Savoring The Greatest Run In Buccaneers History

September 18th, 2022

“Hey Glazer, you’ve never seen anything like this.”

Our mighty and beloved Bucs have won 24 of their last 29 games.

Joe is absolutely in awe and every other Bucs fan should be, too. Never before have Tampa Bay fans experienced this kind of greatness.

In 2020, the Bucs rattled off four consecutive wins to close the regular season before winning four postseason games that included the Super Bowl. In 2021, they had a 14-5 record that included a playoff win. Now they’ve started the Todd Bowles era with two huge road victories.

Again, that’s 24-5 and the best run in franchise history.

It’s a massive credit to general manager Jason Licht, whose fingerprints are all over what looks like the greatest Bucs defense since Tampa Bay’s glory-years crew of the late 1990s and early 2000’s.

Licht rolled with a super-young secondary in 2019, and the fruits of that commitment have paid off. And letting Super Bowl safety Jordan Whitehead walk this winter and adding versatile Logan Ryan have turned the unit into the very best in football through two games.

Licht also drafted Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White and has churned players on the Bucs’ defensive front while still keeping it effective.

Hell, even the special teams look better and better with rookie punter Jake Camarda looking like a fantastic draft pick, and the coverage teams, through two games, have been tighter than they’ve been in a long time.

Regardless, Joe is not here now to dissect the team, only to savor what’s happening. It’s nice to appreciate special times before they’re gone.

I was laughing at someone in the game thread today who said “Licht is a loser”.

He’s done pretty well since Ariana came over. Especially with the o-line it seems. Hats off again to Brandon coming in at LT today.

Hopefully Julio or Godwin can go next week vs the Packers since we’re all expecting Evans to be suspended.

  2. unbelievable Says:

And I agree Joe, let’s savor this while we can!

  3. Casual Observer Says:

Starting this season with two road wins is not too shabby. Take a bow, Bucs.

  4. NCBucfan Says:

Licht deserves this. This secondary he has put together is special! Davis, Dean, SMB, Winfield, ball hawking Edwards, and now bringing in Ryan and Neal! Gold star Mr Licht

HAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! SOMEONE PLANTED THE VOODOO DOLL!!!!! IT WORKED!!!!!!!!

Jameis Winston now officially has thrown a pick-6 against every NFC south team. Amazing.

You all were bashing the punter
    He is getting better

  8. Miller5252 Says:

Being a Bucs fan for all those years after the 1st Super Bowl victory you always wondered if the Bucs would have another run at multiple winning seasons. All of the crappy signings and coaches just added to the doubt of the Bucs not being the joke of the NFL. With Arians, his staff and Brady it all changed into something that no Bucs fan could even imagine. After watching them the first 2 weeks, fan have to be even more excited because it’s the D carrying this team and not Brady. This D could make being a Bucs fan great for years to come!

@joe what’s the preliminary word on Hicks? Didn’t look good in real time

  10. HC Grover Says:

    1 word….Brady

  11. Youngbucs Says:

And oneilaints been complaining the whole time. It blows my mind 😂.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

If you do a serious search of the Bucs’ history, you will see that their greatest teams always featured legendary defenses: 1979, 2001-2 (SB), 2020 (SB win in their home stadium). This one is maturing. No telling how far it will go. 🙂

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Camarda…….allowed just 1 return on 6 punts for minus 6 yards…..

    The guy gets hang time….

I heard an announcer say…..”He’s got room to run….if the ball ever comes down”

  14. CrackWise Says:

Anyone else seeing how AWESOME of a move NOT signing Cappa was???

Gezz I feel sorry for Joe Borrow

LMAO. The discipline Todd. Your defense’s discipline and ability to get off the field. Sad and sickening. The coaching looks once again second rate

I honestly think the Bucs coaching staff is HORRIFIC

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I read somewhere that our punter has something like 4.4 speed, and is also one hell of an athlete.
I can see him burning some team on a fake punt one day!
Todd Bowles looks like a great addition at head coach.
Our guys seem to love him, and are playing hard for him.

  17. Ash Says:

Yup the hang time the punter is getting is helping coverage a ton.

  18. NCBucfan Says:

    Crack wise, agreed!

  19. Bucsfan13 Says:

The Bengals have 6 points late third quarters against Dallas. Any comments?

  20. NCBucfan Says:

    Chris,

I would love to see the fake punt utilized the next time we see the Stupid Saints!

  21. NCBucfan Says:

    Geno711,

It wasn’t all roses though. Leftwichs play calling did leave a lot to be desired. I mean we won, so all is well. Our line showed grit today, and really blocked well for Brady today, especially being on our 3rd string LT.

  22. Arn platz Says:

The Tampa Sack Exchange is back

  23. HC Grover Says:

Burrow sacked 5 times already by Cowboys. Our worst play today was not taking the FG an trying to run up the gut.

  24. Tom Sumner Says:

Enjoy the Ride .. live in the moment… fukin great time!! 1 2 3 Bucs!

  25. TBSwarm Says:

Joe Burrow will retire before Tom Brady

  26. geno711 Says:

    NCBucfan:

I tend be he a huge fan of this coaching staff. Since they have come in, they have coached up some of the worst parts of our team to some of the best in the league.

Offensive line coaching and defensive back coaching is some of the top in the league.

So, a gripe here and there about the coaching this week or last week is fine. But the fans that act like any part of this offensive or defensive coaching staff is bad, including Leftwich, who had two years in a row with about 30 points a game, seems misplaced to me.

  27. NCBucfan Says:

    Agreed Geno,

The idiots saying fire Leftwich and all that noise is dumb. Overall he does a great job. Just nitpicking, and I have to keep reminding myself our QB is 45, some people are grandparents at that age, so have to be careful at times. He did the best he could with Winston in 2019, but as we saw today, Jameis is who he is!

  28. Irishmist Says:

During halftime Sean Payton was crowing about how the Saints defense was handling Brady. After the game he was sitting at the end of the table, didn’t say a word, just looked like he was sucking on a lemon.

  29. Dooley Says:

“The Buccaneers have diversified their run menu this season but their bread-and-butter concept is still duo, a gap scheme run in which the offense tries to create as many double teams at the point of attack as possible.

When the Buccaneers get into certain under-center formations, defenses are alert for duo and will compress to avoid getting pushed off the ball inside. To run duo, offenses will typically get into bunch formations to widen out the front seven and have enough players to block secondary support players.

The Buccaneers also have a series of play-action, pop-pass concepts off of duo that they like to call in the red zone. Overall, Leftwich and Bruce Arians do a good job of designing constraint plays to make defenses think twice about overplaying duo.”

Please, learn to understand what you’re watching

  30. Dooley Says:

“To make running duo a little easier, Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich will run duo from shotgun and call constraint plays to punish teams for overplaying duo. The play is designed to punish defenses for compressing by having the running back fake like he’s going inside before bouncing outside. In the first play in this analysis, Fournette tried to get outside but was tackled by an unblocked linebacker because the guard couldn’t get off his vertical team and block him. On their counter concept, the backside guard pulls outside to account for perimeter defenders.“

Again, learn what you’re watching before trying to critique Leftwich as if you’re intellectually on the same football plane as he is, most likely you’re not, you’re a fan and that doesn’t automatically mean you’re educated on what our playbook is or how it works because you watch it over and over again.

  31. Krippledkracka Says:

Dooley!!! So glad you pointed this out. I’ve never been a big fan of duo gap scheme running, but it does seem that the coaching staff is making it serviceable. However, in my opinion they should be running those play actins off of it about 8 to 12% more to make it a bit more consistent.

  32. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    JOE says,
“…that’s 24-5 and the best run +++in franchise history.”

    _______________

Can we all just soak that in for a minute??
3.5 years ago, could we have even imagined that??
    It’s insane. GO BUCS.

  33. firethecannons Says:

now jameis is somebodyelses problem and it isn’t going away he is back with 3 picks and lost fumbles sweet!

  34. Listnfrmafar Says:

It’s sad Evan’s had to get thrown out of the game to get this team motivated. The D kept points off the board but the 3rd quarter was nothing to write about. Very little pressure up front, Vea was invisible and once again penalties and lack of discipline. The players are winning these games the coaching is below average. I think the O is holding their own with all the injuries and rookies. I will tell you this I have become a huge fan of Mike Evan’s, today just sealed the deal.

  35. Listnfrmafar Says:

FYI, Oneilbucyall, Oralbuc, DR, August and the rest of the Brady haters, Bucs don’t win half these games without Brady whether you like it or not.

  36. LakelandSteve Says:

Camarda changed the field a couple of times on his punts. The coverage units were good. Defense was very good except for some shoddy tackling a couple of times against the run and guys being out of position on a couple others. Offense did what they had to do to get a win. Reminded me of the Shaun King days where every game seemed like a grind.

  37. Dooley Says:

    @KrippleKracka

I agree, BUT we’re also experiencing WWI levels of attrition on our OLine these first few games. We’ve done it in the past when we could have a Nick Leverett or Josh Wells or Hainsey come in to be a 6th OLmen, but those guys are needed at starting positions as backups so risking more PA per game, with a 45 year old QB, you’re almost asking for disaster to strike if the D has the edge presence or calls the right blitz and it gets home. It’s why teams like the Steelers scared the crap outta me before Watt got hurt, even Baltimores front & Cleveland, we’ve got a pretty tough road down the stretch

  38. unbelievable Says:

    @geno- lol,

don’t get me wrong I had some choice words for Leftwich and the offense at times as well, but at halftime it was 3-3 and the defense was playing great. I told everyone to settle down

  39. Krippledkracka Says:

@Dooley. Agreed. I had previously projected us to be 1-3 or even 0-4 at the beginning of this season, yet had us running the table from there. Having this 2-0 lead really doesn’t change the six game projection, as these injuries are starting to rack up. I know we are currently in this new season, and I am absolutely ecstatic about our long term chances for this season. However, I can’t help but worry about next year with no viable QB. Again, thanks for your specific analysis on these subjects.

  40. Orlando Kevin Says:

What Licht has done is amazing…. And you also have to appreciate what he’s done with the offensive line. With a 1st year starting center, rookie left guard and 3rd string left tackle and they still played extremely well against a great Saints defense.

    —————————-
How do you know? Mebbe not with Winston but a steady hand at QB like Brad Johnson. This is the best Bucs team talent-wise ever assembled. And it’s orlbucfan, you yahoo. Brady is stiff like a 45 yo old wrinkle. His age is showing especially in a violent sport that favors the young.

  42. Izod Says:

Our offense has definitely had a net loss of talent, skill, and experience since the last couple years, however, the defense has more than picked up the slack.

It’s really exciting to see the defense growing like this. The secondary especially!

  43. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oralbuc, other than flapping your gums, how about a few specifics when Brady played bad today? The snap was surely a timing issue that happens all the time with rookie or new centers. So what do you got? Listen D played good but the last two offenses they faced I wouldn’t call elite. Let me list them again:
    1. Skeleton oline
    2. NO receiving TE
    3. 1/2 the starting WR out
    4. Limping Lenny
    5. Poor run blocking
    6. Hurt throwing hand

What more do you want from a fossil? I don’t recall did Brad Johnson win 7 SB’s, 18 division titles, lead the lead in passing yds & td’s at 44? Was he ever league MVP? Not to mention every other record & accolade. Pick another player to shat on, all Brady does is make a lousy coaching staff look good.

  44. Carl L Says:

Wow, what a defense we have when they don’t play in the “prevent mode. “This really looks like a special year for the Bucs and us. Really looking forward to each game.

  45. Carl L Says:

I bet Bronk is not going to be able to stay away from this special season.

  46. Carl L Says:

    I meant Gronk!

  47. Bucswin Says:

Yessss. I am enjoying this run. Tis a prefect season, thus far.

  48. Jeremy Says:

    @Dooley STFU already.

  49. Anonymous Says:

Poor List has no home team to root for so he trolls a Bucs board to worship Brady. Where you gonna be when Brady is gone? The Pats probably don’t want your negativity anymore than it’s wanted here.

  51. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    Piece of SH!t Saints.
    That was hilarious.

  52. Dooley Says:

    Lol @Jeremey

Learn how you watch football you clown!

  53. Listnfrmafar Says:

Anonymous, I may hang around just to see how positive you stay when Brady is gone. I am a huge Brady, David, Evan’s (won me over, his receiving skills are a bit sloppy but he is the ultimate baller), Godwin, Shaq, Lenny, Winfield and White if he was a more discipline/polished player and tackler, I enjoyed JPP & Suh both which would enhance this D. The coaches are average and Darden is a joke, even his 15 yd run his new thing is finding the sideline to avoid getting hit. If you cannot see this you don’t understand the game. By the way your post was not very positive.

  57. Ontario Mike Says:

Signing Beasley is like giving Brady another Edelman ! Looking fwd to seeing him find the open zones over the middle with those crossing routes. Buffalo will regret letting him go to free agency.
