The Blind Can See Bucs Need A QB

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015
The quarterback play by the Bucs was so awful, not even Bucs QB Josh McCown could watch.

Bucs quarterback play was so awful, not even Josh McCown could watch.

The poor Bucs fans who threw out hundreds (thousands?) of dollars this year to watch dreck perceived to be an NFL team are appalled at what became of their Bucs. Joe can totally understand.

Hell, Joe was watching Bucs games for fun and work, and even they were painful. The play of turnover-prone Josh McCown was so awful, Bucs fans wanted to rinse their eyes out with battery acid. (more…)

Darrelle Revis Worth $20 Million?

darrelle revis 0127

So Joe is in the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix, for Super Bowl Media Day, and week actually. Joe is going to spend a couple of extra days.

Last night, after Joe flew in, picked up credentials, talked to a few old media friends like Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Howard Balzer of SiriusXM NFL Radio, and got a feel for the lay of the land, a long day of travel was coming to an end. Nourishment was in order. Read: A burger and a craft beer. (more…)

Don’t Mess With Homeland Security

All day long, Joe will interview and talk Bucs football with literally dozens of NFL media types from across the country, former Buccaneers, NFL legends, and members of the Seahawks and Patriots rosters and coaching staffs.

Yes, it’s Super Bowl Media Day in Arizona!

Joe will deliver you various goodies later today and through the next few weeks. (more…)

Jameis Watch: Backhanded Theismann Pick

Monday, January 26th, 2015

jameis and jimboCrab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida. (more…)

The 12-Year Anniversary

Monday, January 26th, 2015

Bucs fans know greatness intimately. That’s one reason why so much of the fan base walks around ill.

Our beloved Buccaneers haven’t been good in a while, and it’s been 12 years since the team was great — 12 years ago today. (more…)

Ronde Barber Paints Rosy Picture

Monday, January 26th, 2015
Bucs great Ronde Barber believes the near future is bright.

Bucs great Ronde Barber believes the near future is bright.

Joe admires former Bucs cornerback Ronde Barber. How could you not? The future (hopefully) Hall of Famer did everything the right way and, as a broadcaster, doesn’t often pull punches.

However, in a piece broadcast last night on Sunday Sports Extra with Barber talking to local raconteur Dan Lucas, Barber not only pulled punches, but seemed to wrap himself in a straight jacket when discussing the Bucs. (more…)

Overanalyzing

Monday, January 26th, 2015
Bucs fans are doing way too much reading between the lines to figure out the future.

Bucs fans are doing way too much reading between the lines to figure out the future.

Tampa Bay fans are eager for their team to rise from the ashes like a phoenix to burn the NFL next year.

Despite playing a lot of close games, the Bucs are a long, long, long way from being a good team. Way too many holes, including the most important, quarterback. (more…)

Spreadsheeters Not Fond Of David

Monday, January 26th, 2015
Spreadsheeters were not overly impressed with Bucs OLB Lavonte David this season.

Spreadsheeters were not overly impressed with Bucs OLB Lavonte David in 2014.

Joe brought word last week that stud outside linebacker Lavonte David was trying to get both his name and likeness out there for deserved recognition.

In fact, David is going to the Valley of the Sun this week to press flesh with NFL movers and shakers, and likely take a trip through radio row, and the makeshift studios of the NFL Network, Fox Sports 1 and BSPN, as well. (more…)

The One That Got Away

Monday, January 26th, 2015
Seahawks DE Michael Bennett -- who the Bucs let walk away for no good reason -- ride's a cop's bike in glee after defeating the Packers in the NFC title game last week. Joe hopes to talk to him tomorrow.

Seahawks DE Michael Bennett — who the Bucs let walk away for no good reason — ride’s a cop’s bike in glee after defeating the Packers in the NFC title game last week. Joe hopes to talk to him tomorrow.

As you are reading this here corner of the interwebs, Joe is en route to Tampa International Airport where he will board a plane for the Valley of the Sun and Phoenix, as Joe makes his annual trip to Super Bowl Media Day.

Joe will be in downtown Phoenix (no, the event will not be held at the birdcage the Cardinals call home in Glendale, due west of Phoenix) to catch all the hoopla, hysteria and, yes, hotties flaunting their wares at media day. (more…)

Sunday, January 25th, 2015

Jason WilliamsJoe knows the Bucs-junkie audience here is drooling for any juicy piece of Bucs insight on this football-free Sunday.

No, the Pro Bowl isn’t football, and no Buccaneer is playing anyway. (more…)

Controversy!

Sunday, January 25th, 2015
Somehow, Bucs TE Kellen Winslow got called for pass interference on this touchdown play, which cost the Bucs a playoff berth and changed NFL history.

Somehow, Bucs TE Kellen Winslow got called for pass interference on this touchdown play, which cost the Bucs a playoff berth and changed NFL history.

The NFL loves controversy. And controversy equals drama, and the NFL loves, loves, loves drama.

Fans slam their fists on bars and claim they hate drama, but no, fans love drama. Nothing gets eyeballs to the NFL like drama.

The ball-fondling in New England? Perfect timing. Perfect! (more…)

2014 Draft Grade Redo

Sunday, January 25th, 2015
Catching a football in his rookie year was more the exception rather than the norm for WR Robert Herron.

Catching a football in his rookie year was more the exception than the norm for WR Robert Herron.

Joe knows in the fast-food, drive-up, Twitter, instant-everything world we live in, fans cannot rest until they see a draft grade in the waning minutes of a team’s spring draft. Bucs fans are no different.

Joe always believes it is unfair to grade a draft until three years have passed. By that time, it is clear what a player is or can be. (more…)

Mike Evans Discusses Self, Draft

Saturday, January 24th, 2015
Bucs WR Mike Evans offers thoughts on who should win NFL "Rookie of the Year" and who the Bucs should draft at No. 1.

Mike Evans offers thoughts on who should win NFL “Rookie of the Year” and who the Bucs should draft at No. 1.

Just about the only bright spot at the Den of Depression, other than gawking at Bucs cheerleader Tricia Cusmano, was the play of rookie receiver Mike Evans.

The rest of the team? It was only slightly better than watching a Bucs fan in the men’s room heave up his tailgating brunch after throwing down too many not-so-cold-beers-turned-warm, compounded by witnessing Josh McCown’s garish turnovers. That’s a toxic blend. (more…)
