A Chris Braswell Sighting!

July 29th, 2026

Bucs OLB Chris Brawell at training camp practice Wednesday.

Maybe Jason Licht was right?

At the 2025 combine, the Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager famously boasted on the “Ira Kaufman Podcast” that Chris Braswell, the 2024 second-round pick of the Bucs, was going to shock people.

The only shock was that Braswell was as invisible as Ghost Johnson.

So this fall, heck, this summer, could be a make-or-break time for Braswell. Though the Bucs don’t like to toss away high draft picks, the way the Bucs attacked adding edge rushers this offseason, Braswell is currently on the bottom rung of the pass rusher roster ladder.

If Braswell is going to make the team, he better start flashing and flashing right away. It seems he did that today.

Yes, it is just one practice. Yes, it is just the first practice. Yes, it is still underwear football in the first week of training camp. So Joe understands the full context. Still, it was refreshing to see Braswell race in from the left side — against the second-team offense — and “bury” quarterback Jake Browning.

Since it is still underwear football, where hitting is forbidden, Braswell didn’t literally “bury” Browning. But if this were a game, he sure would have.

Again, just one practice. In shorts. It’s really hard to make the leap that a play in underwear football means a guy has finally turned the corner.

But with Braswell, any good play, regardless of the circumstances, is welcome.

Anything better than nothing will be good enough to get Braswell a roster spot. His contract is guaranteed so there aren’t any savings there if he’s cut. He was okay on ST last season – which probably carries as much weight for the 5th or 6th OLB as his ability to get to the QB.

Hall of Fame! He made a play! Licht wasn’t lying!

    Super Bowl!!!

  3. JimBobBuc Says:

We have lots of HOPE this time of year. Last year, Licht tried to encourage Bras and it didn’t work. Maybe Bras will play better either way his job on the line.

Or maybe the 2nd team tackle blew it.

  5. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Sure, we will keep him. It’s the Buc style. Throw away roster spots. What the hell. It’s better than recognize you flubbed another high pick again.

I haven’t given up on McCollum, but I have given up on this guy. I hope he can prove me wrong.

  9. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

As crowded as the OLB room has gotten, he better show something. Even then, still going to have to fight tooth and nail to earn a roster spot come final cuts

  10. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Buster Braswell makes one play in practice and it is fit to write about? That means it is still July. By the time we hit September, Buster Braswell will be Bye Bye Braswell.

encouraging…now lets see if he can keep it up

    GO BUCS!!!!

  12. John Sinclear Says:

Nick Saban was asked on TV why Braswell couldn’t rush the QB. Saban’s reply was “He can if they’d let him”. Figure it out!

Why all the hate for Jason when he’s just trying to fill a need we have. I mean he’s deff not the greatest at scouting ends tho he makes up for it on the Oline WRs and even his DBs got the name gravediggers and we won a SB of the like of Davis dean SMB Winfield he was a rook whitehead and Edwards. All drafted by Jason and yall will love this developed by Bowles. So called fans which they aren’t want to run Jason out of town. Dude will be in the HOF. He’s drafted 2 shoe in HOF players Mike Evans and Wirfs. Wirfs is the best in the league at 2 positions. Winfield could be a 3rd and looked liked it a few years ago when we single handily won us like 3 games. If he gets back to that type of play watch out. Jason got Brady to Tampa talked BA out of retirement traded for JPP and gronk signed case head AB who if not loosing it mostly win back to back SB. Also has drafted a lot of good quality players shall I go on cause also there’s not one GM who is perfect but dam Jason has done a lot of good for Tampa. I trust him so should you

Maybe we can package Braswell up with Vita Vea, kind of a defensive package for a 1st round pick.

  18. Critmark Says:

#1bucsfan Says: “I trust him so should you” referring to GM Licht.

Sorry but this is a ‘what have you done for me lately’ league. Going in to this season, the Bucs roster is ranked in the bottom half of the league at #18. That despite the fact that he had had the benefit of lower cap space at QB than most of the top teams with better rosters. And while I readily admit this may be coming down from the top, the current state of the roster plus the contract extension approach has turned off some Bucs players and I would imagine many free agents who want nothing to do with Tampa unless they are being paid way over market.

Given the current snapshot, he is not a great GM. Can he regain his glorious past, who knows?

  19. SlyPirate Says:

Sounds like the leftside of our OL sucks. 2 sacks in the first practice.

  20. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Underwear football is meaningless. Morrison and Braswell are certified busts!
