FoxSports.com reports the Bucs have interviewed 49ers OC Greg Roman for the same gig with Tampa Bay.

Well, well, well. Joe is happy someone with influence over at One Buc Palace reads Joe. As it seems, the Bucs conducted their first interview for the vacant offensive coordinator gig, and that was with 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

The Bucs’ braintrust didn’t just go to the Rose Bowl to have a few beers and check out (future) quarterback Jameis Winston. (more…)

Bucs Opening(s) Coveted

Friday, January 2nd, 2015

Joe has learned former NFL offensive assistant and college head coach Charlie Weis would love to work with Lovie Smith.

Recently re-signed receiver Louis Murphy and tight end Brandon Myers stated, in part, they wanted to be with the Bucs for the soon-to-come turnaround.

Murphy, in particular, said he believes in Lovie Smith and is convinced the Bucs will soon be a force in the NFC South.

Those two players are not alone. (more…)

Under The Hood Of Greg Roman

Friday, January 2nd, 2015
49ers OC Greg Roman's resume seems to fit Lovie Smith's philosophy.

49ers OC Greg Roman’s resume seems to fit Lovie Smith’s philosophy.

Joe first wrote about the possibility of the Bucs and 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman back in November 2013. Then, Joe tossed out the idea of Roman replacing then-Bucs commander Greg Schiano, if Team Glazer wanted to make a change.

Joe is still intrigued by Roman. Doing a bit of research, Roman’s numbers won’t win over the fantasy football-types. (more…)

More Support For Rob Chudzinski

Friday, January 2nd, 2015
A hiring of Rob Chudzinski could signal a Marcus Mariota pick.

Hiring Rob Chudzinski could signal a Marcus Mariota pick.

Yesterday’s Rose Bowl, in which FSU’s rotten defense couldn’t slow down Oregon and quarterback Marcus Mariota — who would have thunk that? — it seemed to do nothing but reinforce everyone’s pregame opinion of who the Bucs should draft at quarterback.

ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas was intrigued by Mariota prior to the Rose Bowl. (more…)

Lovie Smith got shot down

Pounding the pavement for potential offensive coordinators/gurus led the Bucs to a guy with a load of diverse experience.

But his current employer wasn’t interested in letting him to talk. (more…)

Leonard Johnson

Leonard Johnson rode a big rollercoaster this season, one that ended on the rise.

Nickel cornerback Leonard Johnson really had an up and down season, much like his career has been up and down.

In 2012, the undrafted rookie had three interceptions in limited time playing plenty of man coverage on the outside, as he soaked up mentoring from one of his boyhood heroes: Ronde Barber. (more…)

Jameis Watch: “Edge: Winston”

Friday, January 2nd, 2015

Jameis WinstonCrab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida. (more…)

“I Think There Was Panic”

Friday, January 2nd, 2015
The "Custodian of Canton" said folks who wears suits at One Buc Palace were in panic watching the Bucs nearly lose the Chase for Jameis.

The “Custodian of Canton” believes folks who wear suits at One Buc Palace panicked watching the Bucs nearly lose the Chase for Jameis.

Not even copious amounts of alcoholic beverages over the past couple of days with friends and neighbors have shaken Joe’s memories of the win of a loss Sunday, when the Bucs nearly gagged away the Chase for Jameis and lost the first overall pick in the draft.

Watching the game unfold, Joe had the very same feeling he had when he was watching Lovie Smith and his then-Bears squad unable to beat the Packers in 2010. (more…)

What Does An Average QB Look Like?

Friday, January 2nd, 2015

cam newton 0904NFL.com ranked starting quarterbacks in 2014, and while it’s a no-brainer that Josh McCown was in the basement with guys like Ryan Lindley, Blake Bortles and the medley of Titans gunslingers, Joe finds it noteworthy to see who ranked as average. (more…)

Let the game begin!

Joe knows you’re watching, and Bucs general manager Jason Licht is there studying the sidelines, and more.

Bang it here in the comments section all game long. Slug it out/celebrate with fellow Bucs fans. (Keep in mind Joe’s had some issues with comments getting delayed, but Joe will be monitoring and trying to keep everything smooth.)

Joe’s rooting for both quarterbacks, though Joe is confident Jameis Winston will shine.

Kickoff is 5 p.m.

Johnthan Banks is Mic’d Up.

No, Johnthan Banks isn’t talking about a New Year’s buffet or a backyard barbecue. No, he’s talking about the defense of the Bucs.

In another cool “Mic’d Up” episode, the second-year corner for the Bucs, perhaps one of the more underrated players on the team, is wired for sound. (more…)

Donald Penn Graded High

Raiders LT Donald Penn, who was jettisoned by the Bucs last spring, finished with a strong 2014.

Joe will never forget it.

The day the Bucs blew the dogwhistle, calling in the Tampa Bay pen and mic club to One Buc Palace to introduce their brand new free agents, Anthony Collins and Michael Johnson included, was the very same day incumbent left tackle Donald Penn was told his services were no longer wanted. (more…)
