After a three-year brain fart, the NFL has come to its senses and restored the Pro Bowl’s traditional AFC vs. NFC format.
Thankfully, we didn’t have to witness the spectacle of Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice trying to divvy up the rosters, but let’s not get carried away — this game still stinks.
In honor of Sunday night’s matchup at Camping World Stadium, here’s one man’s version of the all-time Buccaneer Pro Bowl squad. (more…)

If the Bucs are to emerge as a league power in the fall, they must add a few significant pieces on each side of the ball.
They need to find a true No. 2 receiver, revive a feeble ground game and show more toughness against the run. They can’t finish last in field-goal percentage or allow 34 completions of more than 25 yards.
One more thing — Jameis Winston has to be a better quarterback. (more…)
Wild Tuesday on the Ira Kaufman Podcast. Every once in awhile, the guys who astutely run this website have to be slapped back into reality.
This is one of those moments.
The same pundits who foolishly labeled Mark Dominik a “rock star” and prematurely assigned Jameis Winston with the title “America’s Quarterback” are now giddy with the prospect of the Bucs going hog wild in the offseason. (more…)

I’m not defending Antonio Brown’s dumb decision to film the proceedings in the Steelers’ locker room for the world to see after Sunday night’s emotional playoff win at Kansas City. (more…)

I had the pleasure of Tony Dungy’s company at breakfast Friday morning for an in-depth discussion about John Lynch’s demanding role in that iconic Buc defense.
More on that subject in later columns, but I also had the opportunity to get a Hall of Fame coach’s thoughts on the current state of the Buccaneers and Jameis Winston’s leadership skills. (more…)

The Bucs developed mental toughness in 2016, but as Clint Eastwood said to Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, “girlie, tough ain’t enough.”
This franchise is now a $1.5 billion baby, according to Forbes, and let’s not forget Tampa Bay also made strides on the soft side en route to a 9-7 record.
After their first winning season since 2010, Buc players were quick to credit team camaraderie as a vital ingredient in their success. (more…)
As one of 15 modern-era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Lynch’s case will be heard in front of the Selection Committee for the fourth consecutive year.
And because the Class of 2018 is loaded with first-time eligibles like Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, Brian Urlacher and Ronde Barber, this is Lynch’s best shot to join Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks in the Hall. (more…)

Making the Pro Bowl is a nice honor. Making the All-Pro team is more challenging — and ultimately more rewarding.
It’s the difference between a People’s Choice Award and an Oscar.
As one of 50 media members on the Associated Press panel, I submitted my All-Pro ballot earlier this week. The AP will reveal the winners on Friday, but our loyal readers shouldn’t have to wait that long to see who your humble servant selected as the best of the best for the 2016 regular season. (more…)

In the end, Sunday’s matchup wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t particularly artistic, either, and nobody will be talking about it Monday morning on the NFL Network.
But like the bulk of Tampa Bay’s season, it was successful. (more…)
