Another Mike Evans Snub

July 19th, 2023

Mike Evans

This is becoming a disturbing pattern.

Last week, Joe shared how four Pro Football Hall of Fame selectors banded together in what turned out to be a backhanded hit piece on Mike Evans. The33rdTeam.com piece ranked potential Hall of Fame players among those currently on rosters and Evans was not included, not even in the “possible” category.

Now comes the results of the annual Jeremy Fowler survey of about 80 NFL team executives, scouts, coaches and players. The ESPN.com longtime writer simply asks these folks to name their top-10 players at each position, and then he tallies up the votes for his published rankings.

Fowler also takes comments anonymously from voters and shares a few.

This year, Evans did not rank in the top-10 and earned an honorable mention. Chris Godwin fell in the got-some-top-10-votes category. One voter suggested Evans remains great but clearly is on the back-9 of his career.

Joe absolutely thinks Evans is a top-10 receiver, especially considering his durability and consistency. There’s no way Joe could craft a thoughtful list and find 10 wide receivers to choose ahead of Evans. Ridiculous.

Haters gonna Hate! Mike just proves it on the field all day ever day!

  2. Buc4evr Says:

ME is this generation’s Ronde Barber. Eventually his numbers will speak for themselves. Don’t care what the media says or who they pander to for “clicks” or views.

  3. DFW Buc Says:

When Mike was at Texas A&M Manziel got all the press. All these yours later Mike just keeps putting up very good numbers and they say “Manziel who?” It’s sad that Mike does not get credit where credit is due except in Tampa Bay. Talking heads are clueless for the most part and at least Mike has a ring that most of those other commenters can only dream about.

  4. Boss Says:

He maybe Ronde is his consistency and durability, but Ronde stood apart from MRE in that he was a rockstar (IMO) who did it with limited abilities. He had a head for the game and nose for the ball.

ME has all the skills, but is still one of three plays……straight line, jump ball or 10 yrd slant route.

I say that with all due respet. I don’t think we have had a more consistent WR from a yards per season standpoint….but you know what they say about stats.

would live to have seen ME learn some Keshawn Johnson type of skills.

  5. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Haha yeah Keyshawn was the og slant boy he was worse the Mike with yac

  6. SlyPirate Says:

    MIKE EVAN REALITY
There are better WR each year
There isn’t a better WR every year

    One-year of greatness is exciting
Consistency over a decade is boring

One-year will get you on ESPN
Consistency will get you in the HOF

  7. First Name Greatest Says:

    Stats says otherwise

Last time Mike was a top 10 WR was in 2018 when he finished 3rd in the league in yards.

Joe likes to say it’s a results business but neglects to use this logic towards Evans. He’s consistently good, but rarely great. That’s what the numbers say.

    He’s finished

    19th
    11th
    4th
    15th
    3rd
    13th
    18th
    23rd
    13th

In yards in his career in that same time span he has as many Top 10 receiving yard seasons as guys like Jarvis Landry, Adam Thielen, TY Hilton and Keenan Allen. He’s in that category versus the top 10 based on production. Love Mike but the numbers do not lie.

  8. ATLBuc Says:

More bulletin board material for our guys. The media is writing a huge check that our opponents will have to cash. They will have insufficient “funds”!!

  9. Lakeland Steve Says:

Let the media keep picking on the Bucs and Bucs players. We have not played real well at times when we are the favorites but when we are the underdogs we seem to play very well most of the time. Hopefully all of the negativity fires these guys up and they come out swinging.

  10. Rand Says:

This is the product of having no clear franchise QB, except Brady’s short stint, since forever, Dilfer maybe. He had at least 2 winning seasons out of 5.

  11. Colonel Angus Says:

Most receiving yards over last decade (2013-2022 seasons):
    Julio Jones…………..11,472yds- 770rec- 45tds
    Deandre Hopkins…11,298yds- 853rec- 71tds
    Mike Evans………….10,425yds- 683rec- 81tds

  12. Colonel Angus Says:

Only Davante Adams has more tuddies (87) than Mike (81). And Adams had Rodgers throwing him the ball for the vast majority of his career.

  13. Duane Says:

He still has years to go on his career. Its just speculation. The franchise didnt do him any favors with the stiffs they ran out at qb in his time. How many seasons did he play with a successful running game? How many times has he been used as a decoy? This guy is an elite 50/50 ball receiver, and at his size and speed, he has just a good of a chance of drawing the flag. At the end of most seasons, for one game, he gets force fed the ball to get his 1000 yards, and many of us are left wondering what would happen if we took this approach earlier. We need, he is available, and ready to go.

  14. Marine Buc Says:

I wonder when the Bucs will announce a new deal for Mike Evans…

We only have @ $1.4M under the cap currently. We still have not signed our 2nd round pick and we need to add one more free agent RB. Licht also likes to have a few million in order to make emergency purchases during the season.

I really don’t see D. White being traded and I don’t believe Shaq Barrett’s contract will be modified. That leaves one contract left to work in order to gain the $8-$10M our GM needs.

    Go Bucs!

  15. Dooley Says:

There’s a whole lot of mental gymnastics to try and explain Mike Evans’ greatness away, but the fact remains since his rookie season he’s been a top 10-15 target. Doesn’t need to be explained how much those WR lists fluctuate from year to year and there’s Evans always lingering amongst the top pass catchers in the NFL.

Mikes’ probably got 2-3 more seasons in him after this season, and all he has to do is keep being who he’s been since we drafted him. That HOF resume gets fatter with every productive day he has on the football field and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

You think top WRs from when Mike Entered the league, the

  16. Fansince76 Says:

The list means nothing and is F-ing ridiculous if Evans is not on it!

Evans is hands down easily one of the best 10 receivers in the league!

What a farking joke of a list!

  17. Crickett Baker Says:

I am beginning to wonder if the Buc fan base clicks on stuff more than most others. We seem to get baited a LOT.

  18. Boss Says:

HOF WR’s do not dissapear during games.

  19. Jeff Says:

Behind the numbers you’ll see that Mike’s Production is mostly garbage time stats except for 2020 and 2021. JW threw a lot of passes to Mike with the Bucs trailing big in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Big numbers against prevent defenses.

  20. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

  22. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

One of these years, Bucs fans will figure out that the NFL, its teams, and most casual fans just hate the Bucs.

    That List means nothing…..

Mike will be in Canton wearing a Gold Jacket giving his HOF speech when it is all
    said and done.

    Nuff said!!!!!

    Mic Drop!!

  31. DJB Says:

Oops, I meant JBF commenter TOMMY MORDUE, but meant in jest lol

  32. garro Says:

National media are alot like piranhas.

But we seem to find ourselves in their sites more than many other teams.
But to disrespect guys like Mike and LVD, and Vea is criminal. I have a very interesting theory about the media pounding on the Bucs but it would stir up some major BS.

Thus I will keep it to myself.

    Go Bucs!
