“I Always Look Up To B.G.”

January 29th, 2018

Brent Grimes

Kwon Alexander stunned a few people last night bringing his brand of raw intensity to the Pro Bowl.

Kwon was hitting in the rain while others looked like Sean Payton in a slap fight with Dirk Koetter.

The heart and soul of the Buccaneers defense, Kwon respects those with the right attitude. If the attitude isn’t right, he’ll boil inside or speak up loudly, just ask Chris Baker or Warren Sapp.

Kwon also is hungry to learn and one guy who gets his mind right is cornerback Brent Grimes, Kwon told Joe.

“He is always on his stuff. I always look up to B.G.,” Kwon said of Grimes. “He’s smart, man, smart player. If I made the decisions, he’d get paid. He’s taught me to enjoy life, have fun with it, have fun with the grind but work very hard at the same time. That’s really how he is. ‘Just enjoy the people around you because you’ll see them only for a couple more years. They’ll be your friends for life and stuff like that but football doesn’t last forever.’ You see B.G. put in the work, man, and you know he’s done it all along because that’s why he’s still playing like this.”

It was interesting to Joe that Kwon’s comments sort of reflected what Brent’s wife, mercurial Miko Grimes, said earlier this month on WDAE-AM 620: that Grimes is enjoying his sort of father-figure role.

“He’s gotten very close to those young guys. You can totally tell, like he’s their daddy,’ Miko said. “You know, and I think it’s awesome. You know, you guys brought the smile back. He lost his smile in Miami [with the Dolphins]. And the smile is back. So I think that money can fix all the problems.”

Yes, Grimes turns 35 this summer and he’s got leverage on the Bucs as a soon-to-be free agent.

About that smile … will the Bucs soon put a contract in front of Grimes that makes him smile?

If B G has half a brain He will run as fast as he can from this POS franchise led by career losers

  4. zzbucs Says:

Come on guys!!! pay him as a 35 years good player….Dont over pay, that would be a huge mistake!!!!!´Sign him at a right price, nothing of lots of guarantee money!!! Thats ridiculous!!

    Deenice07

55 would not know a winner if it bit him on the arse…you need to let those underachieving has beens go… one super bowl and 5 career playoffs is failure not legendary… 55 needs to crawl in a hole with Sapp. They are nothing more than irrelvant has beens that massively underachived and choked when it mattered most.. Next…

  6. Deenice07 Says:

Please checkout my son’s Q&A above with Mr. Derrick Brooks yesterday at the Pro Bowl! Double Nickel was very uncomfortable answering his question, 🤣

  7. tmaxcon Says:

55 was uncomfortable because the questions were too complicated for him to understand.

  8. 1Gr8Buc Says:

If anyone ever wondered if maxipad was a true troll he cleared it up with those comments.

  9. Eric Says:

Tmax is just a stupid troll with no life. Just leave already. Why do you come on the message booards in the first place if you hate the organization so much . Classless loser

  10. John meeks Says:

Tmaxcon,Brooks is in the hall of fame as is Sapp and what has this organization done since they left?you can’t be in the hof and be a loser.i read your comments daily and while you do have some good views sometimes, calling Sapp and Brooks losers is a ignorant statement!I remember this organization before they got to tampa!it was bad!!!

  11. tmaxcon Says:

    Eric

Someone has to be a realists so you delusional people don’t run unchecked … let go of a failed past. you fools do realize this franchise has had 4 good years in 42… Not a Lot to be positive and their is ZERO hope for the future… 55 just ran one football team into the ground yet some of you ignorant fools that can’t let the failed past go want that bum to run bucs … just laughable. Let the failed has beens go…they are irrelvant

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Tmax got up this morning…tried to take a $hit…but it ended up here.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

Without 99 55 is just anotger undersized lb. Bucs have not won since Sapp left. Facts hurt. 55 hung on 4 years to long. Let the fool go

  14. tmaxcon Says:

Bucs have no legends just underachieving irrelvant has beens.

  15. Bob in Valrico Says:

At least Brooks has accomplished something on the field and in life, maybe you should go back to your irrelevant cancer research Tmax.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

It takes more than 1 super bowl and a pathetic 5 career playoff wins to be a legend

  17. John meeks Says:

Well the experts consider Brooks the best coverage linebacker of all time and he was also defensive mvp of the league.you might want to do some research, cause you are making yourself look pretty ignorant this morning (more than usual).

  18. Ed Schwartz Says:

Brooks haters? WTH. Only man I ever saw that could run down Mike Vick in his prime and make him stay in the pocket. Always was around the ball, knew his assignments and made tackles. Most NFL linebackers whiff on a good RB juke or cut move in space, not Brooks or Barber, both great tacklers, an art lost among most of these young Bucs today.

  19. tmaxcon Says:

Some one has to point out facts to you low standard losers who act like bucs pathetic 2 playoff wins in six years under dungy the clown were glory years…

49ers, pats, cowboys,Steelers have had glory years bucs, bears and ravens were just lucky enough to win with one dimensional teams and bad qbs…

Defense does not win championships franchise qb do.

  20. C eh N eh D eh Says:

Franchise Grimes and that will put the screws to Miko shopping her man…He deserves every dime and is much needed…

  21. tmaxcon Says:

i don’t hate brooks. he was a good player on a great defense led by sapp a decade plus ago. those guys are irrelevant to modern bucs and did not do that great in the first place. 5 playoff wins for a 15 year career is garbage. period. without sapp bucs defense is nothing. he drove the car simple as that.

only the 85 bears and the city of chicago hold on to mediocre champions longer than tampa does. let those old fools go. they can’t help the new bucs hell they could barely figure it out on their own. again 5 career playoff wins is not very successful it’s actually garbage when you have a top defense for nearly a decade. thanks monte for getting the best out of the players while dungy the clown played to the media.

  22. C eh N eh D eh Says:

Darrell Green played into his 40’s..no doubt Grimes could too, if he wants to…hasn’t lost a step yet..

  23. STFUTMAXCON Says:

Tmaxcon do you ever STFU? Why do you hate the our Bucs so much. You’re always talking bad about our team. I partially understand your frustration for the last year but you must really HATE the Bucs if you’re talking trash about Sapp AND Brooks!!! Go get a life bro.

  24. Defense Rules Says:

@tmaxcon … “without sapp bucs defense is nothing. he drove the car simple as that.” tmaxcon you’ve outdone yourself (and from some of your previous rants I didn’t think that was possible). Bucs’ 2002 defense is considered by most to be one of the Top-10 defenses of all time (many consider it to be one of the Top-5). Sapp did not ‘drive the car’ as you say, but he was ONE of the key drivers (I assume you meant leaders of that defense BTW). His record after he left here for 4 years with Oakland (15-49) was certainly nothing that he’ll be bragging about.

Warren was a key cog in a superb defense that had solid leadership at EACH LEVEL (Sapp on the DLine, Brooks in the LB corps, and Lynch in the secondary). Plus the NEXT LEVEL of leadership (guys like Rice, Quarles, etc) weren’t that shabby either. And every one of them not only was a great performer on the field, but they knew how to play within the T-E-A-M concept. Wow what a thought huh. Our present Bucs can learn a lot from how those “old fools” (as you say) went about building an outstanding T-E-A-M defense.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

2 year deal, first year guaranteed. He’s worth resigning. I say 2 instead of 3 because its pretty obvious he’ll only play one more year.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
“…without sapp bucs defense is nothing. he drove the car simple as that.”

Without a doubt, Sapp added the swagger the Bucs needed. But he was not solely responsible for the success they had.

Lynch added the punch on defense. Brooks played a huge role. And Alstott added the punch on offense. Simeon, while around, helped make Sapp because he pulled off the double and triple teams.

  27. Defense Rules Says:

@CehNehDeh … “Franchise Grimes and that will put the screws to Miko shopping her man.” Say what? He’s a UFA (the U stands for Unrestricted) & is contemplating retirement. Wouldn’t exactly call that LEVERAGE for Licht to work with.

And Miko isn’t ‘shopping her man’ as you say. I’m 100% convinced that Brent doesn’t know at this point if he’ll play next year or not. The promising part (IMO) is Miko’s statement that ““He’s gotten very close to those young guys. You can totally tell, like he’s their daddy.” Brent’s still playing at a high level, and I would hope that Licht doesn’t blow it by letting him walk away. I’m sure that ‘money does talk’ to professional athletes across the board, in that it’s ONE indication of how much a team values you (some call it R-E-S-P-E-C-T). Brent’s earned our respect … pay the man Jason. We desperately need his leadership on the field (and in the classroom) for our young Secondary to grow & mature.

  28. DBS Says:

Be Smart and Pay the Man!

  29. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Defense rules

He will be a UFA on March 14,2018 at 4:00pm when the New season begins. That is why the week before is franchise tag designation week!!!

and the Bucs have been paying BG24 8 million a year. They have not been exactly skimping on him. The question is how much do they want the pot sweetened????????

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!

  30. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Wow the trolls are really pouring it on thick this morning. Didn’t think these post could get any dumber. I stand corrected.

  31. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Man just when you think TMAX can’t sink any lower with his delusional negativity.

It’s probably time to stop calling him a troll or other names and just go Mr. T on him. “Pity the fool”.

As for BG….that Miko quote is the best news I’ve heard. Again these two do NOT need anymore money…doesn’t mean Miko won’t demand enough to show some
R E S P E C T…e.g. I don ‘t think they can sign Talib to 40% more money than Brent makes…those contracts will have to be pretty close to meet Miko’s respect clause.

@Bonzai Why do you assume this will be Brent’s last year. I think he’s taking it year by year as virtually all athletes do at the end of their careers…except perhaps for Brady. If Darrell Green can play to 42 there’s no reason with today’s improved nutrition (and we know Miko is a fiend when it come to preparing healthy food for Brent) and workout regimens compared to Green’s days that BG can’t play 3 or 4 more years.

  32. Pickgrin Says:

I say Joe should do a tmax poll

    Stay or Boot

If 90%+ vote Boot – then he gets a lifetime Ban

This massive troll is no longer just an irritation – he’s now like a huge puss filled boil that needs to be lanced so that all that poisonous infection can be squeezed out…

  33. BucEmUp Says:

They better, it’s a crime how underrated that man is and always has been.

Grimes and Talib 2018 gag Mike Smith put him in a closet Sunday mornings and let the men play some press man coverage

  34. NFLNut Says:

Pay him … but ONLY ONE YEAR GUARANTEED, TWO AT THE MOST … he’s old, period,

  35. Defense Rules Says:

@Realist … “He will be a UFA on March 14,2018 at 4:00pm when the New season begins.” Agreed Realist, and if I remember correctly the Bucs (and only the Bucs) are free to negotiate with him until then. My point though was that putting the Franchise Tag on someone who’s contemplating retirement is probably a sure way to piss him off & insure that he retires (and ultimately wasting a perfectly good Franchise Tag … which Bucs may well need this year & next). Licht needs to show the man the R-E-S-P-E-C-T that he’s earned through his 2 years here (I keep remembering the leadership that Mankins brought to the OLine, and how much it seemingly missed that when he retired). Hopefully Licht will sign him to another 2 year contract (possibly even 3 years IF Brent will commit to playing that long).

  36. Baz Says:

    @Pickgrin
Could not agree more with a Dumba… err, I mean Tmaxcon poll to finally boot this POS out of the chat. No one likes to read his normal rants on McCoy every single article, regardless of the topic, but now he’s attacking our former great players? Go get lost dude.

  37. Cgmaster27 Says:

LOve how tmax comes on here and bitches everyday about this “loser” organization. And yet he’s back here the next day bitching again. Does that make him a loser? I’d say yes , yes it does. And knocking brooks just shows his stupidity.

  38. Mike in LOL Says:

I agree Pickgrin, let’s vote this troll off the island!!

  39. Mikadeemas Says:

Yeah, ole toad, what a miserable mf’er! Ha, spell check changed tmax to toad. It must really suck to be him, but much more so to be around him. GO BUCS!!

  40. 813bucboi Says:

maxipad says: Defense does not win championships franchise qb do.

so dilfer and brad Johnson are franchise qb’s…..LOL…GTFOH….

whats next?….emmitt smith is over rated?…randy moss?….ray lewis(who only has 1 more SB than brooks but played on a dominate defense…did the ravens underachieve too?)……GO BUCS!!!

  41. 813bucboi Says:

    let him walk…..sign malcom butler….k.fuller….b.breeland…..t.johnson…..

sign one of those guys….GO BUCS!!!!

  42. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs would have been a dynasty 15-20 yrs ago if they had a great qb.

    Steelers had Bradshaw
    49ers had Montana, Young
    Cowboys had Staubach, Aikman
    Patriots have Brady

Bucs had return bin at Walmart

  43. Bucsfan951 Says:

Tmax: did you make that phone call yet?

  44. unbelievable Says:

Haven’t been on the site in a few days. I see tmax is still the biggest, clueless loser on here.

It’s really a shame tmax- you’ve under achieved your entire JBF posting career by trying the same dumb schtick over and over again without it ever working. You’ve had just one single good comment in over 6+ years of daily commenting and ranting? All that bluster and nothing to show for it. Not a meaningful comment or discussion ever. Sad!

  45. godzilla13 Says:

Sign Brent Grimes now. Losing your best CB in FA when he is the best FA

  46. NoFlyZone27 Says:

Joe, did Kwon indicate any plans to work with D. Brooks this offseason given their time together at the pro bowl?

Also, related to the content of this article, proven veteran players who produce on the field and are true professionals off the field are needed. B. Grimes is a prime example to help shift the culture and winning attitude on this team that has lacked true accountability.
