Sappy Story Of The Day

May 13th, 2023

Bucs rookie TE Payne Durham.

Joe is not into touchy-feely stories. Unless it involves a late-night dalliance with Rachel Watson.

But Bucs rookie tight end Payne Durham had a cool story to tell of his journey to One Buc Palace. It wasn’t planned or expected.

Durham was a high school lacrosse player growing up north of Atlanta in Suwanee. No, he didn’t play high school football.

Before his senior year, he was shooting hoops with one of his high school’s football coaches. The coach offered a bet: if he made a basket, Durham had to come out for the football team.

The coach made the bucket. And Durham kept his end of the bargain, finding himself on a high school football practice field. Durham also learned he really liked playing football.

Fast-forward five years and Durham was walking through the halls of One Buc Palace, not as a visitor but as a Bucs player. He remembered how just a few years prior football wasn’t even a dream. The moment so moved Durham, he called the coach to thank him for getting him to play football.

“It hit me yesterday when I walked in,” Durham said yesterday. “I was like, ‘Man this is kind of cool.’ Yeah, it definitely hit me, I called my high school coach … and just thanked him again. I do that like once a week.

“But yeah it’s an awesome experience and I hope it’s nowhere near over yet.”

Joe thought that was cool how Durham didn’t forget his journey to One Buc Palace and the cusp of the NFL.

All by a chance basketball shot.

Who said wagering doesn’t pay?

One silver lining with the Bucs this year is that lots of young players will make this team……it is possible that all 9 draft picks make it along with at least a couple of UDFAs…..
Hopefully, they will develop and contribute.

Love it Joe! I thought for sure you had a crazy Warren Sapp story though.
    LOL
There was another guy that played lacrosse that is in the NFL HOF….

  3. SB~LV Says:

Indeed a cool story and example of how whimsical and fickle life paths can be.

  4. Buc4evr Says:

Cool story Bro. It will likely be over in training camp. Enjoy the ride.

  5. Irishmist Says:

I can feel my heart swelling as I read this. No, never mind, just morning wood.

  6. Goatfarmer Says:

Wait until Durham gets a full load of the Bloweszo Effect. Would love to hear that phone call to his coach.

  7. Bojim Says:

    Just enjoy the story guys.

  8. rrsrq Says:

The coach is probably like cool story, the “thanks” is cool, but check please…

Goat every story on JBF doesn’t need your once a day bloweszo comment
    It’s actually really old..

  10. HA-HA-HA Says:

Hey Goat, when will the team get a defensive coordinator?
    HC is a big job.

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

Big Fella, I’m glad it’s getting old for you. Bloweszo sucks.

Bloweszo shouldn’t be the headcoich but is due to circumstances beyond Jason Licht’s control. You can bet that once the Toadster has mathematically assured his 5th consecutive losing season as headcoich, Licht will show him his new gerbil farm and begin the real head coach search. That will be invigorating. Everything until then is moot.

    Bravo 👏

Why Bojim they can rain on the parade all day every day week on week month on month, just to make their “shortcomings” feel better in their mind’s eye.. It is A JBF staple.

Buc4evr {“using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means”} Why do you think Durham will not last past Training Camp?

Joe Suwanee Is NE of ATL Below the dam of Lake Lanier, the former home of the Dirty Birds before they flew the coop 15 minutes NE up 985 to Flowery Branch…

I am excited to see Durham Otton Kieft On the Field. I was watching a Jeremy Banks Highlight video, it was against Perdue, Got to see a lot of Durham, in that highlights video. Banks had to cover Durham several times and got blocked by Durham. Good video of them both. I am also liking the 40 FB on this video, Gave me some chills watching that 40 run-and-carry tacklers like his fellow Perdue 40 FB Allstott.

    Go!!!!! Bucs!!!!!

Thanks JoeBucsFan for all you lucky crew get to do and share with us. Even in Moderation..

Why Bojim when they can rain on the parade all day every day week on week month on month, just to make their “shortcomings: a fault or failure to meet a certain standard.” feel better in their mind’s eye… It is a JBF/blogs in general response staple. Why is there no almost positive Buc fans vibe on almost any new, change, coach, player, or scheme, ever harped on, I do ask myself daily. Why is there never any positivity toward our 23 Buccaneers team? I want them to WIN the NFC South, CONVINCINGLY WIN it.

Buc4evr {“using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means”} 4evr. Why do you think Durham will not last past Training Camp?

Unfortunately the same few guys can’t take a cool story and just let it be..Goathumper I would love to run into you someday..You need some positivity in your life..Are you all alone with your goats and you are bored? Do you not have a wife? Or girlfriend? If you dedicated all the time you spend crying about Todd to your family you might find happiness..But true story you really suck as a person! It’s a free country and you can have your opinions, but give it a rest once in a while..

  18. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    Nice

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

    Perdue? love them chickens lol

  20. Crickett Baker Says:

I am disappointed in this story. It is just a recap of Durham’s interview on the Buc’s website.

  21. stpetebucfan Says:

I sometimes wonder if Rachel Watson has ever contacted the Joe’s to thank them for all the free publicity.

OR…if she’s afraid since the Joe’s are stars they’ll feel free to go all Donald Trump on her. LMAO

  22. Mike C Says:

Big fella, give goat a break, no one is walking on his lawn so he has to have something to B!tch and cry about. What else do old guys have to do, since the blue pill is probably to much for his heart anymore….. poor fella.

  23. admin Says:

I sometimes wonder if Rachel Watson has ever contacted the Joe’s to thank them for all the free publicity.

Joe’s met her before. Not sure how “publicity” would help her. She’s a teacher and a mom now.

  24. Josh Rice Says:

Buc4evr I guarantee he is on the active roster this season.

  25. #99 the Big fella Says:

Mike C , you are probably 💯 percent correct!
Goat actually thinks big fella means fat.
I am 6ft5 .. Goat humper probably is just above 5 ft
And has little man syndrome..keep crying you make yourself look more and more like a cranky old man

Athletes are Athletes. Can you imagine a young lebron playing TE? This is the wave of the future. Guys that didn’t play much football changing spots. This game is all about speed and athleticism

  27. MadMax Says:
