Guest column by The Optimist
Once upon a time on JoeBucsFan.com, Joe used to share the words of THE OPTIMIST each week. THE OPTIMIST is Bucs fan and writer Nick Houllis, a lifelong supporter who wrote about the Bucs for years — even for the Washington Post — and still drops some thoughts at BucStop.com.
Given these very trying times for Bucs fans, Joe thought it would be a good time to call upon THE OPTIMIST for his thoughts. He will shine that positive light in your eyes — like it or not. THE OPTIMIST’s views are his own.
We have waited a long time for a franchise QB to make his way to Tampa Bay, so we can watch NFL Highlights and see our guy throwing TDs instead of all the others.
Finally, we have our own right here and it’s overdue for the Jameis Winston questioners to put away their pencils and paper; the exam is over. Grade is in. [read more]
Says Bucs have difficult choice looming.
If you are scoring at home — if so, Joe is envious — let the record show that to Joe’s knowledge, Jason Whitlock may be the first national talking head to suggest Jameis Winston’s days with Tampa Bay are numbered. [read more]
Dirk Koetter weighs in
As Kevin Pamphile approaches his 27th birthday later this month – and the expiration of his rookie contract soon after — it’s really, really, really time for the Bucs to let him play full-time. [read more]
BY IRA KAUFMAN
If you know a good local soothsayer, drop me a line.
A week after breaking into the positive column, my picks against the spread returned to the shredder. A 5-7 mark dropped me to 52-79 for the season, so it’s safe to say that 53 percent success rate I’ve been shooting for is well out of reach.
All I can do now is try to be respectable down the stretch, starting with this weekend’s slate of games.

Big arrows hitting Jameis
Arguably the most powerful and reasoned voice in NFL media, the guy that has the ear of every owner and general manager, ProFootballTalk.com guru Mike Florio, has weighed in distinctly on the new sexual groping accusation fired at America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. [read more]

Todd feels for you DeMarco Murray owners. He’s not one of them, but he does feel for you. Murray is this year’s example of the player many of you drafted to be your top running back, underperformed early, dealt with weekly injuries and frustrated you to the point where you considered benching him, trading him or cutting him. Then he goes off for three touchdowns last week and does barely anything the very next game.
Meanwhile, Antonio Brown just reminded everyone why he’s just the opposite type of fantasy player. Todd looks at every game on Sunday and Monday and gives you fantasy thoughts for each team, whether you are looking for the right lineup in your season league or you are putting together DFS teams for the weekend. Remember, Todd’s email is ToddWrightFantasyFootball@gmail.com if you need anything he doesn’t cover in this podcast. Seriously, write him. He will write back. He has all year. To everyone.
Besides, Todd is in a very good mood after playing Streamsong Black yesterday with his pal Whit Watson from Golf Channel and both of them posted exceptional rounds. Whit is just going to make fun of Todd for life now that on a course like Streamsong, where eagles are unthinkable, Todd left a 12 foot eagle putt short on #10. That’s the golf mistake you do not make, kind of like the fantasy football mistake of not starting Tom Brady because of a “tough matchup.”
