The Mysterious O-Line Priority

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

lovie 0322Thank goodness nobody asked Joe to wager on whether the Bucs would add an offensive lineman before the NFL Draft.

Joe would have lost big money betting on Tampa Bay to have at least signed one body, such as a second- or third-wave-of-free-agency veteran for depth. (more…)

The Perils Of The Draft

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Joe was amused by a recent article that tried to paint the picture of the perils of drafting quarterbacks in the first round.

Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times accurately documented how quarterbacks drafted in the first round are 50/50 bets. That’s very true. (more…)

Already Working To Trade Up?

Will Jason Licht be involved in high stakes poker tomorrow night?

Will Jason Licht be involved in high stakes poker tomorrow night?

Joe hopes this is the last time he ever references the trade down crowd for the 2015 draft. It is such an onerous concept (this year), Joe wants to yack all over his keyboard.

Trading up, however, is a different concept altogether.

No, the Bucs cannot trade up from the top overall pick. But they can trade into the first round from their current position at No. 34, their pick in the second round. (more…)

How could any sane person want bratty Jay Cutler over Jameis Winston?

How could any sane person want bratty Jay Cutler over Jameis Winston?

Speechless last night, Joe didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Someone had Twittered Joe that the Bucs ought to trade down for bratty Jay Cutler.

Cutler, who was benched last year, is on the cusp of being drummed out of the league. And the Bucs are supposed to throw away a shot at a franchise quarterback for the next 10-15 years for a guy that might be out of football soon? (facepalm) (more…)

Nervous Times For Trade Down Crowd

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

nervousJoe doesn’t get it. Just cannot comprehend it. The Bucs, a team in dire need of a stellar quarterback, have the rare, rare, rare opportunity to choose their pick-of-the-litter quarterback.

But a segment of misguided Bucs fans wants to throw this hard-earned chance away for reasons that simply don’t add up. (more…)

Bucs captains spoke today

It’s painful to write. The Bucs’ record speaks volumes. Barring a trade, good teams don’t have the first selection in the draft.

Tampa Bay was 2-14 last year and is 30-70 in its last 100 games. The Bucs haven’t won a playoff game in going on 13 years. (more…)

NFL Network's Charlie Casserly got bent when asked an unrehearsed Bucs question yesterday.

NFL Network’s Charley Casserly got bent when asked an unrehearsed Bucs question yesterday.

Here is a window into modern media, and specifically into TV sports, thanks indirectly to the Bucs.

You may have heard passing references to TV news and roundtable shows having production meetings. That is when key participants review discussion topics, so when the show goes live everyone is not only on the same page, but no one is blindsided and gives a stupid answer. (more…)
