Preseason Game 3

Browns at Bucs

Kickoff: 8 p.m.

TV: This is a nationally televised game available on your local CBS affiliate. In the Tampa Bay area, that would be WTSP-TV, Channel 10. (Game rebroadcast on NFL Network Saturday at 4 a.m. and Monday at 10 a.m.)

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network (WDAE-AM 620 and WFUS-FM 103.5 in Tampa-St.Petersburg region); SiriusXM Channel 108.

Weather: Nice night for football. While there is expected to be thunderstorms for early tailgaters — hey, it’s west-central Florida in late-August, what do you expect? — by the time kickoff arrives, it should be about perfect. Per AccuWeather.com, expect the temperature to be 84 at the start of the game under partly cloudy skies. By game’s end, temperature sure cool to 81.

Odds: Per FootballLocks.com, Bucs -3.5.

Outlook: Two-fold goal for the Bucs. First, get the starters plenty of work, likely into the third quarter. Second, for crying out loud, don’t get hurt! But there are other goals. Dirk Koetter surely wants to see signs of his offense getting into the elusive fast start. Second, can the offensive line defend against a three-man front of the Browns? It would also be nice to see if a No. 4 receiver can establish himself. Sure, Russell Shepard may be the No. 4 receiver on the depth chart, but thus far in games, Shepard has looked more shaky than solid. If he could have a strong game, it would give Joe and other Bucs fans more rest at night. Another area is tight end. Can Cam Brate secure his first-team gig or will tweety Austin Seferian-Jenkins unseat him with a stellar game?  Joe also would like to see how the backup linebackers perform. None has locked down a job just yet. Also, Joe will pay keen interest to the play of Alterraun Verner and Vernon Hargreaves. If Hargreaves shines under the lights for the third straight preseason game, then he may just be your right starting cornerback come Sept. 11.

And here are seven more things to keep an eye on.

Forecast is above, a weekly staple of Gameday Tampa Bay.

  20. Buccfan37 Says:

Is anybody else without electricty for an hour and 45 minutes and counting and heavy rains? Duke Energy won’t even assess the supposed lightning damage to its equipment and give a clue of how long until service is restored like normal outages.
