Joe’s a big fan of The Peter Schrager Podcast, and the artist known as Peter Schrager, one of the top NFL insiders for FOXSports.com and a popular sideline reporter on TV.

Of course, Joe listened to Schrager’s latest podcast, in which he and Mike Garafolo, another FOX NFL guy, shared all kinds of nuggets they learned while mingling with team executives and agents at the NFL Scouting Combine last week.

Schrager dropped a bomb that had Joe rewinding: Miami Dolphins running back Lamar Miller is seeking a bigger contract than Doug Martin is.

Miller turns 25 next month. Martin turned 27 last month.

Miller has never been a bellcow back like Martin has been, and he’s no two-time Pro Bowler like Martin, but Miller is faster, has better hands, and about 25 percent less mileage on his tires.

Bottom line: there’s no way in hell Joe would pay Miller more than Martin, especially not after Miller waved a red flag on himself with a me-first attitude.

Well Joe you better start warming up to the idea that Martin and Miller want to get paid $8 million a year so come draft time that best player available will be Ezekiel Elliott hopefully the bucs will sign a couple of DE in free agency and we can use the rest of our picks on defense

  2. Guzzie Says:

Imagine how good Jwin would be with a leveon bell type running back for the next 8 years!! Our defense would do really well while they sit on the bench with our unstoppable offense running over teams then getting Evans one on one all game and Asj over the middle it’ll be unreal

  3. Guzzie Says:

Heck I seem to remember we didn’t need a running back one year and instead reached for a defensive end with the 3rd pick Gaines Adams would’ve really nice if we grabbed that running back we didn’t need I forget that guys name it was Adrian something???? Not saying Ezekiel is another AP but what if he turns out to be one of the next greats while spence or Buckner turn out to be just ok

  4. Espo Says:

    Guzzie

Nice to know someone else is up at this hour.

Bold moves will make or break Licht. Ezekiel will not be one of them. Not unless we trade down multiple times and somehow end up with more than one first rounder. I don’t see that happening.

There was no way we could’ve foreseen Gaines having health problems. I’m sure that contributed to his lack of motor. Cadillac was running hard and hadn’t been injured yet, so drafting AP made no sense. Man this is depressing me thinking of all our past injury bugs.

  5. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Guzzie that type is Cal’s Daniel Lasco and for a hell of lot less money. And yes I’ve also done the breakdown in my mind of what this offense will become with that type of back. It is my belief that is why DM’s days in the bay are done. Koetter’s vertical scheme wont require a ground-&-pound 300 touches a year rb. Insteada rb that is capable between the tackles has the ability to get to the edge and is natural pass-catcher. YouTube Lasco you’ll see what I mean.

  6. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I’m telling y’all Koetter wants a dual threat on 1st and 2nd downs not just 3rd downs when Sims comes in. Lovable required a “bellcow” Koetter has the keys now imo he wants something a little different.

  7. KevinM Says:

    100% agree Guzzie

  8. CC Says:

Doug Martin was arguably the best player on the Bucs last year. Without him breaking tackles for extra yards and setting up managae down and distance. This offense would have sucked.Big mistake letting him go.

  9. Espo Says:

I guess our O line and (finally) unpredictable play calling had nothing to do with it? Dougie is good but replaceable. It’s all about opening holes. Barry Sanders is the only running back to have success without a line.

  10. Pete Says:

    I agree with CC.

  11. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    I agree with Espo..

  12. Aristotle Says:

Running backs are a dime a dozen now, other than AP, running backs don’t get you to the playoffs, Drafting D-Line wins championships

  13. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

DM was the best player on the offense last season??? Maybe. All I know is that offense looked alot different to my eye without Vjax. Im just sayin.

  14. Danati74 Says:

Big mistake by Licht. D. Martin killed it last year. Something like only 7 RB rushed for 1000yrds last year. If you want Lasco….He is already on our team in Sims. Doug is one of our own…and as we do….we let good players walk. Ask some of the Buc players if they want Doug back. They would know better.

  15. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Adrian Peterson is injured a lot, as I recall.

I imagine all the RBs “want” to get paid more. Doesn’t mean it will happen.

    @Danati74
Careful…saying anything bad about Licht around here will get you attacked by trolls. “In Licht we trust” is the theme here.

I disagree, and have been attacked plenty.

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I will say this…I’m not prepared to judge Jason Licht for the Martin situation just yet. There is still time to get a deal done…and if there is good reason to not get a deal done, then I won’t hold it against him.

I have plenty of other things to hold against Jason Licht.

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

One more reason to pass on Lamar Miller. He’s not even half as good as Doug. Blow Lamar Miller a kiss and he’s tackled down!
Shouldn’t even be in the conversation.

  18. Waterboy Says:

Miller will be in for a rude awakening next week.

  19. Guzzie Says:

Daniel Lasco in the 4th or 5th is cool, he doesn’t break many tackles but he’s got good speed and catches ball well, my personal favorite is c j Prosise from notre dame big fast and used to be a WR not much experience but dynamic playmaker

  20. theodore Says:

RB Toby Gerhart sign right away in FA and scored big, got more than other, better RBs out there. Martin should be careful holding out for the “best” deal.

  21. Another J Says:

Lamar Miller will never get paid more money than Doug Martin.

  22. Espo Says:

I am officially throwing my name in the hat. I will run through huge blocking lanes for league minimum and a chance to say I told you so. I will break as many tackles as Dougie in years 2 and 3 (like 0?) and I’d aim at becoming the only running back to get flagged for helmet to helmet contact, because that’s what my helmet is there for.

  23. Espo Says:

Arian Foster available now . Who needs healthy knees anyways?

  24. BigHogHaynes Says:

This is the NFL you don’t worry about another teams running back unless you play them he next week, you only worry about the running back on your team and what he doing! DOUG don’t deserve this kind of disrespect, he did what was asked and now he has to put up with this BS, I wouldn’t blame him if he left for less money! Good luck with Sir Charles, he ain’t no DOUGI!!

  25. CrustyCrab Says:

No pay the man yesterday it was sign Miller he’s the younger of the two.

  26. Trubucfan22 Says:

I think that is plausible. He is younger and faster. You can’t just look at production for his worth, because of the way Miami used him. You pay for the way you would use him. Not how his last team used him. I have no idea how durbale he is, if he could take on an every down role. Or if he has the wind for it. But his talent level is up there among the top 10 rbs.

  27. Kevin Schmidt Says:

Thatsb so sad, gaines adams over adrian peterson. Drafting for need. Gotta stay away from it!!!
