The Bucs offensive line was a total jailbreak yesterday
Based on game film Lovie Smith watched when he was first hired nearly a year ago, it was pretty clear the Bucs’ offensive line was the very first thing he was going to work on, sleeves rolled up.
And he did. He gutted it. The only starter left was right tackle Demar Dotson.
Joe would like to know what Lovie was watching on film of the new Bucs offensive linemen. [read more]

Duck, or Goose?
It’s that time of year, when all those fancy draft experts start emerging with their genius.
Joe’s favorite last year was the lunacy that Teddy Bridgewater wasn’t strong enough for the NFL. Damn, if the Bucs had only drafted him. Damn, how easily they could have traded up for him like Minnesota did.

Joe takes his weekly Monday look at the state of the Bucs, and more.
With the exception of Mike Evans, Joe cannot think of anything good about the Bucs offense. It is really, really bad. Vincent Jackson is OK, but then it drops off.
Bobby Rainey has his moments. Doug Martin is finally starting to learn to keep his head up and look for room. After that, pppffft.
And to think the Bucs actually have the gall to try to coerce innocent football fans in the Tampa Bay area to pay for this tripe? [read more]

Few coaches survive leading their teams to the first pick in the draft.
Joe has always believed if you are not going to win, then lose badly. Real bad. Bad as in the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
Joe is well-aware this goes against every fiber of DNA within players and coaches coach. Understandable. However, every NFL executive alive, if pulled aside and asked, all things being equal, would you rather have the No. 1 pick or the No. 5 pick, he (she?) will answer No. 1 (so long as their job was secure). Might Team Glazer have a powerful vote in NFL Draft planning?
The Buccaneers are on the clock. Sort of.
No NFL team has a record worse than the Bucs’ 2-11 mark. And Tampa Bay — for now — is looking good with a miserable strength of schedule, the tiebreaker for draft position. [read more]

A Hollywood screenwriter couldn’t concoct the stuff that’s happened during this Bucs season. And you thought Greg Schiano, The MRSA and sleepy, leaky Josh Freeman was a fictional horror movie.
This year’s show includes horror, comedy, tear-jerkers and more. [read more]

Matthew Stafford completed 76 percent of his passes today, and there was plenty of variety in the Lions’ aerial attack.
The Tampa Bay defense looked much like it did early in this loose stool of a season.
So what should make a Bucs fan feel good about his team these days? Sadly, that’s a tough question. [read more]

Hand the keys to George Warhop
The Bucs must most disorganized group of professionals on offense that Joe has seen since The Three Stooges pretended to be plumbers and wrecked a mansion.
Joe’s not a big numbers guy but sometimes numbers say it all. In this case, you will want to reach for a bottle of Jack Daniels to chug. The Bucs had a grand total of 26 yards rushing.. Twenty-freaking-six!
The Bucs also committed five penalties for 50 yards. That’s nearly twice as many yards coughed up on penalties than yards rushing.
That is flat out embarrassing! [read more]

Attention Mike Glennon Mob. Lovie has spoken.
Josh McCown is not a starting quarterback in the NFL. He stinks. He is erratic. He is turnover-prone. He throws into triple coverage. He is all but assured to fumble a snap every game.
As Joe has written before, starting McCown is the equivalent of bringing a butter knife to a gunfight.
After getting beaten up today by the Lions, Bucs coach Lovie Smith may have (finally) seen enough. [read more]

Man, there is really only one reason to watch the Bucs this year. It has been the play of wide receiver Mike Evans.
If overlord of football operations Lovie Smith got one thing right this past offseason, it was drafting the rookie from Texas A&M. Man, he is something special, as he again tore apart an opposing defense, scoring two touchdowns today. [read more]

Why did McCoy continue after a first-quarter dislocated kneecap injury?

Joe documented how sorry and small folks were for such nonsense. [read more]

Joe can’t take it any longer. If Josh McCown is your Bucs starting quarterback next season, then this team has no hope. And season ticket sellers at One Buc Palace have no hope to earn commissions.
McCown is the NFL equivalent of bringing a knife to a gunfight.
It is pointless, hopeless and, quite frankly, irresponsible of any coaching staff to hoist this career third-stringer as some angel that can lead a team to a .500 season much less a playoff berth — even in the dreadful NFC South. [read more]

Comment right here with fans, all game long.
The Bucs, in the thick of the fight for the top overall pick in the 2015 draft, are in Detroit to play the fight-for-a-playoff-berth Lions.
Who wants it more, the Bucs and the draft pick or the Lions and the playoffs?
Things sure have turned. For the longest time, the Lions battled for top draft picks and the Bucs had dreams of January games dancing in their heads. That, friends, is all you need to know about the State of the Buccaneers. [read more]
