Is Geoff Schwartz a free agent guard Jason Licht should sign?
Yes, the clock is ticking down to the ringing of the dinner bell which opens the floodgates to free agency at 4 p.m. on March 11. In fact, tomorrow, March 3 at 4 p.m., is the deadline for teams to tag players. So Bucs fans should know by the end of business day tomorrow a potential pool of free agents Bucs general manager Jason Licht may target. [read more]

It all started early this week when CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora wrote that NFL teams have called the Bucs to kick the tires on a trade for all-world cornerback Darrelle Revis. Given the words of Bucs coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht, that doesn’t appear likely barring an earth-shattering deal.

It’s sad when Daniel Te’o-Nesheim is considered one of a team’s better defensive ends.
It gets Joe just angry to think about. How many years did Bucs former rock star general manager Mark Dominik try in vain to land a strong defensive end? Draft picks galore, money spent, and nothing. Poor Gerald McCoy is getting abused he has so many offensive linemen ganged up on him and not one Bucs defensive end can take advantage.
It is sinful.

Of course, it’s hard to rush the passer from the edge when you have arguably your best defensive end covering the likes of New Orleans running back Darren Sproles in the flat. There simply isn’t enough alcohol for Joe to down to someone accept the notion that Clayborn guarding one of the quickest guys to ever snap on a chin strap is sound strategy.

Stat geeks are in his corner
After Joe listened to and talked to both Bucs coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht last week at the NFL Scouting Combine, one thing was clear (aside from their disappointment in the shenanigans of Mike Williams): the Bucs’ offensive line must play better.
Bucs fans would agree. What was supposed to be a strength turned to a weakness last year. [read more]

Don’t count TampaBay.com Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud as a member of the Mike Glennon Mob.
Stroud took a look at NFL Network draft guru Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft and believes, if Jeremiah’s scenario played out, the Bucs absolutely would be forced to draft a quarterback with franchise-QB potential at the No. 7 overall pick. [read more]

Andre Roberts?
Clearly the Bucs’ biggest mystery lies at the quarterback position. But the second giant question mark is how much the Bucs will invest into improving the offense next month
As glaring a hole as the Bucs have at defensive end, there’s a bigger crater in the receiving corps. [read more]

Lovie Smith has a huge focus on special teams. In fact, they are key to Lovie’s weak-offense formula for winning 10 games in a season.
As part of Joe’s continuing look at free agents that will help replace at least half the current Buccaneers, one of the Bears’ best special teamers (not named Hester) could be a Tampa Bay target when the free-agency bell rings in 11 days. [read more]

The news of the week dropped by CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora is still buzzing around the Tampa Bay area. Should, or will, the Bucs trade all-world cornerback Darrelle Revis?
The issue has Bucs fans split. But one Bucs beat writer who is not torn on the subject is Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune. In an interview granted to Bleacher Report, Cummings had pointed comments about the notion of a Revis Trade. [read more]

Joe’s hopes have been dashed. The Bucs will not make their first appearance in the Hall of Fame game since the Tony Dungy era.
The annual kickoff to the NFL preseason will be played in Canton by the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills. A Tampa Tribune report weeks ago said the Bucs were a possibility for the game in 2014.
If nothing else, this means the Bucs will have a traditional preseason and training camp, one that will afford fans loads of opportunities to see the team practice in person.

“Bill, let’s name that one the Trenton tango.”
My, my, my, how interesting it was yesterday to hear one of Greg Schiano’s mentors, Dave Wannstedt, express how much he doesn’t like it when 4-3 defenses get cute and blitz-happy, rushing the passer with stunts and “tricking” and not letting their pass rushers attack the quarterback and make plays.
Last season’s Bucs special teams coach took to the SiriusXM NFL Radio airwaves yesterday to share his philosophy. [read more]
