“You Can Tell On Film That The Team Believes”

January 29th, 2018

When America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, was a redshirt, 18-year-old freshman at Florida State, the Vikings Xavier Rhodes was a stud senior cornerback who would be drafted soon after by Minnesota in the first round.

Rhodes has evolved into arguably the game’s best corner, a lockdown force who also is physical and long.

So at the Pro Bowl festivities, Joe asked Rhodes about Jameis, not about Jameis the guy, but what he sees on film from the Bucs’ face of the franchise.

“He is 100 percent captain,” Rhodes said of Jameis. “Man, if his team not doing well, if they’re not playing well, he’s going to hype his team up. He’ll do anything he can do to give his team the confidence, so they can go out there and believe and play hard. That’s one thing I’ll say about Jameis, you can tell on film that the team believes and surround him.”

Joe challenged Rhodes and asked whether he can really see all that on film with no sound via a camera view that isn’t up close.

Oh, boy. Joe did not know that Rhodes is a highly animated personality.

Rhodes’ voice got higher and sped up in his reply. “You can see it. Yes, you can see it. You can see it. You can definitely see it,” Rhodes said of Jameis’ visible leadership.

Joe talked to other a few other Pro Bowlers, including Von Miller, about Jameis, and a leadership comment was the first thing to pop up from them, as well.

What that’s worth, Joe’s not sure. Joe would prefer these guys were talking about Jameis’ prowess on the field. But the leadership thing certainly could help attract free agents.

@Joe … “What that’s worth, Joe’s not sure. Joe would prefer these guys were talking about Jameis’ prowess on the field. And I’m convinced that he will this year … IF we toughen the OLine AND improve the run game. That’s done wonders for Drew Brees & Matty Ice in the past several years, and it’ll do wonders for Jameis too.

I believe he is a leader. But, as a leader, when does he get it that he is letting his team down with his insanely dumb decisions that result in turnovers? And I am not a hater. I love the kid. I see his potential. But when does the light come on?

  3. Lunchbox Says:

Agreed. Now if he can just cut down on the fumbles… For what it’s worth I think he’ll correct it. I also have a feeling VHIII will make a jump this year. Nothing really to base that on, just a hunch.

  4. Lunchbox Says:

Agreed with Defense Rules, that is.

  5. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

The “light comes on” when he gets an O line and a halfway decent run game. Just like every other qb in this league. (Also needs a better scheme)

  6. Sierra048 Says:

Lol at those who think FAs will want to come to the Bucs because the crab grabber is here. They come for one thing. $$$ The money $$$.

  7. Bucnjim Says:

With the time, money, free agents and draft picks invested in the offense I would hope that they will be at least decent for years. For the past decade the Bucs have depleted a once proud Defense to the point where picking up two old trouble makers sounds like a good idea.

  8. Wausa Says:

Jameis is already one of the best QB’s in the NFL, but its tough to win with an awful kicking game, and the worst defense and running backs in the NFL.

I completely agree Sierra048. Why would any blue chip FA want to come here, especially on defense? I mean our coaches are a joke, this team is far from being a contender, we’re going on a ten year playoff drought. Where’s the attractiveness of this joke of a franchise, other than a fat payday. And even then we don’t get bona fide stud free agents in their prime. We end up getting broken down has beens or never weres that are looking to steal a fat payday, i.e Tank ass Chris Baker, Robert Ayers, J.R. Sweeny, Chris Conte, etc. ,etc. And keeping the losing status quo is not going to help either. Jameis’s presence alone is not good enough in my opinion, no matter how rah rah he is. I like Jameis, but we need more than just him as a selling point. I look at this team from the outside as a FA and I say, HELL NO don’t make me laugh.

  12. ZK Says:

Wausa! Your joking,Winston is not one of the best in the league.

We were never truly in synch last year. #3 basically lost a 1/3 of his season with the bum arm if not more that we do not know about. He clearly played in games where his arm was not 100%

We started out with the hurricane disrupting our schedule and costing a bye week.

we were hit hard by injuries…we lost our most promising pass rusher who was just beginning to blossom at the start of the year. Kwon and LVD and BG all missed games…as did VHG but he missed the entire season. Gotta find out what’s wrong with him.

There were a lot of new pieces on this team. FA’s and young guys a year or two out of school still trying to mesh.

Those are all legimate reasons for our struggles not simply excuses. If you want excuses then talk about HK or the high expectations that our young guys seemed to buy into. Those ARE excuses…we were mentally weak.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger…hopefully last year will add to our mental toughness for this year.

Aaron Rodgers was sucking his thumb on the sidelines at Jameis’ age … people need to R-E-L-A-X and take the long-term view on Jameis and the Bucs.

Yeah well that’s because he was sitting behind a HOF that he learned quite a bit from. Jameis unfortunately isn’t that fortunate. lol

THATS BS……and those are all BS excuses….

@joe wrote about this the other day….luckily GMC echoed the excuse BS…..

“You can point to defense, you can point to offense, you can point to coaching. you can point so many different places. You can point to injuries. There’s a lot of different excuses we can make, but I’m not going to make any of them.”

I hope you follow suit and stop making excuses for this team…..every team has injuries to starters or star players….every team has to get there young guys and vets on 1 page….every year each team has new pieces…..

cann the excuse!!!…hold this staff accountable….GO BUCS!!!!

There is no doubt in my mind that we have a franchise QB in Winston. I absolutely loved the article Joe had up a few days ago that compares Winston to future HOF QBs in regards to their first three seasons. If that article didn’t make you Winston Haters realize you might be wrong about him then Kick rocks.

I honestly feel like Winston will turn his experiences this past three seasons into a really impressive outing next season. The light is just gonna switch to ON. The Offensive side of the ball is 1 Lineman and 1 RB away from being special.

Get him some run blockers and a marquee back and u will see a different 3
Jameis will never be a top 5 qb
    He wasn’t given those gifts
    Be he can be solid

  20. jb Says:

It’d be kinda nice to have a leader than didn’t constantly give up the ball. I think we’ve heard and SEEN enough of Winston’s leadership. Let’s see it translate to W’s and the playoffs…..and another Lombardi Trophy…or two, or three!

  21. JL47 Says:

Listen, personally I think Jameis won’t get much better than this. He just finished his 3rd season and nothing pops out in terms of MVP. . . unless we’re talking about turnovers. Of course, he can always improve in that category, however, it’s gonna take a while to drill into his hard head not to force throws and quit staring at his targets. And even then that’s a stretch. He’ll always be a mediocre quarterback. I don’t understand why people think he’s gonna turn into the second coming of TB12

  22. firethecannons Says:

fourth and ten on the 5 yard line with 1 minute on the clock
he fokkin put the team on his back and won the game (against one of the best teams in the league) kid has no fear

if he can just stop the truly optional bonehead turnovers–the ones he throws in triple coverage and the– I’m getting sacked here somebody take it– plays then he’d improve his numbers alot
