Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida. (more…)

Stat nerds are big on Austin Seferian-Jenkins for 2015.

Stat nerds are big on Austin Seferian-Jenkins for 2015.

Though it is too early for a final grade on the 2014 draft, it sure seems a whole lot of shaky after the Albert Pujols home run of wide receiver Mike Evans.

That guy is another reason to draft Jameis Winston. Why waste years with turnover-prone Josh McCown? (more…)

Greg Hardy Talks “Dream” McCoy Pairing

Tuesday, February 10th, 2015

gerald mccoy 0916The NFL’s hottest and most controversial free agent, defensive end Greg Hardy, is a guy with pretty strong opinions.

One of them he shared with Joe last year. (more…)

Retooling The Offensive Line

A BSPNer believes LT Anthony Collins should be kept as a reserve lineman, which he was at Cincinnati.

A BSPNer believes LT Anthony Collins should be kept as a reserve lineman, which he was at Cincinnati.

After the Bucs select a quarterback to begin the 2015 NFL draft — if they don’t, they have major, serious ‘splainin’ to do — things get interesting.

The Bucs need help at safety. The Bucs need help at linebacker. Dear God, the Bucs need help at defensive end, and dudes walking around with a white cane can see what a colossal mess the offensive line is. (more…)

“Quietly Disappointing”

Joe stated previously that the Bucs could look to upgrade as many as nine starting positions. If Joe can see that, surely Bucs coach Lovie Smith can see that.

And how that translates into “on the verge,” Joe just can’t quite figure out without the help of Jack Daniels. (more…)

Top 30 Buccaneers Mysteries Of 2014 – No. 22

Monday, February 9th, 2015

Who could forget the Captain?

In many ways, Tampa Bay’s 2014 season was more bizarre than the MRSA-infected, quarterback-gone-mental, Fire-Schiano-billboards campaign of 2013.

There were plenty of real Bucs mysteries last year, and Joe’s revisiting the most interesting of the bunch. (more…)

Stats Vs. Evaluation

The stat geeks are not impressed with Bucs DE Jacquies Smith.

The stat geeks are not impressed with Bucs DE Jacquies Smith.

It just blows Joe’s mind that year after year after year, no matter who runs the show, no matter who the shot-caller is, the Bucs urinate in the wind trying to find an edge rusher.

It is sad the team has yet to retain a replacement for Simeon Rice (who Joe thinks should be under serious consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame). For goodness sake, that was nine years ago. (more…)

Inevitable Greg Hardy Lust

During the glory years, Bucs fans, and the President, embraced a running back with a bad history.

Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy is a manbeast young Pro Bowl pass rusher who missed nearly all of last season courtesy of the NFL, a result of a North Carolina judge saying he was guilty of misdemeanor domestic abuse. (Chilling and sometimes humorous highlights here.)

But Hardy appealed and demanded a jury trial, and his case was thrown out today. (more…)

Why?

Monday, February 9th, 2015

whyJoe just doesn’t get it. The thought drives him out of his mind. The following premise makes zero sense in any way shape or form:

The Bucs should trade back and pass on drafting a quarterback. (more…)

New Bucs OC Dirk Koetter wants a quick mind calling signals.

New Bucs OC Dirk Koetter wants a quick mind calling signals.

Bucs fans are trying to play Maxwell Smart to figure out who the Bucs will choose as their next quarterback come April 30 (if Tampa Bay drafts a quarterback).

One reason fans are trying to be sleuths (and the Bucs are doing their best with their own version of Enigma) is there is nothing else going on. (more…)

Fixing The Offensive Line

Sunday, February 8th, 2015

Man, the offensive line was some kind of bad last year. Joe wonders if turnover-prone quarterback Josh McCown had to seek a shrink after getting pounded like a red-headed stepchild. (more…)
