Report Of Tom Brady’s Thick Red Pen Usage

December 12th, 2022

“Julio, I fixed that red zone package for you.”

This has long been a debate on The Ira Kaufman Podcast.

One Joe has insisted that Tom Brady deserves significant blame for the Bucs’ offense because he’s Tom Brady minus overlord Bucco Bruce Arians.

So logic says Brady has a heavy hand in the offense and is calling plenty of shots.

The other Joe and Sage Ira put the massive share of the problems on playcaller Byron Leftwich.

Michael Silver, perhaps best known for his deep-state-source kind of work on NFL.com and NFL Network, writes for the San Francisco Chronicle and dropped this gem after the Bucs-49ers game yesterday.

The level of responsibility that Brady imposes upon himself has always been massive, and this year, he’s taxed to the max. One example: On the night before each game, Brady runs a separate meeting with the Bucs’ skill players during which he goes over the gameplan, makes tweaks to assignments and formations and provides a revised blueprint — one which first-year head coach Todd Bowles, offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and the rest of the staff are left to discover in real time once the game begins. (Transcription via USA Today.)

How’s that for a red pen! (For those unfamiliar with the red pen reference, you can catch up here.)

Knowing how Silver operates, Joe strongly suggests Silver is getting this information from a Buccaneers employee rather than an agent or a hotel worker cleaning a bathroom stall and overhearing something.

If Tom Brady is playing offensive coordinator, maybe that’ll make him more likely to come back to the Bucs next season versus playing elsewhere. Nowhere else would he be allowed that much freedom.

  1. Rod Munch Says:

In other words, Leftwich or his camp, is trying to pin this awful offense on Tom Brady, claiming that Brady is making changes in game and if he’d stop doing it, the 15th straight run up the middle would have worked.

  2. zzbuc Says:

    Thanks GOD!!!

Finally somebody says the things as they are!!!!

This offense has TB12 fingerprints all over!!!

I love TB12 and always will, but the truth is the truth

  3. Bucsfan13 Says:

He’s getting this from BA. Follow the scent. Look up Silver’s previous reports on the Bucs. It was BA ragging on Brady. They’re throwing under the bus. The report seems sketchy, and makes it seem like Tom is some tyrant. There is no way I would let these coaches keep throwing me under the bus. Brady will definitely be in Romo’s ear during the production meeting for the next game.

  4. HC Grover Says:

Munch nails it. The Blame Brady Game is on by the disgusting Clown Show.

  5. tampabuscsbro Says:

I’m curious if the Joe that wants Brady to get a significant chunk of the blame is the same Joe that was adamant letting america’s QB pro bowler Jameis Winston go would be the biggest mistake the bucs could ever make at the time?

  6. tampabuscsbro Says:

Also if this is mainly Brady’s fault why do we run such little play action and why is it suddenly the offense actually works in 5 minute hurry up situations sometimes?

  7. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Why didn’t we get to see Trask yesterday?

  8. Caleb Says:

Sounds like BS leaked from BA to try to defend his boys. What a bunch of nonsense.

  9. Bucsfan13 Says:

@RodMunch. Bingo! Totally scapegoating him for the offensive struggles. So Leftwich was totally left in the dark?! I don’t buy it. Fight back, Tommy! I know he won’t, but this is his last season. No way would I let these people paint me as a rogue agent. Aaron Rodgers would have put these coaches in their place on his show. No way would allow the coaches to just throw him under the bus without responding.

  10. BucsFanSince76 Says:

With the seriously below par Oline the Bucs have , playcalling doesn’t mean SPIT , because if you are getting manhandled at the point of attack-NOTHING WILL WORK-Thank Jason Licht for the current Oline talent or more like the lack thereof

  11. EA Says:

I would only want Brady on the bucs if the team is winning…..otherwise…….if they match this garbage next year , why would anybody care if Brady is playing for the bucs ??

  12. D-Rok Says:

If what Silver is insinuating is true, then Brady has already committed mutiny, and the coaches allow it cuz he’s Tom Freakin’ Brady.

I’ve operated all year under the premise that BL was the one drawing up the plan and calling the plays. To suggest that Brady is the one designing such a horrid plan makes zero sense given his previous 22-year history.

Not sure if I give this story much credence.

All I do know for sure is that this team is terrible, from top to bottom. It’s sad, really.

  13. BA’s Red Pen Says:

He’s not playing here next year.

  14. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I find it hard to believe that Brady is acting as a shadow offensive coordinator creating his offensive game plans behind Leftwich’s back. That does not sound like Brady. I agree with Munch that it is possible the Bucs are leaking information to deflect blame away from Bowles and Leftwich. Arians in particular is invested in the success of Bowles and Leftwich, so this explanation makes sense. If, however, the report is true, Bowles has lost control of the ship. As a coach (or any type of leader), when you have players undermining you, you’ve lost all legitimacy as a leader. Whether or not Bowles deserves all the blame is irrelevant. Right now it appears that Bowles has lost the respect of the locker room…or at least that of his quarterback.

  15. ElioT Says:

Yeah there is something fishy going on behind the scenes.

I think I’ll give the GOAT the benefit of the doubt over the leagues worst OC who know’s he’s lost any respect as a play-caller yet alone any chance of ever being considered for a HC job.

Bryon is a complete hack and everyone knows it.

  16. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Trask? That’s hilarious. Conte and Piscatelli were both terrible players. Was Glennon Mckown already taken?

  17. orlbucfan Says:

Brady’s brain is hurt too by ego and encroaching senility.

  18. BOAT Says:

This so incredibly obviously coming from the Bucs’ coaches. They know they are in enormous danger of getting fired, so now they will try to shift the blame to Brady.

There is zero chance that this is true – no way in hell would any coaches ever allow something like that.

  19. ElioT Says:

Never in a million years would I have thought the winning culture built here would be destroyed so quickly.

Back to complete irrelevancy in less than a year.

Great work Bowels & Byron the Bozo.

    #Lichtmyb*lls

  20. sasquatch Says:

This is a sad state of affairs. That say quite a bit about his (lack of) respect for Lefty or Bowles. If this is true, it’s no wonder the offense is out of sync — they have 2 different guys trying to control the offense and no trust.

Brady is gone. Barring a Brady-approved HC hired to replace Bowles and a strong OC he respects, he is playing anywhere but here.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

    OrlandoBucFan Says:
I agree with Munch that it is possible the Bucs are leaking information to deflect blame away from Bowles and Leftwich.

    ———-

That’s not at all what I’m saying. I’m saying Leftwich is the one leaking to deflect from himself. I don’t believe for a season Bowles wants Leftwich here, but Bowles is not a real head coach and has no power to do anything about this.

In fact it could even be Arians saying this as a way to protect his project, that being Leftwich. Arians, when he came back to coaching, said he was only coming back to setup Leftwich and Bowles to be future headcoaches. If he quits on Leftwich now, then he failed in his comeback.

As for the Bucs and Bowles, I think they’d have popped champagne bottles had Leftwich actually taken that Jags job this offseason, since Arians then completed his mission, and the Bucs know that Leftwich is a complete dullard – plus the Bucs would have gotten an extra 3rd round pick out of it.

  22. Tucker Says:

Whatever is true or not this team has become so dysfunctional it’s just sad to see. This is what losing does to a team it just looks like a mess from the top to the bottom.

  23. Kentucky Buc Says:

Why is Brady looking at the bench like what the funk are you doing. Oh I believe Brady is having meetings as he’s done before but when the play calls come in and personnel and sets are coming from the bench. If not then why did Brady have to ask for White to be put in against the Saints. It doesn’t matter what Brady and the O works on. The B and B boys are making the game calls. It’s obvious if you actually watch the game. This is some of BAs bull shart. You can smell it a mile away.

  24. D-Rome Says:

Spot on Rod. If this is truly a sourced story instead of a reporter throwing things on a wall hoping something will stick then this has to be coming from Leftwich, Arians, or someone else in house who is on the coaches side.

  25. SPARKY Says:

I would believe Brady is scripting the first series. But Brady checks his wrist band before almost every play tells me Leftwich is telling him what to run. What I don’t understand is that Brady hardly ever seems to audible out of plays. Seems when he was with New England he was changing the play at the line of scrimmage a lot.

    ——–

Exactly, well said. Brady and Arians can try to help out Leftwich as much as they want, but in game, it’s Leftwich who is blowing everything up with his ultra predictable and stupid play calling.

The one bid downside of Brady is that he came from excellent coaching, he’s never had to question his coaching, he was a robot that was put in place to run a scheme to perfection. This is the first time in his career where he’s seeing the old saying come true, ‘garbage in, garbage out’. Not even Brady can overcome the incompetence that is Leftwich.

  27. Waterboy Says:

I believe it. That’s why you’re seeing all of the New England dink and dunks and screens.

  28. Pewter Power Says:

That’s unheard of, it shows such a level of desperation I didn’t realize. Is this why BA gave away cushy job, Brady wanted more control that he’d give

  29. SufferingSince76 Says:

I’m calling BS. Brady has an impeccable body of work. The two clowns coaching do not. No way BL was the mastermind behind last two seasons. In addition, he’s a jerk.

  30. Redeemer Says:

This is embarrassing. They won’t throw themselves under the bus, so whoever leaked this garbage is blaming Brady? Forget the fact they can’t run, and can’t get open. I don’t believe this BS for one second. At least not the way it’s being portrayed.

Most QBs go over the gameplan and pick what they like. You work on it in practice. If it doesn’t work in practice, typically it’s not used in the game. That was true when Brady was in NE, and it’s true now. All 11 guys would need to be in on this shadow offense. It’s also not in Brady’s nature.

  31. Stanglassman Says:

This is exactly what Bucs fans are calling for. Now that we know this is what’s already happening maybe the fans will stop placing all the blame on BL but I doubt it.

  32. tbbucs3 Says:

“I’m saying Leftwich is the one leaking to deflect from himself”

Complete nonsense, Leftwhich is not leaking information to make himself look better the day before a game

  33. Manny Says:

Brady runs a separate meeting with the Bucs’ skill players during which he goes over the gameplan: ya u have to have skill to be a skill player and this team doesnt really have any left besides tb12, wirfs, godwin and winfield

  34. ATLBucsFan Says:

All the dinks, dunks and screens are because the line play is below average. It’s all the time we have in setting up the play called. So those are the plays called. Long plays are extremely rare.

  35. Frank Pillow Says:

    Sounds perfectly dysfunctional

  36. BOAT Says:

It’s amazing that any fans would actually believe this…….

  37. Tap-Out Says:

Mike Evens needs 195 receiving yards over the next 5 gamesto get 1,000 yards receiving yards this year! ….that’s all that matters this season! …then Draft (SS396).

  38. FairMinded Says:

This can’t be true. If true then the inmates are running the asylum and the coaches have lost ALL control. If I was Byron or Bowles and I know Brady’s tinkering is possibly costing me my job, I would have put a stop to that after a game or two and pulled rank. So I DON’T think it’s true, and Byron is learning on the fly. If I’m wrong, then Brady, Bowles AND Leftwich have a lot of splainin to do

  39. FairMinded Says:

    Good observation Kentucky

  40. donuts Says:

You have to make it to the redzone first.

  41. Anonymous Says:

Maybe He’s only putting the red line though ME plays, being that they’ve been off the most on throws

  42. Glenn Williams Says:

And that explains why they’re not on the same page

  43. Buc1987 Says:

    Bring back BA please…

Just be like……..sorry guys it’s not working out.

  44. BucsfanFred Says:

I’m not buying this. Brady is not steering these guys to disobey the coaches. That would end their careers.

  45. Rob Singer Says:

Brady doesn’t need this clown show. He needs to get away from the noise and the useless, incompetent Tampa coaches and go somewhere decent next season.

His first year he showed his stuff with a good coach. Last year was ruined by a POS coach who thought he was a big shot defensive genius. And this year is what Affirmative Action hiring and promotion is all about.

Hell never say it so I will: Brady is too good for the current Tampa Bay organization.

  46. Mike Johnson Says:

O line had better Ruck up. Toms gonna be carted off against them Bengals. Thye comin….And they comin HARD.

  47. Jeffs Dad Says:

He sure does deserve some of the blame how many over throws and ball at the feet had he thrown this year hes part of the problem

  48. NEfan Says:

This is all senile BA’s doing to protect his boys. Someone is lying because Bowles specifically said in a presser this is BL’s offense NOT Brady’s and he was adamant about it.

Waterboy, this is no way a past NE offense, where is the FB? Where is the TE? Where is the different formations, motion? I will say the beginning of the 9ers game did look different but once Bucs got down the O went back to same Ole shat. This is ALL arsewipe BA going into protection mode.

  49. ModHairKen Says:

“In other words, Leftwich or his camp, is trying to pin this awful offense on Tom Brady, claiming that Brady is making changes in game and if he’d stop doing it, the 15th straight run up the middle would have worked.”

That right there should get Rod Munch in the Joe BucsFan Hall of Fame. Hilarious.

  50. ViSyl Says:

If I was a OC and Brady was my QB, I would just sit, relax and hand him the offense

    ——————————————————————————–

It might be a bit like the current Patriots offense, which is under a defensive coach no less, in Matt Patricia, but it’s not remotely anything at all like the Patriots offense under Josh McDaniels. When Brady was there, the offensive coordinator was McDaniels.

This Bucs offense is miles and miles different than the McDaniel’s offense was in New England. Like country miles different.

  52. NEfan Says:

If this is true BL should sing at the Emmy’s because no one could lip sync better.

  53. Oneilbuc Says:

Lol 🤣🤣 I all you Brady worshipers or mad 😡😡 because yall been blaming BL for Brady’s bad play on the field. Y’all kept saying Brady needs to call his own plays and give the offense to him and that’s exactly what they have been doing the whole year. Boat to you and the rest of the fake Patriots fans take your blinders off and realize that Brady is old and done . You can try and look for a scapegoat all you want but it what it is. I get y’all will never believe nothing negative about Brady and I’m glad that it’s been confirmed this Brady’s offense and he has been the problem with our offense now NEfan is going to lose his mind now lol 🤣🤣😆.

  54. Oneilbuc Says:

Visyl. That’s what they did this season and it ain’t working because Brady is 45 years old and that’s the problem with the offense.

  55. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

Go back and watch Vinny and Deberg play at the same me if their careers and Brady looks identical except those guys played better. He definitely injured and is in control of the offense. This never would have happened if he didn’t cry like a baby about Bruce and this team would be 9 and 4. I would love to know the real story and I think Bruce knew exactly what he was doing and is sticking it to Tommy. Where’s Jason and BA been since the Saints game ( week 2 ) ??? We need reporters to find that out because to see a team with talent this bad doesn’t seem real ?

  56. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

    Time in their careers

I’m not a Patriots fan. I’m also not a very clear and obvious hater. Your posts wreak of over the top Brady hate. Anyone that is being objective and rational can see that the coaching of Lefwitch and Bowels is catastrophically horrendous.

  58. Redeemer Says:

Oneilbuc, I’m sure it’s Brady fault that his line is ranked near the bottom in pass/run block win rate. Go do yourself a favor and buy NFL game pass. Look at the all 22. His recievers aren’t separating. I’m sure you also think it’s his fault Smith is a holding machine. That called back TD to Evans could’ve changed the course of the game. Is it Brady’s fault that Bowles vaunted defense got punked by a rookie making his first start? I’ll give you this. You’ve hated Brady since he arrived. At least you’re consistent. Yes Brady has missed some key throws. He’s not infallible. I’ve said this many times, Brady isn’t capable of carrying a team anymore. That’s far from being old and done.

  59. Bucsbeast Says:

Brady NEEDS to retire before he completely destroys his legacy. This season has costed him his marriage and negative criticism. He looks like a 45 year old playing a kids game. Dude has 300+ million waiting for him when he retires.
    No reason to play on.

  60. Darin Says:

Zzbic lmao. If an unnamed source is your truth we feel for ya. Leftwich planted this bs

  61. Bucsbeast Says:

Believe me I’ve been around since the 90s. Love having he him here. But it’s time. Back to the Den of depression until we get a coaching staff that can keep up with the new NFL style.

  62. Oneilbuc Says:

Redeemer. That’s the first time I ever heard of a stat win rate go see where the offensive line is ranked at giving up sacks. You just make up excuses for Brady because you are a Patriot fan. Stop it with that lame stat that no body ever talked about. Brady is 45 years old and I know you thought Brady was a god but he ain’t nothing but a man it’s over he’s done after this season regardless how it plays out. And the crazy part about it is I had the bucs to win this game. And I think we win next week against the Bengals and make a deep playoff run because of the experience of Brady and the rest of the veterans. But Brady’s time has came and gone it’s been 23 years time for you to let go.

  63. BucThis Says:

The cult like following that Brady has is amazing to say the least. IDK why it’s so hard for Brady enthusiast to just admit that he’s not playing well this season. That’s okay everybody has up and down years. I knew our beloved Buccaneers organization messed up when they gave Brady the amount of power he has within the organization. That has not and will not work for any team in any sport.

  64. Oneilbuc Says:

Bucsbeat Brady legacy will always be intact this ain’t hurting his legacy he’s Jerry Rice in Oakland and Seattle his time is up . Brady is still one of the best to ever play but his time is up.

  65. Oneilbuc Says:

Boat. Did you give BL credit for the 2020 season ??

  66. Tap-Out Says:

Rob Singer: why rag on Affirmative Action it’s needed now more than it was than when it was signed into law! It’s intent was to force companies to give fair opportunities to the oppressed, over looked with the same resume as those getting hired.

  67. Tbbucs3 Says:

You know who else has a crappy Oline? Justin Herbert, he seems to be doing just fine.

  68. D-Rok Says:

Bowles in his presser just said No to Silver’s reporting, and said a lot of position groups have meetings before games.

  69. Redeemer Says:

Oneilbuc, pass/run block win rate is a telling stat. It comes from next gen, not me. Brady doesn’t take sacks, never has. That’s stupid football. He has brains enough to get rid of the ball, instead of facing a 3rd and 30. If you give him a middling run game, and good pass pro, he’s still elite. I’ve yet to hear you say anything else but it’s Brady’s fault. That’s just not true. I’ll be the first to admit he’s missed guys. That comes from not trusting what’s in front of him. Some of it is certainly on him. But you can’t expect a 45 year old man to carry a team.

  70. Infomeplease Says:

Tap Out, your denial that the San Fran game took place is commendable, but there are only 4 more games to play. We played one yesterday! Of course you may argue that we didn’t!!!

  71. NEfan Says:

Redeemer, please explain middling to him, if you don’t he will have to look it up and you reply will come a month later. I don’t care what his age is, tell me a QB that would be successful with wr’s that don’t get separation, a invisible rushing game, an abysmal oline and fan expectation of the perfect completion % throwing 40 to 55+ a game. This guy isn’t real, you’ll have to build him. Brady is so old one week earlier he did what 20 something Baker Mayfield did for the Rams only with less time. Morons!!!

  72. SPARKY Says:

One I’ll buc, you seem to be a man who knows a lot about football. So enough of your talk about Brady. We know how you feel about him, we’ve read the same thing 100 times. Let us hear what you think about the rest of the team.

  73. A Says:

whatever we are doing – do the exact opposite.

I swear, it seemed like we were tipping our Wr screen play. We’d go 5 wide…motion the RB back to protect…49ers would auditable out and into a defense waiting for that play. They either lined up in a defense knowing we’d auditable to that play…then switch out…or they just knew it was coming…

  74. ClwJB Says:

Well, this would show why we are such a disjointed mess on O…. When you have 2 leaders you actually have none

  75. Oneilbuc Says:

I see what I see. Y’all Brady biaches need to go back to Los Angeles where you come from. I know everything about foootball, I played two years of pee wee football for the best women’s church league in Iran. You dont kno spit. I graduated 2nd in my class, Leftnut was 1st so me smarter than you. Brady sucks he old man at 45.

  76. Oneilbuc Says:

So now yall trying to be me I’m just a man who call it like I see it so you hack my name lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

  77. Oneilbuc Says:

I just a hack who see what I see you see? I don’t hate Brady, I hate the white man cause he bad to my great great grandpa. I tell my kids not to like the white man to caw he stupid. Brady no good, need to send him bye bye

  78. PUSTONI Says:

Look I think Brady is the Goat….. at QB. But maybe just maybe coach TB12 isn’t all that. He wanted Arians out… well be careful what you wish for. The rumors were he didn’t like Arians changing game plans drawn up by him and Leftwhich. And he didn’t like some of the things said by Arians out in public. Well he got what he wanted, he deserves credit for the many accomplishments he’s achieved. But now when things aren’t going his way he deserves some of the blame. His normal off-season plan didn’t work out retirement then the divorce. So it’s understandable a man with so many distractions who missed a good portion of the off-season to not preform all that well.

  79. NEfan Says:

Lol 😂😂 I know that’s you because you are a coward!!

  80. NEfan Says:

Joe why didn’t you let my post show

  81. NEfan Says:

Yeah I see how you are!! You mad because your great white hope suck

  82. NEfan Says:

Sorry oneiltobrady, not me, maybe someone posing as me. The last person I want to be is a hater like you.
