Freeman Teams With Chucky In Tampa

"Man, if I had Freeman, I'd still be the damn head coach. Did you see the way Freeman ran my freakin' playbook in 2010?"

“Man, if I had Freeman, I’d still be the damn Bucs head coach. Did you see the way that guy ran my freakin’ playbook in 2010?”

Josh Freeman continues to climb out of the NFL shadows.

Now he’s hanging out with Chucky on a Wednesday afternoon.

You can read about it here at TBO.com. Chucky is back playing assistant high school football coach at a small Tampa private school, and he and Freeman were coaching up kids yesterday. Redskins Kirk Cousins and Alfred Morris joined the fun.

So here’s what we know about Freeman since he imploded with the Vikings late in 2013, following his Tampa Bay meltdown.

1) Freeman was linked to working out with Chucky months ago but there was no public confirmation.

2) Raheem Morris said Freeman was on the comeback trail during a radio interview.

3) Freeman’s Tampa house went into foreclosure in the fall, but was released from foreclosure — case closed — three weeks ago.

4) Freeman was seen last month training at IMG Academy with Chris Weinke.

5) Freeman is now hanging out with Chucky.

Look for the Bucs’ former franchise quarterback to be a hot name at the brand new unsigned veterans combine in Phoenix on March 22.

If free ends up in ATL I’ll die laughing.

  2. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Actually Freeman would be Jameis’s best mentor

  3. WS99 Says:

    Joe Joe

I doubt that. Jamie’s ain’t trying to hang in “Hyde park” if you know what I mean. From what I seen on social media and read Jamie’s nothing but a good ol country boy who fears god and likes to wrecks havoc. No different than many of the country boys I’ve met down here.

  4. Tom Edrington Says:

Perhaps Gruden can get Freeman a job as a “runner” in the press box on Monday Night Football…..

Man do I miss this this great Coach. #ThankYouForSuperBowl37Coach

    HIRE GRUDEN

  7. Eric Says:

What a jerk that Gruden is……

Thank you lame ass local hack media for running the man out of town.

  8. Pat Says:

Check this out…it’s hilarious. Read Option. Can Gruden be leading the Charge for MGM?

If you’re rooting against Freeman then your problem isn’t with Freeman, it’s with yourself

Wish him nothing but the the best and hope he’s got things turned around. Would love to see a cleaned up Free get another chance somewhere to make a team

  11. Couch Fan Says:

Freeman should never get another chance to throw another team’s season down the toilet. And I dont believe he will.

  12. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Yes Chucky got Dungy’s talent over the hump and we’ll always be grateful for the SB. But he was losing it. He was not cutting edge.

Here is a man who claimed the shotgun was horrible and look what’s going on around the league. He’s not an innovator anymore he’s a has been who is earning a good living broadcasting and is smart enough to hang on to his great gig. God love him for that.

Like all Buc fans I’m appreciative for that Super Bowl year but his time was up and he deserved to go. He had no eye for talent and kept trying worn out retreads. The worst thing that could happen to the Bucs is a return of Chucky.
His day has come and gone.

  13. MadMax Says:

Not hating on him but he must be going broke….oh well, I wish him well….as long as its not with us!!!!!

  14. CP80 Says:

Freeman is a good player. He got treated like dirt by this organization… He may have been dealing with some mental health issues yes but why was a man thrown under the bus so fast? Where was the help?

  15. Barry Says:

Gruden is only coach ever to have 2 teams in the same Super Bowl

  16. MTM Says:

How does anyone think Freeman was treated poorly by the Bucs. He tanked at every stop.

  17. Brian D Says:

Met him in Hyde Park in October and he said he’d been training with Gruden.

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

No way any team will touch Freeman at this point. They all know the truth of how JFro left here. Jfro and his agent did eruptible damage to his career to get out of his contract.

  19. J Moné Says:

If that dumbass mark Sanchez can play and start for a nfl team freeman should def had his job !

  20. Jim Says:

@Pat thank you for that. That was great!

“Freeman is a good player. He got treated like dirt by this organization… He may have been dealing with some mental health issues yes but why was a man thrown under the bus so fast? Where was the help?”

Did you happen to forgot how awful Freeman was playing when he was benched? It was beyond pathetic.

  22. Eric Says:

Wait a minute Josh Mccown is supposed to be the worst qb in bucs history.

How can he be in more demand than Freeman?

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

Joe, was Freeman even invited to this? I read the TBO and it sounded like JFro the junky just showed up? Not a lot of details was there?

  24. Bucs fan in Chicago Says:

I wish him the best. Hopefully he has gotten his life together.

  25. White Tiger Says:

The id was nothing but spectacular for MOST of his career in Tampa.

He ran into a coach that was caustic and dismissive of his accomplishments BECAUSE he wanted his dream-boy, the one that got away, and everyone else bac-up…Mike Glennon.

    It cost them both, dearly.

I wish Freeman well, hope his personal issues are behind him, and he can redeem his career.

However, for all the anti-Freeman tribe – he is the poster child for why we will NOT be selecting Fameis Jameis with the #1 overall draft pick…he was not mentally prepared for the NFL, neither is Fameis.

  26. Luther Says:

Freeman is a grown ass man and I have some doubts about that. For anyone to blame a coach for ruining his psyche is ridiculous.

  27. Eric Says:

Jameis has proven he can stand up to immense pressure.

    Two totally different people.

I agreed with everything that you said until you brought up famous Jameis. Winston I think showed a lot of poise and mental toughness while playing thru everything that he was going thru this past season. That guy seemed totally unfazed by all of the negative media and issues.

  29. Luther Says:

@Waterboy agreed. I think people are confusing their hate for the guy with his ability to produce on the field. He had a lot of excuses to perform poorly due to distractions but never let the off the field stuff affect him. Mentally, I would take him over Freeman or Mariota.

  30. Howard Cosell Says:

I hope he makes a comeback.
That would be a cool story (seriously).
He’s not a bad person from what I’ve heard.
He gave us the best season since Chucky with
    little supporting cast.
I think Schiano just came in like drill sergeant and it took away Freeman’s confidence.
The jump from Rah the bro to Sergeant Schiano was too much
for him. He got all melancholy and emo about it.

    Glad to see he’s fighting.

  31. Sick of this $hit Says:

    White Tiger
Already comparing Jfro to Winston, huh? Wow, how pathetic. Desperation is a stinky perfume, bro.
Lets see here, yeah, I can see how Freeman could be unprepared to play in the NFL, coming from Kansas State with the mecca of media and competition that that place is.
But, you are right about Winston. He couldnt possibly be ready for the NFL, what with all the media coverage every minute. Im sure he will piss his pants the first time he sees his name in the local paper. And we will forget about that National Championship game he played in. And the college playoffs, and all the other nationally televised games he WON.
We can just make believe Winston will crumble under the pressure of all those blackouts he will play in in his first year here in Tampa. And the scrutiny of great sports writers like White Tiger and Robert 9. It must be scary.

  32. Trubucfan22 Says:

The thing with winston is that he lost 1 game his entire college career. Under the protection of college football rules, he barely had any pressure. In the NFL he will be put in front of cameras and microphones 4 times a week. And when losses start piling up and the questions get tougher, how will he respond? How will a coach trying to trade you in the off season make you feel toward that coach? Freeman went through some tough stuff, I certainly would have snapped if I were in his shoes 2 years ago. Winston has had no pressure on him. In the media yeah, people talked about him. But he didn’t have mics in his face all day everyday. Not like what’s going to happen in the NFL. I think winston will be just fine. But let’s not act like Winston is a seasoned vet when it comes to adversity, he’s barely had any to deal with. It’s easy going when your team keep winning games every week.

  33. White Tiger Says:

The amount of crap Freeman went through with Ron Prince as his head coach in college – made what Fameis experienced seem like childs play.

…but lets say it’s similar. Was Freeman’s frail psyche due to the cumulative effect of too much pressure in college and the NFL and by idiot coaches at both levels? Was some of that because they showed athletic promise before they were mature enough to take the pressure? Who knows.

…now, Fameis is coming along with a similar background – and without much time to prepare for it, his pro career will ramp up pressure to levels he’s never seen before…and if he goes #1 overall…that pressure’s going to be incredible. He can’t escape it, and that’s what’s troubling. Does he have the coping skills to be able to handle it?

If you don’t think a coach can snap a players psyche – you’ve never worked for someone that can make your life hell for as long as it takes, regardless of how well you’ve performed in the past.

It can take a toll. If you’re not prepared for it and you don’t have good comping skills or you already have a track record of making poor decisions off the field…it’s not going to get better when they pour money over you.

  34. Buczilla Says:

I think StPete Bucs Fan meant to say Chucky got Wyche’s talent over the hump. Dungy was a fantastic coach in many respects but could not get out of his own way with his ability to ignore even the basics of an acceptable NFL Offense.

We also know Chucky and Bruce brought in a ton of talented free agents to get us over the hump, so let’s not call it Dungy’s team. He should have notched a couple of Super Bowl wins in Tampa but he didn’t. It took Peyton Manning to provide the Yin to his Yang…

  35. Sick of this $hit Says:

Please name us some college kids that were 100 percent ready. There is doubt with all. There are questions with all. There are no guarantees. Yet for some reason, its, say the name Winston…. and insert negative comment here.
There is zero upside for Winston with some of you.
Ill say it again, its just pure blind hate. Its anti-Winstonism.

  36. Howard Cosell Says:

I’m a little Winstiphobic I have to admit.
Don’t trust that kid with millions of dollars in a city known for the Mons.

I went skiing in Aspen years ago. I said “I’m from Tampa” and they said
    “Mons Venus!”
    True story.

  37. Sick of this $hit Says:

And yes, I see how Price riding Freeman’s ass is comparable to the rape allegations with all the investigations, inquiries, and such.
Winston has shown nothing but brass stones as hes been dragged through all the media circus coverage. Hell, they are making a movie. And on top of all that, still able to hold it all together and play at a level that has more than half of the countries top paid, professional football minds saying hes still the best Qb and should be drafted above all, even Mariota.
But, you’re right. Freeman had it pretty rough.

  38. jh Says:

    Sign um.

  39. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

White Tiger…you’re hilarious you and Cosell with his Mons Venus worries..

but you no YOU…you’re over the top.

  40. Mister Niceguy Says:

I hope Freeman turns his life around. The change in him happened over the span of a year, and it ruined his life.

If he is getting things together again, he could end up being a very good quarterback.

He’ll never play for the Buccaneers again though.

  41. Mister Niceguy Says:

So far as mentoring winston? No. Freeman is nowhere near being anyone’s mentor at the moment. 4-5 years down the road? Maybe.

  42. Mister Niceguy Says:

    @87ForJameisNOMariota

Side story. The owner of the Mons is practically in my family, attends functions and the sort. My personal observation is that he is scum.

  43. Bucs4lyfe Says:

    @Couch Fan

pathetic that so many people are dumping on the guy as if you sat in the lockerroom yep everyone knows he had problems and all you nobody’s can criticize because your too unimportant to be noticed. everyone in life has up’s and down’s like glennon’s career, if freeman sucks that bad then what would you say about glennon. who did more in their first 2 years? glennon got schiano fired and lovie thinks he’s garbage and wouldn’t give him the chance and getting the nod over josh mccown is nothing to brag about……still waiting for someone to step up and mention who still holds most of the bucs passing records because it ain’t glennon. wish josh nothing but the best too bad schiano stupid and stubborn, how can you split reps with a rookie but give the vet the start knowing he didn’t practice enough and think your team is gonna be ready since you dump on freeman I can dump on the gay schiano glennon relationship, freeman was so inaccurate didn’t take care of the ball but you barely pay him in preseason as if your so sure he’s gonna be ready don’t be fools….freeman may have off field issues but he’s better than glennon

  44. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Watch him head up to Philly and lead them to the super bowl

  45. Teacherman777 Says:

Anybody defending josh freebase is a moron.

He didnt study, he didnt work. He didnt care about winning.

    He was a diva partier.

    Thats it.

He is one of the most physically blessed QB’s of all time.

And he did nothing with his blessing except spit in gods face!

    ——————————-
This pretty much sums things up. The notion that Schiano ruined him is hysterical.

I’d feel differently if he asked for help while a Buc, instead he ran crying to the national media with lies that had legal ramifications.

Find a GM who would bring this guy in…. you’d be looking at a fool.

  47. bucrightoff Says:

He shouldn’t be allowed back into the league until the NFLPA investigation comes out, but we know that’s never gonna happen. PA will never say one of its members tried to sabotage an NFL franchise.

  48. Bucs4lyfe Says:

it’s nothing to do with defending him….why is it there’s every excuse in the world for glennon but no one else on this team. so glennon is so bad he’s no better than a freebaser? lol im not defending freeman and he’s not on this team anymore so it’s irrevelant but you got to admit that based on glennon’s history in the NFL that to say he’ll go to philly and win a superbowl sounds absolutely stupid and crackheadish….now your a moron to say something like that…..at no point in his career will he be able to be a pass rush and guess what there will always be a pass rush, if you have to have the best offensive line in the league just for your quarterback to be good he’s useless…..i’ll just let you keep thinking a guy that who throws 50 times and only comes up with 216 yards is superbowl bound

  49. AK Says:

Freeman got every friggin excuse in the book while he was here and still is now that he’s gone.

  50. AK Says:

Hey, Bucs4lyfe? This article/thread had nothing to do with Glennon so why are you bashing him repeatedly? That poster was referring to Freeman going to Philly and using hyperbole in stating he’d win a Superbowl.

  51. THETRUTH Says:

Freeman got the Shuan King disease “fat cat” thought he could walkin and not have to compete for job and yes he was partying hard in south tampa with a crowd that wasn’t looking out for his best interest.

WISH THE GUY WELL HE SEEMS LIKE A NICE JUST GOT BAD APPLES AROUND HIM GIVING HIM ADVISE.

As for Gruden please stop people!!!! more than half the team hated the guy cause he would lie to their face on a weekly basis and that I got from players I knew from back then.

the offensive genius who could not find a way to put Galloway (fastest guy we every had) on the field !!! said Mike Alstott could not be a RB full back only, yet when he got the ball mike would blow up everytime…

wow, and remember he has loved every player and wants them o his team ever since he stopped coaching.

  52. OAR Says:

“the offensive genius who could not find a way to put Galloway (fastest guy we every had) on the field”
So Gruden couldn’t find a way to get Galloway on the field? Galloway put up 3700 yds and 28 tds his first four years under Gruden.
As for Alsott, his attempts/numbers in his first year under Gruden were on par with his averages. Unfortunately, he was never the same after his collision with Jurevicius in 2003.

Most everyone here is like “man up”. It’s not so easy sometimes.

Suc4life. Why do you keep bringing Glennon up in every article? Oh yeah, you’re a nob.
