“Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

Seahawks DC Dan Quinn, believed to be the new Dixie Chicks coach, is mobbed by reporters yesterday at Super Bowl media day.
In some ways, interviewing a subject is like a boxing match. No, there are no punches thrown (usually), but a subject often tries to rope-a-dope and dodge questions with empty or evasive answers.
The reporter tries to work the subject into a corner to deliver a question the subject cannot dodge.
That was the case yesterday when Joe interviewed soon-to-be Dixie Chicks coach Dan Quinn. [read more]

A national NFL analyst revisits his breakdown of Bucs first round pick Mike Evans prior to the 2014 draft.
Joe has been fortunate to talk annually to scouts and NFL types about the draft. One doesn’t need such access to understand how the draft is such an inexact science.
Even a drunk in a bar can tell if a general manager bats .500 in the draft; folks in Canton are polishing a bust for the man. [read more]

Former Bucs DE Michael Bennett — who the Bucs let go for no good reason — answers questions at Super Bowl Media Day Tuesday.
Of all the former Buccaneers — and players with Bucs connections — in Sunday’s Super Bowl, Joe wanted most to talk to former Bucs defensive end Michael Bennett.
Now starring for the Seahawks, Bennett, who the Bucs let walk away for no good reason, is now playing in his second Super Bowl in as many years.
Reminding Bucs fans of this all-time colossal personnel error is enough to make Bucs fans so mental, they want to go outside and start throwing rocks at cars. [read more]

Former NFL safety and current NBC Sports analyst Rodney Harrison blasted Dashon Goldson.
Among the many NFL national media types and former NFL players Joe talked to yesterday – over 30 at last count – was former Chargers and Patriots safety Rodney Harrison.
The NBC Sunday Night Football analyst will, of course, be part of the Peacock Network’s hosting of pregame and postgame talent Sunday. And Harrison loves to talk defense, including safety play. [read more]

Bucs quarterback play was so awful, not even Josh McCown could watch.
The poor Bucs fans who threw out hundreds (thousands?) of dollars this year to watch dreck perceived to be an NFL team are appalled at what became of their Bucs. Joe can totally understand.
Hell, Joe was watching Bucs games for fun and work, and even they were painful. The play of turnover-prone Josh McCown was so awful, Bucs fans wanted to rinse their eyes out with battery acid. [read more]

So Joe is in the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix, for Super Bowl Media Day, and week actually. Joe is going to spend a couple of extra days.
Last night, after Joe flew in, picked up credentials, talked to a few old media friends like Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Howard Balzer of SiriusXM NFL Radio, and got a feel for the lay of the land, a long day of travel was coming to an end. Nourishment was in order. Read: A burger and a craft beer. [read more]

Bucs great Ronde Barber believes the near future is bright.
Joe admires former Bucs cornerback Ronde Barber. How could you not? The future (hopefully) Hall of Famer did everything the right way and, as a broadcaster, doesn’t often pull punches.
However, in a piece broadcast last night on Sunday Sports Extra with Barber talking to local raconteur Dan Lucas, Barber not only pulled punches, but seemed to wrap himself in a straight jacket when discussing the Bucs. [read more]

Bucs fans are doing way too much reading between the lines to figure out the future.

Spreadsheeters were not overly impressed with Bucs OLB Lavonte David in 2014.
Joe brought word last week that stud outside linebacker Lavonte David was trying to get both his name and likeness out there for deserved recognition.
In fact, David is going to the Valley of the Sun this week to press flesh with NFL movers and shakers, and likely take a trip through radio row, and the makeshift studios of the NFL Network, Fox Sports 1 and BSPN, as well. [read more]

Seahawks DE Michael Bennett — who the Bucs let walk away for no good reason — ride’s a cop’s bike in glee after defeating the Packers in the NFC title game last week. Joe hopes to talk to him tomorrow.
As you are reading this here corner of the interwebs, Joe is en route to Tampa International Airport where he will board a plane for the Valley of the Sun and Phoenix, as Joe makes his annual trip to Super Bowl Media Day.
