“Teams Have Been Calling” For Vita Vea

“Look, Howie, I’m only talking to AFC teams right now.”
So iconic manbeast Buccaneers nose tackle Vita Vea, a Tampa Bay Super Bowl champion, wants a trade.
That is today’s sad news.
Vea wants a contract extension and possibly guaranteed pay beyond the $18 million he’s in line to earn this season — the final year of a four-year contract he was happy to sign early in 2022.
So will the Bucs trade him.
NFL Network reporter Mike Garofolo said tonight on TV it’s his understanding that “teams have been calling” the Bucs for Vea.
And Garofolo also explained that leaguewide teams have known for months the Bucs and Vea weren’t seeing eye-to-eye and trade calls likely came to Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht weeks ago.
Joe thinks Vea could fetch one third-round and one fifth-round draft pick. That doesn’t sound like fair compensation, but it’s late July and it’s brutally tough to score a second-round pick this time of year for an older player.
Maybe the Bucs could score a second-round pick if Tampa Bay coughs up a fourth- or fifth-round pick along with Vea.

Sad, he is a beast inside, when he is on the field. The economics and business side isn’t lending itself to this stalwart Buc. He will do well, and still has something in the tank, but signing aging players under limited cap space requires tough decisions.

So if this has been known league wide for months, why has Gas Licht been sitting on his hands this entire time? Why didn’t he make the most of this unfortunate situation and try to trade Vita much earlier?

Sad to say but sounds like the Bucs are ready to let Vea go. Their timing is bad because teams smell blood in the water and the Bucs won’t get what he is worth. Hate to see him leave. I believe it is going to be a rough year for this defense without him. Well if you did not think the Bucs were rebuilding then you might take another look now. Dean, Evans, David and Vea. A yes that win total this year just dropped a game or two. 5 win season in the works?

Does football a WAR stat like baseball? Because I find it hard to believe Vita is a 2 or 3 win difference maker at age 31. He had a great run here, but if he wants to leave, thanks for the COVID BOWL win. Take the extra picks.

You only get so many franchise tags.
It’s looking more and more that Mike Evans frustration about winning now is a major issue for th front office.
Rookies want money, vets and stars want to win.
The fans want results not promises of a good season years from now.
I have a 80 inch tv inside, a 55 by th pool and it’s 100 degrees at the stadium.
A season without traffic and from the confront of home is easy to digest than dropping a grand in the heat when I know the front office is already working on the 27 or 28 season.
Don’t ask for my money if you aren’t putting yours up.

Vea wants a big raise and the Bucs want a winning 2026 season.
So the Bucs are supposed to sacrifice their season to placate veterans who are under contract?
And if Vea pulls an Evans and signs with another contender for less money after a trade- what does that say about the Bucs’ organization?
The Suh video was tasteless and the Bucs, coming off a 2-7 finish last year, need to stand strong in negotiations with Mayfield and Vea- overpaying them both could ruin the team for 2-3 years – and if the players hold out and ruin the team that way, the Bucs will have alot of cap space to rebuild.

I think you could get a late 2nd rounder, again, Buffalo seems like the most obvious team that is in a win-now situation and would be willing to pay-up. Maybe you get them to throw in their starter at DT from last year who as OK and is young. Perhaps you could get into the range of a 1st if you threw in a 3rd or 4th with Vita.
But I’m giving Vita an extension myself. However, if you can’t do a deal, just flip him – and I think right now is the most you’ll get as in-season trades rarely work out well, in particular since looking at the schedule I think the Bucs get off to a hot start, before going into the tank like they do every mid-season, and the Bucs will be just good enough to not be sellers – and end up with nothing when Vita leaves, and if he holds out, he probably won’t even be that productive when he does report.

Also last year he played the highest snap percentage of his career, at 73%, which is a high number for a defensive lineman.

Can you dummies even once try to be honest. You know, we all know, the Bucs offered Evans a lot more money than the 49ers – and Evans didn’t want to take it, because he didn’t want to be stuck with Baker as his QB. As he said, he wanted to go to a championship team with a good QB, and that QB isn’t the 2-11 in primetime and playoffs Baker Mayfield.

Licht is the master of bringing back washed up retreads that never work out. But he keeps doing it over and over…

Would make sense if kancey wasn’t injured every year I think vea does have a bit of leverage even coming off a down year…but if we keep him the next question is would he even want to be here.

Tony: Rashaad White burned his briddges with the team when he publicly said that he thought Bowles should give up calling plays for the D. This definitely hurt him in the long run as he got a low-ball $2 million deal from Washington while you saw what the Bucs paid for Gainwell and interestingly, the deal they gave to Sean Tucker was almost double what Whiote ended up with. I think calling out Bowles, although gutsy and spot on, did have repurcussions outside of Tampa and it shows in the contract he got. Long story short, Rashaad got boned for calling out Bowles.

Rod Munch, 2nd round pick from Buffalo would be a very late 2nd round pick. Unfortunately, the Bucs will probably not get full value for Vea but if Buffalo was interested, maybe they would take a swing and a late 2nd from the Bills would not be much different in value than a 3rd and a 6th from Vegas who will likely have a very high 3rd round pick……
