“Too Much Laissez-Faire Attitude”

April 24th, 2015

JameisJoe might have to scream at former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik for this one.

Yes, Dominik has been in Marcus Mariota’s corner for months. No problem there. But now Dominik is taking shots at Jameis Winston.

“But when you’re taking the No. 1 pick in the draft, you really want to feel comfortable about that. You don’t want to ever think twice about it,” Dominik said. “And for me with Jameis Winston, he’s got a little too much laissez-faire attitude. And that’s the only thing I get scared about because that can come back and haunt you in different ways. It doesn’t mean you’re going to do something dramatic off the field. But you still can embarrass the franchise. As much as I like him as a player, I like Marcus Mariota and that’s my No. 1 pick.”

You can see the entire discussion in the ESPN Outside The Lines video below.

Joe’s not sure where this “laissez-faire attitude” take on Winston comes from. Winston worked hard as a two-sport college athlete, and he was a good student. Winston’s poor. immature decisions appeared to be isolated incidents, not something indicative of his attitude as a football player.

Sure, Winston might embarrass the Bucs franchise, as Dominik said, but there’s nothing more embarrassing than losing 70 out of a 100 games, as the Bucs have done since December 1, 2008.

Dominik drafted Freeman in the 1st round! His opinion shouldn’t count!

  2. BucBoy Says:

He is exactly on point! Exclude the crab stealing belief that he is entitled to anything he wants, there were several reports today that Porky Jameis will be another collosal failure from the Bimbo Fisher coaching tree!

“Are you seriously considering taking this Jamarcus Russell clone #1 in the draft? You’d be drafting a quarterback that can’t run, has off-field problems, has no power in his legs and makes bad decisions on the field. Somebody’s going to make a horrible mistake.”

The results speak for themselves….Bimbo Fisher > Jamarcus Russell, Porky Jameis Winston, Christian Ponder, etc. etc.

I will probably be edited because Jose’ is all in on the porky one….but more and more serious sports professionals are pointing out the folly in taking this immature, slow, unfocused Bimbo Fisher product #1 in the draft!

Draft an edge rusher or a left tackle and take Bryce in the 2nd round!

  3. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Anytime that I’m on the other side of Mark “Teflon” Dominik, I’m feeling good.

  4. mjc Says:

Who cares what he has to say. His record speaks for itself. Extremely poor draft record.

  5. Please Says:

    JameisDefense.com is available Joe!

  6. Andrew 1 Says:

Ouch… with Dominick backing him, I take this as more of a blow to the Mariota Mariachi band.

  7. Greg Says:

And that’s why Dumbass Dominik is a talking head instead of a GM!

  8. mjc Says:

    BucBoy Says:

Which games have you watched the last 2 years, obviously none of the FSU games. Even Lou Holtz had to admit last season the Seminoles were an average team without Jameis. Holtz hates Jameis. I guess it was Maguire leading all those comebacks.

  9. A Gator that loves the Bucs Says:

“Isolated incidences”? Just how many “isolated incidences” can you have in a two year period before they aren’t really isolated anymore? Joe it is people that minimize his actions so much that make us that have nothing against him question the poor kid even more. Jeesh

  10. SAMCRO Says:

I agree. It makes me wish Dominik was still our GM.

  11. LargoBuc Says:

Mark Dominik, Barry Melrose, Skip Bayless bspn sucks! Who cares what they have to say. The casual fan watches bspn and takes everything they say as gospel, which is why most casual fans are ignorant, moronic millenials. I cant stand watching football with fantasy lovers.

  12. ander Says:

and dominick drafted freeman who loves to sleep

  13. Ray Rice Says:

Fuk him. His bull$hit a$$ drafting is the main reason the YUCS are well… the YUCS. This is coming from the guy who felt compelled and comfortable drafting Freeman, Barron, Bowers, Clayborn, etc… I forgot to mention Myron “I got beat on 3rd down again” Lewis, and E.J. “My dreads are holding me back” Biggers.

  14. Armando Says:

Jamarcus Russell was never accepted at Stanford – keep hating Gators it’s all you got

  15. The Don Says:

Dominik is the last opinion that should matter

  16. meatloph Says:

As much as I was sold before double it just because of this, Dominick is a clown when it comes to anything but writing contacts.

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

Leopards always change there spots. Don’t they?

  18. mjc Says:

    Dominik record

    2009 – Josh Freeman
    2010 – Benn, Price , Mike Williams
    2011 – Calyborn , Bowers
    2012 – Barron, Martin

These are some of his early round selections that all did not pan out

Only good selections were McCoy , David, Jury is still out on Banks

  19. port richey george Says:

there are many others on the various sports websites that agree with rock star Dominik. they would take mariota.

  20. Clodhopper Says:

I would like one talking head, one commenter, one writer, just one person answer this question. With all we know about Chip Kelly, spread option QB’s transition to NFL, Oregon’s offense, what makes any person think the can believe their own eyes when looking at Mariota? We’ve been scammed by this every year and no one ever learns from it. I never seen this topic answered by a single soul. It’s like going into an election with an 11% unemployment rate and all they want to argue about is abortion.

Nick Foles was a nobody until Chip got a hold of him. He had Mariota like stats two years ago and Chip couldn’t wait to unload him this offseason.
Sanchez was a laughing stock before Chip got a hold of him.
I could go on for days the spread option qb’s that fooled everyone. What makes you believe you are not being fooled again? Because I don’t trust my eyes one bit!

  21. Clodhopper Says:

“But you still can embarrass the franchise.”

Now, all of a sudden he is worried about us being an embarrassment after two regimes of laughing stocks under his tutelage!!

  22. Barry Says:

Selling your soul to the Devil really isn’t a good idea Joe.

  24. port richey george Says:

I was just over at profootballtalk com they have an article comparing jameis to Jamarcus. here is a taste:

Is Jameis Winston the next JaMarcus Russell? He is according to one unnamed executive.

“With Jameis Winston I see JaMarcus Russell,” an unnamed personnel executive told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

  25. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Jameis is going to blow up on the world stage……just a matter of time……TMZ regular

  26. panhandle buc Says:

“There are many other various sports websites that agree with domink”

    Name 2……..

  27. Greg Says:

Its about time Joe and you nole fans realize that its a business decision as well as a football decision. You want to make excuses for Winston for everything he does off the field and on the field. He is an average quarterback on the field and moron off the field. Lovie will be fired in 2 years if he drafts him and the next coach will want his guy. Both qbs have question marks about their play on the field but it has been proven that Winston is a train wreck off the field. Trade down or draft another possession. This team has no offensive tackle , no guard worth a crap but they make up for it by having no running game. Leonard Williams has NO question marks on or off the field and wont be replaced if we make a coaching change like a qb.

  28. Joe Says:

He is an average quarterback on the field

This is news to Joe. No NFL type Joe has spoken with has said this. None.

but it has been proven that Winston is a train wreck off the field.

No more so than Derrick Brooks or Warren Sapp. Did you bellyache into the night when the Bucs drafted those two? Might want to do some research.

Trade down or draft another possession.

Why do some Bucs fans enjoy losing so? Or are you a closet Dixie Chicks fan?

Leonard Williams has NO question marks on or off the field and wont be replaced if we make a coaching change like a qb.

Winning with defense days are over. Open your eyes, Woody.

  29. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

So, today we’ve had one NFL exec compare Jameis to a bloated, purple drank loving, lazy SOB that didn’t even like to play football and a former NFL exec say that Jameis has a laissez fair attitude which I guess means Dominik thinks jameis doesn’t care about the game?

Do these guys do ANY homework at all? Seriously…this is the most ridiculous criticism of Jameis that you could possibly make. Criticize his throwing motion, criticize his number of INTs, criticize his 40 time all you want…..but when you criticize Jameis for being “laissez faire” or lazy then you expose yourself as someone who has done ZERO homework on the kid at all. Literally, the people making these critiques have done absolutely no looking into Jameis at all. It would be laughable if they weren’t drawing paychecks for this garbage.

  30. Joe Says:

Nick Foles was a nobody until Chip got a hold of him.

Stop. No fan of spread-option quarterbacks in the NFL, but Foles arguably played just as good if not better under Andy Reid.

  31. Joe Says:

Joe doesn’t even want to touch the Russell BS because it is so preposterous. The only main comparison you can make from Winston to Russell is that both are African-American. Read into that what you wish.

  32. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Its about time Joe and you nole fans realize that its a business decision as well as a football decision.

This type of comment just shows how little you know.

Who is the most popular character in Star Wars? Yoda or Darth Vader?

Who is the most popular character in wrestling? Is it the heel or the hero?

Go up to Tally and ask the Garnet and Gold store if they’re going to sell more Sean Maguire jerseys than Jameis.

I don’t believe Jameis is Darth Vader, but that’s how he’s perceived….and Darth Vader sells more jersey’s than Luke Skywalker.

Put it like this…the only thing worse than people hating you is when no one gives a spit. Right now, and for the past 8 years, NO ONE has given a spit about the Buccaneers. Draft Jameis and this team will be leading SportsCenter all year long….and THAT is good for business.

  33. Barry Says:

Jon Gruden – Tony Dungy – Bill Polian – Mark Dominik are just a few who prefer Mariota over The Horny Crab.

    #DP #HGH #PEDs #BrainDeadRetard

  34. Clodhopper Says:

Joe, you’re right. I got my dates all fudged up. Some reason I was thinking he didn’t play his rookie year. I’m embarerrased I forgot about him beating us in the last minute in 2012.

  35. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Now that’s real talk creamsicle… Another thing to ponder, does anyone else notice a common theme with these former Buccaneer employees. Dungy,Dumminik,Gruden,Becht.. All against drafting WINSton. Might their be a hint of jealousy considering what this franchise is about to become under WINSton’s leadership? Just a thought. Much like many other on this site.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Laissez-Faire?….Pablo has enough trouble understanding English without seeing words like this….:Pablo usually knows all words that end in a Z….but not this one. Pablo was lazy at a fair once….but Pablo is lazy everywhere…as far as Winston is concerned, Pablo loves the thought of Winston coming to town….Winston will take the heat off of Pablo. Pablo needs a rest”

  37. Greg Says:

Joe, He only played 2 years and in his most recent he lead college qbs in interceptions. Where do you find greatness in that? There is not 1 but 2 different girls claiming he raped them. This is not a courtroom and Im not saying he was guilty but obviously something happened that made those 2 different girls go to the cops. There is a difference between not finding evidence 11 months later and actually not doing it in the first place. He was over weight at the combine and during his playoff run. Possible arm weakness. Not smart enough to not yell sexual obscenities while under investigation for assault? Really? Where is the Derek Brooks comparison you mention? Its the number 1 overall pick, you cant think this guy is the best player.

  38. ndog Says:

Are you kidding me? Mariota is the walking (not) talking example of laissez-faire! I’m not even sure the guy likes football and to be honest I think whoever drafts him will be embarrassed in 3 years by missing this in the interview process. You can see it when the guy gets hit in the mouth, he just folds.

  39. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Greg you left out just 1 lost in those two season’s homie.

  40. Greg Says:

True but if he faced any teams with anything close to an offense he would have lost more. A reporter asked Payton Manning once about his success at come from behind victories. He said “That just means I stunk at the beginning of the game.” His team was better than most he faced. Will that be the same in the nfl???

  41. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @Nole-Bucc

I was going to go point by point and show all the inaccuracies in Greg’s post. But, it doesn’t matter. Those people don’t want to know the truth. They want to read headlines. And, most importantly, Jameis is the pick. Nothing is changing that he will be Tampa’s next QB, no matter what inaccurate things people say. We can celebrate right now.

  42. Greg Says:

Glennon came from behind, Freeman came from behind. Dont have to be a number 1 draft pick to do it.

  43. Greg Says:

There are crappy quarterbacks riding the pine on every team that played in “Pro” style offenses. Matt leinhart, Mark sanchez. both crap but played on a team that had more talent then their conference.

  44. Mariota Joe Says:

And Joe tosses the race-card hand grenade…..nice….

  45. Mariota Joe Says:

NFL Exec: Drafting Jameis Winston Will Be “A Horrible Mistake”

Sorry, Joe doesn’t do links here. –Joe

  46. Greg Says:

No need for race card. Winston gives enough reasons to hate him all by himself. Ask yourselves this though. What if jameis was white and the girls were african american… Al Sharpton and a whole parade would be protesting at FSU the way the investigation was handled. Again not saying he was guilty but as a human being you have to hate how FSU handled it. Didnt help the girls or Winston.

  47. delson Says:

Mariota. Don’t sound to me like dominik changed his reasoning why he wouldnt want winston. Just struck a nerve on these fsu fans

  48. bucs4lyfe Says:

That’s funny he drafted Freeman a guy announcers were saying didn’t even look interested during games before he got his first start. His attitude is nothing compared to Freeman. Wonder how he’d feel if his record as a GM is posted during games, had zero credibility

  49. tval Says:

    Blah blah

  50. Greg813 Says:

We have not won a playoff game since 2003. Winston is the best QB in the draft it seems like a no brainer to me. The 2002 team was the last superbowl winner without a elite QB. Winston will be fine

  51. JBuc Says:

Name the NFL exec that made the comment or shut up. Tis the season of smoke screens and BS quotes. If you aren’t man enough to claim your comments then they shouldn’t count for anything.

  52. The Other Side of the Coin Says:

Whine all you want haters. Winston is the pick and true Bucs fans are going to love it. I look forward to hearing you guys jump on ever little mistake he makes while totally ignoring quality man and excellent player he becomes. Good time to be a Buc fan.

  53. Buccfan37 Says:

What does Dominik mean “laissez faire”? I looked it up in Webster’s, the definition reads “the theory that government should intervene as little as possible in the direction of economic affairs”. Nonchalant makes sense, it means “coolly unconcerned”.

  54. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Don’t mention the race card around Pablo. Pablo continually searches the roster for players who’s name ends in a Z. Pablo yearns for the days of Jeff Garcia and wants Bucs to lure Anthony Munoz out of retirement…..nobody cares about Pablo’s race sensitivity and Pablo is very hurt”

  55. gotbbucs Says:

Dominik’s roster full of Eagle Scouts won us so many games, I forgot.

How can anybody take seriously the “unnamed” NFL executive with the Jamarcus Russell BS. NFL executive has got to be the most loosely thrown around term in the world right now. For all I know this is the guy who runs out and gets lunch during the meetings.

  56. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Say it again tval. You know what I will blah blah blah. 6 more days and this none since ends. Only real question to be asking is what number King Jamies will choose.

  57. crazy Says:

The best QB is the one who fits your team best. If we’re installing Koetter’s version of Chicago’s offense – it’s Jameis. If you want more out of your offense than that – and the Glazers did when they went after Chip Kelly – then he’s not. Mariota may be or he may not. We’ll know soon enough.

  58. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

I’ve been working all day and this was the first chance I had to stop by. Started my weekend off with a huge laugh. Thanks Joe. Dominik…buuuuwaahahahaha!

  59. grafikdetail Says:

  60. squadoosh Says:

Mark Dominick doesn’t like him? Awesome, now I am convinced we should take Jameis!…Thanks for confirming the right decision Mark!

  61. MTM Says:

I’m all for drafting Mariota but Dominick’s draft record shows he was clueless as a GM.

  62. BuccaneEric Says:

Greg, I know Brad Johnson wasn’t elite, but he did lead the NFC in QB rating in 2002. QB rating means more to some than others, but he was as close to elite as we have seen as Buc fans.

  63. CLW JB Says:

Dominick made Ray Perkins look like an astute evaluator of talent – whatever he says, do the opposite immediately!

  64. salish_seamonster Says:

    winston = high bust potential

  65. BuccaneEric Says:

Most draft picks don’t hit. There are as many undrafted players in the NFL as players taken in rounds 5-7. And 1st round picks are 50/50 at best.

  66. BuccaneEric Says:

The term “draft expert” doesn’t exist. If one did he would be a rich man and his team would win the superbowl every year. “Experts” can watch tape on 300 players every year untill their eyes bleed and they will be wrong just as much as me if I was making draft picks on a dart board. Every pick has a bust potential, no matter the pick or the round.

  67. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Salish= high bust potential

  68. Buc1987 Says:

Your late…it did happen. Google Duke lacrosse team sexual assault. And being black, none of us were outraged because we saw the holes in that “thot’s” story as well. People always wanna turn it around and cry when Al “pimp hand” Sharpton shows up..well hell you guys had the aryan nation and kkk for years…where’s your bitching about them? And yes they still exist.

  70. bucswarrior1977 Says:

I don’t agree with 90 percent Sharpton’s words…but I’m in an interracial marriage with mixed kids and see racism both ways everyday. So I have a zero tolerance for ignorance and some of you fit that category so I just skip over those comments. What happened to reading a blog and actually being about sports w/o any reference to race of sexual preferences? Geez.. Sensitive, naw this country has taken freedom of speech rule and people their mouths w/o fear of consequence.

  71. lurker Says:

todd mcshay was on some espn segment today picking his top 5 qb since 2011 and had winston #2 right behind luck @#1. said luck was probably a 99 and winston a 98, though it was winston’s off-field shenanigan’s that caused him issues.

he also, mentioned about the dichotomy of winston being a leader on the field and follower of the field.

  72. loggedontosay Says:

Mark Dominik had his chance and he failed!

  73. chipbuc Says:

With Mark Dominiks track record of drafting, if he is picking Mariota then its almost a lock that hes wrong. In my opinion just draft the opposite of his pick, Winston and you cant go wrong!!!!!!!!

  74. Brandon Says:

I don’t think Dominik quite understands the term “laissez-faire” which pretty much means he thinks the QB has a laid back attitude….I’m pretty sure the same thing has been said about Mariota constantly, saying he isn’t a leader, saying he is not vocal at all, he’s a very quiet presence… Winston on the other hand is pretty much the opposite…not laissez-faire. All the Winston haters point to him screaming at the head coach on the sideline as a reason for not wanting him… is that laissez-faire?

  75. David Says:

Haters! When Jameis is a buc and we are winners again all haters(gators) will be changing your tunes , but we can always look back at the archives and look at your idiotic comments! You all don’t like Mariotta because he’s better , you just hate Jameis because he’s. Seminole. If he had come for the U of Fl you would be saying he was the next joe Montana…haters!
