Bernard Reedy Cut; Freddie Martino Returns

November 17th, 2017

Cut after huge return

There’s quite a bustle at happy hour this evening in the velvet-lined lounge of the Vero Beach Ramada Inn, where Bucs wide receiver Freddie Martino is a favorite son.

Martino is back on the Tampa Bay 53-man roster today as Tampa Bay did more roster shuffling and waived punt returner/wide receiver Bernard Reedy.

Reedy returned 14 punts this year for an average of 10.2 yards per clip, better than Adam Humphries’ solid average of 9.9 yards last season. Reedy’s longest return of 44 yards came on Sunday. Ironically, if Martino had blocked the Jets punter better, Reedy would have gone the distance on that play.

Man, the NFL is a tough business.

If Reedy clears waivers, and he didn’t get cut for a naughty reason, Joe expects Reedy will be back on the practice squad or the roster very soon.

Good can we get vh3 to return punts now? He’s not a “starter” anymore. Not that it matters really. Lots of starters return punts.

  2. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I truly don’t understand this. Reedy has been the best punt returner we’ve had since Clifton Smith. Had Martino not screwed up that block, he would have had a punt return TD last week. So the reward for that is to cut Reedy and promote Martino? Not to mention Reedy is a local kid who does great things in the community. Makes no sense. Very disappointing. I was really cheering for Reedy.

  3. Bucssuccs Says:

Why licht? Reedy hasn’t had much success on punt returns because by the time he did get the ball, the other team was right in front of him. Oh, nice drafting of controversial Jameis. You sure did your homework correctly.

  4. Pickgrin Says:

Bottom of the roster shuffling. Wonder why though. Don’t see any WRs on the injury report.

Seems odd that Reedy would lose his return job just 5 days after his best punt return of the year…

Another baffling move by this very suspect front office.

  6. Supersam Says:

    Spit for spat

  7. Alaskan abdominal snowman Says:

So sad people on this site have their pitchforks out already. A guy who has done more in the community in a week that anyone here will do in a lifetime. Spent years rebuilding his reputation by being a model leader. Then what happens, a story comes out and whether its true or not doesnt matter. People are already assuming its true. Like damn you all have been waiting for 3 years to hit paste and say I told you so. Nothing has changed for me regarding Jameis. In my eyes he is innocent and theres just nothing in these reports to make me think he is guilty. If there is one thing I am disappointed in it’s if this girl really got groped by anyone in that car and J ameis was in the car. Why the hell didnt he stop it and why the hell does he still associate with scum.

With the gruden rumors increasing even after a win I think the staff is all in on saving their jobs and are going to march Djax out there. They marched Winston out there for a month hurt only until they realized the grip on their jobs was slipping because of it
Not a chance of that happening with D-Jax.–Joe

  9. Getaclue Says:

Djax cause their ass it even hotter and they won. Trying to save their jobs

  10. Roy T. Buford Says:

So why Martino? Do we see something coming with another WR other than Reedy?

Not to mention, Reedy is probably one of the only ones who has really been reliable.

  11. Getaclue Says:

With the gruden rumors heating up even more after a win I think they will trot djax out there for returns to try to save their job. They threw Winston out there hurt for a month only until they realized the grip on their jobs was slipping. That article with Chris sims talking about gruden going back to training camp and koetter was telling. I first bought the whole koetter doesn’t have time for non sense and is going back to work with the ten second press conference but now that they are saying glazer potentially has had a plan for gruden to return I think koetter is eating from the inside of he has any knowledge, he seemed irritated back then with him there before the season even started and it’s been story after story the last two weeks about gruden. His skin is cracking and they are desperate

  12. Getaclue Says:

I think they like Martino better as a wr if they are making that move it makes sense than having a return guy you don’t need

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is a simple answer for this move. Bucs brass miss Joe’s description of Martino and the Vero Beach Ramada Inn (not one there)…….

Reedy was only “Speedy” Reedy……no pizzazz.

Actually, Martino isn’t that bad of a receiver…has done OK with limited chances.

  14. Not there yet Says:

Just another thing not to like about this regime. Nobody cares about what this dude can do on the field we’ve already seen it. I wanna see Bobo Wilson and Peyton Barber already

  15. Lamarcus Says:

Maybe he groped the girl??? Lol jk

  16. Lamarcus Says:

I love bobo. Bobo will be good in this league

  17. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @Lamarcus
where has Bobo been why are we not seeing more of Barber?!

  18. Dom is gone Says:

Finally a roster move that makes since … dude can rush the passer. Winning streak here we come

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Martino is pretty good at WR.

But I figured we had plenty of WRs on the roster. Reedy was a great PR.

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

He drives the elderly around. He can get a job at Uber, maybe use Jameis as a reference.

  21. Lamarcus Says:

Man. Idk the wait on bobo. He looks better than Martino and reedy

  22. Joel Says:

Maybe Ready is the one who groped the Uber driver. He was signed in February of 2016.

Seems like an odd cut today.

  23. Mike n Says:

I love Freddy and glad he’s back!!! What happened to bobo? Is he still around on PS??

  24. ClwJB Says:

This move makes no sense at all…Joel might be on to something…

  25. Joel Says:

If he makes no return to the team, something is up…

  26. SB Says:

My son has come to love the term “Speedy Reedy” in the past couple months. Now I have to explain to him the business side of the NFL which I have no Idea how to do.

  27. ElioT Says:

    Who gives a f**k!!!!?????

Season has been over, they’re playing exhibition games for the remainder.

  28. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Another great move from J.L. what a joke

  29. Capt.Tim Says:

    Another F**cking stupid move

  31. Ed Says:

This is what happen when a man speaks out, on this team. What a joke grow up G.M. when a man ask for more playing time, you do not cut him.

  32. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Hard to believe that they cut Reedy, and promoted Martino.
Martino has been our best punt returner this year.

  33. g720 Says:

This freaking GM is a total assh…e and should be gone at end of season along with Smith and Koetter. Reedy shows good stuff on Punt Returns and has been a good receiver when Jameis actually can hit him. What a freaking joke this team has become!!!!
