Former Bucs great Derrick Brooks said he would look forward to being a big brother for Jameis Winston, but just not at his home.

Former Bucs great Derrick Brooks said he would look forward to being a big brother for Jameis Winston outside his home.

Much has been speculated in recent weeks about former Bucs great Derrick Brooks agreeing to be a “mentor” to potential first round draft pick Jameis Winston.

What exactly that means, Joe really has no idea. (more…)

Soon-to-be Hall of Fame GM Bill Polian believes Mike Glennon will start when the 2015 season begins.

Yesterday, the NFL world was still abuzz with the news of the Bucs washing their hands of turnover-prone Josh McCown.

The subject dominated talk on SiriusXM NFL Radio, ate up a good bit of chatter for popular radio and TV personalty Adam Schein’s “Schein on Sports,” and was hot on BSPN, Joe was told. (more…)

How McCown Learned Of Cut

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Lovie Smith tried several times to reach Josh McCown to inform him of his release.

The NFL is such a popular business, pastime and sport, that every tiny move, if someone talks to the right person, is instantly all over Twitter and then breaking news on national television and radio shows in seconds.

Unlike what happens to many players, former Tampa Bay quarterback Josh McCown did not learn of his release from anyone outside the Bucs organization. (more…)

"Man, if I had Freeman, I'd still be the damn head coach. Did you see the way Freeman ran my freakin' playbook in 2010?"

“Man, if I had Freeman, I’d still be the damn Bucs head coach. Did you see the way that guy ran my freakin’ playbook in 2010?”

Josh Freeman continues to climb out of the NFL shadows.

Josh McCown is a proud member of the Mike Glennon Mob

Josh McCown hasn’t been crying today, less than 24 hours since the Bucs and his ol’ pal Lovie Smith cut him.

McCown even took an upbeat lap around various national radio shows. (more…)

Tyrus Thompson On Day 2?

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Man, the Bucs need to land a young stud offensive lineman. The new Tampa Bay rookie quarterback (hopefully) should have quality O-line pieces to grow alongside.

So who might the Bucs eye on Day 2 of the NFL Draft? (more…)

jameis 0212b

Yes, it is 20 hours after Joe learned of the Bucs cutting ties with turnover-prone quarterback Josh McCown. Joe in some ways still can’t believe it.

No, McCown didn’t deserve to be on the team. He was horrible, no way to sugarcoat it. (more…)

Don’t Repeat The Freeman Mistake

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

josh freeman 0505iSix years ago, talented rookie Josh Freeman was buried in training camp and in offseason activities as the Bucs’ No. 3 and No. 4 quarterback.

Then he started the regular season with a part-time-at-best quarterbacks coach, scant practice reps, and no good veteran to mentor him. (more…)

Jameis Watch: Tape Says It All

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

jameis 0212Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida. (more…)

Did McCown Play Hardball?

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Yes, Joe is still stunned by yesterday’s news that turnover-prone quarterback Josh McCown was turned loose by the Bucs.

Now Joe has already speculated what this means, but with Lovie Smith’s unpredictable history, the Bucs could go out and sign Roger Staubach out of mothballs and it wouldn’t surprise Joe. (more…)

Meet Dirk Koetter

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

No deer for young Dirk

Well, it sure looks as if new Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter has thrown around his weight during the handful of days he has been on the coaching staff.

If Koetter told Lovie he could salvage turnover-prone Josh McCown, don’t you think McCown would still be on the Bucs roster?

As Joe’s old football coach used to say, “You damned right.” (more…)

McCown Exit = Winston Entrance?

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

jameis winston 0212

Joe thought it was an absolute bombshell when he learned the Bucs ripped up the contract of turnover-prone quarterback Josh McCown and waved him goodbye yesterday. Stunning because Joe thought Lovie Smith would keep McCown as a bridge of sorts for a rookie QB, whether it was Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota.

That premise blew up in smoke. That is why Joe was sort of shocked, not that McCown’s turrible play didn’t deserve getting kicked to the streets. (more…)

Not long after landing the Buccaneers general manager job, Jason Licht said one big thing he learned during his years under Bill Belicheat in New England is to be unafraid to move on from a player that underperformed; accept the loss and never look back. (more…)

Leaders And Role Models Named

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Lovie 0803Remember when Joe talked to former Bucs starting linebacker Jonathan Casillas during Super Bowl week, and Casillas talked about how Mike Glennon definitely should be the Bucs’ quarterback of the future?

Well, Casillas had more to say about inner thoughts of the Bucs’ locker room. (more…)
