Wake Up Call For Bucs

September 25th, 2023

Licking wounds.

Joe hopes Monday night’s beatdown jars the Bucs awake.

One good thing about an old-fashioned woodshedding, your weaknesses stick out like a sore thumb. And boy, did the Bucs have sore thumbs Monday night.

It started in the trenches. Joe knew the Eagles had very good offensive and defensive lines. But damn if the Bucs didn’t get manhandled. Both sides of the ball.

The Bucs always talk about how they want to run the ball. Talk is cheap if you don’t have the horses. If the Bucs want to continue to run the ball, they better start finding answers in a hurry.

Why is that? What do you think the slimy Saints will do Sunday on a short week for the Bucs? Joe has $10 that says the slimy Saints just might run the ball 35 times.

Joe can just see Dennis Allen, the slimy Saints coach, working rosaries and voodoo chants this week hoping upon hope not only do the Bucs continue to con themselves that Rachaad White is a No. 1 back, but the Bucs continue to hand him the ball 15 times a game or more.

One thing about the NFL, it’s a copycat league. When the league sees a team get dominated like the Bucs were tonight, you can bank on it that the next game the opponent will try to replicate exactly what the Eagles did.

Until the Bucs demonstrate again they can run the ball effectively and can control the line of scrimmage on defense, why would any team think they will?

Simply put, the Eagles are not the Bears.

The loss stinks. But Bucs coaches will have plenty to work on this week to keep a winning record.

After all, it looks like it is Jaboo time in the Big Easy.

    1. I’m out on R White. I gave him a pass for last year but he’s Rojas v2.
    2. Enough with the small school OL. Time to get big boys who can maul.
    3. Evans lost money tonight. No one else will say it but he put us behind. Different game if he catches the ball in the 1st half.

The Hainsey experiment at center should be over.

The line hasn’t been the same since Jensen went down.

The Bucs need a new anchor in the middle.

  4. Mike S Says:

Don’t forget Baker had 80 yards passing through 3 quarters with 52% comp and threw a bad INT in Philly territory while the game was still 10-3.

Now Buc fans are realizing we could become 2-2 very quickly if our defense does not heal up quick. Even with Jay-miss playing next week.

  7. Oxycondomns Says:

Are there any players on the bucs that show up in a suit? Mnf showed evans in a basketball jersey and baker in a ronde jersey. Hard to criticize when im not sure how majority of nfl show up but i wish it was more of a business like approach

  8. I remember 21 Says:

Agree with SlyPirate, stop trying to be too cute by half with these small school or D2/3 lineman and start getting some hosses from Alabama, Georgia etc. That’s fine for filling out the roster or backups, but stop expecting all these players (too many to name) to take leaps. As if everyone just gets better once they reach the NFL. Usually it’s the opposite.

  9. Oxycondomns Says:

By the way both those players played the way they dressed

    Trade for Breece Hall.

  12. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Baker got exposed. That’s the truth.

  13. Jerry Says:

Bucs haven’t been able to run the ball for years. That’s not something the Eagles just exposed. Troy Aikman said it in the pre-game that the Bucs can’t run the ball. Tom Brady was passing 50-60 times a game because we can’t run the ball.

Year after year the front office refuses to address the RB position. It’s never a priority. And the OL is built for pass protection, not run blocking.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

“The Bucs always talk about how they want to run the ball.”

Thus the problem. It’s 2023, instead of meeting some stupid run quota, how about you focus the offense on scoring points.

Wasting downs fruitlessly running up the gut for no gain does what exactly, other than cost the team points?

Morons talking about the RBs as if they’re they’re problem, when they’re being hit 3 yards behind the LOS on every other play … just shows the fans are no smarter than the idiot coach thinking it’s 1972 and you win by running the ball. Chicago ran the ball better than anyone last year and had the #1 pick in the draft. That says it all.

  15. HC Grover Says:

It should jar the Bakermaniacs and overenthused fans awake. We are a middleweight and Eagles Heavyweight. Now we gotta whip the Stainks to make up for this game.

  16. MiamiBuc Says:

Bucs had the worst running attack in the NFL last season – 2.8 yards per carry – nothing new.

  17. Voice of Truth Says:

We learned that the Bears and Vikes are powderpuff teams

Are we to be happy as a middling loser????

    You know, Todd Bowles

  18. Pewter Power Says:

Yea teams will try to replicate the eagles is very few have front the eagles have. Nobody is scared of the saints. Maybe they’ll come out angry. They really needed Kancey for pass rush

  19. Ed Says:

Not impressed with the runs up the middle when Eagle DT’s were physically throwing the interior blockers around.

White is a very bad starting running back. He wouldn’t even be on the Eagles practice squad.

Buc brass needs to show some balls and move on from their busts and cut their losses. JTS is really outmatched physically and mentally in terms of his desire to engage the contact and fight through it. White can be easily beaten out by some other team’s practice squad backs.

Hainsey is a very weak center, another backup forced into starting lineup because of a lack of competition in the line depth.

The only way the Bucs will score points is to get the ball to Godwin more, keep targeting Evans and use their speedy #3. Thompkins has shown nothing as a WR. Godwin under utilized.

  20. LANshark Says:

Palmer was mysteriously absent most of the game – not sure why – will have to go look at film. But Thomkins, Otten, and Evans all had horrible drops.. which cost us a TD, several first downs that would have kept drives alive, and at least 150 yards. But sure, it’s the QB’s fault. Oh, and he was running for his life most of the game….

  21. larrd Says:

A disappointing game but I didn’t get the feeling that the Bucs were that far off the Eagles level. The OL will get better and better and that was probably one of the best two or three DLs in the NFL. Two more interceptions for the D.

  22. Bucs96NYC Says:

Eagles are a top 5 team in the league. We knew that going in & we knew we weren’t. I actually thought we played pretty OK in the 1st half on defense. If the offense helped out a little bit then we would’ve been OK. Trying to run to setup the pass has to flip @ certain times. Going in we knew it would be tough so we should’ve did the opposite.

  23. 1#bucsfan Says:

Ron JOE keeps pushing that’s it’s not the Oline. Yea yea we heard Brady was the least sacked QB last year but threw the most passes. You don’t do that with a poor oline well JOE Only because he threw the ball in about 2 secs or less. He didn’t want to get hit so he threw it away or checked down. The reason we couldn’t run the ball last year wasn’t just leftwhich fault. The oline can not run block. They are better at pass blocking. Way better but when it comes to mailing people and opening up lanes the suck. RW1 was repeatedly hit behind the line of scrimmage. The few times tucker came in same or he ran into his own line cause there were no holes. Put any RB back there and I don’t do much better. We are not a physical team JOE and the eagles showed us that.
