Lost In The Smoke: Jalon Daniels Will Start Thursday Night

October 5th, 2026

Bucs QB Jalon Daniels (10) runs to daylight against the Packers.

Not that it really matters because in the coming days, Bucs fans will turn their attention elsewhere, but KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles made an interesting announcement after the galling loss to the Packers.

Jalon Daniels will start Thursday night at Dallas.

The rookie undrafted free agent started his first NFL game yesterday against the Packers and didn’t embarrass himself. He wasn’t Michael Vick but he sure as hell wasn’t Josh McCown, either.

Joe actually thought Daniels handled himself much better than Joe expected. He was 19 or 27 for 148 yards, two picks and one touchdown.

Daniels also ran for 55 yards on 8 carries.

The Bucs didn’t lose because of Daniels yesterday.

Joe is intrigued to see if Daniels can take his next step Thursday night. That’s about the only thing interesting about that game.

including travel…it’s not like dallas comes to visit us…

nothing is getting pulled together in like a day or two…to go in to jerry’s house vs. america’s team

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    What’s Daniel’s next step Joe?

I want to be intrigued too!

  3. Tye Says:

    Must actually be purposely losing….
Not saying Easton is much better BUT sure can’t do much worse…
Playing for a higher draft pick .. 0-5 should get you closer…
Nothing else to play for so sling them ints…

  4. MadMax Says:

    Get it done Jalon!

  5. Rod Munch Says:

    Thursday night game…
    On the road…
    In Dallas…

Well, I’ll just say when Baker was the QB, I assumed this will be at least a double digit loss – and while I liked what I saw from Daniels today, I don’t really see things going any different. I assume the defense will finally come back down to earth, and any rookie starting on the road, early in their career, in particular in that stadium, tends to do poor… and then you have the Bucs overall record there on top of everything.

    This will be a disaster.

But at least I can watch using the Prime Vision deal where you can see the entire field, so no need to rewatch the ALL22, since I don’t expect to see anything I’d want to rewatch.

  6. MadMax Says:

Im so glad to see everyone behind Jalon and pulling for him despite everything else thats going on….all of that stuff is out of his control

what is in control is todd though, and there is that.

  7. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Max

Todd hasn’t been in control in a long time.. maybe ever. He’s really bad at this.

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

Maybe Washington will trade for Baker. Mariota injured.

    One can dream.

  9. RealityBucsFan Says:

Didnt lose because of him? The offense put up 14 points. If im not mistaken, thats the bar we hold Mayfield to, why would we lower it? Need more points kid, what you are doing isnt cutting it.

  10. Bartow Buc Says:

Daniels and the offense just need to play hard and win !! I know they’re sick of losing. I’ll be watching and pulling for my Buccaneers!!

    Go Bucs !!

  11. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Doesn’t matter who’s QB. We can’t pick up a blitz. We can’t scheme for the blitz. We are a dumpster fire on offense. We will be embarrassed on national television yet again by Dallas.

  12. Will008 Says:

What’s the story with Winfield Jr.

  13. Will008 Says:

Not that it matters for the outcome of the game just wondering

  14. MadMax Says:

Yeah it kind of looks that way Jmark….it explains his demeanor at constant playback uf everything he keeps going back to. I really dont want to beat up on him anymore….he’s cuffed, a puppet….oh well, here we go….i’ll stop now

  15. Bucsalltheway Says:

Can we finally call Mac jones and live life he has way more experience than buddy i like a young up and coming qb but not at the cost of the season…they need to right the ship like NOOOOOW!

  16. Bucs_Shak Says:

@RealityBucsFan you can’t be serious? You really don’t expect more from a 50m per, 7-8 year vet, who has played in countless games to do more than a UNDRAFTED ROOKIE IN HIS FIRST NFL GAME? Yes the bar should be lowered when one is guaranteed the most money in Bucs history and the other is making nfl pennies! People will say ANYTHING these days. I honestly don’t think you believe in your own comment, you can’t.

  17. gp Says:

Do we have anyone remotely as qualified/talented/athletic that we could start in his place?
    –
He IS the next man up.
And I shudder to think of who we have lined up behind him!

  18. TONY Says:

Dont go to the games, dont buy the merchandise, dont watch on TV. The owners Suck, The GM sucks, the Head Coach has always sucked.

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

    lol.
Except for all the interceptions, he done purty good!
    Lmao.

It isn’t the kids fault. It wasn’t Mayfields fault

The fing line can’t pass block.
    I know people here disagree.
But they are the same people who told you the line was a “Team Strength”.
And that our lousy Wide receivers were a one of the best groups in the league.
Nope. Line sucks.WRs suck. Dline sucks.
And I said that months ago, when everyone told me I was crazy, and this was a playoff team.
    Nope.
As I’ve tried to tell everyone,
It’s gonna be a long season.

    (hand over face)

  21. FlBoy84 Says:

Watched a bit of the Dallas game and expect us to get curbstomped on Thurs night.

  22. Itzok Says:

He.ll get some garbage 4th string stats that make it seem like he’s an ok qb, but really Dallas will be winning by 24 points and play prevent so this kid can pad some stats

38 to 12 Dallas. I hope this franchise gets thoroughly embarrassed in prime time and are the laughing stock of the league

Time to trade godwin to the chiefs for a third rd pick
He’ll maybe buffalo would give us a 6th rd pick for vea’s fat arse

Id give licht the chance to pick the next coach since he didn’t pick bowles and probably wanted to fire him last year.
Plus another shot in the draft since we are on pace for the 1st pick

  23. FlBoy84 Says:

For those calling for the next coach to be offense minded, to be fair we already have an “offensive” coach in todd.

  24. Bucs4Ever Says:

Fair enough about Jason L. He did not pick Bowles. But he went along with it.

Baker: Fraud who took alot of $$$ average QB. We should trade him.

Jalon: looked OK, but he’s a rookie. Did pretty well.

  25. J Says:

Wasn’t Egbuka supposed to be the next Megatron for us? Send him packing with the rest of this team. The hype over drafting Bain, the “Miami Mauler”. Another bust in the making. I can’t wait for us to go 0-5 vs. Dallas.

  26. FlBoy84 Says:

Love how todd responds with the “last year was last year” line when media mentions his 2-11 record over the last 13, yet he had NO problem pimping his 3 dreg division titles as proof he should stick around after last year’s collapse. Hope to see someone call this out at some point.

  27. B24i1llybob1 Says:

The season is over yall still here?

  28. FortMyersDave Says:

I have Dallas in my suicide pool, probably will take the Steelers week 6. Bucs may not win a game this year. I wonder how the Glazers will feel about that? No season ticket sales, but then again maybe they have just decided to go Culverhouse as they make TV revenue. A winless season might force the Glazers to fire Licht just to save face. Maybe Spytek was the brains behind the operation.

  29. Fred McNeil Says:

Daniels wasn’t much better or worse than Baker. That blocking scheme looks like it was created in Minnesota by the people at the Quality Learing Center. It’s a total fraud. Too bad we don’t have an international game in Somalia.

  30. JustVisiting Says:

If you can’t protect your QB, you’re gonna lose a lot of games…whoever the QB is.

  31. Hodad Says:

This is what happens when you keep a bad DC as your HC. No continuity on offense do to good OCs getting promoted, and lousy defense. Answer. Fire your bad DC, HC, hire the next Ben Johnson. Who by the way has won games with 3 different QBs. That’s coaching, we have none.

  32. Wayfarer Says:

It will be better to part with Bowles before the season ends. After the season ends there will be other coaches fired. Let’s face facts, there will be pressure from the media and the NFL office as too who is fired and hired.
