Chucky Gives Baker Mayfield Stamp Of Approval

November 25th, 2024

“If I had f’ing Baker when I was with the Bucs, I would have won two more rings. Instead, I got stuck with g@#damned Brian Griese. What a f’ing stiff! Jiminy Christmas!”

Forget about the implications of the Bucs’ win over the Giants for a moment. Let’s pretend it was just a Week 2 game. How fun was that?

How fun was it to watch one of the best first-half offensive performances the Bucs have ever had? And how fun was it to watch Baker Mayfield?

The Bucs quarterback did it all. He ran. He threw (very well). He scored a touchdown. And he blocked?

Maybe one of the best images Joe has ever seen was of Mayfield, who was well in front of Bucky Irving at midfield, waving to Irving to follow him, like a third base coach in baseball waving a runner to score from second base.

It was as if Mayfield was yelling to Irving, “Follow me. Follow me to freedom!”

Joe doesn’t ever remember a quarterback running 45 yards downfield to throw a block, and actually executing it. That was awesome.

And you know who else liked it? Chucky. The first Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback, who now works for Barstool Sports, took to Twitter to give Mayfield a major shoutout for his heart and his hustle.

“Baker is a premier competitor,” someone typed for Chucky. “He launches himself for a TD, he makes terrific scramble plays, and he wills it out of his teammates. He’s a fireball.”

You just know every dude wearing a white jersey yesterday in New Jersey was absolutely stoked to see Mayfield — with a 23-point lead in the fourth quarter — hauling arse downfield some 45 yards looking for someone to hit to spring Irving for six.

When players see a quarterback do that, not only do they get pumped, it motivates them even more.

It would be kind of cool to think what it would have been like with Mayfield playing for Chucky. Mayfield may have been Chucky’s second Rich Gannon.

Anybody remember the “GREAT BRUCE GRADKOWSKI”?????

……..oh how Chucky loved him, but he was nothing but a glorified back up QB.

  2. Joe Says:

    Chucky likes everyone

    “Love that guy!”

  3. adam from ny Says:

    chucky wants back in…

    3 cheers for the chuckaneer

  4. Marky Mark Says:

And he judged on content of charachter not……

  5. Bosch Says:

It all stated with the stiff arm in the 2023 opener against the Vikings. This is Baker’s team!

  6. danbucsfan Says:

Thankful for Baker and our Bucs!

  7. zzbucs Says:

I hope he doesn’t come back ever …..
I think he is an outdated HC I am not a judge, but not sure if he can gain the locker room…..

  8. David Kilmer Says:

Well we know, personnel picks, ie the draft are not his fortay, as yes he likes the wrong players that has been established.
However, he doesn’t like everyone that is for sure. He is an emotional guy and does highly react when he sees passion on the field. Baker does that. So let’s applaud Chucky for giving deserving props to Baker

  9. Temple Terrace Bucs Fan Says:

Poor guy was slandered for things that are said in locker rooms, fields and among people on a daily basis and has paid a heavy price.

I for one haven’t forgotten what he did for this team in back in 2002 and was glad to see he was a guest of the Glazers a few weeks ago. Hopefully they put him back to his rightful place in the Ring of Honor.

  10. Bucsfan Says:

All the more reason to NEVER risk Bakers’ health in garbage time-that is the time of the game when players get hurt-and that is why smart coaches NEVER have their stars out there during garbage time. This needs to be corrected ASAP before we lose our season because of it.

  11. Durango 95 Says:

Chucky liked Aaron Rodgers too. Not enough to draft him, as he said he would. His career would look a lot different if he had. Chucky can’t be trusted.

That was a long season. I believe that was the year Chris Simms broke his spleen.

  13. El HEFE Says:

Looks like Baker was saying, follow me to freedom. I doubt that he was probably saying hey Bucky, I got the next block. Follow me.

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

On to Carolina. We need to work on RB ball security this week. Tucker needs to learn kickoff rules, Otton needs better concentration, etc.

Can Canales’ offense out-plan Bowles’ defense? Can the Bucs maintain their intensity and focus against a division opponent – when division games are usually tight?

  15. Brandon Says:

Say what you want about Baker. He’s short, he has occasional bouts of inaccurracy. He gets a little too fired up. Forces balls into coverage. But there’s never been a Bucs QB that tries as hard as he does. That dude has an enormous heart and he gets me pumped up and emotional watching him play. No chance in the world his teammates don’t feel the same. He’s already one of our all-time great Buc QBs. His intangibles are through the roof. I liked the signing when he came here.. but now I absolutely LOVE the guy. From his week ONE first down run late in the game last season against Minnesota until now… this dude is maybe the fieriest leader to ever take snaps in a Bucs uni.

  16. BA’s Red Pen Says:

The first thing Gruden would do is replace Baker, Gruden is never happy with his current starter and is always looking somewhere else.

  17. Bobby Says:

Agreed Joe, Great game and Baker was incredible yesterday!! Hats off to Liam Cohen too!! I like how much Bucky got to touch the ball yesterday. Bucky is a star! Homerun draft pick for the Lichthouse. Keep giving it to Bucky heavily. Get more touches to Sean Tucker. Tucker is awesome too. Tucker gets better as the game is going on with more touches. Im wondering if a 3 year contract was enough for Baker this past offseason. So great to see Mike Evans back yesterday!! Evans was great again!!!The offense is really something special when he is out there making the tough catches. Jason Skule stepped up and had a solid game. He is holding it down while Wirfs is out. How about Future Hall of Famer Vita Vea yesterday. He was blowing through offensive lineman like the rag dolls. He was dominate, sacking Devito, stuffing runners. Vea evan played offense in goal line situations. Vea was on offense blocking in goal situations too. See Vea on offense reminded me of Warren Sapp back in the day blocking and catching td passes in goal situations. Hey just once I would love to see Cohen call a play where Baker hands the ball off to Vita Vea in a goal line situation lol.. Didn’t Vea play running back in high school?? I remember seeing the highlight reel of that online. Oh shout out to Future Hall of Famer Lavonte David, he was just being Lavonte yesterday and making plays. Cade Otton was awesome again too. Zion and Winfield played well too. Winfield dropped an interception that was right in his hands?? Still not seeing the interceptions coming from this Todd Bowles Defense. I mean maybe it’s because I was spoiled watching the Bucs in late 90s and 2000s defense just dominate, catching interceptions and running for scores like what felt like at every game. Back then Rich McCay would draft 3rd, 4th round secondary guys and then Monte would coach them up and bame. There catching interceptions in no time. But Bowles guys that he coaches up and can’t really catch any balls!! Why is that?? That’s got to be from coaching. Anyway Go Bucs!!

  18. Stillabucsfan Says:

He had his shot with Garcia at qb. Mayfield reminds me a lot of the Garcia days with the grit and determination he plays with.

  19. orlbucfan Says:

    Big deal.

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Mayfield is like restaurant grade prime beef. Garcia was like dogfood. Any comparison between the two is an insult to Baker.

  21. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Looking back through the years of Buc QBs since 1978, I don’t think the Bucs have had a QB quite like Backer Mayfield. I can’t even remember all their names and some could run OK and some could pass accurately, but I can not recall one that could do both like Baker. To think we picked him off the streets is just amazing. It makes me think that their is some serious evaluations that are not accurate in the NFL. Who else is out there?

That block for Bucky was outstanding. Who have we EVER had that would and could pull that off. Trask??

  22. BucsfaninOregon Says:

    ” there is some”

  23. Bowles4President Says:

Gruden chews out guys on the sideline in front of the country when he’s upset, and I don’t think that would effectively motivate Baker. I don’t see them working together well.

  24. Kenton Smith Says:

    Thanks Dave Pear.

  25. Joe Says:

Gruden chews out guys on the sideline in front of the country when he’s upset, and I don’t think that would effectively motivate Baker. I don’t see them working together well.

Baker would snap back at him.

  26. Hodad Says:

I would like to see Gruden down I-4 as my UCF Knights head coach. Gus needs to be put on the bus out of town.

  27. Buchen61 Says:

When its all said in done and he stays relatively healthy Baker will be the best quarterback the Bucs have ever rostered. If we can get the defense straightened out multiple Superbowls are well in our grasp… Baker is generational. Ive been banging his drum since day one !!!!

  28. Bobby Says:

Go Gruden, I definitely could be onboard for another coaching stint with Jon Gruden as Bucs HC. Just don’t let him shop for the groceries and near personnel decisions. Just have him coach players and call plays. That’s what he is great at. Let someone else pick the players. Jon just coaches them up. Also Jons offense is too complicated for players to learn. He needs to simplify some of his offense. NFL HCs get maybe 2 or 3 years to turn teams into winners or there fired. Jon doesn’t have 5 years for a QB and other players to learn his offense.

  29. Buchen61 Says:

Once upon a time these bucs had a young qb by the name of Steve Young… I believe he is the only bucs rookie qb to win his first start. We traded him to San Fran for a defensive player who blew out his knee i believe in his first game .,.

  30. Biggun Says:

I never buy QB jerseys but I’m all in on BAKER so I’m ordering one today…. Damn he can ball and got balls too! GO BUCS!

  31. Citrus County Says:

This is dangerous territory for the Glazers if they are even remotely considering Chucky. Chucky and Baker together would be far too volatile. The Baker/Liam chemistry works.

  32. Moosevincent Says:

I am an OU sooner fan so obviously, I am a bit of a homer. I have followed Baker’s career since college and I am telling everybody out there, He is one of a kind. I doubt there’s ever been a quarterback in the history of NFL football who’s running 45 yards downfield to throw a block! if you combine his talent, leadership qualities, and competitiveness he is in the top echelon of NFL quarterbacks. All nay sayers about Baker should get off that horse and start enjoying the ride.

  33. Larrd Says:

    Baker looked faster than Bucky.

  34. Kenton Smith Says:

Larry hope Baker can see this post. He’d print it and give it to Bucky and needle him about it the rest of the season. And Bucky would probably be a step faster every time he touched the ball.
