Will The Glazers Take Heat Off Todd Bowles?

October 5th, 2026

What would happen if Team Glazer issued a statement in this time of Buccaneers crisis acknowledging the Bucs’ terribly disappointing start, noting it’s unacceptable and stating ownership expects the current coaching staff to right the pirate ship and transform the team before the end of the year?

That would be a way to send a message that head coach Todd Bowles, while on a broiling seat, isn’t getting fired soon. A statement like that, Joe believes, would stop many fans from daily spending at least the next month pacing, stressing, driving too fast and tossing and turning at night wondering if tomorrow is the day Bowles gets fired.

If Team Glazer isn’t going to fire Bowels in-season, a statement like that would throw a little cold water on the raging fire burning across Bucs fandom.

Young children might find more weeks of relative peace in their homes. Those local small business owners Team Glazer has funded might find more producutivity in their ranks.  “Well, they’re not going to can Bowles for months, so we might as well chill.”

Joe thinks Team Glazer commenting on the state of the team this week is at least the kind thing to do for the suffering masses.

Say something.

Yes, there’s a loud crowd that wants a Bowles firing announcement to be the only noise from ownership. But if Bowles is going to stick around for several weeks or until the end of the season, then the decent thing to do is to get that message out to fans.

  1. Mike in MO Says:

Joe, you are assuming the Glazers actually care about their fan base.

  2. Curse of Gruden Says:

Joe, who would want to coach this dumpster fire for the remainder of the season?

  3. SteveK Says:

Hold my beer. They aren’t going to make a sound. We will get waxed on Thursday and lose again to the Steelers. Then we will still hear nothing. Licht will remain in hiding, and poor coach Bowles will be left to say, “got to coach it better, play it better. We are only X games out of first place”. Woof.

  4. #99 The Big Fella Says:

It’s honestly time to trade our over priced vets. Stock up on draft picks for the next coach. The ship is sinking .

  5. Dubcity6 Says:

We all can agree its time to move on from Bowles.. but the pass that Licht gets.. wow

So much money spent and this will be the second time Bucs can realistically get the 1st pick.. has that ever happened? A GM getting 2 #1 picks 10 years apart.

    That and 3 HCs fired…

What is the credit he gets, for Brady?.. so is that the plan? To hope Bucs get Brady again? Or the next Brady to call Jason and come save the day?

    I dont get it..

The year after winning the superbowl he kept the same exact roster and drafted Logan Hall and Trask.

Hes as responsible for this decline as anyone else

  6. BucsFan2023 Says:

Will the Bucs players be excited about Todd keeping his job for the rest of the season? Not likely. ME got out of town quickly when he saw how bad the coaching was on defense – 3rd and 27. ME was going crazy on the sidelines and then exit stage left. There are a lot of loafers right now. Some players look like they are trying to not get hurt. And some are faking injuries. Just lovely right now.

  7. ATLBuc Says:

They’re not going to fire him midseason when we could still possibly win the division. Just likereplace hi with BA they didn’t fire him last season because of the number of injuries. They should fire him immediately and let BA take his place. All of this is his fault!

  8. Bucnjim Says:

The Glaziers have been more than fair with Bowles. They’ve showed support when most owners would have been handing out pink slips. They also spent a ton of cash on Vea and quite a few other free agents during the off season. I’m pretty sure they’ve given him everything he’s asked for. They may not fire him mid-season, but they have every right to.

  9. Flush Bowles Says:

Joe, this makes a lot of sense. Hence, the Glazers will keep silent.

  10. Newbie Says:

Spot on Mike In Mo… besides, it won’t do a damn thing. It’s their mess. I am as mad as anyone but Joe, I dont pace or scold my kids or drive too fast and all that other horsesh!t you wrote about. What I am is a life long fan. I was 9 and we had season tix in 1976. I have loved the Bucs since. I want to be proud of my football team. We have a complete crapshow. This is not something new – something has been wrong at One Buc Place for a long time now. That is 100% on the Glazers and Jason Licht and from where I stand, NOTHING has been done about it. FIRE THEM ALL.

  11. Winny Testaverde Says:

The self appointed stars of Raise The Flags now need to Burn The Ships Cortez style…but they won’t. They prefer minimal press interaction unless things are going well. This just in…things ain’t going well.

  12. ATLBuc Says:

Jason should be safe. We have a good roster except the “franchise” QB but the HC doesn’t know how to coach or motivate.

  13. FireBowles58! Says:

Coaching staff and GM gotta go… asap.. u wanna wait until after Thursday’s beatdown in Dallas, fine….if this staff stays on after that then this team will not win one game…who can we beat??? 2-11 last 13 games….

  14. Buc Up Buttercup Says:

Licht will get one more coaching hire and then he is next. Firing the gm and coach at the same time is what led us to the decade of darkness. Plus, how do we know what we have in the current roster? When coaching is this bad, there is no way of knowing. I still believe this roster is talented enough to win the South with decent coaching.

  15. GMC hater Says:

Statements are meaningless! We need action glazers! Heads must roll starting from the top!!!

  16. FireBowles58! Says:

This is the worst atmosphere in Tampa in 20 years…flush the toilet

  17. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Ah, the venerable “vote of confidence”. Also known as the even more venerable “kiss of death”.

  18. capnhowdy Says:

The only thing the Glazers know how to do in-season is let the crickets speak for them, all while the pirate ship sinks; it’s a Bucs life again.

  19. Dubcity6 Says:

Ask Lovie and Dirk if Jason should be fired

    And what talent? Where?

Bucs defensive Roster or Houston? Whats Houstons record?

What talent? Bucs Offense or the Browns Offense?

    What talent…

When yall say that back it up please… even with bad coaches Mike and Lavonte always balled out.. whose is balling? Anyone???????

  20. Tucker Says:

What are you talking about joe this is nonsense the entire fan base has been proven right when they screamed for his firing last season you are not stopping a forest fire with an ice cube just stop it.

  21. SenkoFox Says:

As previously stated, bowles is an abomination before both God and Man.

  22. Tye Says:

Last nights game was obvious the Panthers has far surpassed the Bucs….
Saints played 3 really good teams close and competitive… So greater than Bucs!

Falcons have yet to impress… will they tonight, we will see….
But week4 so far the Bucs look to be the only cesspool in the division so whatever the owners do OR don’t do will be telling…..

The Glazers football ignorance is making it unbearable to remain a Bucs fan!

  23. Pops Malone Says:

If they were that concerned about the fans and what they think, Bowles would have been fired at the end of last season….idiots.

  24. Dr Says:

No, inspire change sooner than later please!

  25. Obvious Says:

Firing him in season, while satisfying, won’t accomplish anything other than giving us some red meat.

The guy they need to hire is currently coaching so it doesn’t make much sense unless they intend to hire McDermott….which would be a large mistake.

Just let Todd turn us into a 1 or 2 win team so the next guy gets the first pick. At least Todd can accomplish that for us.

  26. SummerofGeorge Says:

Hilarious that some still think the playoffs are possible.

It’s over folks and you might as well just be quiet, sit there and choke on it.

That’s exactly what the Joes, Ira, and ownership by their silence, are telling us all.

Wipe your chin and walk away.

  27. Popcornmike67 Says:

My opinion is, and opinions are like rear ends, everybody has one, this time is a little different with the Bowles coached Bucs. This is the fifth year of bad football in Tampa, not the 3rd or 4th but the 5th and on top of that, it’s the worst start for the Bucs since like 2013 so hummmm

  28. Bucnjim Says:

I was one of those fans who thought the Bucs would be greatly improved this season. I bought into the fact that this team had a ton of injuries last year and that is what caused the decline. Looking back on last year and the first 4 games this year and it’s obvious Bowles has lost this team long ago. They may like the guy or even respect him, but they’re not willing to lay it on the line for him. His time here is done so it doesn’t make sense to let this play out.

  29. King of Citrus Park Says:

Glazers could say whatever they want and make veiled threats. Wont do any good. If the team was healthy, ok fine. But the $55M man has a busted throwing thumb so Coach has an excuse (as usual). This years mess is one thing, but the Glazer crew has F’d themselves for years to come with untimely huge contacts, right before the burn-down year and new HC. Others here have said the same and they are right. Coulda had more cap space to start all over in ‘27. Instead, years of pain to come

  30. Aceofaerospace Says:

This has been the least stressful year ever for me as a Bucs fan since 1976. I knew they were going to suck because of coaching and they suck because of coaching. Not surprised. Not upset. I just don’t care, this year. That’s worse when fans just stop caring.

  31. Thetaskmaster Says:

The Bucs’s season is over. The NFC south champion will be between the Saints and the Panthers. It is time to clean house and send Bowles packing. Get a new head coach with offensive-mind and a draft a new qb. Baker is not taking Bucs to any where. The Bucs is stuck with him with that contract. They should wait until the end of the season before give Baker the extension. Baker is hurt all the time.

  32. 3-28 curse continues Says:

    Everybody gets 3rd prize!

  33. CMallie Says:

Bowles should have never been hired in the first place. Did the Glazzzzzers think his horrific record at the Jets was an anomaly?? They didn’t waste nearly this much time with Dirk who was ALMOST as bad as Bowles. Hire a lemon, knowing he’s a lemon and keep the lemon way longer than you kept other lemons. I wonder why that is….okay, no I don’t. Its obvious.

  34. Saskbucs Says:

It’s doom and gloom right now but I am telling you guys… fire Bowles and Robinson.

Let Licht pick his new coaching staff. If he gets the right guys, for example, Arians type HC, LaFleur OC, Schwartz or McDermott DC … I think this team is instantly back to a contender in 2027.

Those names are just examples. I’d be thrilled to have Schwartz or McDermott in charge of the D. Just can’t have them as HC as we see the problems a defensive HC can create.

Of course big name coaches don’t always work out. I thought Harbaugh McDaniel were gonna be a potent pair and we see how that’s going.

  35. Lakeland Says:

The Glazers have had 7 Managers at Man U in the past 5 years
They fire managers over there in a heartbeat
I don’t believe they have much interest in the Bucs or this fanbase

  36. DBS Says:

Bucs are not winning the division. Carolina will win it. Then Bowles will mobs t likely be given the ultimatum. Retirement or be fired which would you like. As much I would like him to be gone now I don’t believe the owners will do it. If they really cared after all the losses dating back to last season he would have been fired today.

  37. Bucscoott Says:

They won’t fire him even after the season even if we don’t win a game they love him

  38. DBS Says:

    Most likely ^

  39. Hodad Says:

No, they won’t. Have they ever? It’s not their style.

  40. Lakeland Says:

I don’t believe the Glazers are expecting to run the table with an UDFA QB
They were banking on the $55 million dollar man to take them there
If they think the coaches are going to turn this around with Jalon Daniels
Then they have a lot of confidence in this coaching staff

The key piece to this lost season is Baker Mayfield
If he’s healthy and playing, they have a legitimate reason to fire coaches
But if he’s on the sidelines in his sweats, the coaches gets a pass

This is complicated, it’s not as simple as it looks

  41. LoveMyBucs Says:

I’ll always remember when they chose to be the cheapest salaried team in the uncapped years.

That said, I do think the Glazers want to win, beyond just profit.

    Go Bucs!

I agree with this, I’m out

  44. Orlando Kevin Says:

I don’t like to overreact. But too many examples to support firing Coach Bowles. Tired of the excuses that coaching needs to be better, effort needs to be better, we just didn’t execute, we aren’t using key players to their strengths, and now some phantom wind caused us to attempt a 4th and 11 with an undrafted QB in his first start versus putting the game on a highly reliable kickers shoulders at a distance that he can make. No blame there towards Jalon just reality of any new QB.

Gerald McCoy yesterday has also elaborated on first hand conversations that he has had with current players and summed it by saying they are coaching them to do things that aren’t going to work. Is that why we aren’t seeing more consistent effort?

Let’s move on and get an Offensive Head Coach that knows how to make adjustments and be the thermostat to turn up the temps.

  45. Mike Johnson Says:

I don’t think the Glazers say one word until we go 0-5.

  46. SkunkApe Says:

    It would make no difference.

Joe, who would want to coach this dumpster fire for the remainder of the season……

Uhhhhhhh like a million people bro, it is one of 32 jobs in the biggest of big sports, dumpster fire question

  48. jimmy Says:

yea sure the billionaires will put out a statement saying “yea we know we suck”. i dont think so.

however, they will continue to send their minions from the marketing dept to post here with 3 blind mice favorites like:

“but yea the defense, well some of the defense, is ok-ish.”
“but yea, todd had that one good game during the pandemic as DC.”
    “zac is new, be patient!”
“there was no way we could keep coen”

the only good thing about this season is we dont have to see that childish lame end zone schlock celebration with the row boat. that turned out to be them paddling up schitt’s creek, they just didnt know it yet.

    they know it now.

  49. TheDailyCoroner Says:

The Glazers are businessmen. Are they happy with their product? We are not and we are the customers – and customers are always right- yes?

  50. sBucs Says:

Sure hope Jason Lightweight doesn’t get a pass from the Glazers. He has not stocked this team with anyone who currently sits on any player evaluation in the top twenty at their position. That includes Tristan Wirfs, Vita Vea, Graham Barton, Winfield and of course, Baker Mayfield. Yes, Todd is absolutely the best at regressing players. By taking nose guards to play cover safety, taking a good wide receiver and not throwing him the ball (two cases Godwin and Ebuka), taking a middling tight end and expecting a Gronkowski. This team reeks incompetence both in management and coaching. Sad for the fans and the players. It’s time to completely clean house.

  51. Orlando Kevin Says:

@Joe… as a business owner myself, good PR with customers that is rooted in honesty, urgency and resetting expectations is a good place to start.

If I were in their shoes, I’d be concerned about the increasing excuses that get repeated and therefore sounds like Coach Bowles has no plan. When your star Left Tackle answers “no comment” in regards to his coach, the optics look bad for potentially losing the locker room.

Last thing, I can’t forget ME13 leaving that Atlanta game last December that we couldn’t stop 3rd and 28 to seal the win. Those optics were gut punching and from a future of hall of fame and fan favorite ME13. And a big reason we lost him I’m guessing.

Something from higher up needs to be said for the fans, the players and coaches to at least try to get things going. We need a reset and urgently.

  52. Lakeland Says:

Do people actually think the Glazers expect the Bucs to win with Jalon Daniels?
And then you throw in Bain, Morrison, Winfield, Baker, JMac injuries
The OLine is playing like crap, l don’t believe they are fully healed
The Glazers will evaluate the coaching staff at the end of the season

But, they are probably leaning towards making changes
And only they know what changes are coming

  53. Buddha Says:

Football that follows the meaning of your life, get a divorce!

  54. sBucs Says:

Oh, and Todd can’t wait to use any injury as the current excuse Thursday after the game.

  55. Bucscoott Says:

Win the division? What are you smoking?

  56. Orlando Kevin Says:

@Lakeland…. When a team is struggling:
    1. I expect players and coaches to do their jobs that fans pay a lot for to watch.
    2. I expect effort driven by character.
    3. I expect to see development and flexibility in game planning including coming out of half time.
    4. In these situations, I look for the game within the game where you can point to team growth and development.
    5. I do not like seeing a team give up.

  57. JustOneGame Says:

Lakeland. The Bucs, with Baker were 0-3 this year. 2-7 to finish last year, stop with the Bowles/Baker optimism.

  58. JustOneGame Says:

Our GM, HC, QB1 and QB2 all have career losing records. This ship is not sinking, it already f’ing sunk

  59. Lakeland Says:

Bruce Arians was on the “Up and Adams ” show
He had some strong criticism for Baker Mayfield
He said Baker need to get rid of the damn ball

He even went as far as saying ” We have one of the best OLines in the NFL
Saying Baker Mayfield was the problem, not the OLine

There’s a lot going on with the Bucs
Jason Licht and Todd Bowles play mind games with the fanbase
    But Bruce don’t hold back

  60. Orlando Kevin Says:

@Lakeland… I’d love to know why he’s holding the ball too long again. Under Canales and Coen, he got faster and that wasn’t an issue. The team just paid him Elite money so why the regress? He’s never had a repeat OC before so having seen so many playbooks, is he not bought in? Is he missing ME13? They need to have a conversation internally and gently insynch quickly.

  61. Hopes on 2027 Says:

That would turn even MORE fans away.

Right now many of us are hate-watching, wanting to see the car crash in the hope that it might get so bad things it will force their hand.

If we know there’s no hope until January, why watch anything until then.

  62. Defense Rules Says:

I’m still of the suspicion that the Glazers did in fact want to change regimes when 2025 ended, but couldn’t find a suitable head coach (and might have even been turned down by a couple of prospects). So they rode with Bowles, with the idea that IF he did well they could wait 1 more year to replace him, but IF he did poorly, everyone in Tampa Bay would be in favor of replacing him. That’d be a win-win scenario.

But coming out in favor of Bowles right now is a lose-lose scenario, and that’s not how the Glazers roll. They’re almost always very quiet on what they’re doing … until it’s done. Like when they signed Chucky to coach the Bucs? Remember how surprised we all were? Or when they junked Jameis & signed Tommy to be our QB; that was pretty hush-hush until it actually happened. There wasn’t even a whole bunch of speculation about BA’s hiring, and certainly when BA announc ed his tetirement and the The Todd had been ‘promoted’ to HC.

  63. BUCDADDY Says:

They shouldn’t! 0-4 is totally unacceptable, especially after the last few seasons. I do think we HAD a lot of talent but missed our window. Most of these guys are aged out and too susceptible to injuries now.

FIRE BOWLES NOW, or at least after the beat down we’re about to take against the Cowboys on Thursday. Send a message that this lack of discipline will not be tolerated.

Every facet of our game stinks, and usually that leads back to one thing: Umnotivating and uninspiring coaching.

I don’t for a second believe that every player just happens to completely suck now, but they are playing like they do.

Been saying it for awhile now, that even though we should’ve let Baker try and prove us wrong this year and not signed him to a longer contract immediately, he’s not the biggest problem on this team. It goes way deeper than that. Same with Vita.

I believe a rebuild is warranted very soon, whether that means you dump most of your players or not, including Baker and Vita.

  64. Lakeland Says:

    Orlando Kevin

There’s a lot going on with the Bucs, especially Baker Mayfield
He looks like a shell of himself
I’ve never seen a QB regress so quickly as he have

There’s some serious issues with the offense
Mike Evans walked out, Rachaad White dissing Todd Bowles

  65. JimBobBuc Says:

No announcement needed just a phone call.

  66. Orlando Kevin Says:

@Lakeland… totally agree. Thanks for the above replies. Hadn’t heard Coach Arians comments yet either until you posted.

  67. BucsFan81 Says:

They might sign Bowles to an extension. They love being mediocre so don’t expect much out of these owners.

  68. Lakeland Says:

    Orlando Kevin
    Alright

  69. BassCrazy Says:

Maybe the Glazers will black-out home games again if not sold out. Be nice to the Glazers, they might get angry!!!!!!!

  70. SethB22 Says:

Short Week. He gone on Friday! Just want to give interim coach 10 days instead of 3 days.
