College Spread Offense Ruining NFL
Monday, April 13th, 2015It’s bad enough that the spread-option offense, which has spread across college football like rabies, is pumping out garbage NFL quarterbacks more often than not. That irks Joe. (more…)

Late Friday night, BSPN finally aired the episode of “Gruden’s QB Camp” Bucs fans were all waiting for — the episode in which Chucky hosted and grilled Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. (more…)
Remember former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and commander Greg Schiano throwing their hands in the air and waving the white flag on trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying and trying to develop a pass rush?
They reached the conclusion, “You know, aside from Gerald McCoy we can’t get past an offensive line of girl scouts, so why not beef up the secondary instead?” (more…)
Joe had an uncle who always said, “If you give charity, it will find its way back to you somehow.”
A feel good story circling the Internet about Bucs defensive end William Gholston has that kind of ring to it. (more…)
Tampa Bay has attempted all kinds of free agency maneuvers to shore up its hole at right defensive end, yet the team has done nothing to fix its woes along the offensive line. (more…)
Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston are such darn impressive quarterback prospects, per Donovan McNabb, both can be among the NFL elite provided they are blessed with certain things. (more…)
Jameis Winston, likely the next Buccaneers’ quarterback, may be one of the most brash and cocky guys to enter the NFL Draft since Deion Sanders.
Winston’s talking about Super Bowls in his rookie season and, among other things, he graded his Pro Day as “A++” to a national TV audience. (more…)
It simply is unreal, through three general managers and four head coaches, that the Bucs have never been able to replace defensive end Simeon Rice, who had double-digit sacks for five consecutive seasons (2001-2005)
How can a franchise shat in the bed this badly? (more…)
Joe has documented that history is unkind to coaches who guide their teams to the first overall pick in the draft.
Since 2003, only three coaches have done this and survived to use that draft pick. That would be Marty Schottenheimer, Steve Spagnuolo and Lovie Smith. (more…)
In NFL circles, the term “silly season” represents all the lies, planted lies and espionage that surface after evals of prospects are complete and there is too much down time before the draft. (more…)
It’s not just Father Dungy leading the Marcus Mariota Gang (and the trade-down crowd). Another respected voice is picking Mariota to lead the Tampa Bay offense — and for a stud running back prospect to join him. (more…)
By all measures, it seems the Bucs scored a touchdown landing Dirk Koetter as the team’s new offensive coordinator. Virtually everywhere he has been, Koetter has pumped out decent if not good offenses.
Koetter made former America’s Quarterback David Garrard into a solid signal-caller. And we all know the success Koetter had with Matty Ice in Atlanta. (more…)
Watching the debut of Jameis Winston on the famous Gruden’s QB Camp on BSPN2 last night was fun stuff for Bucs fans sick of dreadful quarterback play. (Isn’t that everyone?)
Two things of note were Chucky talking about the NFL practice field, and Winston taking what almost felt like a backhanded slap at the Lovie Smith regime. (more…)
Yes, the Interwebs went wild yesterday when Jameis Winston’s lawyer, David Cornwell, mentioned his client, while ready to play in the NFL, may not be mature enough to deal with the NFL lifestyle. (more…)
Regular readers here know Joe is your snooze-free source for all things Bucs, committed to obsessive coverage of the Buccaneers.
That doesn’t stop on weekends.
Tonight, cold beer in hand, Joe will be glued Jameis Winston’s debut on “Gruden’s QB Camp,” 11:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
Joe will deliver all kinds of stuff out of that, and Joe has plenty of draft coverage, Bucs nuggets and more for the weekend.
Stay safe out there.
Perhaps nobody had a bigger learning curve in the Buccaneers defense last year than Alterraun Verner. Joe’s not going to use the term “lost,” but Verner struggled with the radical transition from his days in Tennessee.
So it’s no surprise that Verner is pumped up by Tampa Bay’s offseason moves in 2015. (more…)
One Tampa Bay Buccaneer opened up today about the absence of former offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford and the rise of his ousted assistant, ill-suited playcaller Marcus Arroyo. (more…)
Bucs brass was busy this week. Flying Air Team Glazer to Eugene, Ore., and then to Tallahassee and then back to Tampa, that’s a helluva two-day roll.
Why go through that? Well, the Bucs wanted to work out Marcus Mariota, and then with his workout fresh in their minds, tackle Jameis Winston just hours later. (more…)
Bucs fans concerned that Jameis Winston’s past off-field hiccups may bubble up again after if the Bucs draft him are not out of line.
Neither are antsy NFL clubs. (more…)
The reality is Doug Martin hasn’t been a quality NFL starter since 2012.
If Martin played quarterback, the Bucs would have moved on already. (more…)
Declare today a holiday for the Mike Glennon Mob.
Donovan McNabb is saying Glennon should be the Bucs’ man to start this season. (more…)
