Absorbs knockout

Fans call it the box score. Media guys call it the sheet or the game book.

Whatever the hell you want to call it, Gerald McCoy ain’t in it this morning.

It sure is a crummy look for the Pro Bowler in the Bucs’ trenches, especially after the Sunday Night Football audience saw McCoy giving a rather odd, high-pitched, rah-rah, pregame speech.

The Cowboys dominated time of possession against Tampa Bay last night, running a whopping 68 plays on offense. Mr. McCoy didn’t register a tackle or an assist, or even a “wow, look at that.”

Yes, defensive tackles don’t rack up big numbers, but a goose egg is inexcusable. 100 percent.

Joe is a huge defender of McCoy, the big picture. And that picture is simple, McCoy is a Pro Bowl player but not a Hall of Fame talent. No shame there.

But the invisibility last night on the grand stage was a head shaker. Oh, if only Ian Beckles was still on the sports radio airwaves.

McCoy did not walk the walk last night.

And yes, he was talking across the country last week. McCoy told The Rich Eisen Show how excited he was to put his game up against Zack Martin and what might be the very best O-line in the game. Oh, McCoy was living to compete and measure his game.

Sadly, on this night, McCoy took quite a knockout punch.

His pregame speech was hella lame to boot.

  2. Blake_bucsfan Says:

And i saw plenty of holds on Noah Spence that didnt get called.

  3. DallasBuc Says:

Noticed that those of us who expect more from our supposed greatest player didn’t called “haters” this time!

  4. DallasBuc Says:

Dline, McCoy in particular got steamrolled mercilessly all night.
“But he is a pro bowler”

  5. Armando Says:

Sapp Daddy will always be a shadow and McCoy was DT’d all night but so was Sapp and he is a HOF and MVP

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Saw the speech too and I said…

    What a sissy….

  7. tmaxcon Says:

Big time players, make big time plays, in big games. McCoy is a fragile, out of shape (thank you Mr Collinsworth), overrated pay check cashing fraud. But he has a nice smile and hosts movie night all forgiven… Get this overrated bum outta here that money could be much better spent on players who will make a difference

  8. Bucamania Says:

McCoy was invisible. They showed him getting doubled teamed a few times AND showed him getting OWNED one-on-one by Leary. Very disappointing.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Tmax…NEVER forget about the ice cream!

  10. tmaxcon Says:

I like the new bucs hopefully they can save LVD but 22 & 93 are lost causes. Bucs need to get thier sorry arses out of town asap. that 18 million wasted on those two could have provided Jameis some protection and weapons

Screw the sissy ice cream man and the fat dancing hamster

  11. mike Says:

That’s the best o line in football. The offense really hurt the D by turning the ball over and the time of possesion was so far in Dallas’s favor at one poin bc we couldn’t put a few drives together. After Kwon cause the fumble at mid field, we go 3 and out. Jameis was so inaccurate, it did our D no favors. Would have liked to see mccoy make a few plays, but was doubled all night and no one else did much one on one

  12. tmaxcon Says:

    87

I’m so sick of the free passes the previous face if franchise receives . The nut huggers go nuts when he makes a meaningless sack yet throw out every pathetic excuse in the book when thier sissy ass DT disappears

  13. ndog Says:

This is what some of us have been saying for a very long time. He got destroyed all night long and that is why they killed us. They doubled McDonald and Spence let the tackles do their thing and just let McCoy play pattycake at the line all night long while Prescott sat back patted the ball all night and check it down time and time again. Kwon balled out, N. Spence drew holding calls and forced a sack, Goldston got a sack, Ayers made a big play on a reverse and where way McCoy? I know doing nothing like most games it matters.

  14. D-Rome Says:

The entire unit under performed. I’m not too upset about this loss. The Bucs aren’t there yet but I believe they can be in the next year or two. Honestly guys, the offense was the bigger problem last night. The Bucs had opportunities to win this game.

  15. Gencoimports Says:

It’s Doug Martin’s fault GMC had a bad game.

  16. Doc Says:

Point blank, these linebackers stinks, always out of position and will not filled the holes created by the defense line. This team was intimated by by the cowboys and the bright lights.

  17. ndog Says:

Mike says doubled all night , ha ha ha ha ha ha. Dude you are funny, that was a good one.

  18. tnew Says:

    He shrunk.

  19. duthsty rhothdes Says:

tmax agreed and as soon as i saw GMC giving that speech, smiling, and giving his oh shucks vibe, it just didnt sit well when you see the ray lewis pregame speeches or dbrooks, those are winners… lvd and mccoy could fetch a big prize in draft

  20. ndog Says:

No Doc our penetrating 3 tech is supposed to disrupt the play and then rest the line of scrimmage so the linebackers get the tackles. Ours gets destroyed one of one so our linebackers are making the tackles 7-8 yards down filed. See Kwons #’s for proof.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    Gencoimports

No, it’s Doug Martins fault he took the money and quit on his team. He’s fragile, slow and unreliable… The fat dancing hampster needs to be retired to the bath house

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Spence was held all game, but sorry to say GMC was handled w/o doubleteams.

  23. tmaxcon Says:

Hamsters become gerbils at the bath house

  24. R.O. Says:

A few weeks ago you wrote “He’s a disrupter, takes up two blockers” yadda yadda blah blah. It’s how he effects the game BS. Now it’s all the sudden “Unacceptable”? Whatever Dude…
Did you even read what was written here today?–Joe

  25. BuccaneerByBirth Says:

Dak had all season to throw the ball. Both sides of the line of scrimmage were completely dominated by Dallas.

  26. ElioT Says:

I’m not too down on the game as a whole but…

McCoy’s pregame speech was the lamest, weakest bulls**t, I’ve ever seen!!!

He’s a very talented player but he is NOT a LEADER!

Better bring some more fire to NOLA!

    Let’s go!

  27. BigHogHaynes Says:

That Cowboys O-Line is no joke! And yes ….they did Double McCoy at times! But he didn’t lose this game, we ran into a team that was ready to rumble, we ran into a team that was fully stocked, we ran into a team with an ALL/PRO 1st year QB and he kicked us in the nuts and while we were bent over holding on to our smashed balls….ZEKE ran up our backs on his way to the PRO/BOWL! We still need more talent people….2 games to play with 1 game to win to show improvement over last year’s team! I would start my draft with a Left Tackle in the 1st Round and a Right Tackle in the 2nd Round because when you have a Bad Ass O/Line ….it covers what “coaching” can’t! Last year we lost the last 4 games, will we lose the last 3 this year!

  28. Tampa Tony Says:

That speech was silly and just makes the team sound like a joke nationally

  29. Tampa Tony Says:

Big hog- They’ve already won 2 more than last year with a more difficult schedule than last year. Improvements have been made, just can’t hang with the elite teams

  30. ElioT Says:

    @BigDogHaynes

Laugh my a** off, and exactly!

“Bent over holding our smashed balls” – priceless

  31. Peyton Says:

IMO the defensive scheme was part of the problem as well…going up against the best o-line in the league and there’s no debating that, you put 4 against 5 and hope for the best…against a weaker line they may get through and make plays, but once you see that they weren’t getting through, you have to change it up and manufacture pressure another way…we all knew that they would want to run the ball and we needed to stop the run first and foremost, but we hardly sent any run blitz’s…and what’s worst, when we did run a blitz here and there, they got through and had an immediate impact on the play, whether it be a tackle in the backfield or an errant throw by Dak or even a sack. McCoy wasn’t getting it done at all and Smith just left the defense in a base zone scheme too much and Dak and Zeke had a field day…the rookie only missed on 4 passes and he attempted more than Jameis did…that’s disgusting to me…we can blame McCoy and Ayers and all that and truthfully McCoy deserves some blame for not making an impact at all but that check is still the biggest on the team, but I equally blame Smith’s defensive scheme from the first snap…we need to be more aggressive on defense and go take these wins…Jameis is too aggressive at times on offense and I can live with that because I don’t want an alex smith at qb, but the defense needs to have the same mentality each and every snap and it starts with the play caller.

  32. shouldhavedraftedefiert Says:

The game was close they were leading in the 3rd. Good game, snap and clear!

  33. gotbbucs Says:

Weird, Gerald McCoy disappeared in a big game. Never saw that coming.

Defend him all you want, he doesn’t show up big unless he’s going against scrubs, and even them he’s never taken over a game like the Dallas scrap heap find did against our right tackles last night. That kid just single handedly had more impact on one game than GMC has ever had total in his entire career.

  34. bucsfaninchina Says:

McDonald or whoever else the Bucs fielded at DT were equally as invisible. Cowboys interior O line was just feasting, and coupled with an unwillingness to blitz by Mike Smith, the interior of the line was exposed all frigging nite.

  35. Buccfan37 Says:

That McCoy pre game speech was comical. He couldn’t withhold the laughter and sounded like pee wee herman delivering it. Laughs all around.

  36. bigt1639 Says:

how about the 45 yard run when the right guard and tackle pushed the d linemen into the linebacker to make a crease that isnt suppose to happen

  37. DB55 Says:

McCoy didn’t register a tackle or an assist, or even a “wow, look at that.”
    —————
Not true! When Leary threw him across the field like a rag doll on national TV I said to myself Wow! Look at that! But then added a smh.

    PS
We paid 812k for that effort yesterday. Good thing he’ll be voted to Orlando this year. And the sheep will praise him still.

  38. DB55 Says:

Good morning fellas! Hold your head high. Kwon had 21 tackles and 16 solos.

  39. mike10 Says:

“giving a rather odd, high-pitched, rah-rah, pregame speech”

    haha

Joe, you didn’t mention him getting spotlighted last night either: “he looks tired out there as there way no [lateral] movement on that play”

  40. RumRunner Says:

Why is everybody whining? We are still the Bucs in case you forgot. It’s takes more then a quarter of a season to get out of the depression we’re in. Same ol’ Bucs fans! Complaining about everything. Chill out

  41. mike10 Says:

Any articles about David today? Thought he had a sub-par night

  42. bucinjax Says:

Does ANYBODY on here agree with Big Hog and how many games won are needed to show improvement?

  43. tmaxcon Says:

Richard Simmons gives a more manly motivational speech than 93

  44. DB55 Says:

    Lord Corn

Where you at brother? COME set us straight.

  45. OhioBuc Says:

Well at least our kickers were there last night

  46. 813bucboi Says:

@bighog…I agree…we need to draft oline first round….and move marpet to center….Hawley got tossed around last night too….

I was very critical of this staff at the beginning of the year and still have some concerns….but this team has made some improvement….still think we can finish 10-6….

but your right….we need talent in the trenches on both sides of the ball….GO BUCS!!!

  47. unbelievable Says:

No more pregame speeches from McCoy. He needs to do his job and shut up and play

  48. unbelievable Says:

Agreed there were tons of Holds against him, Spence, and ayers . I believe only 2 or 3 were called all game. But we knew the refs would heavily favor Dallas.

Let’s be honest, the entire d-line did nothing last night.

  49. Dexfields Says:

This is the main reason why I’m one of those McCoy hater!!He’s a no show when playing the teams. He look like he was just signed off the practice squad.Leary handled him easily…so embarrassing!!!!

  50. Rob Says:

Its russias fault. Seriously they hacked us and gave dallas our plays.

  51. Rob Says:

Seriously though there were so many holds last night it wasn’t funny

  52. Bucsfanman Says:

I’m typically defending GMC on this site, but there’s no hiding from this one. Big-time players are supposed to rise to the occasion.
For what it’s worth, both DTs registered 00’s for the day. That can’t be good!

  53. Bucsfanman Says:

BTW, I did NOT see the speech but it sounds like I didn’t miss anything! It’s not his forte, apparently!

  54. ClodHopper Says:

Don’t worry about McCoy. Next year when he makes his next big time play, we’ll get a big does of “See? Told you McCoy was good” Just like when he made a big play at the end of the Falcons game. Suddenly everyone acted like it was a daily occurrence. It was so great we heard about that ONE play for months because that ONE play proved he was great!!! You know, that ONE play.

  55. ClodHopper Says:

When I saw that speech, the first thing I thought was Nofocking wonder this team has been flat since he got here until Winston took control. That speech wouldn’t have worked up a starving angry pit bull. After hearing that speech, That pit bull would’ve seen Mike Vick and said in his best Eeyore voice, “Meh. I’m taking a nap”

  56. Ray Rice Says:

Not surprised. MF didn’t win a single battle in the trenches. All the $h*t he was talking before the game too…..SMH….. Have to beat the best to be the best. And last night he looked inferior. Something he normally looks like when he plays against top notch talent. The bright side is…. the team saved money by not having to wash his uniform. #teamclean

  57. Jamsalot Says:

We win 5 straight games three of which against elite quarterbacks. Then we lose a close game against arguably the best most complete team in the NFC and the band wagoners are already pulling a tuck and roll off the wagon. The only thing that stinks about this team is the fan base.

  58. Jordan Says:

Jameis pulled him aside and told him that he needed to be more of a vocal leader of the defense. Instead of criticising we should be happy he’s making an effort to step up his leadership. We won 6 games and were on pace for another bad year, Jameis hand writes the whole team personalized cards showing superb leadership. We pick up 5 straight against solid teams and now you wanna crucify him and McCoy when we had a chance at the end. The comments on this trash article as well as the typical blame jameis article make me sad to be a bucs fan.

  59. David Benenati Says:

Non the less,…The Bucs are meeting our expectations. I mean we could go 10-6 or 9-7? Sure we loss a game we should have lost. I’m sure the game didn’t go as wanted, but as a season we do look a lot better than last year.

  60. Carolina Says:

Can someone tell what did he say in his speech? I mean english is not my native language and I don’t get the part before “Guess what?”, thanks!
