Greg Cosell Talks To Joe

Greg Cosell of NFL Films.

One cool thing about the NFL Scouting Combine is it’s like a corporate family reunion. Aside from the coaches, general managers and scouts and college players who invade Indianapolis, so too do NFL insiders.

It’s an NFL winter festival.

Anyone who is anyone in the NFL arrives in Indianapolis, including NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell, who was kind enough to give Joe a moment to talk about the Bucs.

JoeBucsFan: Your overall impressions of Jameis Winston’s rookie season?

Greg Cosell: I thought he had a really solid rookie season. I think ultimately he is going to have to work on his lower body and get a little quicker. I think he realizes that seeing quotes recently. I think he realizes he is fast but he’s going to have to get a little faster, just with his feet. But I think as far as understanding what he was looking at and where to throw it, I thought he improved dramatically. And I think he had a really good season to build upon.

Joe: A good number of Bucs fans, for some strange reason, seemingly want to run Gerald McCoy out of town and replace him with Da’Quan Bowers. Guessing they expect McCoy to get 15 sacks a year …

Cosell: OH!

Joe: … you watch tape of all the games, you are objective. What is your breakdown on Gerald McCoy?

Cosell: I think Gerald McCoy is a really good player. I think because he is not a 15-sack guy, I think people have a misunderstanding of him. And it is also a function of the fact [the Bucs] don’t have any edge rushers. If they had edge pass rushers, Gerald McCoy would be viewed as a superstar, which he is pretty much close to anyway. There are not many three-technique d-tackles with his skill set. So he is a really terrific player.

  8. DB55 Says:

You know who else was a misunderstood superstar? The Adorable Adrian Adonis. And he could easily handle 15 sacks.

Gerald McCoy is a great player. When are we gonna trust in what we have and address the real needs on this team I could less if people love him or hate him He plays hard and hurt BUT without a D end the Bucs have wasted his talents and I think that would have be addressed had we not had such a glaring need for a QB. McCoy is once every twenty year type player that always dreamed of playing here its just silly and stupid to rip this guy for not having 15 sacks. Some Bucs fans to go to some type of football seminar or something or just listen to respected people all over the league that think McCoy is top 5 defensive player period… Give him the support he deserves and the tools to be successful

I am embarrassed for all Bucs fans that Joe is running around telling all manner of NFL folk that “a good number of Bucs fans…want to run Gerald McCoy out of town”. It makes us sound collectively stupid.

Just because Ian Beckles and a handful of vocal JBF commentors are McCoy hating idiots that rag on Gerald constantly because they are not smart enough to understand his importance to this team – does not mean that “many” or “a good number” of Bucs fans want him gone.

Please stop saying this to NFL insiders Joe – for the love of God – just stop it.

yea Joe, please don’t do that. As those idiots beat a child’s drum…real Buc fans, real football fans period know what we have in #93. So yea I’m feeling some kind of way with your thoughts of us in general. WE LOVE #GMC
Get him some help on the line, our CBs are fine IMHO, sign 2 DEs, draft one and then go
    Offense
#3 is our future. Get him more help too

Hey Pick……..I really like ya but I’m also trying to survive here. Anonymity is a really cool thing sometimes
