New Bucs G Kadeem Edwards.
The Bucs finally picked a guard. And he happens to be from Florida.
Kadeem Edwards from Tennessee State is your new Bucs guard. Originally from Samford, Fla., Edwards is a monster at 6-4, 313, though he’s been knocked for carrying excess weight.
Below is the NFL.com breakdown on Edwards. (more…)

So the NFL Draft resumes at noon with the beginning of the fourth round, a round in which the Bucs (as Joe is typing this late Saturday morning) do not have a pick.
The first pick scheduled for the Bucs this afternoon is No. 143 in the fifth round, which should be some time after 1 p.m. (more…)

A lot of Bucs fans seemed to raise more than an eyebrow last night when the Bucs drafted Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. His selection gave the Bucs seven tight ends.
Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht both claimed that ASJ was so high on their boards when the Bucs were on the clock, they couldn’t pass him up. (more…)

Lovie talks third round pick Charles Sims.
Bucs coach and overall shot-caller Lovie Smith was unavailable for media last night after the Bucs selected running back Charles Sims… except to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com.
Many Bucs fans scratched their heads (or scratched something else later last night, Joe doesn’t want to get specific) over the Bucs drafting a running back despite having one of the deepest stables of backs in the NFL. (more…)

So the Bucs have new weapons and toys on offense for starting quarterback Mike Glennon Josh McCown to play with. Bucs general manager Jason Licht explained that both Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Charles Sims were too high up their draft board to pass when their respective picks were made. (more…)

Don’t you dare accuse Lovie Smith and Jason Licht of coming to the NFL Draft expressly to try and fill needs.
These guys don’t roll that way. (more…)

“Just coach’em up, Greg. Enough with the linguini length.”
As it stands now after free agency and three rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft (the Bucs have no fourth-round pick), Tampa Bay likely will have only three new starters on defense: Alterraun Verner, Clinton McDonald and Michael Johnson.
That’s the equivalent of Lovie Smith grabbing a bullhorn and telling the world Greg Schiano didn’t know how to coach defense. (more…)

Bucs GM Jason Licht explains Friday’s draft picks.
A giddy Bucs general manager Jason Licht took the podium at One Buc Palace after the team’s second draft pick tonight to explain himself.
The two positions on offense where the Bucs did not need an upgrade, did not have any holes, were tight end and running back. (more…)

Bucs GM Jason Licht said new RB Charles Sims of West Virginia had the best receiving hands of any running back in the draft.
Joe had heard about the speed-in-space mantra of new offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford. It seems we have a better idea now of what that may entail.
The third-round pick of the Bucs this evening, running back Charles Sims of West Virginia is that. Bucs general manager Jason Licht said the Bucs rated Sims as having the best receiving hands of any running back in the draft. (more…)

Raise your beer if you thought the Bucs would walk away from the first two days of the NFL Draft with a shiny new running back and no new offensive lineman?
(Yeah the Bucs could still trade back up into the third round, but time is ticking away quickly.) (more…)

Here we go folks. The 2014 NFL draft resumes shortly. What will the Bucs do? Will they add another receiver (smart) or decide to take care of the offensive line, which is begging for bodies at guard, or, dare Joe say, Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford reunites with his long-time friend Derek Carr? (more…)

New Bucs TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins lit up Jeff Tedford’s Cal teams.
If the Bucs wanted athletes, then they sure are getting them. Basketball types in fact.
Yesterday, the Bucs selected wide receiver Mike Evans, who turned down a basketball scholarship to the University of Texas. Tonight, the Bucs got another hoops head, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins from the University of Washington, where he also played basketball. (more…)

A focus of the new Bucs offensive coordinator offers insight into the drafting of a tight end tonight
Shortly after the Bucs hired offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford, Joe delivered the scoop of how Tedford went to New England to study offense under Bill Belicheat and Josh McDaniels.
Tedford came back to his head coaching gig at “Cal” a changed man. (more…)

Though Joe has read and heard bad things about how much Bucs second round pick Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ numbers have fallen off, Joe notices consistency.
Seferian-Jenkins saw his number of catches drop the past season from 69 catches in 2012, to 41 last season. It could be that Washington had garbage for quarterbacks. (more…)

Now this has Joe totally stunned. After grabbing a tight end in free agency and already having one of the better tight ends in the NFL (look it up) in Tim Wright, a position not even close to a need, the Bucs draft a tight end/basketball player Austin Seferian-Jenkins of Washington. (more…)

Record viewers for the NFL draft last night all but ensures the May draft is locked in stone.
Joe knows NFL fans, Bucs fans in particular, absolutely hated the draft being pushed back to May. Loathed it. Made them grit their teeth until the enamel was worn off.
Joe didn’t like it much either, and felt Bucs fans’ pain. The mock draft industrial complex is way out of hand, especially so with extra time for nimble fingers to tap on a keyboard. (more…)
