Vince Young was talented, JaMarcus Russell was talented, Troy Smith was talented, Ryan Leaf, etc. etc.

Andrew Luck has been the only slam dunk in years.

  507. Eric Says:

Heck yes Jameis is as good as Luck was at Stanford.

    Say it proud it’s true…..

  508. Tiny Tim Says:

    @stpetebuc

Stop trying to put words in Brooks mouth. Brooks was speaking from an organizational standpoint and how the bucs should handle having the #1 pick. He said keep your options open. Stop trying to make it seem as he was only singling out Winston. That article you are speaking of was from Rick stroud show when Brooks was a call in guest.

To summarize Brooks said………….”The second part of this is I’m going to keep my plans close to the vest. As much as you want to put me on the spot, I’m going to leave myself some room to get off it. In negotiating positions, I don’t want any of my other 31 competitors to know exactly what I’m going to do. Whatever I tell you, I warn you in the beginning, take it with a grain of salt.”

  509. iamkingsu Says:

Never charged for the sexual assault, that f her in the p*ssy that you always bring up. That’s a video on vine or one of them other social media sites where he stole that from. He was being a young college kid and repeating what he heard trying to get a laugh. The autographs you know he was cleared of that. What’s left?

  510. cmurda Says:

As of right now the #1 pick doesn’t look that appealing. We need to have some hype from the combine to sexy up that #1 pick. Get us a deal, stockpile the crap out of some picks and beef up the O and D Lines. You could put Joe Montana behind our O Line and people would be labeling him a bust.

  511. tbaybuc Says:

EVERYTHING aside….its really hard to deny that Jameis is the better prospect on the field to play QB in the NFL. with that said, congrats Ohio State! I did not see that coming after that Va Tech game, wow.

  512. Bill Says:

StPete, I’d agree he’s probably not ready to be the face of the franchise. Most rookies are not. Cam Newton wasn’t ready, but the talent was undeniable.

I’m not very concerned about anything Brooks says publicly. The smoke and mirror game is just beginning 😉

Hopefully the Bucs get it right, whatever that ends up being.

  513. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Tiny Tim

I can read English! Tony Dungy said he would take Mariota and had no problem.
In any normal situation an alumnus who has mentored his schools QB would not hedge. If he BELIEVED in Jameis..truly believed he was the man he would be speaking from an organizational standpoint and say YES we must take him.

He hedged every which way but Sunday and you cherry picked the most favorable part of that clip. You didn’t mention his saying Jameis was not ready yet. “Face of the franchise” requires more than physical skills. Jameis has not demonstrated those skills as of yet.

  514. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Have a great night guys. Time for bed. We have until April to debate this.

  515. Tiny Tim Says:

Brooks also said on the big dawg show before Christmas that he would not make a statement on who he would pick first because in all fairness to Mariotta, he had not evaluated a lot of his games so he would reserve judgement until he does. Don’t forget, Brooks is a GM for the storm and the way he thinks is like a GM. SO again, Brooks not answering stroud two weeks later on if the bucs should take Winston should not be a surprise or an indictment on Winston.

  516. cmurda Says:

DB isn’t going to play the Bucs cards. I disagree St Pete. DB is loyal to the Bucs and he knows it would hurt their bargaining power to reveal a hint at the plans. If DB was madly in love with Famous, he wouldn’t reveal it one iota. I take his comments with a grain of salt just like he wants me to.

  517. iamkingsu Says:

    @ St pete
my last comment was directed at you. Now respond

  518. Mr. Patrick Says:

Jameis was as good as Luck at Stanford? OMG, I think I’ll go to bed if I can stop laughing sometime tonight

  519. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Iamking

If you ever get accused of rape and there is an investigation, and if you’re “Famous” and representing for a major University, I would hope you have the brains not to utter such stupidity.

Again…I accept the bb gun…the crab legs…I never thought about the autographs I thought that was untrue?

It’s the number of events but most of it’s the lack of respect for your team, and your school to scream that particular obscenity, I don’t care if he was repeating an internet hoax, while you are by proxy your entire team is under the cloud of a rape allegation. That’s brain dead!

  520. Tiny Tim Says:

    @ StPetebucs.

Its obvious you don’t know who derrick brooks the man is. He is so politically correct and is never one to send shock waves with his comments. Again, him remaining silent is the way Derrick Brooks handles things. Look how he handled getting released by the Bucs. He said all the right things publicly, but you know he was stewing and probably saying all kind of things behind closed doors with his agent/family. As brooks said…..take what I’m saying with a grain of salt. But I guess people hear and read what they want to read.

  521. Vico Says:

So, trading down for a bunch of picks it is, right? No franchise QB’s in this draft.

  522. Andrew 1 Says:

I came away a little more impressed with Mariota, but not enough to choose him over Winston. He had some “wow” moments in the game tonight, like on one play where he read all of his options from right to left, found nothing and still completed a pass while scrambling near the left sideline. the play was called back on a holding, but it was impressive none the less. Still dont think Mariota is going to make it in the NFL though, because I think a large part of his success has to do with the system he plays in. Even Hurbstreet said on one particular third down that he didnt think Mariota would get it because the system he plays in is more of a gimick offense that wont work when you need a third and long. that’s not exactly what you want to hear about a potential franchise QB. When its third and long or your in the redzone (another bugaboo for Mariota tonight) I want my QB to thrive in those situations. I just dont see it with Mariota. Winston on the other hand you can definitely see it, he is special.

  523. Andrew 1 Says:

But I can definitely understand if the bucs are scared off by Winston’s off the field issues and decide to draft Mariota. If that Happens I’m willing to give Mariota a chance because you never know, he could make it.

  524. Jerry Says:

I dont think either of these guys are franchise-material, folks.

Drafting one may make you excited for 1 offseason…excited enough to get season tickets which is probably why the Glazers will do it….but after that, it’s JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young territory.

Maybe with the right coaching and the right development they can be adequate QBs. But I dont really see anything that is blowing me away. This looks like a very weak draft for QBs.

  525. iamkingsu Says:

    @St Pete
You’re looking at it from your perspective. Look at it from his perspective he probably feels he’s really innocent so hes going to continue to live his life and have fun. He probably didn’tthink that something that goes on in the student commons would go national. Youll keep looking at him as he got away with something. Quick question when does innocent until proven guilty apply? Or who does it apply to? He wasn’t even charged!

  526. Andrew 1 Says:

With Winston I get the sense that he can make any play work at any given time. That is special folks. With Mariota I just dont get that same sense.

  527. Architek Says:

Something seems to be missing with Mariota – can’t quite put a finger on it.

  528. PhantomVash808 Says:

I still say either take Mariota at #1 or trade down. I would not take the risk with Winston.

  529. DallasBuc Says:

What’s most important is that the Joe’s have made their site accessible again after couple days of badness and that we no longer have to debate unnecessarily about whether or not Winston should be our QB.
    Case closed

  530. The True Buc Fan Says:

I will be the real comment here. After reading most comments, laughable. Throw this at you, 14-1. Since the BCS teams leading at half are 14-1. Who is that 1? Oh yeah, Jameis Winston. Also, I saw Marcus Mariota take his first real NFL hit tonight, by a future NFL starter. What happened? He was very slow to get up, got hurt. Winston got murdered every week, his o-line was weak this year, it shows by increased sack numbers, and horrid running game. Mariota is a top 20 talent, talent, athlete, not a qb. Winston is a franchise qb. Watch the film. I have, both guys for past 2 years. Hundley shows more promise at qb than Mariota. True Buc Fan, out.

  531. mach Says:

I agree I just don’t know what it is but there is something missing with mariota maybe its the “it” factor. I also didn’t see him try to rally his guys like Winston did on the side-lines.

overall I think Winston just has that superstar factor while marital I think will be an average quarterback but not a great Qb

I would rather roll the dice with Winston myself but each to their own I guess.

  532. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

The Bucs have missed out on many picks. It’s time we go a little against the grain and take our chances with Winston. I see something in this guy that’s worth the risk. Heck we just gave away a first round pick for Revis’ s services just to let him walk. We have missed on multiple first round picks with Clayborn, Talib, and Barron so when you are talking QB who could potentially make the difference for the next decade it’s a no brainer you take him. The worst thing that can happen is he just becomes another name as the other countless first rounders we have wasted as years past. It’s worth the risk and that’s why you Mr. Winston, us Bucs fans trust and believe in you. We want to see you become that Man your momma raised you to be. Go Bucs!

  533. []_[]Buc Says:

IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT WINSTON’s TALENT

It all comes down to whether he can prove he can clean his act up off the field.

Speaking in absolutes when that is far from a certainty just makes you look silly.

If he can prove that great, bring him here cause from an on-field standpoint he has it all.

But it’s about the total package. And that IS reality.
