Jameis “Reminds Me A Little Bit Of A More Talented Version Of Johnny Manziel”

November 18th, 2017

FS1 talking head says Jameis is the new Johnny Football.

You knew it was coming.

As soon as the news broke that Jameis Winston had been accused by a female Uber driver of grabbing her in a private area, emerging after an already ugly month for Jameis on and off the field, the depressing comparison would come.

Yes, Jameis is now in the same boat in many people’s eyes as Johnny Manziel, the notorious wunderkind quarterback from Texas who electrified fans with his devil-may-care football but that same devil-may-care act didn’t work off the field and his career is now in ashes.

Johnny Football won the Heisman Trophy the year before Jameis won his and Johnny Football’s career flamed out not so much for lack of productivity, but because of his off-the-field antics, which included a hassle with a woman.

So Joe did not blink when Colin Cowherd, on his FS1 weekday show, “Speak For Yourself,” basically said Jameis is the new Johnny Football.

“Well, it reminds me a little bit of a more talented version of Johnny Manziel,” Cowherd said. “I don’t want to be cynical, but drip… drip… drip… drip. Your life is a resume. I tell my kids that all the time, “What’s on your resume?” The questions I’ve always had about Jameis Winston weren’t arm, weren’t size, wasn’t leadership but judgment. And I think in his NFL career, I think his on-the-field question has been some judgement and I think his off-the-field, from college on, similarly.

“I thought this about Johnny Manziel. At first it was a little uncoachable, then it was the problem with the pictures at [Texas] A&M and then it was the money sign and then it was barking at a coach. And that’s when I said, ‘I can’t draft him.’

“You are going to tell me what you are. And emotionally, I am going to believe you.”

Joe has thought about this alleged incident a great deal from just about every angle there is and even if Jameis has evidence or testimony from witnesses that he did nothing, there is no way Jameis comes out of this unscathed. It is difficult to believe otherwise.

Given the fact NFL strongman Roger Goodell is hellbent on suspending half of the league, it’s very hard for Joe to see Jameis not having to serve a suspension, fair or unfair.

Hell, Goodell ignored his own investigative team that told him they didn’t have enough goods to pin on Ezekiel Elliott, who in a separate incident pulled a woman’s top off in public, and Goodell still nailed Elliott to a wall with a six-game suspension.

So what do you think Goodell will do with Jameis?

Nothing. No police report was filed this happened 19 months ago. It will go away. Strange how this did not come right after it happened??

  2. Wesley Says:

People are too quick to assume he’s guilty.

  3. Chris in WA Says:

Somehow in an alternate timeline where the Bucs drafted Marcus Mariota, I don’t see this being a news story. Jameis has been an embarrassment for this team on more than one occasion and you can see it in the players faces. This isn’t an example of the media running a campaign or conspiracy against him. Time and time again Jameis puts his own foot into his mouth on his own free will.

  4. FortMyersDave Says:

So if he had a ring Cowturd would say he was another Big Ben? Common Joe, I know Cowhead from his days at 820 back in the ’90s with Weingarten, Brantley and Korun but is the guy gospel???? The guy is just making waves!

Chris in WA: Mariota would be on the IR if he was behind our Buc OL. Guy has missed numerous games every year, fragile and average when compared…. Dislike Winston all you like but Mariota is not another Peyton Manning or Brady…. Did you see how pathetic he was on Thursday? 4 picks, if that was Winston you can imagine how the Buc “fans” would react….

  5. Buc1987 Says:

Chris in WA…I disagree it’s as if you know nothing about our team.

  6. What the Buc Joe? Says:

Never thought Joe would turn on America’s QB. To even write in your blog and quote Cowturd on comparing Winston with Johnny The Drunk!!! Also to write it’s hard for Joe to see Jameis not having to serve a suspension? For what Joe? Man said he didn’t do anything, so why Joe being a media credential holder with access to the team on any given day post garbage like this, especially without any facts????? Goodell is gonna do what he wants because he’s helped 32 billionaires get richer for years!!!! You think the Glazers will back Jameis Winston like Jerry Jones has Zeke? Guess we’ll see Joe when the freaking facts come out

  7. Chris in WA Says:

Please tell me which part you disagree with. Is it the part where I say Marcus Mariota wouldn’t be facing this story? Because he isn’t and hasn’t.

Is it the part where I say he has been an embarassment on more than one occasion? His very first throw was a pick 6. His antics in NO 2 weeks ago have made him a laughing stock around the leauge and among veterans/retires and even players at Stanford are mocking him. Look at the reactions of others around him when he did his pregame speech. Not counting the other crap he did in college such as the crab legs at Publix or jumping on a table shouting “FHRITP”. Even a few weeks ago when speaking to a bunch of kids he said that ladies should be silent.

Perhaps you disagree that Jamies isn’t making these dumb decisions on his own free will and it’s always someone else’s fault or he is just always the “worng guy in the wrong place” time and time again.

  8. unbelievable Says:

BSPN was just mentioning it earlier, they’re digging in full force now.

They tell the allegation and read winstons response, but no mention of the voicemail from uber that basically confirms there were multiple passengers in the car.

Whether true or not, this is gonna have huge implications for his career and our team.

  9. Tbbucs3 Says:

Can we please ban the words “Marcus Marriota” on this website. He has noth8ng to do with anything. Don’t know if you know this or not Chris in WA but the 2015 draft is OVER. Get over it. It’s obvious by the “WA” that you just a little west coast Marriotas fan boy. Marriotas SUCKS anyways.

  10. Joe Says:

Never thought Joe would turn on America’s QB.

Not turning. And not convicting either. But sure as hell not burying head in the sand.

  11. Chris in WA Says:

I’m in WA because I got stationed out in Bremerton for the Navy. I’m a Tampa native and a proud bucs fan since as long as I can remember.

Also people bring up the past all the time. How many times has Gruden been mentioned the past few weeks or people wanting to bring back Derrick Brooks to the organization? The jobs of Jason Licht and Koetter are going to be tied off of draft picks and the 2015 was among the one of the hugest ones in franchise history. Licht went with the risky Winston pick and time will tell if it was the right choice.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Jw is my fav player and I know he fked up

  13. Shane Says:

The original report said he was the only passenger. Ian Rappaport reported that there were multiple passengers per Uber’s statement. So far he’s telling the truth and she’s not.

  14. Burglife Says:

I love how when BSPN shows the statement they use the mean looking pic of Winston… lol

  15. Silent_Partner Says:

Yeah, aside from the tables of coke and booze next to another allegation that’s already looking shaky once you even look halfway into it (already have the number of passengers in the car wrong but I’m sure the lowly Uber driver is definitely telling the truth), yeah. But what do you expect from a guy who proclaimed boldly to anyone who would listen that he knew Mariota would be better. Funny how that’s gone quiet with him currently having more picks than TDs in year 3 on a way better team while Winston was second in the league in passing before he hurt his shoulder in week 3? Very objective source there.

As far as the predictable Buc fan delusion (kind of called it when the woefully unqualified Koetter was being elevated) that you idiots would turn on the one thing this regime has done right at the first instance you could. If anything, you’re predictable. For his sake, I do hope the Bucs make yet another stupid decision and get rid of him so he can go win with a real franchise like all of the other guys who have left and gotten their rings.

  16. Silent_Partner Says:

Predictable appearance of “I knew it guy,” and “this team sucks because of Winston” guy despite anyone with a brain telling you your team wasn’t that good coming into this year, and “too many allegations for me even if all of them are shaky” guy. Oh, and we can’t get “we should have drafted more picks than TDs Mariota” guy too on a team that’s run first if you’ve ever seen it. Never fails.

  17. Mbfists Says:

And his teammates voted him a captain…

  18. Laura DeMeo Says:

Silent_Partner….could not have have said it better. Too many Jaboo haters convicting the young man without any facts. This will all go away sooner rather than later…IMO.

  19. Clodhopper Says:

Speaking of Ezekiel Elliot, depending on how this fight with Jerry Jones goes, Goodell might adjust his punishment policy.

    Keep fighting, Jerry!!

  20. BUC MAN Says:

If any body cares , Coaching does make a Differents for a q/b ,That to say if Winston went to Tenn. And Mariota went to the Buc’s who’s to say he might have been better here than Winston, And if Winston went to Tenn, he might have been worse than Mariota……RIGHT !!!

  21. Pickgrin Says:

Wow really? So now Winston is the next Johnny Cabo just because an Uber driver says Winston touched her? A CLAIM WHICH HE THOROUGHLY DENIES.

SMH for publishing this story Joe – especially for your tone and agreeing in any way that Winston is or should be in “trouble” with King Goodell – even if and especially if Jameis is innocent of this allegation.

Manziel is a raging alcoholic who LOVES to party, drink and do drugs – who cares more about partying and hanging out with celebrities and being seen with ultra hot women than he cares about football.

Yea – that sounds JUST like Jameis Winston.
    SMFingH

You’re misreading the tone here, and Joe is not going to ignore the franchise QB getting killed by powerful voices in sports. Joe has always covered the national perspective on the Bucs — good and bad–Joe

  22. johnnybuc Says:

omg that guy is such a dope i can’t believe you actually wrote a article about this guy he’s been slobbering over marcus mariota ever since he torched us his first game and after throwing 4 picks last night he changes tune to oh he’ll probably never be a franchise qb. he’s a goof just says stuff he knows will get a reaction and comparing jameis to johnny manziel even tho they are totally different sutuations and characters

  23. Roy T. Buford Says:

IF, caveat IF, such incident occurred, and if Jameis was in the back seat and didn’t do anything, he won’t get suspended for not saying or doing anything to rectify the situation. But he will be shamed bigtime with the Bucs leadership and loathed by many fans (myself included)…and his trustworthiness and judgment from all will take a big hit. That means he’ll have to be even better on the field for people to tolerate him at all. A tall order. So, he will face some significant fallout even if he didn’t do it but it happened. So his career could very well take a hit; and as a Buc, it will be a huge hit. But no, Goodell won’t suspend him.

If there is enough info (statements from others in the car, interviews with Uber personnel) out there to corroborate that actually he himself did do it (and like Elliott, not talking about court-of-law style evidence, just pretty clear he did), he’ll get 6 games. And he should get six games. You don’t have to be found guilty in a court of law for your employer to discipline…or even fire you. But the fallout here at home will go much further than suspension. I expect he’ll go on IR and the Bucs will add “QB” to the mix of possible draft choices/considerations. It will wreck the Glazers plans…forcing a re-start with three years…and public stock in the team, wasted. And if the Bucs move along from Jameis, Koetter’s job would likely be less safe as well, since Winston has been huge in coaching decisions by the Glazers already. So I think if Jameis did it, AND lied about it to he public and to his team (worse perhaps that actually doing it), making the Bucs look bad, he’ll be gone faster than you can say “Jerramy Stevens.”

  24. Nate Says:

YOU JACKWAGONS……I WAS A JAMEIS FAN STILL AM BUT IF HE WAS MY FRIEND ID SAY YOU STUPID F**K……..

HE ADMITTED HE WAS IN THE CAR….WHY NOT COME OUT AND SAY I WAS IN THE CAR …

LOOK UBER SUSPENDED MY ACCT FOR THIS….SOMETHING HAPPENED THAT I GOT BLAMED FOR IT WASNT ME

???????? F**K MAN!!!!!! YOU STATE FANS JUST KEEP MAKING EXCUSES FOR HIM……

COME OUT AND SAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED WE WOULDNT BE TALKING ABOUT THIS BUT HE WANTED TO HIDE IT FOR A FRIEND , HIMSELF , OR WHOEVER

YOU THINK HE CAN TALK TO KIDS AFTER THIS ESPECIALLY AFTER THEY ALREADY GOT ON HIM FOR WAAAAAY LESS…..WAKE UP

  25. WyomingBucsFan Says:

I agree with pickgrin Joe’s. Don’t give this garbage media any help by publishing these allegations. Don’t follow the main stream media Joe’s, your better then that.

  26. The Buc Realist Says:

I am surprised on Joe’s misinformed take on NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell!!!!! If you think that Elliott was suspended for just lifting a shirt, then you need to do some research!!!!!!!!! He is not out to suspend half the league as alleged!!!!! But if you cheat the game or your name is in the news cycle for all the wrong reasons, then he will drop the hammer!!!!!!!!

If you don’t want to feel the wrath of the Commissioner, then all you have to do is stay out of trouble!!!!!!!!

  27. Bird Says:

Yah. Agree joe. This is a problem. There will be an investigation. His name will be smeared thru the mud again , rightfully or not rightfully so. But what does it do to the team. Glazers don’t want this attention. Now the media will be asking the GM and coaches for the next year a status on this allegation. And the other players who don’t want to be involved will be asked to answer questions about this incident and/or Jameis character which could divide the team just like what manziel did.

It comes down to this. It was Jameis uber account/his phone. So he was either the guy or knew who did it. Simple as that. From his side , he is saying he was one of a few passengers. She is saying one person was in car so someone is already lying right there. Will Jameis give up these alleged other passengers (who are probably his boys) to investigators. She is claiming a group of men told her they would be driving only Jameis. Who is the group of men that Jameis will give up. Not good either way

Do I think it was him. I would want to say no but cAnt do that. If he is able to meet be past this. He needs to keep his head down. I know that is not necessarily him but The rah rah doesn’t seem to be working and may be wearing on teammates who want him to back it up with wins. Personally I want my quarterback to keep quiet and simply tell the team I got this and go out and ball (aka Aaron Rodgers drew Bree’s Tom Brady). This franchise needs wins. Simple as that

  28. BigHogHaynes Says:

Please bury your head in the sand…..it’s a better look!! Joey !!!

  29. Supersam Says:

Licht has to be sick about all this, he put his next on the line for this pervert and this is how he rewards him? Licht won’t be able to get a job as a towel boy after this debacle, that doesn’t even include the pathetic football we are playing from the people he brought in.

  30. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The media has a RESPONSIBILITY to report this story!!! Nobody is trying to stab #3 in back in actual reporting.

Now there are opinion columnists…did you read Fennelly this morning? who are throwing #3 under the bus. Those are TWO different things.

I have been impressed with Joe since I arrived at this site a couple of years ago.
He has absolutely hewn to traditional journalistic standards. When he states his opinion he clearly identifies it as his opinion…when he reports facts he makes that just as obvious.

So far I haven’t detected Joe’s “opinion”…he’s largely just covering the facts.
I’m sure in time Joe will form a solid enough opinion to express it. I suspect he’s like a lot of us…we are huge fans of #3 but you can’t bury your head in the sand.

I can accept #3’s story that he did not touch the Uber driver. What bothers me the most is the part of his statement….”IF I made her uncomfortable I’m sorry.”

So that may have been simple trash talking but he’s going to have to “out” his friend at minimum to get through this and then the nagging question…what the hell is he doing hanging out in these type situations…it’s the old Pacman stuff of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the WRONG friends.

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

Some are missing the point here. It doesn’t matter if he was alone, with friends, or grabbed anything. SOMETHING was said or done in that Uber to make the driver uncomfortable. Jameis was IN that situation and he is now going to pay dearly. Whether it was him or not, it will reflect on Jameis. That’s the reality of the situation.

  32. Patrickbucs Says:

Let’s see what comes of it. It is crazy how many allegations JW has had thrown at him though. Guess DB internet is suddenly down.

  33. Arealbucsfan Says:

I love JW, but cmon man! He needs to stop putting himself into these situations

  34. Arealbucsfan Says:

His friend needs to come out and tell the truth

  35. Arealbucsfan Says:

After this he needs to stop with rah rah and keep his head down and do his best to ball out.

  36. ATrain Says:

    Really Joe

    I’m very disappointed in YOU

    Posting this article

Jamies has come in at 20 years old as the faces of this Team and done a great job.

Now we put him next to That Idiot Johnny Dumb S$$

Please this kid was playing with a hurt shoulder

This girl didn’t even know who Jamie’s was NOW is said something happened

Jamies is not the problem He needs time to grow

YES it takes time to build a team.

    STOP BURNING THIS KID

STILL NO ARTICLE ON THE CANCER

  37. @Joe Says:

Never create your own exhibit A . Jameis has a reputation for creating his own exhibit A. Not a good look.

  38. Freder Says:

You’re living in a country where the president (Trump) is fond of groping and said so. If Clinton was getting BJ’s from under his desk and sticking his cigar up in there it must kind of be okay so why not draft a QB who follows the same mold as our leaders. Most of us have a fascination with that place that we spent 9 months trying to get out of and the rest of our lives trying to get back into. If I knew who said that (which I don’t) I would give them credit. I shouldn’t make lite of this cause the times, they are a changin, just ask Al Franken.

No, Jameis Winston is not a bad person and doesn’t need to be banished from the kingdom. People in power have done this since who knows when. This does not make it okay. Our society, and the world in general is recognizing that we must protect the vulnerable, those that would be enslaved including women and children.

There is one way to deal with the Winston situation. The kid needs to get tuned up by people he admires. Let McCoy, Marpet, Jackson and whoever, tell him that if he wants to enjoy his position of power, he needs to earn it and start setting examples (the good, not the bad) for those who are watching. Enough of the frat boy. Then, and only then, should the organization (whoever that may be) help him draft a ( I have not acted appropriately) public apology, with sincerity. Maybe he can bring himself back from the brink.

  39. The Anomaly Says:

JW is just unlucky. It’s not his fault. Everyone is out to get him. He’s a really good person. Very mature. A born leader. Bunch of haters.

  40. Frogmouth Says:

The court of public opinion is always looking for the death penalty. I thought credible sources didn’t give credence to click bait bottom feeding surface dwellers. I know it stirs the pot and accumulates activity to your site. Mostly from a wide range of emotional idiots. who dissipate their time on social media villianizing others yet dwell in squalor and disarray them selves. We live in a proverbial car wreck society. we’re honeycombed with dooms day theorist rubber necking in hopes of being the first source to report the disaster. Winston is an easy target if he didn’t yet, he should hire a personal escort team to appear with him in public. we are living in an opportunistic society where morals a far fleeing. if you can capatilize off some sucker with prior accusations infinitely looming over his head why not have at it. seems to be easy money she called a few plays right out of the feminist handbook plus tossed in a few audibles she’ll possibly get some seven digit compensation and Winston will fall deeper into the land of creepsville in the eyes of the general public being must people attach impending doom on others according to sound bites and false accusations.
