Devin White On Fire

September 18th, 2022

Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White.

Once again, Devin White today went wilding on the slimy Saints.

White is playing like it’s the postseason — or he had The Sickness again. Back in the 2020 playoffs, White, after missing the playoff game against Washington because he tested positive with The Sickness, played like a man possessed.

Joe is convinced that is a huge reason why the Bucs beat the slimy Saints in the playoffs and later captured the Super Bowl.

Well, the Bucs are now 2-0 with both wins coming on the road. The defense is playing lights out, only allowing 13 points this season. White has been playing out of his mind. Coincidence? Joe doesn’t believe in coincidences.

White led the Bucs with 11 tackles today. He also had a sack, a tackle for loss (five yards), a quarterback hit, a pass defensed and a forced fumble.

Folks, that’s a full day.

Last week in the season-opener at Dallas, White also led the Bucs with eight tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and a pass defended.

It’s pretty clear to Joe that when White balls out, the defense as a whole is kicking arse and taking names.

If White continues this sick play, this Bucs defense will be special.

The punter, it’s the punter making teams have to drive a long field, the punter, oh yeah and the kicker is on fire too

  2. Irishmist Says:

Any word yet on Hicks’ foot? If he is going to be up for any length of time we may have to bring Suh back.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

Amazing what happens when you’re not just playing zone. Last year, due to injuries with all the defensive backs, the Bucs had little choice but to play zone, and White is not a good player when he’s backpedalling and just playing in space on each play. BUT, have him running forward on every play, either stuffing the run or rushing the QB, and he’s literally one of the best LBs in the NFL. That’s what he did in 2020, and what he’s doing again this year. If they just keep it up, and don’t go soft, he’ll have a huge year.

Hicks missing time again, I’m effin shocked!

Listening to the post game interviews.. Jenna laine is a royal pain inthe butt. She’s so annoying, i wish she would just asked the question instead of rambling on for 19 minutes. It’s like she has to qualify her self knowing football with every question, she’s so irritating.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Perhaps we should dub him “Savior” Devin White…..

    Or…how ’bout “America’s Linebacker”

  7. Craig Says:

White still needs to learn how to tackle running backs. Ingram bowled him over a couple of times.

He is fast and strong, so he just needs some technique.

  8. Austin Lewis Says:

Best defense in the league, by a mile. Might be an all timer. Called it before the season. Had a huge feeling. Looooots of picks

  9. unbelievable Says:

“We know Jameis, we knew he’d give us the ball”

    LOL

Our new punter is a weapon.

    SUHHHHHHHHHHH

    LICHT, MAKE THE PHONECALL!

  13. Brandon Says:

He’s disappearing against the run, taking bad angles, not diagnosing and reacting quickly, missing tackles. Against the pass, he’s other wordly. His pass rush and coverage have been outstanding.

  14. Daryl Green Says:

Can he dissect a run play?

  15. ModHairKen Says:

Prime of his career. Expect even more.

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He still has to work on his tackling because he let Ingram get away several times, by breaking his tackles.
But against the pass, as a rusher, he was great!

  17. firethecannons Says:

lets sign suh now before it is too late

    AGREE COMPLETELY

  19. geno711 Says:

Despite his legendary status, Mike Singletary did not make every tackle, or always take a perfect angle. It is an imperfect sport.

White is not always going to take the right angle or never get beaten or bullied on a play. That just won’t happen.

He has been elite these first 2 games. That is good enough for me.

  20. J Ghotier Says:

How Nwosu (if that was his main challenger) got NFC DPOTW last week above Devin shouldn’t have been either

  21. George Says:

Devin should get DPOTW this week.

  22. gotbbucs Says:

He still needs to learn to break down in the hole and make a form tackle without always going high and trying for a kill shot. Good running backs are going to shrug off those shoulder tackles every time.
I realize he isn’t going to finish every tackle solo, but when it’s your gap that can’t happen.
He has figured out how to keep his blitzes under control and not fly past the play.
He’s putting All Pro film out there, hope he keeps rolling.

  23. rrsrq Says:

DPOTW – he will compete against Jamal Dean

  24. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    F’ING GET EM DEVIN!!!!
You called your shots before this year.
And you are playing like it.
    GO GET EM #45.

  25. Listnfrmafar Says:

Will someone please let Winfield teach White how to tackle? The man is a monster but has the worst tackling technique of any LB I’ve ever seen. If he learned to hit with his shoulders he would be a bigger monster than he is.

  26. stpetebucfan Says:

Well you know how weird it is when you agree with List. LMAO

But I saw at least two stops in the backfield that would have been made by White if he had simply wrapped up.

Devin is great. He has the chance to be the NFL defensive player of the year once he starts COMPLETING his tackles.

  27. Listnfrmafar Says:

stpete@ I am no White but I played linebacker in college and all I know is if I tackled like that there would have been a LOT of cleat marks on the front of my jersey.

  28. LakelandSteve Says:

White played well, but it was really great to see Jameis play like Jameis again.

  29. donuts Says:

White played well the last 3Q. The first Q there were 2-3 arm tackles that just are not good enough at the NFL level. Hicks had a few bad plays too. Whoever thought he was better than Suh needs to watch the tape. Great game. GoBucs.

  30. Crickett Baker Says:

Boy, I sure agree about Jabbering Jenna! She likes her own opinions more than those of the people she is interviewing! I thought Camarda and Succop were terrific. The team gave Bowles the game ball after the game! That was VERY heartening.

  31. J Ghotier Says:

    @Crickett Baker

Are you really just now catching on to why Jenna isn’t so swell at her job (probably a nice person, but I don’t know…I do know how she is at her job though)?! Dude, that’s been for years and a mass opinion (and that ain’t the only reason either, albeit you point out a good one…

Dude, she’s one of the least liked by most and works for BSPN. What else needs to hit you in the face to just realize it now 🤯 she’s the worst and no Media member will or wants to address it for whatever bullsp!t or selfish reason

The real fans can’t stand her and it’s been for years now mon-frére!

  32. 97 bucBaby Says:

On fire my butt this dude misses to many tackle his wrap up game is weak frfr he has to clean that up

  33. Eckwood Says:

White had blitz opportunities the last quarter and a half and made some plays but we just need to be real here ,he didn’t make one real good play up until then . He also came clean on Winston once and didnt get within 3 yards of him ( he looks so tight and one directional it’s embarassing) and even tackled high ( again and again and again)and missed him again ……… he can’t get off blocks and continues to guess out of his gap terribly ……….. this guy can play so much better , if he actually plays well this Def he will have 12 to 15 tackles , his opportunity’s are unreal and he just isn’t the great athlete that people keep anointing to be . Overall the D played Great especially Barrett and the D Backs especially the safeties .

  34. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I’ll need to rewatch the game but early on when the saints gashed us on some runs it looked like white was overrunning plays and vacating his gap. Maybe he was too jacked. Absolutely love watching him blow up quarterbacks though

  35. Oneilbuc Says:

Devin White talk to much and his trash talking do add up to his play on the field. Without those 2 sacks he didn’t do nothing all game and like White I still believe he can be a good linebacker but he needs to just shut up and play ball. Because as of right now he was not worth a top 5 pick .

  36. Oneilbuc Says:

His trash talking don’t add up to his play on the field.

  37. MadMax Says:

    DW45!!!!

  38. David Says:

I can’t believe they only gave White 1 sack. He should at least have 1.5 but really 2.

He also should have an INT in both games. I think both times he’s scanning the field thinking he has a pick 6 instead of making sure he catches it first.
But I’m nitpicking, he’s been playing fantastic.

For those talking about how he sometimes gets pushed back on a tackle… He’s a small speedy linebacker. If he doesn’t have the leverage or the angle that’ll happen sometimes. It’s fine, I’ll take speed over a big linebacker that can’t move any day, but especially in today’s NFL

ESPN knows-it… She’s rarely, ever on there anymore, & when she is it is very short & sweet (you can really tell). Plus, she’s never ‘in’ studio anymore, when they’ve had several of those other women in there all off-season them training camps… While, a few others have “graduated” to being inside studio on a regular, if not ‘full-time’ basis. I used to like her too, in the beginning… I mean, she seems nice, Idk!?

  40. Listnfrmafar Says:

Good coaching fixes White’s issues!!! Winfield is the poster boy for great tackles. I don’t believe there is any player that consistently tackles with perfect technique like him. Fun to watch!!!

  41. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    Listnfrmafar,
Fair enough man. You playing LB in college makes you a hell of a lot more of an expert than I am. But I DO believe Devin White has the capability of DOMINATING this league, if he can just tap in to all of the talents that he has.

    _____________

That’s cool as hell, man. I did not see that.

  43. Anonymous Says:

I literally LMBAO at List claiming he played linebacker in college and is thus qualified to critique Devin White. If he even dreams of comparing himself to DWhite he needs to wake up and apologize

  44. '79 Defense Says:

Hahaha, Devin really took it to Jameis in that interview. Always entertaining hearing him talk.
