Why didn’t the Bucs treat Sunday like a postseason game?
Joe’s not sure. There sure was an awful lot on the line.
Consider what Baker Mayfield said about ramping up this week and noting “it’s not playoff time yet.” Joe is still somewhat flabbergasted by those comments.
Aileen Hnatiuk of WFLA-TV sports sat down with Todd Bowles this week and asked the head coach a great question.
“If you do anything differently in practice this week, what will it be?” Hnatiuk asked.
Bowles replied quickly. “Attention to detail. Gotta be attention to detail, both sides of the ball.”
What? “Attention to detail?” That’s what might be different in practice this week? Jiminy Christmas.
Whether the Bucs want to admit it or not, the team took the Browns lightly, or at least lighter than it should have.
Aside from Bowles feeling his defense was in a good place enterig the game, offensive coordinator Zac Robinson probably was overconfident.
Remember, Robinson is great friends with former Bucs playcaller and current Jaguars head coach Liam Coen. Robinson has said the two talk regularly in-season. Coen and his team had just crushed the Browns in Week 1 after preparing for them all summer. A lot of Coen’s work on Cleveland surely was shared with Robinson last week and several weeks prior.
All Joe can do is hope there is more “attention to detail” this week at One Buc Palace. If not, the boo birds will be flying around The Licht House by halftime against the Vikings.

The problem l have always had with Baker Mayfield
Since he’s been a Bucs, he has NEVER been consistent
He’s got a few games, then cold a few games
But for the past 11 games or so, he’s basically been ice cold
Even back in 2024, his most successful season with us
I can point out 7 games, where he was cold as ice
Detroit – 146 yards passing
Denver–132 yards passing
Atlanta- 173 yards passing
Kansas City – 189 yards passing
San Francisco – 105 yards passing
Carolina – 209 yards passing
New Orleans 216 yards passing
And you throw in the playoff loss to Washington -183 yards passing
Those 7 games he passed for a total of 1,170 yards
But, he passed for 4500 yards on the season
A lot of those yards came in garbage time and against weak defenses
When Baker Mayfield said ( It’s not playoff time yet)
I truly believe he has that ( I can makeup for it ) mentality
I don’t believe he approach every game with a sense of urgency

I keep seeing this tweet Orlovsky put out–showed replay of Browns offense lining up trips left–we had ONE guy over there, and NObody did anything about it. Another play, our corner was 10 yards off, only closed to SIX after the ball was out. For 5 years, this defense has been designed to allow most any pass under 8-9 yards, I’d like to see him explain the logic

How can you fix a problem when you Do not know why the system does not work?
Is there anyone running the geniouse defencive system that Bowles runs?
Has Bowles ever shown the ability to analyze and solve a problem other then throwing S–t at a wall and see what sticks?

In order to be a consistent football team
You have to be consistent in practice as well as in games
And l mean every game
You have to approach every game with the same mentality
It shouldn’t matter if you’re playing
You should prepare for the worst teams the same as you prepare for the best
You have to have that type of mentality

No accountability and it starts with the Glazers they didn’t hold Bowles responsible at the end of last season when he only won 2 games down the stretch. So Bowles doesn’t hold players accountable for loafing or missed tackles and assignments. Until the people that own the team start addressing the issues nothing is going to change.

This team seems to have no killer instinct. Both offensively and defensively they are ho-hum, go with the flow. Let the OLB’s hunt. They are thinking about responsibilities too much. Our offensive gameplan seemed to be screen passes. How about some intermediate passes? Lean on the run game. Treat every game like a playoff game (must win). I’m sick of watching inept gameplans. I’m sick of watching backup or has been QB’s pick apart our zone defense without any pass rush pressure. If Todd Bowles’ defense is so exotic and difficult to learn, why has every offensive coordinator figured it out, but our own players seem to have no clue how to run it.

Think you got it wrong Joe. Bucs were actually trying as hard as they can. They’re just not good. By now it isn’t a fluke that they’ve lost 8 of their last 10. Bad team plays bad every week. It’s not an anomaly, it’s the way it is.

2-9 in their last 11 games. The sand for sure is running out of the hour glass for Bowles (he should have been gone already) and as for Baker, no way I would have extended him until after this season. He needs to find consistency for sure (See Lakelands comments), but, he also needs to close his big mouth and let his play do the talking. The guy just talks too much. Shut up and play. You want to be respected? Let your play on the field do the talking. What comes out of your camera loving mouth means nothing and is worth nothing……..you have your money, now show us all you are worth it.

See it’s these asinine comments that drive us all insane! “attention to detail” “we gotta tackle better” “players need to execute” etc etc. I remember two years in a row now where Bowles has said that he “knew” what was wrong or how they could fix the defense and it looks like the same exact crap every single year.

Stat of the day: WR’s Kam Johnson and Ted Hurst have as many combined solo tackles this season as Vita Vea, Kancey, Muhammed and Nunez-Roches do all together.
Lack of attention to detail overall led to death by a thousand cuts.
There isn’t a single play you can point to from either the Bengals or Browns game and go “That’s what caused the loss”. One or more players made a minor or major mistake on virtually every play, even some with positive outcomes.
Even if he’s the root of the problem, firing Todd Bowles right away isn’t going to fix that. In fact it’s going to make it worse. Fewer coaches who weren’t doing their jobs well in the first place will turn an unknown outcome into a guaranteed 2 win or less season. Go that route and there’s literally nothing left to talk about this season except who we’re going to draft in April. Been there and done that, no thank you.

Joe’s- LOOK AT TREVOR LAWRENCE’S ADVANCED STATS FROM WEEK 1 AGAINST CLEVELAND. (See down below)
On throws 10+ yards downfield, Lawrence completed 11 of his 12 attempts for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Those three touchdowns on such passes were the most of any game in Lawrence’s career.
Lawrence also completed all 5 of his passing attempts out of an empty formation with an average of 22.8 air yards an attempts
On top of that, Lawrence completed
Coen had Lawrence chucking down the field against the Browns. Clearly Robinson and Coen don’t talk a whole lot, or if they do, Robinson doesn’t take his advice because the stats down below makes me sad. You can’t tell me Robinson didn’t watch film from this game and realize this.

I don’t know what the heck is going on!!! Bowles doesn’t either!! Robinson doesn’t either !! Does the problem exist because the Bucs O almost only practices against the Bucs D!! Two subpar squads looking good when the compete against each other but looking so bad when they compete against other NFL teams????? If the Bucs look bad again Sunday, that could be a tell!!! Then for sure it’s time for a new GM, HC, et al.

Minnesota, they will be the team opposite you and wearing purple, they like to blitz and blitz often. Unlike your Bucs, they tend to get home and disrupt. You may want to be prepared for that.

@Beeej : nice quote – that kind of thinking is Bradyesque – lots of study and attention to detail – watching Baker is exciting but watching Jameis was exciting too – with Jameis it was always waiting for him to screw up – not there with Baker yet – although I notice how Baker runs with the ball , arms wide holding the ball in one hand as if to pass – more likely the ball gets knocked loose and he’s not fooling the defense that he’s gonna do a Mahomes throw to an open receiver – Baker’s style suggests that he’s an improviser but he’s not a Mahomes or Allen –
he’s good but he’s just not that good – not a pin-point pocket passer but not a consistently wily scrambler either – just kinda “good enough”

Their defense is almost identical to the Browns with very similar blitz packages. This game is a personal audition for Brian Flores to the Glazers. If they do to the Bucs what I think they will, his name goes on the interview list after the season is over.

This is an unserious team. Other teams in the division are getting better. Bucs are getting worse. The fans have identified the problems and brought them to light. Team Glazer doesn’t seem to care and would rather have a few loosing seasons it seems like instead of make expensive changes. That’s what it looks like to me. This defense hasn’t been good since 2020

The Boo Birds need to boo every pass behind the line of scrimmage that doesn’t get a good gain, every horribly inaccurate throw by Baker, and every time Baker is too slow making a decision on Offense. And on Defense, they need to boo every easily competed pass by the Vikings offense and every missed tackle.

College teams have more focus and attention to detail than this team right now. Bowles, again, is showing his lack of leadership ability. Great leaders set an expectation of excellence, where attention to detail is part of the formula of success. If your guys aren’t meeting the expectation hold them to it. Wishing they do it sets you on a path to failure. Also, don’t act like the problems are just now being discovered. If you did your job right you would have properly evaluated each and every player on this team and ensured this behavior would not continue to happen. It appears Bowles is either inept or has retired on the job for awhile now, because it looks like he either doesn’t get it or doesn’t care.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over with no change in results. The Glazers and JL thought if we changed a few coaches and added a few “bad asses” on the field, things would miraculously change from last year. Guess what, it starts from the top, which is the head coach. You can put perfume on a turd, but it still smells like a turd. Nothing will change this year from the last half of 2025. This is a lost season thst will result in 5 or less wins and no playoffs. I wish I was wrong, but I’m not. I’ve seen this broken record for the last 13 games now and it’s not about to change until a new coach comes in next year.

Unless I see something different on the field, it’s all meaningless chirping because they’re required to talk to the media. More explanations that fans find satisfying isn’t going to make a bit of difference. I’ve thrown in the towel on this team until I see competent, aggressive play on both offense and defense. They’re cooked, but I hope they prove me wrong.

Todd believes his “system “ works. He just can’t find the perfect 11 players that play it better. Other than that the system is flawless…. And with this statement I am in no way defending Baker but the Highly Paid left tackle has been trash I. The first two games along with most of his O line teammates.
Glazedeers just don’t care they are saving millions while Todd pretends to be HC and DC. Here is the short list from big money not living up to paychecks:

Shouldn’t attention to detail be a given? There’s only seventeen of these a year. Seventeen, as in games assured. These are professional athletes and coaches. They’re full time job, forty plus hours a week is pro football that’s it.

Folks have every right to be pissed at BM right now. My view is if you don’t want fans pissed at you then play well. The heat would not be on BM if he played well and the team still lost. The fact he acted like a petulant child to get his contract and plays like total s*** gets him all the heat he deserves. This league doesn’t give out participation trophies. The Bucs didn’t treat the Browns game as a post-season game because, even if they did, how would we know? Bowles can’t game plan. Pre-Season, Regular Season or Post-Season(which we won’t see with old Todd). Just a terrible Head Coach with no in-game awareness and no leadership skills. The Money Grubbing Glazers know this and don’t care.
