Baker Mayfield Rested With Starters Against Jets

August 19th, 2023

Baker Mayfield

UPDATED 9:49 p.m. – Last week, head coach Todd Bowles strongly implied that competing quarterback Kyle Trask and fellow QB Baker Mayfield would get the same amount of snaps tonight in Preseason Game 2 as each had in Preseason Game 1.

The implication was that a serious QB competition was underway and Trask would start tonight so Bowles could see both quarterbacks under the same scenarios through two preseason games.

Mayfield started in Week 1 but he will not play in tonight’s game. Trask played the entire first half and played well. The Buccaneers Radio Network delivered the Mayfield report at halftime. There was no mention of Mayfield being injured, only that the Bucs decided not to play him.

Joe imagines this reality has completely flummoxed fans who actually believed a legitimate quarterback competition was happening.

Joe attended the Bucs-Jets joint practice on Wednesday and Trask got as many or more first-team reps as Mayfield. It was a shade more for Trask based on Joe’s count.

As JoeBucsFan.com icon Ira Kaufman reported nine days ago, the Bucs internally made their decision on a QB1. He’ll be on the field next week for the “dress rehearsal” game against the Ravens.

UPDATED 9:49 p.m. – Third-string QB John Wolford was injured against the Jets late in the third quarter and Trask returned to replace him, not Mayfield.

From the time we signed baker. I had a feeling that a QB comp was just talk. Baker was the starter. Toilet bowl doing what toilet bowl does best.

  2. Oneilbuc Says:

I told y’all that Baker Mayfield was gifted the starting job it was never a competition. They lied to us to promote Baker Mayfield and sale tickets they didn’t know that Kyle Trask would out play him lol 🤣🤣!!

  4. Oneilbuc Says:

Todd Bowles deserves to be fired Kyle Trask is the better quarterback than Baker Mayfield and he proved it. This is the only organization that let a quarterback that’s been in the NFL for 5 years and now on his 4th team in 6 years and couldn’t put play Kyle Trask but is named the starter. This was never a competition and Joe bucs knew it the whole time. But they got what wanted the best man for the starting quarterback will not be on the field and it was proven tonight!!

  5. A Bucs Fan Says:

    Terrible.

  6. Mike in Arkansas Says:

They played us like a fiddle. Sheeple.

  7. IrishTony Says:

As I said all along Mayfield would be the starter but I do think Trask is slowly becoming a competent number 2.

  8. Give it a Rest, Trask Bridge Says:

FFS, Trask Brigade, Mayfield BEAT Trask in the competition. He did it training camp by a bigger margin than was reported, and he did it in play and the joint practice.

They split snaps 50/50 and gave Trask every chance.

Trask hasn’t looked like a starting NFL quarterback – maybe with more time, but not yet.

Mayfield has started sixty nine games AND he looked better in minicamp and the important part of training camp – the end.

It’s not some conspiracy. If Trask had been better, Bowles would have started him. He hasn’t even looked close yet.

  9. Give it a Rest, Trask Bridge Says:

    Go Bucs!

  10. Oneilbuc Says:

Give it a rest. Yea keep telling yourself that lol 🤣🤣🤣 every body know why Baker Mayfield is starting and has nothing to with his play in training camp or preseason. He’s the starter because of popularity and that’s what sale tickets. Lol 🤣 next year Baker Mayfield will be on his 5 team in 7 years and what’s going to be the new excuse for Baker Mayfield is the question? Lol 🤣🤣🤣

  11. Mike S Says:

Mayfield will get BFTO this is going to be an embarrassing season.

  12. DBS Says:

What they may know now is how short a leash Mayfield can be on. And Trask can come in and win games. But once again the teams evaluate that. Not us armchairs.

  13. Voice of Truth Says:

It’s a bad decision. Kyle has so much more upside. He is looking better every game. Had multiple drops that would have made his numbers spectacular – avoided the rush well, made quick decisions – stands tall in the pocket – imagine him throwing to Mike and Chris…

Baker is a coach on the hot seat decision – look how that worked for Matt Rhule

  14. A Bucs Fan Says:

Roberto Aguayo got a more fair shot to start than Trask did. Kid was straight up lied to.

  15. Tbbucs3 Says:

Bowels-Canales have totally mismanaged this and should’ve officially named Baker from the get go….how many reps has Mayfield missed out on with the first team just to maintain the illusion of a QB competition?

This is literal high school football stuff.

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Kyle Trask is a better fit with Evans & Godwin than Mayfield is. His accuracy tonight in throwing the ball down the field on intermediate & deep throws was very good. If Bowles & Canales do decide to start Mayfield for Game 1, they’d better have him on an extremely short leash because this season could get out of hand very quickly. Trask is a rookie for the most part, but his upside looks to be a lot higher than Mayfield’s. Plus he’s under contract next year & Mayfield isn’t.

  17. Bucsfantim Says:

We really need to stop justifying Baker Mayfield because he’s started 60 games…
You know else who has started 60+ games? Marcus Mariota.

    Starting experience means barely anything.

  18. Give it a Rest, Trask Bridge Says:

Oneillbuc, it’s hard to accept, I know, but Trask lost the competition midway through camp. He had a good stretch and came back after a poor showing in OTAs but then plateaued and hasn’t developed far enough to start.

You are die-hard Trasker and you’re not going to listen to reason, so keep commenting your nonsense on each and every post.

Based on game tape and practice reports, I’d sooner start Wolford over Trask – this isn’t a pro-Mayfield post, it’s a Trask is not ready for the NFL post. Maybe with another season developing. Maybe never.

THIS exactly is what has me frustrated the most.

  20. NYbucsfan Says:

One day closer to Todd being fired!!! He is terrible.

  21. WyomingJoe Says:

I’m not reading anyone talking about Trask throwing those dink ‘n dunk passes in tonight’s game. He’s played ok, but not great. I give him credit, but he’s not the starter on this team.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Trask looked great tonight, if he didn’t have some drops, his numbers would have been even better.

    Not that it matters.

5-12 Mayfield is gonna be the man! Well until he loses his job after the Buffalo game, and the only reason he doesn’t lose his job before that is because Todd will need someone to throw to the wolves, so he’ll need to keep Mayfield around, otherwise it will be him being thrown to the wolves.

  23. K_bassuka Says:

One can only hope the team is successful with garbage Maybefield 😒🙄or we get to draft a real QB and start over with a HC 😑

  24. StormyInFl Says:

Do you people really believe the BS you spew? Mayfield was ‘gifted’ the starting job to sell tickets? Of all the stupid things I’ve read, this is by far the dumbest thing yet. Trask could be marketed as well or better to all you gator homers. Sheesh….

  25. Give it a Rest, Trask Bridge Says:

@ Defense Rules – the game tape will not be kind to Trask tonight. He made risky throws and was not accurate. Did he looked lost tonight, no. But has he looked near as good as many other team’s QB2s this preseason. No.

Mayfield when healthy was an elite deep passer- his skillset suits Godwin and Evans.

Mayfield’s ceiling in 2020 was top 8 in the NFL. Can he be that guy again? Maybe not.

Trask’s ceiling might not even be NFL starter based on his rudimentary QBing he’s put on tape this preseason. Basic things he doesn’t do. Maybe he can learn, maybe not.

One is a proven commodity, the other hasn’t proved anything.

As for 60 games, I’d start Mariota over Trask at this point, even after seeing what he did yesterday with the Eagles. Trask just isn’t ready yet.

If you’re a Trask fan you should be hoping he gets lots of reps as QB2 or QB3 this year and develops.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

WyomingJoe – no, he played great tonight, and speaking of dink and dunk, did you see that last play?

I’m not Trask fanboi, but he played great, and without the drops, his stats would be even better.

  27. tampabuscsbro Says:

I mean there really is no downside to Trask.

He is good HALLELUJAH WE HAVE A QB.

He is terrible we are looking at Caleb Williams.

Supposedly a mostly cooked Baker Mayfield is going to have a career resurgence.

That seems to be what what most of the talking heads in the area seem to think.

I hope he does but hoping NEVER works out.

  28. Leopold Stotch Says:

    Trask is killing it rn

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Give it. I really don’t care who win the starting job I knew it wasn’t a real competition anyway the moment they sign him . I’m not apart of you guys college rival in Tampa. And plus I was Baker Mayfield guy when he played in Cleveland because the media hated him at first. But after I saw what he did in Carolina and LA I was done with him. Them first 4 games this year I have no confidence in Baker Mayfield playing good. I hope he does but I just don’t think so. And I remember all the hate Jamies got on this very site and Jamies was a better quarterback and our offense was ranked top 5 every year he was here and that’s playing with no running game or defense and it was all his fault. So I want to hear the same talk about Baker Mayfield. But the best quarterback ain’t going to be the starter week 1 and we all know it. 😂

  30. Rod Munch Says:

    tampabuscsbro Says:

I mean there really is no downside to Trask.

    ——–

Completely agree. If Trask is good – great, you got your QB of the future.

If Trask is bad, then you’re going to get a very top pick in the draft.

Mayfield is going to go 5-12 or 6-11, so the team will be bad, but not bad enough to get a top pick, and we still don’t know what we have in Trask.

This is not a playoff team, they’re not winning a SB, and Bowles is going to get fired – the only way that doesn’t happen is if Trask looks good and shows progress and the team doesn’t want to change anything and mess that up. Even if you sneak into the playoffs at 7-10 in a bad division, he’s still getting fired.

  31. IrishTony Says:

Oh really Trask played great by whose standards? Boy you folks shoot real low I’m a life long fan and have been subjected to crap qb play since 76. We finally got it with Johnson and certainly with Brady but honestly how can anyone make the statement that Trask looked great.

  32. DBS Says:

This is also future UPS and FEDEX drivers to be they are playing. So all the he looks so fantastic right now? Remember how great their backup looked against our future drivers too. It does not mean he would be this way against regular starters.

  33. Voice of Truth Says:

We know who the kicker isn’t

  34. IrishTony Says:

Oh really Trask played great by whose standards? Boy you folks shoot real low I’m a life long fan and have been subjected to crap qb play since 76. We finally got it with Johnson and certainly with Brady but honestly how can anyone make the statement that Trask looked “great.”

  35. Give it a Rest, Trask Bridge Says:

i don’t’ watch college football and couldn’t care less where the QB is from. I just got tired of the Trask Brigade’s …detachment from the realities of this off-season.

The competition was 100% real and a 100% waste of valuable snaps for the starter. They should have given all the snaps to Trask or Mayfield.

  36. T. McGee Says:

Very disappointing. Not how you build a long term winner.

  37. Cleanhouse Says:

Escort Bowles and Armstrong out of the building- give them 5 minutes to pack a box and take their key card.

  38. MadMax Says:

All i know is Trask looked very good tonight. Im ok with Baker starting but if he starts being inaccurate, Trask looks like he could take over….i was impressed.

  39. IrishTony Says:

@ Munch that’s your prediction with Mayfield? This defense is going to be really good so I see a higher win total but I’ve always been an optimist even when we had crap coaches, qbs, and players.

  40. ATLBuc Says:

In his 2 preseason games Trask has outplayed Baker by far. If not for that TD catch by Palmer, Mayfields stats would be pathetic. Like 8 completions for 64 yards.
Trask is 20/28 (with 4 drops) for 218 yards and almost a hundred last week.

  41. tampabuscsbro Says:

    @IrishTony,

We just lost the best QB of all time and have a horrid offensive line.

Also the defense didn’t play great competition last year. I don’t know where you are coming up with that high of a win total.

  42. Mike S Says:

    LOL Rest Bridge

20-28 220 yds 1 TD with a bunch of Fed Ex drivers.

    It was a tremendous performance.

Trask is ready and the Bucs have turned into a clown show.

    A CLOWN SHOW.

  43. HC Grover Says:

    Bowles Blunder again. Start Trask.

  44. All_da_way Says:

The problem with Mayfield is that he isn’t an accurate downfield thrower and his inability to locate the high safety at times makes him a turnover machine at times.

So if Canales has to reign him in on a leash to keep Mayfield’s turnovers down then so be it.

But Trask has shown he is a more accurate passer downfield.

To be honest it doesn’t matter which QB wins if the running game is a no show again.

  45. Call the Salt Truck Says:

Yeah, I have an order to pick up 1000 tons of salt from Trask fans? I was told- oh wait. Here it is. Dang. I might need to make more than one trip.

  46. Bee Says:

The obvious win/win is starting Trask. I think if you give him enough time with the starters, we could have something special.

  47. shak Says:

“It was a really big play for us,” said Godwin. “It was on one of the better corners in the league. [Palmer] is playing with a lot of confidence right now. He’s a fast guy, man. I don’t people notice it or not, but he’s flying out there. Kyle gave him a great ball. I think it was kind of tough on Sauce because they went Cover Zero. It was one-on-one and Trey’s a blazer. It was a great play by the offense, but that’s the kind of plays we’re going to need from him.

  48. Sly Pirate Says:

Regardless, Trask showed he can play in the NFL. Baker may get the start but he better ball out because Trask showed a lot of promise.

  49. PbnJ Says:

    +1 Trask

  50. A Bucs Fan Says:

Trask will get a chance to start, might not be in Tampa, but when he does he’ll be a winner. Kid can play.

I don’t think I’ve been this disappointed with a coaches decision making since Lovie was coaching.

  51. Pewter Power Says:

You’re wrong for that baker photo😂😂

But the trask love reminds me of all those strange Bucs fans who somehow thought mike glennon was a franchise quarterback when sensible saw most of his completions were check downs that went nowhere.

Stop it trask has not yet faced an nfl starting defense. If anything his performance just highlights how he practiced against them already in a joint practice. People act like what they see and hear in limited media time at practice is what the Bucs go by. They know more about these two guys than any of you or media. You haven’t seen enough to know trask is better

  52. Mike S Says:

Pewter he was damn good tonight.

Give credit where it is due.

  53. shak Says:

wow, they said 16 different receivers got a ball tonight?

  54. Bucfan23 Says:

Hey Give It A Rest….why don’t you do just that. You don’t even know what you are talking about. Lol Trask made a few throws tonight, Baker Mayfield doesn’t have the skill to make. Mayfield is going to be Mayfield, and by week 4 or 5, he will be holding the clipboard. Trask CLEARLY…has WAY more upside, than starting that journeyman QB on a 5 or 6 win team, because that’s what it is. And honestly Mr football…. If that line can’t block better for the running game, Mayfield will be gone before then. When they force him out of the pocket, that’s when the characteristic mistakes of Maker Bayfield will rear their ugly head. There is enough evidence out there already, to assure any football guy that Baker Mayfield is not an NFL long-term starting QB.

  55. Don’t tell me it’s raining Says:

Mayfield haters love the numbers if they favor their argument. The numbers:

    Trask this wk (9 series)
    16/23
    122 YDS
    1 TD
    0 INT
    96.7 QB Rating

    Mayfield last wk (4 series)
    8/9
    63 YDS
    1 TD
    0 INT
    132.9

Baker played less than half the series Trask played and his overall numbers reflect that exactly. Points win games and they each one scored one TD, Baker just did it 4 series instead of 9.

  56. ChuckFinley Says:

I don’t know if Trask fans will ever be happy. Dude had the same opportunitys that Baker had and yes I agree with some more practice he could potentially be a decent QB but optimism isn’t necessarily going to win games. From what I seen Baker seemed more relaxed and confident than Trask and at this given time I would give it to Baker as well

  57. Mike S Says:

    Don’t tell me it’s raining

    He was 20-28 for 218 1 TD

  58. tgoodwin Says:

WAHOOO!!!!!!!!YEAH YEA YAY GO BUCS N BAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WIN!!!!!!!!!!!

  59. Oneilbuc Says:

    Chuck
It’s not hate for Baker Mayfield every one knows what he is and we also know he was gifted the starting job he didn’t earned nothing. Next year Baker will be on his 5 team and what’s going to be the excuse for Baker Mayfield next year? Lol 🤣

  60. Don’t tell me it’s raining Says:

Mike you’re correct. That was his numbers at the half after playing 6 series.

  61. Ordinary fan Says:

I have a feeling that this AA coach is gonna name Trash as the starting QB !!!! Quit making excuses on why you didn’t put Baker in !!!!! I watched the post came conference & didn’t buy the coaches excuse !!! Its time for the offense to tell around 1 QB !!! I’m losing faith in this coach !!!!

  62. Pewter Power Says:

He who can reads the stat line 20-28 for 218 1 TD

There’s probably a reason no one is mentioning yards per play he averaged. I think yards per play is kinda important don’t you? Whatever it was it couldn’t have been much.

  63. RV23 Says:

If this is the route we’re going, we’ll be 0-4, 1-3 at best after week 4. Baker is not going to get the job done. This is a shrewd move by a desperate head coach trying not to get fired. Give the ball to the guy who has a future here. If it doesn’t work you’re in a prime position to draft a QB after the season. Trask is the starter no later than week 5.

  64. Pewter Power Says:

Trask came through in the second half for sure but I’m glad he’s not the day one starter

  65. David Says:

    Joe,
I give you credit. You called it from get go that this could be a fake competition set up by Todd B. as most of the Bucs fan smell the rotten fish all over it. This is why we all knew this was a rigged competition by Todd B.
You would think Baker should have played tonight as it was advertised.

This is the most circus show on earth by Bucs. Shame on this management and the owner if they do not allow their draft pick to prosper to next elite qb. Instead allowing Todd B. to pick Baker to save his job. Wishful thinking. Todd B. will go down with Baker. Trask is GM’s pick not Todd B.

  66. Mike S Says:

ChuckFinley we tried not to believe that this org would BS everyone about a QB competition.

    I guess we were wrong.

  67. Don’t tell me it’s raining Says:

The point I’m making is Baker could do the exact same as Trask and the Baker haters will say he is the worst and Trask is great. Trask and Mayfield had almost identical numbers at the end of their 4th series. And Trask = great. But Mayfield = worst ever. Anyone who’s being even slightly objective can see that’s true. Do you know what Trask’s numbers were after his 4th series tonight? 9/13, 54 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT. Baker was “Mr dunk and dink” and had better numbers last week after playing 4 series, than Trask did tonight. I get it. People are going to see what they want to see. That’s cool

  68. Since76 Says:

Well Trask officially won the QB battle. Think what he can do do with his # 1 targets and lineman on the field. But alas……….Mayfield appears to have snatched the job at his signing. I see Trask leaving and having a good career for another team. Too bad he looks really good.

  69. Don’t tell me it’s raining Says:

Yards per game are important but not as important as points per game. TB12 threw for more yards last year in 15 games than the other team but we didn’t win 15 games. That’s because TD’s are more important than total passing yards. Trask had one TD after playing 9 series and Mayfield had one TD after playing 4 series. Mayfield also had better numbers after playing 4 series than Trask had after 4. Trask went 9/13, 54 yards, 0 TD in his first 4 series. I think that’s kind of important as well, don’t you?

  70. Oneilbuc Says:

If I’m Trask I will tell my agent to start calling teams right now because the only thing this team is good at is destroying young quarterbacks careers when they draft them. But at least Baker is still kind of young so if he plays well and the bucs sign him to another contract at least he will still be young enough to where we don’t have to wonder if he’s retiring like the last guy .

  71. Obvious Says:

Sitting Mayfield said it All. There certainly was never an actual competition. “Obviously Not”!

And for those who may or may not like this FACT, I believe it’s ONLY RIGHT to give credit where it’s due. “The Joe’s have been RIGHT ALL ALONG…” They said from the get go that there was no competition. Quoted Bowles multiple times as evidence to what is now known as a FACT… CLEARLY, THEY WERE RIGHT!!!

    Well Done Fellas 👏

And Trask CLEARY has more upside! And if NOTHING ELSE “DR” pointed as to the LOGIC of WHY.. Not sold on Trask being heads and shoulders better than Mayfield but Trask has the upside. We will ALL Find out what Mayfield and Trask, is made of FAR SOONER THAN LATER. I’ve got a Very Bad feeling about this season. I’m going to Go Ahead and say it.
From what WE’VE ALL WITNESSED, the O line CAN’T STOP A CHILD FROM GETTING THROUGH, Across the entire line.. PERIOD

Mayfield HAD BETTER HAVE some Very Good running shoes. AND I MEAN THE BEST! Also, this ACTUALLY plays in Trask’s favor. NO SERIOUSLY. That Oine equals DEATH to Any and ALL that stands behind the wet toilet paper that is the current O line they keep marching out there.

I could be wrong but I believe Wirfs was the only starter held out. AND THAT’S ANOTHER MISTAKE! He NEEDS All the practice he can get to try to NOT ONLY perfect his new position ( because he is CERTAINLY NOT lights out) but to GELL with the rest of the O line! BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE by Bowles AND Canales! HUGE MISTAKE and Arrogant.

Now KEEP IN MIND that, that’s IF, (IF), “IF” they are Actually TRYING to Win and NOT TANK! I’m Actually starting to BELIEVE the Tanking scenario. Doesn’t make sense otherwise…

  72. David Says:

    KYLE TRASK SHOW TONIGHT.

Todd B. plan back fired. He started Baker at home in an easier game while throwing Trask on the road in the field that Bucs has never won. Jet’s had ne been scored on in 16 qtrs. until Trask showed up.

Todd B. had his press conference already set up on Sunday to announce his qb1, baker before the game while continuing with circus show as we are bunch of dumb fans.
Now Todd B. has big mess in his hand. He goes 0-4 or 1-3 with Baker forced to switch to Trask. Todd B. will go down in toilet by then.
Todd B. probably wants to break the news personally to Trask before disclosing it to the fans. Trask should have been 26 out of 28 not for stupid drops by his 2ed team receivers. Just imagine what Trask can do with real OL and receivers.

    1. So let’s see Baker throw many picks in the camp. Outplayed it didn’t matter . Fake competition.
    2. Trask throw an insignificant pick on 3rd and 19. It does not matter. Fake competition.
    3. Trask shines against one of the best defenses in the league. It does not matter . Fake competition.
    4. 3rd qb is inured just throw Trask instead of Baker as promised in there to protect Baker. Fake competition.

Trask wouldn’t sign with Bucs. No one will blame him then. A young rookie who played as a veteran with Aaron R. few feet from him in a big stage in big apple.

He outplayed Baker in training camp. He out played him in the second pre-season game. If he is not the starter then shame on Todd B.

  73. Matlok727 Says:

I feel like Trask push’s the ball well he may not look like a superstar but he has no experience . I always start Trask in madden lol. Licht will use a 2nd rounder for a golf cart if he could .

  74. Bucfan94 Says:

They lied about playing Trask and Mayfield equally and never let Trask play with Evans or Godwin in preseason after outperforming in practice. Trask was lied too. I’d have no problem with Mayfield winning if it was a fair shot but we were lied too

  75. Duane Says:

The Bucs didnt pay Baker $2million to be the starter for this team. He is paid to show up early and help Canales work the kinks out of the offense. You cant start the season with an inexperienced qb and Coordinator. We got 2 guys. We dont have a franchise qb. Both of these guys will have the chance to overwhelm or underwhelm. Its better to go second because it will be harder for Bowles to go back to Baker after benching him. Oline play, a running game, and a pass rush will have a bigger impact on success this season than the signal caller.

Oneillbuc, it’s hard to accept, I know, but Trask lost the competition midway through camp. He had a good stretch and came back after a poor showing in OTAs but then plateaued and hasn’t developed far enough to start.”

please as you suggested to the fans, give it a rest dude. Back up your fiction with facts.

  77. Frederick Warren Says:

Blah blah. You all love Trask because he played for UF. Nothing more!

  78. Steelers fan Says:

Trask could of had atleast 2 more TD’s but the coaching called runs.

  79. Steelers fan Says:

Man Trask looked great. I mean he fought through everything going aginst him (no run game) bad play calling. Put him in multi 3rd and longs. alot of drops again tonight.

The guy is not gonna quit untill hes on top even if the coaches give Baker something he clearly hasnt earned.

Trask has out practiced and played him in games.

  80. JD Still Says:

In spite of the Mayfield sycophants, the clueless prognosticators , the media sheep all parroting the same line and the powers that be plotting a fake qb competition ,karma intervened and Kyle got us the win, We’ll just have to wait and see what lame excuses they use to start Mayfield but that can only last so long, sooner or later the “ who you gonna believe, us or your lying eyes “ line , isn’t going to work anymore no matter how often they use it!

  82. D Cone Says:

Kyle didn’t look like Kenny Picket who was 7-6 last year with Pittsburgh wi/
    7 TD’s and 9 INT’s.
Kyle looked better than the #1 and #2 picks. I understand that Trask has a lot more real game experience with his 9 passes against ATL in week 17 of 2022
Baker may have won the completion ( wink) but Trask did nothing to lose it.

Possible winner from last night’s game. Jason Licht. Sorry tank for Maye fans. Bucs GM might just may have an extra 30+ million to spend on matching any offers Evans might get for 2024 and keeping other Stars by not gambling on a First Round Pick.

  83. D Cone Says:

Give it a Rest, Trask Bridge Says
Mayfield BEAT Trask in the competition

Someone on here went to practices 6 times and witnessed how Baker blew the completion in Carolina away last year. Didn’t transfer to the regular season. That is a fact.

In 72 games Mayfield is 33-39. Take away the good year he went 12-6 and he’s at 21-36. Might impress you.

Cleveland has shown it is terrible with its QB’s draft high but have been spot on when they walked away from them. None I can think of have went on to burn up the league.

Perhaps Baker is the exception because you say so.

  84. All_da_way Says:

Pre season game 1 went to Mayfield and Pre season game 2 went to Trask.

The gap between the two is non existent as far as I am concerned.

I have no clue if it is a Florida State thing and Florida thing.

But back in the last days of Jameis Winston, there were a lot of fans claiming that Arians lied.

Now we are in the 1st days of Kyle Trask. We are getting a bunch of fans claiming that Bowles lied.

It’s odd that fans do not want to give credit to what the coaches see when they are actually evaluating guys.

  86. Buccobruce Says:

I agree with Bowles holding Mayfield out. We already know what he can do, 9 of 14 for 67 yards an interception and 2 tipped passes at the line. The truth is he held him out so he wouldnt do that and he could just name him starter. He threw Trask back out there behind that line figuring he wouldnt look good. So Trask goes out and goes 4 for 5 for about 90 yards. Thanks Kyle for putting egg. all over TB’s face.

  87. Oneilbuc Says:

Well we’re stuck with Baker Mayfield he didn’t earn it but I hope we win to many games so can’t draft another quarterback. The bucs need to go o line in the first round next year. Ain’t no sense in drafting a quarterback that’s going to get killed behind this offensive line. And plus I don’t believe the bucs can develop a quarterback anyway. Look how Kyle Trask is being treated for a guy who the coaching staff ignored the past 2 years and he still was able to play well when he got his chance. You look at last year preseason games against the dolphins and the colts he was good in those games. But Joe will never admit it Kyle Trask needs to ask for a trade!!

  88. Kidfloflo Says:

Baker has thrown over a hundred touch downs in his NFL career, Trask has thrown one, in preseason. Baker starts until he doesn’t. Not hard to grasp, or fathom.

  89. Kidfloflo Says:

ALT buc u know Trask has played 5 quarters this presason to Bakers one! So um yeah his stats and yards will be more. That’s a lazy, asinine take
