Todd Bowles With The One-Liner Of The Night

September 25th, 2023

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

While Monday’s loss to the Eagles was a real kick in the balls, Joe is glad that Bucs coach Todd Bowles hasn’t lost full perspective.

As Joe pointed out earlier this evening, the Bucs still have a winning record at 2-1. The Bucs are still in first place in the NFC South. The Bucs can still make the playoffs. The world hasn’t crumbled.

Why does Joe think Bowles isn’t ready to jump off the Skyway Bridge? The way he answered a question in his otherwise somber postgame press conference.

Bowles was asked what he saw in his team’s run game against the Eagles. Bowles answer was quick and to the point.

“We didn’t have one.”

[Rim shot!]

Bowles wasn’t wrong!

Joe was glad Bawles had levity about him. Put this game to rest. It’s something to build on. The Eagles flushed out a lot of Bucs ills. Coaches can no longer gloss over weaknesses and pretend they are strengths (Joe is looking at you, Rachaad White and you too Joe Tryon-Shoyinka).

In short, the Eagles exposed the Bucs.

We needs a shake up in the running game. This isn’t working.

  2. Kansas95Bucs Says:

    We need more quick passes

  3. Mike Johnson Says:

No pity in the NFL. On to the Saints. Lets get our Defense healed up. Because if we play D against the Saints like we did tonight? Jay-miss is going to look like all world FSU again. Philly showed us where we need to or aspire to be. They actually left 21 pts on the field. Be ready Sunday Bucs.

  4. Mike S Says:

    Baker 10-19 87 yards 1 INT through 3 QTRs

That INT came 10-3 in Eagles territory

    Don’t gloss over that either.

  5. Steelers fan Says:

What about the pass game? 80 yards through 3 Q’s

    Get real here

  6. RagingBrisket Says:

R White, JTS and the putrid OLINE which is also conveniently glossed over around these parts! Admit what we all saw, the oline was an absolute liability on the field tonight.

  7. Zoocomics Says:

I’m fine with the result to tonight, Eagles were the better team
Die multiple reasons, and we’re still figuring out some things…

but tell me why, why in the frack do teams run when the ball is place in their own 1 yard line, especially when we’ve barely have had any push from our line?

  8. Jack Clark Says:

Todd Bowles wants to have a run first offense when he can’t even fix the run blocking. And it’s hard for our running backs to gain any yards when they’re getting hit before they can even pass the line of scrimmage. Baker Mayfield needs to get rid of the ball in 2.7 seconds and Mike Evans needs to stop dropping passes. Those are all problems that can be fixed in our next game

  9. Mike S Says:

80 YARDS PASSING THROUGH 3 QUARTERS

  10. Steelers fan Says:

Someone needs to ask Blowes ” What is your assessment of Baker tonight” How about that question? Got any balls?

  11. Capt Kidd Says:

That stupid run up the gut for a safety told Mr this coaching staff is done. Just stupid!

  12. It's Corn Says:

Did the Buccaneers try even one screen pass? That’s how you counter an over-aggressive rush, Sgt. Canales.

2-1? With two wins against winless teams? Hmm.

Reminds me of “I want the people to know, that they still have two of three branches of the government working for them, and that ain’t bad.” (Mars Attacks)

  13. Tucker Says:

The defense held it close for long enough and provided opportunities, but the offense just didn’t capitalize on them. To win against good teams, you have to. You can tell Canales is new at this with the playcalling, but there were also missed opportunities due to too many mistakes. You cannot fumble the ball against good teams and expect to win. Mike, you have to catch that touchdown, dawg! Go Bucs.

  14. Mike S Says:

This team is going to get smoked in N.O.

  15. TonySoprano Says:

I wouldn’t exactly being giving kudos to Bowles just yet. Let’s wait for him to actually make changes to three weaknesses before giving him any credit for identifying them. There have been many things that I thought were obvious/common sense about this team that Toad has seemingly overlooked.

Some blame also needs to be shifted to Licht. He has invested heavily in the oline and doesn’t have much to show for it. Same goes for 2 3rd round picks on RBs that look unplayable at this point.

  16. RichieRich Says:

Idiots talking about the passing game 1 Evans dropped 3 passes including a TD. 2nd the running game was nonexistent the passing game is predicated on having some sort of running game. Baker threw his first interception of the year so yeah go ahead and bench him freaking morons.
This score would be exactly the same even if Tom Brady was the quarterback… again morons.

  17. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist and Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

I give Baker somewhat of a pass on that pick since it was in a downpour at the time.

Mike Evans drops hurt as bad or worse than that pick.

And Dave Canales’ playcalling was the worst aspect of the offense all night.

This needs to be a learning experience for everyone on what NOT to do in an NFL game if you want to win.

  18. RichieRich Says:

The worst call of night was the the run up the middle at the one yard line!!!!! This actually sealed the game for the Eagles

  19. Mike S Says:

RichieRich yeah that was pretty bad. Seen some playcalls in my time, but wow.

  20. Frank Pillow Says:

The entire team was flat. No intensity. Zero passion. No desire to punch above their weight. They had all the fight of a sea sponge.

  21. Mike S Says:

Erik Hesson 80 yards through 3 quarters 52% comp 1 INT. Baker sucks.

  22. Destinjohnny Says:

When vandy gets smoked by bama do they blame the coaching?
No because everyone knows its a lack of talent
You wanna be bummed at someone>> Blame the GM

  23. Tucker Says:

The fact that the eagle chant was so loud at home was demoralizing, on top of it, the Buc fan attendance is terrible.

  24. Mike S Says:

Destinjohnny Philly did draft some behemoths for their lines – the LT is what 6’8″ 375?

    Pretty ridiculous.

They keep drafting DL from Georgia – that’s worked out for them.

Licht drafted perfectly for BA’s system.

I think the Bucs need a new center. Hainsey doesn’t have leverage.

They had a decent running game with Jensen – when he went down changed the line’s makeup entirely.

Eventually I think you need to go with Mauch at C.

  25. Mike S Says:

Tucker its all that love for Baker Mayfield. Its really bringing the hometown fans out.

  26. gp Says:

Bowles was asked what he saw in his team’s run game against the Eagles. Bowles answer was quick and to the point.

    “We didn’t have one.”
    ***********************************************************
Bowles (should have been asked) “what was the game plan”?

    answer:
    “We didn’t have one.”

  27. Ana Mathias Says:

Mayfield is not the answer to any question, Ryan Leaf , anyone🤔1st rounder, Tom Brady, anyone, 199

  28. Ricki Says:

Baker is Baker and tonight it was not his fault. What about Lines? What about Mike Evans drops, Otton drops, both whites?

  29. Steelers fan Says:

    Mac Jones vrs Egals 35/54 316yds 3td 1int

    Kirk Cousins 31/44 364yds 4td

    Baker Mayfield 15/25 146yds 1td 1int

The egals were dead last vrs qbs coming into the game and #1 vrs the run.

  30. Ana Mathias Says:

Mayfield is not the answer to any question🤔

  31. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist and Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Idk what the gameplans were, but the attitude/sentiment that Todd Bowles instilled in his team before the game was ‘it’s not the end of the world if we lose this game’….

Where’s the killer instinct? Where’s the fire/competitive spirit?

You think a legendary competitor like say Brady would go into a game with that weak loser mentality?

    Weak sauce, HC

  32. Matt Says:

It’s hard to have a run game when nobody respects the pass game

  33. Buddha Says:

If you think Baker was the problem tonight, then you weren’t watching the game. The Eagles ran 70+plays. 13 dropped a sure touchdown that would have tied the game. We played most of the game without our starting corners, our best pash rusher, añd a hobbling linebacker. Baker was running for his life and the play calling sucked.

  34. unbelievable Says:

For everyone saying “our 2 wins came against teams with losing records”…

The only team with a winning record the Eagles have beaten… is us.

    Everyone calm down.

  35. Proudbucsfan Says:

I don’t understand why we don’t attack the edges ? No right or left half back pitches, we only run behind center and Hainsey is not strong enough to get any push. I’ll give Mauch the benefit of the doubt because he’s a rookie and he will get stronger. White is slow he has no burst it looks like he is in slow motion after he receives the hand off. I think we need a new center and halfback. Maybe install a fullback in the offense.

  36. StormyInFl Says:

Todd… you haven’t had a running game yet, because the offensive line, especially the middle where you seem hell bent to run it, sucks. Hainsey is probably the worst starting center in the league, Mauch is a rookie and Feiler is a journeyman, at best.

  37. unbelievable Says:

Agree with everyone about Hainsey… he ain’t it.

I also think we had too many flat out predictable run plays in so-called “unexpected places” (3rd and longs, on our own 1 yard line, etc.)… except they were totally expected… by the Eagles and by anyone with a brain and who had watched more then 2 min of the Bucs this year.

    That’s just poor decision making.

Add in a couple drops, a couple bad throws and an INT, and a few defensive lapses, and suddenly you’re down 20-3. This team isn’t built for that. At least not yet. But they do have the talent. They need more work.

And injuries are quickly piling up.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Literally the NFL’s best run defense…

That’s not my opinion, that’s the stats.

Only a f-ing moron would decide tonight is the night you’d decide to ‘establish’ the run.

  39. BucU Says:

We have inferior coaches and inferior players.
What outcome should we have expected?

  40. Voice of Truth Says:

We have Todd Bowes and Baker Mayfield – the darlings of the losers club

Enough said – the media wasn’t crazy, you rose colored glasses fans are

This is a bad, bad football team that was exposed for the posers they are

Well on our way to six wins max

  41. Pewter Power Says:

There is something to build on? Hainsey is not going to do it. He got tossed Sterling the whole game

  42. rrsrq Says:

I’m calling out J Licht for trying to go to the small school well to many times for offensive lineman, hit the lottery with Marpet, hit a scratch off with Cappa, at some point you have to go with players who have played big time college football and beat the best. The senior bowl is made up of players who didn’t leave college early because they probably couldn’t (not all but some). There are guys in the SEC that are used to road grading for running backs…. Go get them

  43. Davenport Says:

Bowles is what his record says he is … a loser.

Everyone was sucked in by two wins against bad teams. We’re back to reality, folks

  44. BA’s Red Pen Says:

All you fake Buc fans will be right back on the Band Wagon once Jameis throws us two pick 6’s next week.

  45. Reality_Check Says:

Hey Mike S. If Evans could catch a ball those passing numbers wouldn’t be as abysmal. But sure, blame it on Mayfield

  46. Arn platz Says:

Sure, let’s run the ball against the number one run defense in the league. I just don’t understand Bowles.

  47. larrd Says:

I liked how Aikman and Joe Buck praised Bowles’ smarts by noting that he was a year two starter as a DB way back when.

    Say what?

    LOL!

  48. Rich Says:

I hate to write this but Evans best days are behind him.The Bucs would be crazy to give him an new contract at 25M a yr.
