YaYa Diaby Admits He’s A Zero

May 13th, 2023

Proud to be a zero.

So yesterday Joe posted a video on Twitter of the beginning of underwear football season. The first day of rookie minicamp.

Almost immediately Joe got a response.

“Do I see a 0?”

It was not an optical illusion. A Bucs rookie was actually wearing the number 0. First time in Bucs history.

So who is this crusader? That would be Bucs’ third-round draft pick outside linebacker YaYa Diaby. (Is someone going to hook this kid up with a marketing deal with YaYa’s Flame Broiled Chicken?)

So before practice yesterday to kick off Bucs rookie minicamp 2023, Diaby was asked why he chose zero? Simple, he said, it was there for the picking.

“They said it was available,” Diaby said. “They said it was available. They said no other guy wanted it.

“I couldn’t get No. 6 because of Baker [Mayfield] and he deserves it. So, zero, that’s me.”

So Diaby confessed, he’s a zero!

In all seriousness, given the way the Bucs are hurting terribly for an edge rush, if Diaby can prove to be a force from the edge on passing downs, with him wearing such a unique number, Joe has a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of zeros at The Licht House on gamedays.

Is that his prediction for the total number of wins?

  2. SteveK Says:

Excited for Coach Bowles and Jason crafting a new era of Bucs Defense! I hope we flatten teams this fall and smack them in the mouth w a strong running game and a physical, explosive, fast defense. Man, I’m pumped to see the D. Big Vita and Kancey are going to be like peas and carrots.

  3. Fansince76 Says:

Lets all pray that he’s a beast pass rusher!

  4. SteveK Says:

    Vita and Kancey

    Fat Man and Blobbin

Excited for them to mess up so, so many plays.

  5. PewterStiffArm Says:

I heard recently Coach Prime speaking about this very subject. He said he wouldn’t let any of his kids wear the number zero. He said it has no value or substance. He couldn’t figure out how other coaches would allow it. Having no value signifies the absence of true spoken accomplishments. I’m shocked YaYa would consider a non descriptive number. If he keeps it I hope he destroys offensive linemen and quarterbacks. He would be the first NFL player to hang his hat on a number with huge question marks.⁵

  6. BA’s Red Pen Says:

He’s already made more plays than Jill Tryon.

  7. Allen Lofton Says:

Hope Zero isn’t his number of sacks.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

How is it folks are excited about Vita next to Kancey? I thought Vita only plays like 30% of the time….

How do you get excited about that?

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

The good news is, his number reflects the anticipated contributions of his headcoich.

  10. stpetebucfan Says:

Zero represents the number of his missed tackles.

Zero represents the number of missed sack opportunities.

Zero represents how much he gives a rat’s arse about what other people think.

Zero represents thinking outside the box.

And Yes Zero is not a positive number, nor is it a negative number. It stands alone!!! Let’s hope YaYa stands alone at his position and makes pro bowls.

  11. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

What a bunch of wasted responses.

  12. Bojim Says:

Give him 100 if he gets some sacks

  13. Letsbucinggo Says:

Hope its not another wasted pick on a pass rusher Licht history in the draft has not been very good in this position to say the least.

  14. Redeemer Says:

I hate the new uniform number rules. Brady bitched about it ad nauseam. Think it was league imposed.

  15. Mike C Says:

    Good connection goat…..

  16. Cobraboy Says:

    Zero represents the head coach.

  17. Buccos Says:

It sounds like a case of low self esteem

  18. D-Rok Says:

I liked his presser. He’s a well-spoken young man. I hope he’s also a great player for the Bucs!

  19. Redeemer Says:

    Brother D-Rok, agreed.

  20. Demete Says:

Hate to break this to you Joe, but Ya Ya’s hasn’t been a thing since the Rachel Watson days.

  21. MadMax Says:

I love this kid….man yall some brutal beasts….but i guess we’ll see what happens…Im pulling for the kid to ef ish up!

  22. ATLBucsFan Says:

Can’t wait for the opponents offensive lineman to answer the question, “What did you see on that play?” “I saw nothing. He was gone before I got out of my stance.”

  23. BucaneroJim Says:

We take it granted today, but historically the concept of 0 scared the mathematical world of most cultures for thousands of years – until modern times. One might consider 0 the be the most powerful number there is, because it is a non-number. All other numbers have to bow to it. No number can touch it, but have to deal with it. Good choice Ya Ya!

  24. Destinjohnny Says:

After 10 drafts by licht the pass rushers we drafted are?

  25. Fred McNeil Says:

Apparently Vita Via at 6.5 last year.

  26. Sly Pirate Says:

Never understood the infatuation with a number. I played a lot of sports. When it came to picking numbers, my answer was always the one on the jersey that fits.

  27. Destinjohnny Says:

10 drafts and one guy who was a high pick and a defensive tackle?

  28. firethecannons Says:

awesome , pulling for him, kind of done with JTS, hope he has a great rookie season

  29. firethecannons Says:

He seems like a young JPP

  30. garro Says:

    I think 0 is idiotic.
I’m all for anyone wanting to express their individuality and its common for young people to do that. But come on man! You are a rookie third round pick in the NFL. Go express yourself with outstanding play… with a FOOTBALL number.

  31. BucaneroJim Says:

Hey!… 0 is what defensive players are supposed to do – negate the offense. 0 yards gained, 0 passes completed, 0 holes for the run, 0 points scored, etc. Ya Ya can stuff a play, point to his number and say “You got nothing”… no other number can do that. BTW… all other numbers (besides 0) are just a multiplier version of 1 – only 1 and 0 are unique… keep that in mind Rachaad!
