Chris Godwin Is Dependable

May 24th, 2021

Big ups from Bucs coaches.

So on “Good Morning Football” today, seen weekdays on NFL Network, the gang at the breakfast table was debating who is the most dependable wide receiver in the game.

And a guy who covered the Bucs last offseason and through training camp had interesting intel on Bucs stud receiver Chris Godwin.

James Palmer chose Godwin in the discussion and claimed coaches think so much of Godwin they compared him in some ways to the legendary Larry Fitzgerald.

“I’m going to go with a guy who many people would say is not the best receiver on his team,” Palmer began. “I’m going to go with Chris Godwin of the Tampa Buccaneers.”

(NFL Network’s It Girl, Kay Adams, then quickly chimed in, “Oh, I like that!”)

“Tom Brady said last year in one of his production meetings with the broadcasters that Chris Godwin has the best hands of any receiver he ever played with,” Palmer continued. “I checked my notes last night and Brady has played for a very long time in the NFL.”

Palmer then said he knows there are offensive coaches who spent time in Arizona that said Godwin compares a lot to Fitzgerald in the way they can use him all over the field.

“If that isn’t the ultimate security blanket, a guy that has more tackles as a wide receiver than drops in his career, is a tremendous compliment,” Palmer added.

Palmer also claimed Godwin’s finger injury that required surgery in October was worse than fully known to the public. Since Palmer works for the NFL’s house organ of a cable network and has access to players and coaches most media types don’t, that may explain why Godwin uncharacteristically had a case of the dropsies against Washington in the playoffs.

Joe is a big Godwin fan and thinks the guy is really underrated. Joe isn’t positive Godwin is better than Mike Evans but Godwin sure is an excellent complement to Evans.

The stat that Godwin has more tackles as a wide receiver than drops is pretty wild.

When you have two WRs this good, it’s always a question: which is better? Duper or Clayton? For a while, Taylor or Rice?

They both are dependable. They both are tough. They both are Super Bowl Champions.

Just keep them together and let the debate rage.

  2. SOEbuc Says:

He is the best all around WR in the league with amazing hands. He’s gotta be up there with most YAC by WR. He’s soo good in the slot. When he kicks it inside. He also had a very nice TD grab in the Wild Card.

Love CG14. Hope we keep him on the other side of ME13 for a long time. Other news in the NFC we already know Brees retired now falcons might loose JJ. Man seems like the nfc south is getting weaker as we get stronger. Not going to complain but I didn’t like that we played a one of the tougher divisions in football

  4. B.D Says:

IDK he did have Jameis at quarterback for awhile, could have a bunch of tackles….lol

  5. Cainishere Says:

When Godwin’s finger was busted is the only time period that I can remember when he struggled to catch passes.

  6. Kentucky Buc Says:

Hate to be that guy but I think he was saying that Fitz had more tackles than drops. I won’t be offended if I’m corrected here though. Lol

  7. Beeej Says:

“more tackles than drops” … Gonna say that’s a Jaymiss thing

  8. Redblud Says:

CG has 7 career drops and 7 career tackles, so he’s right there.

  9. Kentucky Buc Says:

    Fitz 39 tackles, 29 drops

  10. Cobraboy Says:

Godwin possess the three most potrant skills of a top WR:
    1) Reads and reacts to defenses
    2) Uses #1 to get open
    3) Catches the ball

All the other metrics matter little…

Jesus H christ!!!! this new tablois shows that infected NFL, have nothing to talk about and the just talk rubish!!!! Who are this jockers anyways???

  12. Eddie Marz Says:

Just glad Godwin is on our team!👍

  13. Duane Says:

Godwin is a beast and a No. 1 receiver in his own right. He just happens to play with an even better receiver in his prime. Evans is normally the first threat opposing defenses look to double team. Godwin clearly makes the most of his opportunities. Its been a pleasure watching both of them figure a way to coexist and put on a display. Takes the sting out of all those lean years hoping they become what they are today.

  14. Mike Says:

Godwin’s hand eye coordination is special. If it’s in the area, 99% of the time he’s going to find a way to catch it.

  15. Aceofaerospace Says:

With Mr Pick-6 on the team, Godwin had at least 30 opportunities for a tackle in one season.

  16. SlyPirate Says:

I thought I read AB had 0 drops last year. Godwin is good but AB is more reliable.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

Godwin is a very good, very smooth WR.
    Evans is an elite WR.

Also saying Brown, in 2021, is better than either is really stupid. At one time, a few years ago, Brown was the best WR in the game, that’s not 2021. He will likely, I think, lead the team in receiving, but that’s due more to the routes that Brady likes to throw.

But on the team, it’s 1. Evans, 2. Godwin, 3. Brown.

  18. Hope springs eternal Says:

Godwin is one of my all around favorites. Team player, no attitude, gives himself up to make difficult catches, takes the big hits over the middle and hangs on.

  19. Cainishere Says:

All of the Bucs receivers and TEs have gifted hands. We are lucky to have such a bounty

  20. Brandon Says:

More tackles than drops? Thank you, Jameis!

Every comment today under moderation, what’s going on, Joe Zuckerberg?

Chris is very good and might even be great someday, but he is our second receiver for a reason. Most dependable should also mean being available for every game and Chris hasn’t done that the last two years. I’m worried that he may be a bit on the fragile side and not worth top 10 receiver money. I’m all for keeping him and paying him like a star, but to me, he’s gotta stay healthy for all 17.
