Baker Mayfield Passing Chart Game 11

November 26th, 2024

So NextGen Stats led Joe to believe Baker Mayfield had his best day throwing long of 2024 with 172 yards on throws beyond 10 yards on Sunday, but his passing chart, also by NextGen Stats, doesn’t seem to reflect that.

(Here is where you can find the reference to Mayfield’s 172 yards passing on long passes.)

In fact, Mayfield still seems to have the same strike zone; the vast majority of his throws are less than 20 yards from the line of scrimmage.

Mayfield completed 24 passes Sunday. Only three were past the 20-yard barrier. So the chart suggests Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen and Mayfield haven’t deviated from the previous 10 games. Sixteen of Mayfield’s completions came within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage or behind the line of scrimmage.

Joe’s not complaining. The offense is not the problem and hasn’t been all year.

To whine about not throwing long passes when the offense is putting up points is nitpicking.

Whatever works. And right now the Bucs offense, as it has been for most of the season, is working.

  1. D Cone Says:

Go ahead and show just exactly how short Mayfield’s passes are, especially to the running backs, and then rave about how ” Bucky Irving has best Receiving Hands among RB’s.

Good teams shut that Stat Padding stuff down and send you home in the first round if you make it to the dance at all.

  2. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Our offense line was fabulous Sunday especially when your at the game live!!! watching from the end zone. Bake had all day long, thought I was dreaming. Well anyhow I was proud to be there representing felt good!!! Go Bucs

  3. BA’s Red Pen Says:

The Bucs are scoring 28.1 per game, 4th in the league. Pretty damn good.

  4. August 1976 Buc Says:

The offense has carried their weight. If the Defense had carried their weight, the record would be a lot better. Nice to have a blow out win after a month of losing

    GO BUCS!!!

  5. PSL Bob Says:

What I love about this chart is that there are no red dots.

  6. Trask To The Future Says:

First… it was against the GIANTS.

Second… stop saying his pass chart distribution is due to LIAM COEN. This a cop out. I’ve seen many long routes that Mayfield hasn’t thrown the ball to. This doesn’t mean Coen isn’t drawing up deeper plays, it means Mayfield isn’t throwing them. I’m sure Coen IS calling many shorter routes to make it easier on Mayfield, but to claim there are no deep throws due to Coen not calling for deeper routes seems wrong based on many of the deeper routes I’ve seen run in games – I highly doubt they’re all decoy routes.

  7. Beeej Says:

The fact we’re still getting large chunks on shorter passes tells me Liam draws up very good routes. If that works, why mess with it?

  8. HC Grover Says:

We beAt the stuffings out of the worst team in the NFL. They have overtake the Panthers for the bottom of the barrel. A WIN THIS WEEK AND WE ARE BACK TO NORMAL…..500

  9. Dave Pear Says:

Trashk to the Stupid. Your namesake would’ve taken at least four sacks with Glennonesque pocket awareness and been lucky to have put up 19 points.

At least you got to see what we have in him during mop up duty.

    Oh, wait.

That’s how bad Glennon sucks. He can’t even get into the game to hand the ball off.

  10. Jack Sparrow Says:

If the bucs are really a strong offensive team, Bucs should have scored 50 pts against the lowly Giants. Just like what the Lions did to the Jags.

  11. RamblingRhino Says:

Hey Pear, how do you claim to know that what you stated? You a soothsayer, an oracle, the great great great grandchild of Nostradomus? Or are you basically typing it to see your words on screen? None of us Buc fans know what Bucs QB#2 would’ve could’ve done.. Including YOU..

If you do know the future please do tell us this weeks $478,000,000.00 lottery numbers. We could all use a little extra cash, and we.could all meet up and share a drink over your prophecies…

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

  12. BakerFan Says:

The so-called Bucs Fans AKA BUC-HOLES are the worst fans in the NFL. Just read some of these guys posts, pathetic.

  13. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Bakerfan look at yer name you’re not even a Bucs fan so what are yew talking about??? It’s yew clowns who blindly follow one man wherever he goes around the league and the only reason you’re here is because of him. You “dudes” and I use that term loosely act like he can walk on water, make water into wine and feed 5000 with a few fish and loaves of bread. Lose your mind because people still down him and aren’t in love with him like yew people are

  14. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

He is the main reason you are winning for 2 years now. Remember last year you were supposed to win 4 whole games, remember that?

  15. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

He is currently a top 5 quarterback in all the metrics the NFL considers important. He was a walk on in college. So yeah we like him, a lot.

  16. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

You took the unbeaten superbowl champions Kansas City to OT and we all know that could have easily went the other way. You are the only team to beat Detriot. Tampa is on the verge of being a very good team with the walk-on as your quarterback. Try to be a little positive even if you were completely wrong about your quarterback.

  17. Buc4evr Says:

High percentage passes to guys that can get YAC. White, Bucky, Otton. Makes sense to take what the defense gives you and move the chains. Think Coen is doing a great job, hope we can keep him here.

  18. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

Coen is worth his weight in gold. Hopefully they realize it

  19. Dave Pear Says:

Rhinos are among the stupidest quadripeds to ever roam the earth. Proof is embedded in this thread.

  20. Crickett Baker Says:

Short stature, short passes, I LOVE the wins and I don’t care how they are coming as long as we win! BTW, has everyone forgotten that a first down is only 10 yards??

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Sucke was in at LT. With that trash player out there, you get rid of the ball quickly unless you want to get Baker killed.

I think once Wirfs is back, and assuming there aren’t more injuries, and with Evans back, I think we’ll start seeing some more downfield passes. With that said, Baker has sucked passing down the field for the most part. So while you need to take shots to keep the field open underneath, they should probably just be some token shots unless Baker is hot and actually on target.

Regardless, the short passing game has been working remarkably well this season, so no reason to change it up just for the sake of doing so.

  22. Kenton Smith Says:

Joe – earlier you linked us to “last year our running game sucked so bad”. Read down in that article. Baker may be the reason Liam is here. Guys Liam was a great college player. Gifted. He was a QB. He and Baker know the QB position as well as any pair in the league. Tons of experience and cutting edge play calling. It’s like we’ve got 2 QBs on the field. This offense is getting better!! Goal this week should be no turnovers, no punts!GO BUCS!!!

  23. orlbucfan Says:

Dave Pear, you insult your username. Consistently. I hop the Bucs sail into Charlotte and skin the Panthers. I look forward to your comments afterwards.

  24. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Nothing wrong with high % plays to keep the chains moving
