These anti-progressive, anti-Johnny Football fearmongers want you to believe Johnny Football is not a team player, that he is neither respected nor liked inside the walls of the Texas A&M locker room, thus, is not fit to wear the pewter and red of the Bucs. Joe didn’t expect many NFL heavy hitters at yesterday’s afternoon practice of the East-West Shrine Game at St. Petersburg High School. Boy, Joe was wrong.

Oh, sure, Packers general manager Ted Thompson was there. That’s no surprise. The guy is a fixture at these practices. An old school scout, Thompson still likes to get his feet on the grass of a football field and eyeball players. Sometimes in years past, the only general managers Joe saw at the Shrine practices were Thompson and former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik, and in part, Dominik was there because the practices were all but held in his back yard. Jiminy Christmas! Bucs tight end Luke Stocker (remember him?) is such a puzzling figure that they don’t know what to make of him over at One Buc Palace.

Scott Smith of the Bucs’ official website calls Stocker an “enigma” in his latest piece on Bucs returning from injured reserve. [read more]

Greg Schiano and Lovie Smith do have something in common. Both were fired after seasons in which their defenses did an incredible job forcing turnovers.

Lovie’s Bears led the NFL in turnovers in 2012. Last season, Schiano’s Buccaneer Men were third in the league.

Rewriting LeGarrette Blount history.

Joe knows Bucs fans were outraged Saturday night when they saw former Bucs castoff and leading rusher LeGarrette Blount abuse the Colts in an AFC playoff game, running for four touchdowns and 176 yards. Joe couldn’t believe the revisionist history he was reading.

For a moment on Twitter and on this here corner of the Interwebs, Joe would have thought the Bucs traded Jim Brown in his prime for a third-day draft pick. [read more]

Joe finds it somewhat comical when he hears Bucs fans talk about how Lovie Smith is going to revive players w, x, y and z. Insert whatever names you want (outside of a select handful), but there is no assurance those players will be in Tampa next September.

Always a fun sight in the Bucs locker room over the past two seasons was Bryan Cox walking around in a fancy lid and sporting a cigar thicker and larger than Joe had ever encountered. (No oval-office jokes, please) Yes, Cox confirmed to Joe that they were special, authentic Cubans.

An NFL insider reveals a division

A lot has been made about how much power new Bucs coach Lovie Smith wields within the organization. Joe believes Lovie was granted great power by Team Glazer, otherwise, he would have interviewed with other teams, if for no other reason than to hear what others would offer. [read more]

Joe is not about to blast the LeGarrette Blount trade to New England last spring; it was a sound deal for a variety of reasons, and the Bucs’ stable of running backs is in great shape, in part, because of it.

But a clear oversight/misevaluation of the Greg Schiano regime led to that move, and it’s a good example of the difference between a subpar head coach and a great one. [read more]
