There are plenty of ways to evaluate Mike Glennon through his five starts this season. Hopefully, Lovie Smith will do the only smart thing and keep starting Glennon through December.
Using the most basic of measuring sticks, Glennon had two strong starts — Pittsburgh and New Orleans — followed by three bad ones against the Ravens, Vikings and Browns. [read more]

Greg Schiano now has a lab, sings and hangs out with Chucky, among other hobbies.
As we stand here on Election Day 2014, looking at the pathetic carcass knows as the 1-7, sometimes-totally-hapless Bucs, the days of Greg Schiano as head coach don’t look so bad, do they?
Schiano was ousted in December after a tumultuous season that saw MRSA poison his locker room and kill the career of his All-Pro left guard while his franchise quarterback went mental.
Oh, Schiano is still around. [read more]

Guess who Lovie Smith says is doing a “super job?”
Joe’s not trying to go overboard here. When the dust settled on the loss to the Browns on Sunday, the much improved Bucs rushing attack was simply OK.
Tampa Bay chunked 4.3 yards per carry, below the league average. [read more]

Joe has been riding the Johnthan Banks train ever since, with Darrelle Revis injured, Banks was re-assigned to cover Calvin Johnson and locked him up.
Now on his seventh different defensive coordinator in as many years (high school, four different coordinators in college and two in the NFL), Banks seems to have learned Lovie’s defense quicker than a veteran like Alterraun Verner. [read more]

Who was trying to steer Gerald McCoy away from signing with Tampa Bay?
Despite scant help around him, a steady diet of double teams, and missing a game and a half with a broken hand, Gerald McCoy ranks second among NFC defensive tackles in sacks and is third in the league at the position. [read more]

Tom Krasniqi
As most of you know, “TKras,” Tom Krasniqi and smooth-talking Ronnie Lane of WDAE-AM 620, embarked on a new weekday morning radio show yesterday.
Krasniqi, who is also the Bucs reporter for WDAE-AM 620, also host an “Overtime” show after each Bucs games.
Often in these shows, “TKras” does not hold back. Sunday was one such day. [read more]

If Bucs rookie wide receiver Mike Evans hasn’t had a breakout party, yet, he sure had one Sunday. Evans showed why he was so coveted by Bucs brass when he hauled in seven passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
These were not ordinary catches, either. We are talking acrobatic, back-shoulder catches that made Joe’s head shake. [read more]

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.
It’s Joe’s regular nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.
Joe is truly torn between who he would pick: Florida State uber quarterback Jameis Winston or Oregon’s running, scrambling Marcus Mariota. [read more]

Will Oneil Cousins take over the starting left tackle job? Offensive line coach George Warhop weighs in.
Lovie Smith insisted today that Mike Glennon is his choice — for now — at quarterback. The Bucs have a couple of good QBs, Lovie said, and whoever plays gives the Bucs the best chance to win. You’re seeing Glennon because he’s the choice.
But what about revived fill-in left tackle Oneil Cousins? [read more]

Billy Winn explains what he saw on the Bucs’ offensive line
The Buccaneers’ blocked field goal attempt yesterday was a heinous moment in team history.

Lovie Smith’s special teams coach and guru Kevin O’Dea has had a rough year
Yes, the Bucs’ defense has a learning curve under Lovie Smith’s brand of the Tampa-2. That was asserted months ago by experts like Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp, in addition to Lovie.
The offense? Of course, a new playbook came with Jeff Tedford, and Joe’s sure changes have been made since his departure.

“If I tell Marcus Arroyo to run the ball, I might hurt his feelings.”
Joe doesn’t think he can highlight this lowlight enough. A head coach of an NFL team, who has an incompetent as an acting offensive coordinator, largely due to fate and bad fortune, apparently doesn’t have control over said understudy.
That is the only thing Joe can figure out after Lovie Smith stated after the game he wished his team would have run the ball more in the second half. [read more]

Joe just wants to wing a beer bottle against the wall he gets so p!ssed off when he hears Bucs fans whine about the evils of having a good quarterback.
Joe swears too many Bucs fans would be be happy with no quarterback on the roster, just another running back to hand the ball to.
“Defense wins championships,” they coo as they hug their teddy bears tight, and plant their thumbs firmly in mouth while gazing dreamily at their Fathead poster of Father Dungy. [read more]

Is Mike Glennon running himself out of a job?
It was not the best performance for the quarterback of the future and the quarterback of the present (?), Bucs starter Mike Glennon.
It wasn’t the worst, either.
Glennon had surprisingly decent blocking, especially with the notorious Oneil Cousins at left tackle. Yet his numbers were, well, pedestrian. When the Bucs needed him the most, Glennon didn’t deliver. [read more]

A long look at the Bucs yesterday, today, and what to expect tomorrow and beyond.

You know why the Bucs are horrible this year? You know why the Bucs stink out loud? It starts at the top with Lovie Smith.

The Bucs defense improved without passive safety Mark Barron.
Despite what the players say, Joe thinks the Bucs defense is improving. Yeah, really. The Bucs held the Vikings to 13 points last week (in regulation) and the Browns to 22 (and honestly, the special teams gave up 11 points to the Browns’ offense).
Bucs players have told Joe, no, the defense hasn’t turned the corner. But Joe can see it, especially yesterday. [read more]
