Zac Robinson Apparently Has No Intuition To Adjust On The Fly

October 4th, 2026

Bucs OC Zac Robinson.

Through the first four weeks of the season, Zac Robinson may be the worst Bucs offensive coordinator since Joe first launched this website in August 2008.

And that includes ill-suited Marcus Arroyo, who was lousy Lovie Smith’s offensive coordinator in 2014 when the Bucs earned the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Apparently, Robinson is incapable of adjusting on the fly. That’s the gist Joe got from the words of KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Yes, the Packers were getting heat on rookie Bucs quarterback Jalon Daniels, making a huge task for Daniels even harder. Bowles seemed to suggest part of the inability to stop the Packers’ pass rush was on an undrafted rookie making his first NFL start.

“Well, if it wasn’t max protection and they send one more than you can handle, that’s on the quarterback to throw the hot and he [has to] get that hot out,” Bowles said.

Joe would like to know why Robinson wasn’t using max protection? He knew the Bucs offensive line, for whatever reason, is a total shell of itself. It hasn’t looked this bad since lousy Lovie was around.

If Daniels was struggling with the pressure, why did Robinson let the kid hand out to dry without help?

Between stunts like this, and thinking Cade Otton is Rob Gronkowski and believing Emeka Egbuka and Chris Godwin are the reincarnation of the Calgary Stampeder Donteea Dye and Robert Herron, Joe is finding it hard to believe that Robinson actually worked for Sean McVay.

What did Robinson do when McVay had meetings, sneak out to go watch Dodgers and Lakers games?

The way Joe looks at it, Robinson might very well be gone already if it wasn’t for Baker Mayfield’s messed up thumb.

Carolina vs Jacksonville in the Should’ve Fired Bowles Bowl forthcoming.

  2. adam from ny Says:

    sleepy zzz-rob has nothing…

surprisingly he is actually worse than a bowles, or a grizzard…

you’d think if he’s in these so called deep offensive talks with coen all the time, he’d show something – but that’s def not the case…

how have things bottomed out so quickly…?…asking for a frenemy

  3. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-please Says:

    Carolina just beat Detroit –
    next 5 games :
    DAL L
    PIT L
    CAR L
    ATL L
    CHI L

    0-9 at the bye

  4. Austin Says:

You gotta admit, 4 different coordinators in as many years is pretty impossible to keep getting right over and over

Dave was a B, Liam was an A+, and of course we struck out on the last one and seemingly this one

So hey, maybe Todd gets a B or better next year if he doesn’t get fired this year

  5. Will Says:

If Boweles says he can’t adjust the OL plays then they are both made for each other. Boweles can’t adjust weekly to each team. Sounds like the clown squad.

  6. freddy Says:

too many WR screens, too much depending on Otton , not enough down field throws. Last offensive drive was horrible 3 straight unblocked leading to pressure on the Qb , how about a quick slant to Godwin or Ebuka. Winnable game blown by bad coaching and play calling

  7. BucsFan81 Says:

Yep imagine going into next year with only 2 wins and 28 plus losses going back to last year. That’s exactly what’s about to happen when this team doesn’t when a game rest of the season

  8. Buc1987 Says:

0-5 is coming. Then 0-6 after that!

  9. Will008 Says:

Every coach should have been gone by now. But especially all the offensive coaches after that play calling today when Green Bay GAVE THEM THE DAMN GAME

  10. Let em bake Says:

Watching Carolina tonight had me missing bakers decisiveness under Dave. Bryce looked confident . Of course , having a great receiving corps helps.

  11. Will008 Says:

Also, whoever is saying Canales was a “B” is dead wrong . He should be our head coach right now. Bryce Young is starting to look like a legitimately capable starting quarterback.

  12. adam from ny Says:

i tried to be mentally optimistic over the first couple games…

literally saying to myself things like:

“ehh it’s only week one or two, things will pick up offensively”…

“oh he’s just settling in with the team, let them get rolling on all cylinders”…

as week 5 approaches…all i can come up with is the denny green quote of the century – “he is who we think he is”…”he is who we thought he was”….

    he is…he just is…he is that guy…

    he is: “sleepy zzz-rob”

he is who he is…………….and it ain’t gonna change

  13. Frank Pillow Says:

Fire Robinson after 0-5 on Thursday. Reset during the mini bye. It might only be a symbolic gesture- but what’s the point of sticking with this guy?

  14. McBay Says:

No one could do better. This was Bowles top choice. He was excellent in Atlanta, shocked he didn’t get the HC job there. Be patient, the process is in motion.

  15. adam from ny Says:

i for one do not see this as “coen-esque”………….at all

    sorry

  16. Rod Munch Says:

“Well, if it wasn’t max protection and they send one more than you can handle, that’s on the quarterback to throw the hot and he [has to] get that hot out,” Bowles said.

Humm… watching the game live, and only having the TV angle available, I didn’t notice many outlet receivers. In fact the only time all game I remember seeing someone open as an outlet, Daniels threw to the other side where Godwin was also open. Otherwise I didn’t see guys running short routes where they were left open. With that said, it was the Fox D-team, or F-team, I don’t know – I do know any production with Chris Meyers is terrible so I muted the TV and put on the radio broadcast, and they also failed to mention all these wide open outlet receivers that Daniels was missing.

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

    McKay

That’s a stupid take. Atlanta players graded Robinson terribly. Anyone with two eyes and any knowledge of football knows he’s horrible.

He was hired because Bowles knows he won’t be replaced in season by someone even worse than he is.

  18. gp Says:

The staff IS aware that there’s a film room at One Buc where they can study the tendencies of next weeks opponent, right?
It kinda makes you wonder what they ARE watching on those screens, hmmm?

  19. OR Buc Says:

    Pitiful

  20. Usfbucs Says:

The thing I don’t understand is the o line. These are the same guys who played great under Coen

  21. Matt Says:

Robinson failed in ATL and is a known bad OC. The problem is it’s the best Bowles could get given how hot his seat is

  22. gp Says:

    Matt
There IS speculation that Bowles may have had other motivations when choosing Zach.
Being “so baaad” may have made him desirable because he was less of a replacement threat.
His lack of ability/experience may make him more pliable/impressionable in as much as having him coach it ‘Todds way’.
    AND…….
He’s a ready made scapegoat, to protect Todds position. How many OC’s has Todd fired over his tenure as head coach? Hint: It’s two less than the number of years he’s been a head coach. Aside from Coen and Canales, He’s used every single one as a scapegoat. IMO

  23. gp Says:

By coaching tenure, I’m including his years in New York.

  24. Itzok Says:

    These coaches are Fcing retarded

The glazers should demand their money back publicly and claim they were victims of fraud

Could we get the local police to pull these guys over and just charge them with a dui. As messed up as it sounds just being charged may be the straw that breaks the camels back and they could fire bowles with cause

  25. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

    gp mentioned “Todd’s way.”

I wonder if that’s what happened to Carberry. He coached the OL to perfection 2 yrs ago. I know last year was plagued by injuries. But this year…..the line is at full strength. Is Bowles interfering?

  26. Matt Says:

Horrible coaching. Otton is not an elite athlete or a Beast. Give the ball to play makers. They should have given Sean Tucker more touches today, he seemed to have some juice. Don’t out vita 340lb jazz into coverage. The coaches are terrible and need to be let go.

  27. FortMyersDave Says:

Blow it up. Bowles might fird Zac after they lose to Dallas but then what? Who will replace Bowles? No one decent will want to coach in Tampa unless someone is allowed to bring their own GM. Licht needs to go too. He is either incompetent or a liar This roster has no talent.

  28. Leopold Stotch Says:

He is just as bad if not worse than Leftwich at this point. He’s awful

  29. buc4evr Says:

Worse than Grizz. Fire him, bring in Gruden now.

  30. Obvious Says:

At least he was at coens wedding.

This makes the scapegoating and subsequent unprofessional public lashing of Grizzard even worse.

Publicly implying he was the reason why everything went wrong is a bush league move especially when you know that wasn’t the case.

  31. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Here’s a thought: Robinson is tanking so he can get the heck away from Bowels.
I still smell Bowels hand all over this offense. Another OC scapegoat. Robinson has buyer’s remorse and will get paid whether he is coaching or not

  32. BucEmUp Says:

Hes worse than Leftwhich and I never thought that was possible.

  33. James Patrick Reilly Says:

IT IS JUST SO CRAZY. YOU HAVE PLAYERS, USE THEM!!! IT IS LIKE WE SAID LETS TRICK WVERYONE AND USE OUT LEAST TALENTED OFFENSIVE WEAPON THE TIGHT END.?
LETS TAKE OUR DEFENSIVE LINE AND MAKE THEM PLAY CORNERBACK AND TAKE OUR CORNERS AND HAVE THEM RUSH THE PASSER.
REALLY IT WAS ARYANS WHO SCREWED US WITH BOWLS BUT WE JUST CANNOT BE FREE OF HIM.
