There’s nothing like having a good player with supreme expectations and confidence, combined with a winning resumé.

Leslie Frazier talked about yesterdays’ fight at One Buc Palace
The Buccaneers had their first skirmish of training camp yesterday, with George Johnson and Demar Dotson at the bottom of the pile and teammates darting into the scrum.

Yes, “Hard Knocks” debuted last night. No, Joe didn’t see it. Joe cancelled HBO the instant “The Sopranos” went dark. It would have to be some kind of spectacular TV event to get Joe to pick HBO back up.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock defended “America’s Quarterback” yesterday.
There isn’t a guy around talking football that Joe enjoys listening to more than Mike Mayock. Doesn’t mean Joe agrees with him all the time, but Joe could just sit for hours and listen to the guy.

Bucs DT Akeem Spence seemed to backtrack from his previous proclamation that he would be out two months.
Just when training camp started, Bucs defensive tackle Akeem Spence said he would be out a “couple of more months” after having back surgery in the offseason.
Just hours after the Bucs signed former Seahawks tackle Tony McDaniel yesterday, Joe got a chance to talk to good guy Spence, and he refused to offer any target date for his return. (more…)

Jameis referred to the baseball brawl at practice today as a form of competition.
Who gives a damn about back shoulder throws and pass coverage over the middle when your favorite football team busts out in a baseball brawl with shoving and pushing and hollering?
That’s entertainment, and you will be hard-pressed not to find anyone at Bucs training camp practice today to suggest that was not a highlight. (more…)

The Buccaneers’ new defensive tackle, 2013 and 2014 Seahawks starter Tony McDaniel, was practicing today at One Buc Palace.
And he told Joe that former Bucs star and Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, who was allowed to walk from the Bucs for no good reason, influenced his decision to sign with Tampa Bay. (more…)

Relationships brought WR Rannell Hall to the Bucs.
Since Joe started this here corner of the Interwebs, Joe has heard how the NFL is about relationships (so too with the fourth estate). And that sure seems to be the case.
In fact, it is because of relationships that the Bucs may have found a sleeper wide receiver.

If you’re looking for fourth-year cornerback Leonard Johnson at Bucs practice, he’s likely he’s within three feet of Tampa Bay’s dedicated nickel cornerback coach Larry Marmie.
They’re often alone, which is a bit of a surprise to Joe and a member of the Buccaneers’ defensive backs corps. (more…)

A certain NFL center compared “America’s Quarterback” to Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers.
It’s no secret how terribly irked Joe was by the tough-guy front Bucs center Evan Smith was giving “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.
The longer time went on, the more hints emerged that there was rancor between the two, even from offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. (more…)
